Loved this place.... until I saw the foie gras pics here. What the hell like, it's 2024, read the room. No one wants a side order of unnecessarily barbaric, tortured bird...well i guess sadly some of you do...but you're certainly in the minority leaving the rest of us aghast. Do better. We're better than that.

It was ok, but I wouldn't go back. We waited way too long for the food. They did offer us a free pudding, but there were no real gluten free options. I ordered a salad that was plain, flavourless and boring! It was pretty much the only thing on the menu I could order. Disappointing.

Had Sunday lunch! Tried the three courses! Maybe next time,I will just stick to two courses! As the start was so much larger than I thought! I had the liver pate! Followed by the beef dinner, then sticky toffee pudding! Lovely place to eat , very relaxing, staff were lovely and friendly! And prices were good value! 👍

Lovely hotel restaurant where the staff were incredibly lovely. They set up a table for us really quickly and the food was delicious. Decent portions, only the salmon fell on the smaller side. But keep in mind if you're strictly vegan or dairy free there aren't many options as my friend ended up just going with chips but their app is really great for filtering to see what foods you can eat with dietary restrictions. There's no parking if you're coming back from Snowdonia so turn left just before the restaurant and follow the road to park opposite the train station.

We were a bit late for Sunday lunch and we hadn’t booked either but, we were shown to a nice table by the polite staff and presented with a nice uncomplicated menu. We both had the chicken breast which came with a delicious truffle sauce and fresh vegetables cooked perfectly. There is a good wine selection and a very tasty local ale. For desert we decided to share a cheese board with really tasty Welsh cheeses and it was just right for two to complete a delicious meal and a comfortable couple of hours in a warm enjoyable setting. Nice job guys!

We ate here as it was always so busy when we walked past and was well reviewed. We couldn’t get a table until 8:45 for 4 of us and by this time there were hundreds of tiny flys everywhere! This unfortunately made it really tricky to enjoy our meal! I’m not sure what the restaurant could do to combat it but until something is sorted we wouldn’t eat here again, although maybe earlier in the evening is better? The food was good, no complaints although they could do with a vegan burger! Nice drinks and excellent service. The staff were friendly and taking all the necessary precautions.

We've eaten at about a hundred different restaurants, and this one is definitely in the top 3! The food is fresh and locally sourced. The menu has enough choices so there's something for everyone, but not so much that you can't choose. Portion sizes are big and the taste is amazing. Also deserts are nicely put on the plate and couldn't taste better. Unfortunately we were just on holiday nearby, but would love to eat here more often!

FrIendly service and good food, cheaper than the other side of the hotel (the grill). The food is fairly poshly presented and tastes good, with a few interesting mixes. My only criticism is the menu had so many things I was tempted by that I was spoilt for choice. We tried the £25 3 course menu and our first hint of the delights to come was the Amuse Bouche of a tiny cup of local Rhug chicken and sweetcorn soup with an intense flavour which woke up the taste buds. We both chose the crisp pork belly with crackling and a delightful apple sauce, and to follow the lightly curried lamb, perfectly pink in the middle with bombay potatoes etc, and my favourite the hake sat on a creamy chowder full of local plump Menai mussels. My desert of passionfruit mouse and mango ice-cream sat on a bouquet of granola looked as good as it tasted. The menu is a feast of the best of local Welsh produce, superb flavours and textures, competently designed and cooked. The young lady who served us was charming and knowledgable. In all - a superb meal.

We decided to eat here as it was our last night in Betws y coed. We had the 3 course evening meal at £25 each. Each course was fantastic- tastes I has never tasted before! I had the scallops to start, the duck for the main, but the absolute cherry on top was the dessert- the pistachio and olive oil cake, with goats cheese and black olive ice cream! Sounds a little off-putting, (I'm not even a personal fan of olives!) but the entire ensemble worked together perfectly and I would recommend it to anyone who is even a little adventurous with their food. The staff there are marvellous, very attentive and smiley, and the atmosphere was quiet and romantic.I ate all three courses without leaving a single scrap- and left with a very happy stomach!

