Called in for lunch on Easter Sunday, pub was very busy and we hadn't booked, however they were able to accommodate us. First time visiting this pub, and really enjoyed Sunday lunch. Service was brilliant, food was piping hot and tasty. Would definitely visit again!

Wonderful meal with the best menu I've seen in ages, I'm gluten free and could eat almost everything. We're from the midlands and was on holiday but I would come back just to come to Pen Y Bryn. Staff were brilliant and went above and beyond.

I enjoyed a lovely evening with my parents and my 2 year old daughter and as always, we received a warm welcome from the front of house staff. We had the duck salad starter which was delicious, the fish and chips and quiche which were all cooked to perfection. My little girl was getting restless as toddlers do, so many laps of the restaurant were done and we also had access to coloring and table games provided by staff. Special mention to the deputy manager, Caitie who continuously checked in on my family, ensuring our visit was most enjoyable. Look forward to visiting again soon 🥰

Visited on a Monday evening with our dog. Very dog friendly (dog biscuits provided) and staff were very attentive. We were sat in the bar area and this was fine. We both had burgers and both were juicy and delicious plus good squid. We did not have to wait long for food to arrive. We will return if in the area again.

Really enjoyed the visit as a party of six with excellent food and nice surroundings. All the courses were very tasty and the staff very friendly. It was very busy but the service could still perhaps have been a little quicker though that wouldn’t stop us returning.

Came here on a recommendation from a friend and we will definitely be back! Went on a Sunday to enjoy the roast dinners available. So many options for all dietary requirements. Food was absolutely delicious - so rich and tasty! Service was quick and efficient even though the place was packed! Highly recommend!

I went in an afternoon, there were quite a few diners, but it was relatively quiet due to the place being so big. But the attention from staff was excellent, making sure I had everything I needed. I would highly recommend!!

Had tea here this evening with my brother and family. First time we had been and I'm glad my brother recommended it. The staff were lovely and the food was amazing. Really tasty, all 3 courses, I'm still stuffed! Nothing was too much trouble for them, really nice and a great end to the day.

Had lunch with clients. Great food and service as always. Just one small problem. We asked for the dessert menu but the waitress didn't come back to us so we left without any dessert!

First visit and we were impressed. Staff were attentive, menu was extensive and no worries with gluten free meals. Specials were clearly seen. The food looked amazing and was delicious ..perfectly executed. Thank you. Definately will be back.

Went to celebrate my friends birthday. Vegan choices limited but the quality of the food was very good. A bit pricey.

Very good service. It was very busy. We had a table of 17. I liked the way you pay individually at the till for what you ate and drank. Very handy when you are part of a big party !

We stayed in Colwyn Bay for NYE 2025 we had an Air B and B and our host recommended us to eat and bring in 2025 here. I don't know who designs the dishes but they haven't got it quite right. There are far too many conflicting ingredients in each dish making an assault on the palate.

Had an amazing Sunday Lunch today. We haven’t been back here for a couple of years as we felt the food wasn’t up to standard. Thought why not give them another visit and I can say we both were not disappointed. Service was great even though everyone was so busy. ( well done you do a fab job) . Food was excellent, very tasty and plenty of it. We will be back again.

I booked here on recommendation from a friend who regularly eats here. Our meals were absolutely delicious. We had the Christmas turkey roast. It was accompanied by a really great selection of vegetables and everything was cooked to perfection. The desserts were delicious too and we would definitely recommend and return.

Took the mother in law for Christmas lunch. Staff very accommodating and had sorted tables for her wheelchair. Had one child size turkey dinner and two pork ribeye in cider, delicious. We had a Christmas pudding and the mince and almond tart. Both nice but would have preferred the tart warm and with custard or crème anglaise.Definitely recommend food and service here. Nice to see how clean and nicely maintained the facilities all were too.

Came here for Sunday lunch last week. Were a party of 12 staying in the area. From being seated till leaving we were treated as special guests. The service was exemplary and the staff really friendly even though the pub was very busy. The food was piping hot and came surprisingly quickly with a decent space between courses. Everyone cleared their plates. Compliments too to the bar staff that mixed the cocktails, very much appreciated. We live in Manchester and are planning on driving over in the summer to visit again.

Nicer than last time. Friendly staff. We were sat in the dog area with no dog.. although we booked in advance. Pricy. Portions could be bigger.

