Pen Y Bryn in Conwy

Absolutely lovely place. Food was great and loads of it, and staff were lovely people. Can't fault any of it. Will definitely be back. Looking forward to the winter and the log fires in there.

Reliable in every way, and classic but fresh, not stuffy. Prices are possibly 15 - 20% more than you'd expect, and they do that "add a tip" on the card machine, that i find irritating. The staff are their secret weapon though, good natured and helpful, and that can smooth over the price & tip. I used to frequent the place when it was a pub with grub, so maybe that colours my judgement? Recommended, just not reasonably priced.

Very good in so many ways as it always has been in the 15 or so years I have visited with family. Menu could do with a refresh on choices, that said the chicken Milanese was delicious. Friendly welcome from the host and great service.

Stopped here on a Saturday for lunch and a cocktail on our wedding anniversary weekend break. Lovely interior design, great food and the cocktail was gorgeous! Staff very efficient and courteous. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend this restaurant.

We have visited this place many times. This time it was less busy than usual but the service was the worst we have encountered here. After waiting some time for our meal the waiter advised us that our order had disappeared. After seeing numerous customers who arrived after us having their meals and waiting a further 20 minutes with no food we decided to leave. We had an apology but they were still happy to charge us £5.60 for our drinks. We have visited many B & P pubs and unfortunately we have noticed a recent decline in the standards of some. We won't return here. It will be the White Lion next time. It is always good.

My wife and I had the soup and sandwich combo. The potato and leek soup was thin and bland. I had a cheese and ham toastie, the cheese was cheap stringy cheese and my wife had the chicken, ham and pesto ciabatta. For whatever reason they decided to put cheap margarine on the ciabbata first and the chicken was still chilled in the centre. When we shared our views we were given an apology but still charged full price even though we hadn't eaten any soup and left have our sandwiches. On a positive the bottle of Coca-Cola was lovely 😂

As always an excellent meal. I have never had to complain about the food or the staff

We only stopped for a drink but the venue was very nice. We had a warm welcome and the service was spot on. If we were in the area again, we would definitely stop for food as I looked fantastic.

Absolutely gorgeous Sunday Lunch every time

I had heard lots of great things about the food and from the pictures on the website so I was really looking forward to eating here but sadly the food was very dissapointing, only one veggie option on the mains menu which I couldn’t eat due to dietary concerns. I ended up having a light bites option with a couple of side dishes. The mushrooms were swimming in the garlic & truffle oil, very sickly, My side of buttered veg was near raw and then my ice cream had melted before it arrived at the table for my (hopeful it would be better) dessert. The lady serving us was lovely, very pleasant but the food has but me off a return visit I’m afraid.

The welcome here was so nice the atmosphere was great and the food and service was fab!! Absolutely loved it here and would absolutely go back. The gluten free options are plenty and the food was lovely!!

Pen Y Bryn offers a dining experience that shines in many aspects, particularly with its lamb shoulder dish, which is nothing short of excellent. The atmosphere within the restaurant adds to the overall appeal, creating a pleasant environment for diners. However, the experience is slightly marred by the front of house staff, with a particular mention of the unwelcoming attitude from the lady at the front. Additionally, a notable oversight was the serving of orange despite a clear mention of an intolerance, indicating a need for improvement in their attention to diner's dietary needs. Despite these hiccups, the culinary delights and ambiance make it a place worth visiting, with the hope of improved service in the future.

Always a nice place to visit at the top of C Bay. An excellent Gohan Prawn Curry and the rest had Bacon Chop etc.

Booked a table for 5 of us at 5.30pm this evening for a late Sunday lunch. This is our " go to place" for an excellent Sunday roast. The Chef and his team, as always, exelled. The food is always fabulous and consistently so. This evening, as we had a family member with us with additional needs (and even though the restaurant was extremely busy) our special request for something that wasn't on the menu was cooked especially...so very kind and very much appreciated. Thank you Chef!