Had a late-afternoon pre=booked dinner with a large group. Everyone had chosen their dishes from the set menu in advance, but some had forgotten what they had ordered - this was not a problem for the restaurant.. Room was attractively laid out, and service from cheerful staff was very good. The trout-eaters were very happy with their main courses, and those of us who opted for the local Rhug estate beef were delighted as it was tasty and tender. Plenty of veg, too, Can't comment on the vegetarian option. Good starters and desserts, too. My only disappointment was that, before choosing my dishes, I had emailed to ask about the trout sauce (was it heavy on saturated fat) but I never received a reply. So I played safe with the beef, and was happy with that choice.Good value.

We dined in this restaurant on our recent stay in Betws-y-Coed. Although we had made a reservation with reception for the Saturday evening when we arrived there seemed to be some confusion about whether we were booked in (as we subsequently found out was the same with two or three other parties which arrived after us). We were eventually seated at a table, provided with menus, but then seemingly ignored while they saw to other guests which arrived after us. We were just about to leave when someone came to take our drinks order. The staff seemed not to know what was going on and were running around in a pointless direction. When our food was eventually served I must say it was very nice and the lady who was allocated to look after us did so very well and was very pleasant. I think the staff need some proper training. When you walk into the restaurant door instead of someone being there to take you to your table you end up just standing there while someone runs to the opposite end of the restaurant to check the bookings and then runs back to say 'can you hold on a moment'. We were not made to feel welcome. Would not go back.

We arrived on time to be shown to our table and handed our menus. We selected the wine we wanted for the waitress to bring the bottle to the table, unscrew the top and leave the wine and the top on the table? Most restaurants ask if you want to try the wine or failing that they offer to pour you a glass. I ordered the Welsh lightly curried rump of lamb for the main. While eating my starter the lady next to me was served the lamb main which was extremely well done. At this point I asked the waitress to make sure my lamb was pink. When the mains were served I was told because I hadn't given them much notice that was the best they could do. The lamb was ruined!I did complain to the waitress to have a supervisor who clearly does not know much about food tell me that the reason it is served well done is because it was lightly curried and had I gone to the grill they would have known to cook it pink as standard. They do not take feedback well and anyone who knows about food will know the rump should never be cooked through as it goes tough regardless of it being coated in spice or not. As I said to the supervisor they should at least have given me the option to wait for a pink main or come back to advise they couldn't serve it pink. Granted she did apologise for this but they could have just taken the feedback to begin with without trying to find excuses for a chef that should know better The glasses had lipstick and water marks on them and the candle holders are filthy. There is old wax in the bottom of them which needs scraping out and ours even had a used tea light which needed replacing. Hardly romantic or what you would expect from a restaurant. Waitresses and waiters just walk through the restaurant into the hotel areas without really looking at customers and getting their attention is difficult. While reasonably priced much better service is needed. I would not return.

Stayed in the Royal Oak for two nights and ate in the main hotel restaurant, the Llugwy, on the first. A large comfortable room which overlooks the High St, so you get gawped at by passers-by if you sit in the window, but you have a memorable meal at the same time. Good, extensive wine list. Very attentitive service, with an adequate number of staff for the room for starters. Pan-seared scallops with asparagus puree and a parmesan tuille made a good starter. I then went for the Llandudno Bay lobster with raspberry and mango salad - delicious. Dessert was superb - an olive oil and pistachio cake (rather like a polenta cake) with black olive and goats cheese ice cream, supposedly with figs but I think they failed to make an appearance. But no matter, we were well pleased by this point. Three courses for £25 - a bargain with cooking at this level. Would put many of London's eateries to shame.

Our third night in Betws and another restaurant. A pleasant dining room in the Royal Oak Hotel, with a harpist, and the atmosphere disturbed only by a loud group guide for a short period. A young and genuine waitress explained they were commencing with a new menu tonight, and they would welcome feedback. The menu provided a good choice. The wine list was limited but good value. Both our entrees were outstanding. What constructive comments we had about a main course were ,surprisingly,welcomed- a very rare occurrence in most restaurants where comments are invited but not welcomed. The waitress was outstanding in relaying those comments and thanking us. She managed the dining room impeccably. The cheese plate was huge, with interesting cheeses ,an excellent chutney, bara brith, crackers and fruit. We left completely satisfied and felt we'd had excellent service and been provided with good value. The best dinner in Betws for us so far. Try the new menu. It's very impressive.

