Over priced and lacking atmosphere, dining hall was dull and so quiet, some light music wouldnt of gone a miss! Food and drink was 3 times the price of what it should’ve been for the standard! Rooms were spotless, stunning grounds and spa was also lovely! Just needs to add some atmosphere!

We were a party of 4 celebrating a special birthday and were so disappointed with the poor level of service we received in the restaurant today! Two members of staff were waiting on, no pleasantries what so ever, one you would even say was verging on being rude!!! They did n’t even smile at you. The hotel was made aware of the fact that one of the party was celebrating a special birthday, and the lovely dessert arrived with ‘Happy Birthday’ written on the plate - this was just ‘plonked’ in front of her. Would have cost nothing to wish their guest a happy birthday! We chose not to tip on this occasion (which is something we always do if given good service) I queried the bill when paying, it was more than I expected - it was explained that they add a £25 ‘discretionary charge’ to the bill!!!!! I explained that no tip was left on the table, as we were unhappy with the level of service received and could they please remove this charge. This was done It was not made obvious that this ‘discretionary charge’ is to be added to your bill!

Beautiful setting, amazing garden and friendly and efficient service. We stayed here for an afternoon in the Drawing room for an afternoon tea to celebrate our wedding. Exceptional service and beautiful, comfortable setting... Could easily live here (if funds allowed). Love to return and explore more of the gardens. You definitely feel like a guest in an Agatha Christie Miss Marple screen adaptation, but without the murders :-).

An exquisitely beautiful place with an interesting and well executed menu, served properly. If you want to go somewhere special and to feel as if your experience matters, its well worth a visit. We've been twice - once for afternoon tea and once for Sunday lunch. For the historic surroundings, great service and excellent food, its good value. The grounds are lovely and an after dinner walk is a great way to roind things off.

A lovely place to stay for the views etc but the venue lacks atmosphere of any kind and if anything we felt almost as if we were imposing with the little notes/rules posted around the place. Whilst we were upgraded to a £600 per night room from our original £400 room we fail to see what was so special about it. Our expectations were probably set to high having enjoyed much more luxurious accommodation for a lot less money. We are happy that we’ve experienced the Hall but wouldn’t do it again .

We came here for one night for our anniversary, and loved it! Beautiful! We stayed in a spa studio not in the main hotel, which was cute and romantic. Great spa facilities available, treatments bookable in advance. Facilities available were gym, swimming pool, sauna and steam room. We also had a couples massage whilst there which was great. Drinks and light lunches available in the spa area. Lovely breakfast included in our stay which was in the main part of the hotel, nice choices. Set in its own grounds and gardens which were beautiful to wander around, can imagine how lovely it would be in full bloom! Quite a few steps up to the main part of the hotel so be advised. This is not a hi tech hotel, it is quaint and olde worlde. Would definitely love to come back!

As ever it was good to be back at this lovely hotel and grounds with the quietly attentive and skilled staff..our return visit delayed by the various lockdowns. This time we were unaware that Monday and Tuesday evening menu is very much reduced and struggled to find a choice we would enjoy…in addition it was unclear that the cost of the meal covered by the tariff was only to include two courses not three as we assumed.

Fabulous service by every member of staff that we encountered. Excellent meals. The views are great. Unfortunately we had a room that was shaded by two buttressed exterior walls which made it a bit dark. I have a degree of mobility impairment and hadn't thought about the location - up four half flights of stairs. Must clarify room location on future visit.

Facinating place, but age brings compromise as a hotel. Not recommended for those with access issues or mobility problems. However dinner quality was excellent, as are the grounds. At 72 years old, felt the youngest in the place.. says it all.