We have just visited for a very special occasion and although we've been numerous times over the past couple of decades, something feels as though it's changed. I appreciate Sunday lunchtimes are very busy but it seemed exceptionally loud today, where we couldn't really hold a decent conversation. Granted, the food is always very good and we find it very consistent, timings between courses were also appropriate today. But I found something was lacking in the service overall. The staff were pleasant, they smiled, they were helpful when we asked a question but felt as though it was distant service. We ordered champagne, since it was a special birthday and it was opened away from the table and brought to us to pour ourselves. I would have liked to have had the first glass poured for us. Which you would find any other establishment in the area, even when it's a bottle of Prosecco. I don't want to play down the place too much, I do like it, I like the food, I like the drink offerings, I like the atmosphere normally, but today it did just feel a little absent. Might be down to lack of staff, I don't entirely know. Competition in the area is quite high, and I think when service is smooth and attentive the food could be average. But in this instance the food is much better than the service they offer. Very petty comment but upon leaving we noticed the children could've been offered crayons and papers so the kids were a little disappointed. Of course I would go again, but I will not consider here first, like previously.

Our first visit last night (12.11.24). Very happy with the food. Served hot, on plates that were hot, a rarity in too many places now. Staff were polite and efficient and we enjoyed the atmosphere/setting. Already planning our next visit.

Pen-y-Bryn was amazing, we had the roast beef Sunday lunch, which was beautiful, plenty of meat, huge Yorkshire pudding and the food was hot, the waitress went out of her way to help with a diatry need we had, she was pleasant, polite and very helpful, dessert was lovely and apple and blackberry crumble with a blackberry sorbet, when we had coffee it came with a flapjack that we wasn't expecting, which was moist and crumbly infact one of the best flapjack I've had and then later found out they are made fresh every morning on the premises, will definitely be going back again

I advise to book your meal, we did. It gets very busy. It was a Sunday as well. Absolutely beautiful food couldn't even eat all the dinner it was a Sunday roast. Staff friendly and polite, we had 4 children with us, they had colourings for them to colour in too. Which stopped them getting bored. Food was fast coming out to the table. Will definitely be back.

We booked a table for 2 online, which was easy to do. We arrived early and were shown straight away to our table. Really good food as always. Always enjoy going to Pen Y bryn. Great atmosphere and really good food and we were well looked after by the young man who served our table

I ordered fish cake off the lunch menu. They were served with homemade tartar sauce and a salad of tomato & onion. The meal was very good but I would have preferred a regular side salad including a few green salad leaves rather than just tomato & onions.

Go for Sunday dinner most weekends it's unreal been a few times on weekdays and food is also amazing, staff are incredible the pub is truly outstanding. Always take my dog and book a dog friendly area table alway go the extra mile.

We've been here a few times, yet won't be going back. We had a less than brilliant Sunday lunch a few weeks ago, where the food was a bit dry and the service somewhat chaotic - after waiting at our table for 20 minutes to pay, we had to stand around and wave our credit card at the staff near the bar to be able to settle up. We thought we'd try again for a late lunch last week, and the service was rather disorganised. It felt like there was nobody in charge, with one particular waitress more interested in chatting with her friends (possibly co workers on their day off) than working. Quite a cold welcome from behind the bar when we arrived. When we had waited at the bar for a few minutes to be seated, and the lady behind the bar hadn't acknowledged us, we asked if we could just find a table - to be told very tersely that we had to wait. My starter was so-so, main nice, and pudding again a bit nondescript. Then when we wanted to pay - well, yet again we had to wait around. In the end we just went to the bar to get it done, and get out and go home. We felt like the staff had no proper management, it was quite strange and uncomfortable - like customers were a nuisance. I've never experienced it in any other Brunning and Price pub - and we go to a lot of them. Sadly we won't be going back.

Never had a bad meal there to date and have been probably 60+ times over the years. Andy and Sam are superb managers and their staff are all incredibly helpful and well-trained. Nothing is too much for the staff and it’s just a pleasure to go there (and is our go-to gastro pub) for dinner or for a get-together with friends. I can strongly recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

I visited this establishment one evening, and I noted that it offers various dining areas to choose from. Regrettably, my experience with the food was disappointing. I ordered a chicken dish accompanied by gnocchi, for which I paid over £20 each dish. Prior to placing my order, I specifically inquired with the staff regarding the portion size of the pasta/gnocchi in relation to the chicken. The waiter assured me that the dish would include a satisfactory amount. However, the meal that arrived consisted of merely two small chicken breasts and three gnocchi, accompanied by an abundance of green lettuce. I felt as though I had been misled. It would be advisable to either revise the description of the dish and ensure the accuracy of the staff’s recommendations, or to reconsider the pricing structure. If the establishment intends to charge such a premium, it is imperative that a more substantial dish is provided.

We had a great evening at the Pen y Bryn before our sons went off to university. The food was really good; chilli beef salad very tasty, and the burger with pulled pork went down very well! The only small gripe is that to some of the chairs are really uncomfortable!