Looked a Lovely Restaurant but very disappointing! We ordered the bang bang chicken and Brie to start. The bang bang chicken was lovely. The Brie was one triangle of cheese on top of a mush - ?chutney? It was sweet so that is what we assumed it to be but it was a very unusual flavour. We both ordered the chicken burgers. The chicken burger came as two bits of long chicken. Both very overcooked/burnt. I could not eat mine but my husband tried to. The chips were nice but unfortunately cold. I highlighted to the waitress about being unable to eat our meal. She did not apologise, merely took the plates away and said “okay”. Really disappointed as we paid over £60. Pictures as below.

At only 1 hour from Holyhead, it's an ideal location for a rest and some fantastic food if you're around the North Wales area! We'll definitely call again!

The Pen Y Bryn has over the last 12 months become our go to restaurant and the one we always bring our friends and relatives to when visiting us in LLanfairfechan. During this time I cannot recall a single negative comment from any of our companions or ourselves regarding the food, staff or the establishment its self. Invariably the comments are positive. Lovely meal and great gluten free options - my husband had steak sandwich and I had the crispy beef in sweet chilli sauce the onion rings were to die for and gluten free !! Looking forward to our next visit - staff very pleasant and attentive , great value for money , nice choice of wine . Had many good meals here over the years never been disappointed.

Lovely meal in celebration of our wedding anniversary tonight . Squid was gorgeous, beautifully cooked steak, good pepper sauce. Very busy but staff were excellent.

The food was absolutely beautiful... we had a Sunday lunch, the mixed one. It was incredible, we had a few extras too. Would highly recommenm. The reason i gave it a four was due to the service. The staff were friendly but noone vioted the table to check if we needed anything, our drinks were empty and we had to get up to ask for things we needed. This may sound snooty but having spent shy of £350 I would have expected better service. Would still recommend. For sure!!!

As a family, we have been coming here for many years. It was great to have lunch here today and to see how the standards of food and service continue to be excellent. Well done, to the entire team!

Yet another lovely evening with friends, attentive staff and amazing food. Front of house very welcoming and friendly, especially the management team (Caitie, it’s always a pleasure). The food is not bad but is not amazing either. The portions are quite big. Service is pleasant. The atmosphere is enjoyable as it is a big open space but the quality of the food should be better for the price.

Sunday Roast was absolutely stunning. Gorgeous fresh produce and exemplary service from start to finish. I would highly recommend the Tiramisu for dessert, it was absolutely wonderful! Perfect ambience for an enjoyable family meal! Will 100% be back to visit soon!

As a family we had a great experience at the Pen y Bryn last week. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and accommodating to our various needs. The pub had a warm, cosy atmosphere and everywhere was clean and well kept. I would highly recommend coming here for a gorgeous meal!

We were quite disappointed all round, the service was robotic and clinical, it was quite expensive and also I am not a big fan of being forced into tipping when paying by card ,the meal itself was marginally above average and 2 mains ,2 soft drinks and a tea and coffee was just short of £60 after the enforced tip which did not really represent great value for money .As locals who have frequented this place on a regular basis we now feel it is time for a change .

Great Sunday lunch overlooking colwyn bay

Service really slow tonight. Main was ok but not special. Desert was appalling. Panettone bread pudding - tiny tiny portion swimming in sub standard sauce. I complained to two separate people tonight and no one did anything about it. Been coming here for years and sad it’s still so variable and not reliable. I will seriously think twice now about eating here again.

Service was excellent but the food even though it was good didn't warrant the prices. Basically knock £1 off items under a tenner and £2 off stuff over a tenner. Salmon sandwich wasn't worth £10.95 imo. More like £8.95 etc

Food was good although we had a bit of a wait. Staff apologised and I received a complimentary drink, nice atmosphere and plenty of parking.

Just convivial surroundings, superb food and an excellent choice of food. Yes - more premium price wise but the service and environment more than make up for it.

Fabulous every time we go. My husband is vegetarian, and he always says I would eat there most weekends if we lived closer. Staff are so lovely, too. It's a must .

99% of things about the Pen Y Bryn are absolutely fantastic. The food is always great, staff are great and it has a genuinely warm feel to it. Love going there. But, it does always seem to surprise me when I get the bill. It is expensive but not so much that you'd question as to why. Next time though, I'll be taking my mega rich sister and brother in law and they can foot the bill! Great place.