What a lovely experience. My wife and I stayed for only one night on Saturday 12 August. The location is 5 Star; it is absolutely stunning, approached via a lovely lane through fields surrounded by bleating sheep. And then the house! It is so impressive and best seen from a distance when walking around the beautiful and extensive grounds. The interiors do not disappoint either; there is so much wooden panelling, so many large fireplaces and little comfortable alcoves for relaxing in. That's the house and grounds. I'm extremely surprised by a review written a month or so ago that criticised the "poor service." I think they may have got confused with somewhere else. The staff were brilliant, all of them. Everybody was so friendly, polite and helpful. One example: we had a problem with the safe in our room. A call to reception resulted within minutes to Gareth arriving, full of apologies, to fix the problem. Second example: just leaving on the Sunday I was talking to Andrea on Reception about whether they did tours of the house. The answer was no, at least to formal tours but Andrea immediately arranged for Simon to take my wife and I on a short tour of the house interiors. Simon has such fantastic local knowledge and was so obliging. I'd also like to thank Catherine for lugging our two suitcases up to our room on the second floor; I did offer to take one! We ate in the evening and were not disappointed. We both had the lamb, which came rare and was very well cooked. Breakfast was superb! Thank you to the kitchen staff and Daniel and his team in the dining room. By the way, the views from the dining room across the garden and to the mountains in the background are stunning. The facilities in the Spa are good; the swimming pool is reasonably large compared to most spa pools. My wife and I also both had a great back and neck massage from Rasheen. I've mentioned particular members of staff but everyone helped to make our one night stay at Bodysgallen Hall memorable. Thank you.

We visited for afternoon tea this week as we had a voucher given as a gift. The place is gorgeous, a lovely drive up from the main road and beautiful gardens. The afternoon tea was lovely, and we had plenty of tea served regularly. The only issue, and one which had a big impact on our experience, was that nobody else was there, so the room was absolutely silent and empty of anyone else, apart from when the waiter came in to offer more tea. There was no atmosphere at all, no background music or any type of noise at all infact. It felt awkward to talk because our voices echoed around the room!

Had the smoked salmon for starters with a choice of breads, followed by the Conwy lamb which was simply divine. Finished off with a refreshing rhubarb parfait & sorbet. The staff were attentive, especially the receptionist and drinks waitress who noted it was my friends special birthday, which she obvs relayed to the chef as he’d written on her sweet plate. We were invited to walk the gardens on our way out, an ideal ending to a lovely afternoon. Highly recommend!

Thank goodness there is still a place like Bodysgallen that maintains excellent standards. So many other places in the locality make you feel like you are dining at either an awful dog walkers cafè or a children's crèche! We have been coming to Bodysgallen to dine for years. It is so reliably good, there are no unpleasant surprises and the dining experience is always a top class experience, both with the food and attentive service. Lovely place, lovely staff had a great stay at Bodysgallen Hall amazing views. One thing I must point out is the way I saw staff getting treated by higher up staff. The first time I noticed staff getting treated unfairly was when I saw this young male working his socks off and this other team member took him to the side and I could hear her shouting at him. Which makes me as a customer uncomfortable. Staff need to maybe consider this as I don’t want to be feeling like I am getting served by staff who are not getting treated right in the work place

An outstanding dining experience. We gathered at Bodysgallen Hall for dinner and were blown away with the attention to detail in both service and food. I enjoyed the velouté followed by the sea bass and rhubarb to finish. All the dishes are presented ever so delicately while the flavours took me through a journey of aromas. (The type of food that makes you melt inside)! The service matched, such attention to detail with the table setting and the manners of servers make you feel so welcomed and special. And because it was a beautiful summers evening we enjoyed a walk through the gardens to find the kitchen garden where a lot of the produce in our dishes are grown. Delicious evening and look forward to returning to try new dishes.

Such a shame, incredible grounds but massively let down by the service. As someone who travels extensively, most of which in premium establishments - this was one of the most disappointing stays I have had (Room, Afternoon Tea & Spa) - The greeting was inappropriate, only ever acknowledging me, never my fiancée (as if she wasn't there) - The room was very very tired. I totally understand the constraints with the National Trust / listed building. However the room was very tired, extension cables around, alarm clock from the 70s. The cherry on top was at very high cost for a double bed - this ended up being two mattresses pushed together, absolutely no excuse for this - We ordered afternoon tea, after sitting there for 20+ minutes I had to go to hotel reception to seek someone out to take our tea order. This was very surprising considering there was total 6 customers total there at the time. After this it was simply "which tea?" - service was very poor for this. - We eat there for dinner. I ordered lamb and was asked how I want it cooked, I then said rare please - pink. However, I was given some of the most overcooked lamb I have ever eaten (see pic) it was then begrudgingly changed. Restaurant manager was very rude with this. - For breakfast we were sat next to multiple dead flies. Rather than apologies from the restaurant manager we were told "this is simply nature". I would expect this at Wetherspoons, not for £30pp - They charged us twice (rectified after complaint)