Book a table for 2 o'clock today 22nd September for 8 of us we ordered about 15 minutes later then about 15.20 we had to ask about our food no apology and the service was disgusting as well I wouldn't go back there

I'd seen this place recommend in a few blogs and rightly so, perfect Sunday lunch spot and best roast I've eaten out. Parking on site was a bonus. It was just me and my dog I'd tried to ring and book a table but I couldn't get through. On arrival they were extremely busy but the man who greeted me at the door was so welcoming and managed to fit us in, I was surprised and relieved after a long walk. Everything ran smoothly, watching the team do their jobs, they were busy but it looked effortless, everyone was focused, people were attended to swiftly, everything was cleared and cleaned promptly and properly, a very clean, comfy, well run restaurant. All the staff from the man who greeted me and took my order, to the runner, the man who brought my drink, the lady who checked on me a few times, were all so pleasant, friendly and efficient. As a single person I am often invisible in restaurants and that means I can wait for ages to get food and drink orders and I'm rarely checked on, but not here everyone sees you, makes time for you, and makes you feel welcome. The food was lovely, I had a great roast, nice portion size with everything you'd want for your Sunday roast, and I just had room for something sweet. Thank you!

I went with some friends and I was the only person in the group that hadn’t been before. I was told that it was expensive but fantastic, and I was shown photos of previous meals which certainly supported the fantastic claim. None of us mind paying that little bit extra for something special, and it’s fair to say that we were all really looking forward to the meal. The venue is lovely; large with plenty of space, and I believe it has wonderful views, but I can’t say for certain, as even though it was very quiet, we were seated away from the windows. The staff we spoke to were efficient and respectful, but distant, and there wasn’t really any feel of welcome or atmosphere. This place is expensive, and it’s close to London prices, which is surprising to see in North Wales. We’re talking £31.95 for a 7oz steak, £16.95 for sausage and mash, and £20.95 for fish pie. We ordered and everything arrived reasonably quickly, and yet nothing was piping hot. It looked good, and was nicely presented, but the portions were smaller than expected. In terms of taste, it was ok but not exceptional. My friend had shown me photos of an open prawn sandwich that she’d previously had, and it looked amazing, with decent king prawns. We both ordered that, and what arrived was nothing like the original one. The prawns were small and it just looked like a regular prawn sandwich that you could get from anywhere. Although the sauce was lovely, the prawns didn’t have a lot of taste, and some were watery. Everything felt like a bit of a let down and we all felt the same. We were disappointed and decided not to order desserts. It’s possible that it was just an off-day, or a problem with the supplier, but I can only review the experience I had, and that was mediocre at best. Not somewhere I'll go back to, and my friends have said the same.

This was our first visit, and due to my mobility issues i had booked in advance requesting a table close to the exit, possibly with bench seating. When we arrived, our table was ready and was indeed as close as possible to the door as could be. First impression was a beautiful, relaxed and welcoming interior. All the staff were smiling and said good evening as we went in. Such a lovely welcome. Our party of five all ordered starters, one being the king prawns, and when it arrived, i must admit it did seem a bit small, about 4 prawns in total, but it was delicious. The garlic mushrooms on ciabatta bread was lovely. My Daughter had the fried brie which came with a lovely fresh apple salad, totally yummy. When our mains arrived we were all delighted. The food was lovely, and plenty of it. The pork belly was amazing, melt in your mouth. The fish and chips was nice, and the staff had no problem replacing the mushy peas for a fresh salad. Two of our party opted for the beef burger. It was huge! The lamb and rosemary pie was amazing, and came with a yummy gravy which you could have licked off the plate. Everything tasted fresh and was delivered hot with a speedy service too. All in all, Pen y Bryn delivered a wonderful experience with brilliant service and superb staff who really couldn't do enough for us. We will definitely be returning with other family members to try the rest of the menu! Diolch yn fawr iawn i chi, mi fydda ni'n dychwelyd yn no fuan!

Good atmosphere Food was good quality, my only criticism would be the portions could have been slightly bigger. Staff were helpful but did have to wait a little to get the bill, but the food came quickly when we ordered it.

Lovely food stopped off on our way to Holyhead. It's not on the route but if you have plenty of time well worth the small detour.

I had a tasty Caesar salad for my lunch , I thought the salad was a little on the dear side but ordered it anyway knowing that Pen y Bryn portions are normally generous. On this occasion I was disappointed, maybe it was the type of lettuce used ‘baby gem ‘ it’s normally ‘romaine’ and it’s always a good bowl full of salad when I’ve had it in other places for fraction of the price . I noticed my Dads portion of belly pork wasn’t huge either . I can understand the price hike to a certain point but please don’t cut back on the portion size ! This is the reason why we come there for tasty food that you know is going to fill you . Slightly disappointed on this occasion.