A great New Year's Eve party, couldn't fault it.

Poorly seasoned food given very high prices - a shame as a visit last year was much better. Mains particularly disappointing. Staff good. Overcrowded table next door made ear-splitting noise which didn't help.

Booked for Boxing day meal, my Wife's birthday. 5 adults and 2 children. Very nice meal, 3 courses. Staff helpful and friendly, even arranged for a birthday cake presentation. Shall use the venue again....

I love this place and try to go when ever I visit. The food has always been excellent with a menu that changes regularly but retains some of your favourites. Service is exemplary and fast . Fantastic views over the bay . Unfortunately i only ever seem to come in the winter so have never sat outside. Great for couples,families and large groups . The Pen-y-Bryn has several rooms that give great flexibility for table sizes and levels of intimacy.

Amazing food, lovely staff and atmosphere

When we go to North Wales, we always stop for a meal at Pen-y-Bryn. The staff are always delightful The menu is quite varied. The parking is plentiful. We went with all my family for our fiftieth wedding anniversary meal this month, and we were not disappointed. The range of real beer, good wine, and the varied menu elevate Pen- Y- Bryn above places that only do pub grub.

Really enjoyed the food here. Service was friendly & good. A good selection of drinks available and food good quality.

Beautiful place to eat, its cosy the service is excellent and the food to match. Large menu with plenty of choices and the food is always well presented and hot. I love my cup of tea and this is the only place that I know serve a proper pot of tea in the correct pots which don't spill over and actual sugar cubes and it's always hot. It's so cosy and relaxing to eat in and staff are first class and extremely helpful everything about the place is first class. Disabled toilets and easy access for the disabled and elderly. Plenty of parking and the only thing I would suggest if they read this is a few marked disabled parking bays are needed at the front as there are plenty of spaces to do this. I would not hesitate to recommend this place and you won't be disappointed. Simple first class.

Nice country pub with decent food and drinks choice, excellent views over the Colwyn Bay.

Excellent service and food very reusable priced

My husband and I have been to The Pen y Bryn a number of times over the years but the food and service today exceeded our expectations. Rob greeted us and was very pleasant and helpful throughout and gave us great service. His colleague Katie was very nice too. We both had a main - Wild Boar, Pork, Parsnip & Cider Pie which was delicious. The large, individual pies had lovely thin pastry and very generous fillings and they were accompanied by tasty mash and perfectly cooked green vegetables. Neither of us had any room for coffee let alone dessert! We'll be returning very soon!

First class service and food tonight - we had the mushroom bourgignon pie, steak burger and fbeer battered fish and chips and each of us really enjoyed our meal. The quality of the coffee at the Pen y Bryn is unequalled and from the moment we were greeted at the door until we left, the service that Andrew and his team provided was brilliant. Thanks to all of the Pen y Bryn team for a great night.

Cauliflower and Cheddar soup wasn't hot so still had lumps of unmelted cheese in it. Lamb was overcooked, vegetables were bland and limp. Overall the dish was dry. Had the French apple and toffee with ice cream which was nice but portion size was smaller than before. Service was good but didn't get that overall feeling of a good experience due to the food.

Booked an early evening Sunday dinner here yesterday. Lovely warm welcome, excellent service throughout and the very best roast beef dinner in the area! Great atmosphere in the restaurant too. Thanks to the team here for a lovely meal.

Warm, welcoming, clean and friendly. A wonderful atmosphere, good level of service and outstanding food. Always consistent and never had a bad meal here. On a plus side, if you ring in advance, you can book a table in the dog area and be able to take your pooch with you. They have an amazing local Welsh wine, Solaris… has to be tried and well worth a visit. The menu is changed on a regular basis and there is always something fresh to Tempt.

This is a very large and busy venue. However, it is such a slick operation that orders are taken in a timely manner and food follows shortly after. The staff were lovely and the food was delicious. We will definitely eat here again. The bottom line is good food, decent venue and lovely staff.