On arrival our cottage was cold. To be fair It was a cold weekend but it was clear the heating had been left to air the cottage and should have been increased prior to our arrival to make it comfortable but I would guess this was to save money in case of a no show. Fair enough I understand but it didn’t help that for the first night we’re were sat watching tv in our anoraks. It was advertised with a fully equipped kitchen. However on arrival there was not a single piece of cutlery. No plates nothing at all so why bother with a kitchen. Apparently there are two different websites one that offers a fully equipped kitchen And one that doesn’t. I cannot imagine that it costs very much to put a few knives and forks and plates in a kitchen unless the hotel wants to encourage people to use their restaurant. Having stayed at bodysgallen several times before Covid in the cottages and had a fantastic time I can only assume this is a cost cutting measure it was very very disappointing. From a business view I cannot understand it makes any sense. It might make sense in the short term but not for people to return. Whilst this is a critical review I hope that the management take note to encourage future guests to loyally return as we once did. We did complain about the lack of kitchen facilities which they did offer to rectify minus the microwave toaster and hob but including cutlery and plates. We did not complain about the cottage being so cold because there was nothing that could be done. The staff on the night we arrived were fantastic and as helpful as they could be. I checked out the following morning after 1 night having booked for 3 nights clearly they were not happy. The lady on reception was polite bur basically computer says no you have to pay for 2 nights even though you only stayed 1 night in case we cannot sell the room. Of course she did not mention if I would get a refund if they did sell the room. C'est La Vie

We booked a half day spa here. Whilst there wasn’t anything particularly wrong with the spa, we did feel it was really dated and could do with some refurbishment. The swimming pool area was really dark as there were no lights above and the windows were extremely narrow, which made it feel dingy and unpleasant. The steam room and saunas were nice and jacuzzi area was ok too. The massages were ok, nothing amazing. Considering the price of the spa packages, I did expect better facilities. The staff were lovely though so cannot fault them. Didn’t get a chance to explore the hall itself or the grounds unfortunately but they looked good.

We booked a spa treat for two for Jubilee Sunday on our way home from a short stay at Deganwy. I enjoyed an incredible aromatherapy massage with therapist Mia, which was an amazing and throughly relaxing experience. My husband said his back, neck and shoulder massage was also excellent. Both of us felt our stresses melting away in the hour or so we were there and we left the Spa feeling very much rejuvenated. Everyone we came into contact with during our time there was extremely engaging and friendly and I can't praise Mia enough for making me feel so welcome throughout my treatment. For anyone due to visit Bodysgallen, the hotel itself looked absolutely stunning. We were just disappointed that heavy rain meant that we were unable to see the grounds in all their glory - but we hope to return soon. We will most definitely be back for more treatments at the Spa, possibly also enjoy an afternoon tea there and maybe we'll even get to indulge ourselves with an overnight stay in the future sometime.

Only one small blip, the heating gets rather carried away and in the hall between the main room, bathroom and kitchenette the radiator can't be lowered, it heated the entire room for me! This was my first visit. I had an aromatherapy and the whole experience was wonderful. From my initial telephone conversation to book to the warm welcome at the spa. The masseuse Mia is highly trained, experienced and intuitive. I can't praise her enough...After my lovely spa session I went for a walk around the formal gardens ( staff were kind enough to allow this even though I wasn't booked in at the Hall). This continued to help my mental wellbeing after my aromatherapy. The mansion and grounds are stunning even though most plants had not woken up, being early Spring. Reading some of the other reviews I think it is quite right that members and formal diners at the hall take priority as the prices are high but for a reason. I stepped into the hall just to confirm that it was okay for me to walk around the gardens. The large oak door was opened for me by a very smartly dressed man/staff before my hand reached the handle. What a super service and one which staying guests or diners pay for.