Great food ample parking easy access not a lot of designated disabled bay's but access was good. Food perfect with calories shown and view's from the sea view area of the building we're great could have stayed longer the staff are very helpful once you have their attention.😉

Always enjoy the Pen Y Bryn but for some reason we’ve not been so often since lockdown. Called today and it was great to see it as busy as ever. Really good Sunday Lunch. Food is served amazingly quick considering the amount of customers they have in. Food is really good and well presented. No complaints and we were well looked after by Michelle.

Fantastic lunch. We arrived spontaneously with a dog to see if they could accommodate us. Most of us had Malaysian fish curry as main which was really excellent. Such delicate flavours. My partner had steak burger which he said was great. Our desserts were fantastic - the fine apple tart, the tiramisu, the damson sponge pudding. A really good quality meal in a lovely atmosphere. Had a delicious Malaysian Fish curry. Was concerned about how spicy and they brought me a sample to taste before I ordered it. Great service! One of our favourite places to eat. Always friendly helpful staff and tasty food to eat. (Would love to get that curry recipe!)

Four of us very much enjoyed our lunch at Pen Y Bryn this week. I ordered the Smoked Haddock and Prawn fish pie tart from the starters list - sounds odd, but tasted absolutely delicious. It came with a lovely pea puree, samphire and wilted lettuce. I also had the Onion & Cider Soup, which was very warming and tasty. My husband was in raptures over the Wild Boar Pie - a very generous portion which he did his best to demolish. Our friends had the Tortelloni and Fish & Chips, both declared them to be very good indeed. The service was friendly, prices reasonable (i.e. in line with most similar hostelries), it was not too busy (understandable for a Monday lunchtime), and the fire was roaring - very welcome on a nippy November day. We will definitely return.

Excellent food and if anything overly attentive service. Beer was decent and I was offered a taster. They were very accommodating.

We had a very nice meal at the Pen Y Bryn but our only complaint was the expense. A pint of cider cost £5.00 a pint and a diet coke £4.00 that's more than I paid in a London pub a couple of weeks ago. The meals are very expensive a 7oz steak and chips costing just over £31.00. and fish and chips nearly £17.00. That said the service was very good and the food was excellent. Gluten free is also on the menu with a very good selection. Not sure if we would go there for another meal and dropping in for a drink is just to expensive.

My mother and I had not been here for a while, since before the Covid Pandemic and we were very impressed with the wonderful and welcoming atmosphere, the quality of the food and the excellent service with an amazing smile from all serving staff members. Please keep up the standards and we will definitely come back and recommend to others. Thank you for a great evening.

I came for my birthday meal and it wasn’t a good experience. Food and service was good, however, we were sat at an awful table right by the coffee machine. Staff throwing cutlery into baskets, banging coffee into the bin and making drinks right next to us. We couldn’t hear ourselves think or even have a conversation due to how loud it was. We were only a table of 4 but we’re put on a table for 8!! The table shouldn’t be there at all. As people were constantly walking past and the noise was unbearable. For the amount of money spent, it was a terrible experience and I was very disappointed.

Tonight we both had lamb it was very lively an unusually busy Monday night. The meal was perfect 10/10 Perfect size and lovely accompaniments served with. For dessert my partner chose tiramisu which was nice if a bit small in size . My choice was the irresistible French apple tart and was a tour de force as desserts go. Have had it about four times it always delights me; very lovely to look at and divine to eat. Hubby and I both gave a score to the waitress of 10/10 and insisted she give our compliments to the kitchen staff too. It's a great place to go for a meal not the cheapest but we believe you get what you pay for and for me this is worth every penny we spent. Love the loyalty voucher scheme too...ask about it when you arrive for your meal. You'll be chuffed xxx

Always 10 /10 Samantha and the team do a fantastic job. Positives galore , Food is very very hard to find fault with... It almost pains me to say this.. But, every meal we have had - every time amazing. I travel over 100 miles to get to this Brunning, passing others on the way! ( Especially , The Dinorben in Bodfari, where customer service is awful) The only negative ia the quality of the coffee beans they use... Not the best... The machine is great, the beans seriously are bad) Maybe Head Office will change them one day 😉 Once again, keep the the great work - the staff at Pen Y Bryn are a credit to the Brunning group.