Stayed here for two nights bed, breakfast and evening meal in February. There is no doubt that the setting is superb and the hotel has a very traditional character which would possibly appeal to a mature age group. The staff and service was excellent and the room was mostly fine but would have preferred a more modern walk in shower than having to climb in to the bath first which might be a bit tricky for those less able. So at this point would happily give 5 Trip Advisor points. However the food both breakfast and dinner were disappointing. For example the Tuesday dinner had a very limited menu, the vegetables were seriously al dente and the hot breakfast had not been, in my opinion. cooked to order. The bacon was dry and the tiny half tomato had been grilled to death. The toast was a disappointing sliced brown with the crusts removed - why?. I raised my comments with a member of management who asked why I had not raised these matters at the time. We all know why, its really difficult and potentially challenging at the time. The second dinner and breakfast ( in quality and quantity) were an improvement but there was no need for a staff member to proudly point out that MY toast had the crusts left on! So all in all a bit of a disappointment, particularly for the price and unless it was a "bad night" the food could not be describes as fine dining.

The hotel and gardens are gorgeous. Make no mistake, this is a beautiful and deliberately traditional place but with excellent service. The food is fairly simple and is well-prepared. It is smart - don't wear jeans. There is a good wine list but house choices are all are above £30. The a la carte is £70 per person, and a discretionary service charge is added. This is far too expensive given the food which is never going to get anywhere near a Michelin star. We had two lovely meals and stayed in a stunning cottage suite. 2 nights, all in, £1220.

Just had the most amazing Afternoon Tea at Bodysgallen Hall. We had our own private room, the library. Really special experience for my 60th birthday. We were well looked after by the lovely Simon, who was very attentive and very friendly. Will definitely go back. Highly recommended.

Staff are lovely, but spa are giving priority to members. As a guest of hotel, we struggled to book time in the pool and gym, and members were rude to us when we were using the facilities. Either shut the pool to guests and offer a discount for hotel stay, or offer guests a time slot to use the facilities. When we did get in the pool, it was mostly empty, clearly members are booking times, and not arriving.

I remember this hotel from my days at St David's College, many a lunch and dinner in the charming dining rooms but had never stayed until now. It is important to note that children under the age of six are unwelcome and that time in the spa is restricted for kids of any age. For all that its still a wonderful night away for the family with its vast gardens and classic country house feel. For me its best in winter, log fire, large scotch.

We spent the day at the spa. Lovely helpful friendly staff and the treatments were a delight, however Lunch at the spa was very disappointing. Chicken salad £9. Over priced tasteless lettuce, tasteless watery chicken. Uninspiring and unimaginative. Side salad from McDonald’s is better. Such a shame. Pool and spa was quite nice but no reading material and not able to have tea/coffee at pool side which would have made mum’s birthday outing feel more like the treat it was meant to. Some soothing spa music in the reception/lunch area would have provided a bit more of a welcoming environment too.

I’ve been a regular visitor to the restaurant at Bodysgallen Hall for many years, it never fails to provide the best food and service you will find anywhere, in beautiful surroundings that a truly breathtaking something which is rare to find these days. I always receive a warm welcome from restaurant manager Nicolette and her staff who look after us extremely well, and nothing is too much trouble. There’s parking outside, and I would recommend you take a leisurely stroll around the impressive grounds. If I were given the choice to dine at any restaurant this would always be my first choice.

Amazing hotel with very nice and vast gardens. We were there in the autumn but the gardens and walks were very impressive. Restaurant let this place down a bit. Food wasn't special and the dining area needs updating. I wasn't a fan of the walk to the spa either the path was dark and could use a light or two.

The restaurant at Bodysgallen Hall is a real taste of a bygone era. If you remember 'posh' restaurants from the 1970s and think 'upmarket' then this is it. The formal layout of the room, the waiting/menu-browsing area, the service and the atmosphere are all highly traditional in a very good way. Some would call it 'stuffy', but that would be unfair, because what it is trying to do it does well - a traditional, well run, formal restaurant with exemplary standards for its customers. The food was good, if not excellent, but the home made breads were superb. It is fairly expensive, but for the quality of surroundings and service, it is well worth it.

Loved this place.... until I saw the foie gras pics here. What the hell like, it's 2024, read the room. No one wants a side order of unnecessarily barbaric, tortured bird...well i guess sadly some of you do...but you're certainly in the minority leaving the rest of us aghast. Do better. We're better than that.

Craig y don takeaway ! Used to be so nice and reasonable price but today paid over £10 for two sandwiches with no salad and not a lot of meat. The blonde woman working behind the counter does not listen to the order given to her and often gets it wrong because of this and certainly does have an attitude problem, maybe she needs some training in in customer care ! Definitely won’t be going back, unfortunately !