The starter was fine, our deserts good but the main course was like carvery food. My beef and my mother's pheasant were both overcooked and rubbery. The vegetables weren't overcooked but tasted as if they had been cooked some time earlier and had been hanging about waiting for a customer. My Yorkshire pudding was like cardboard. This place isn't expensive but even so it was not value for money, the average home cooked roast will be better than this.Parking directly opposite, give the ticket stub to the waitress to have the charge refunded.

The harpist was excellent and provided excellent ambiance. Our server, Jennifer, was a delight.

We booked ahead to be sure to get a table, but it was not busy on the Friday night we arrived in town. Offered a limited menu fixed price which everyone was happy with. We all ate something different and there were no complaints. Staff were friendly and attentive. Enjoyed the wine.

We visited on a Weds evening when they have a harpist, which really added to the ambience, it is a lovely dining room with attentive staff. The set meal at £25 is excellent value, the amuse bouche was lovely, the choice of starters is very good and the mains were lovely - reasonable bottle of Malbec made it a fantastic meal. The only down side was my 'medium rare' steak was 'well done' in anyone's book, the cheese board did not come with the 'compote' and the waitress did not mention this, when i called her over she explained 'it is made up fresh and there is none left' she also told the next table this too - this left one thinking 'why am I not important enough to make it up for!?" and a 'rouge' drink was added to our bill - otherwise it would have been graded 'excellent'.

We dined at the Riverside mid-week during a weeklong visit to Betws-y-Coed. We’d dined at the Grill on our first night and had spotted the Llugwy Restaurant on the other side of the hotel and decided to give it a try. We had three courses, all of which were pleasant, not exceptional, but certainly far from bad. The food was washed down with a nice bottle of wine and all for a very reasonable cost. The gentleman who served us was very personable and was very helpful in arranging a few options for my vegetarian fiancée. The only thing that let the experience down was the décor/ambiance. The restaurant seems to be the hotel’s “fine dining” option and it appears that whoever decorated it looked at a picture from some decades for inspiration ago before getting started. However, the interior aside we had a decent meal and left feeling contented.

We dined here on the Thursday night before Easter weekend. It was quiet throughout the village, this restaurant included. We were shown to our table very quickly, which was nicely decorated. The 4-course set menu is £25 per person, with a good selection of dishes. We received a small glass of pea and mint soup, which had a very fresh and intense flavour. The starters were good, very delicious. The main courses were two extremes. My partner had pork belly and scallops, which he said was the best meal he'd had for a long time. I had 'luxury fish and chips' consisting of salmon, scallops and haddock, battered, with triple cooked chips. Unfortunately, the food was room temperature and the chips were soggy. The presentation was good though. The desserts redeemed the meal, and ended our evening on a high. Sticky toffee pudding and chocolate, ameretto and pistachio tart with salted caramel ice cream.A total shame about my average main course, otherwise this would have been a 5-star review.

We were lucky enough to enjoy a 4 course meal here as part of a deal with the Royal Oak hotel. The food is simply outstanding, everything cooked to perfection!Pigeon breast was just pink, just how it should be, tender and tasty.Lamb main is superb.Service was great, we had a trainee waitress who worked hard to give us a great dining experience. This is the best place to eat in Betws-y-Coed, try it you won't be disappointed.

We went here for lunch on a rainy Thursday in Betws-y-Coed. Chose from the set menu at £13.95 for 3 courses. Good quality food well presented. Local organic beef was delicious. We would go back again if we were in the area.

As a family, we visit the Royal Oak frequently. The Sunday lunch we had today is excellent value for money (3 course for just under £15) the food it cooked to a high standard using fresh ingredients and local produce. The food is really good, but the welcome we receive at the hotel is even better. Most staff are local and speak Welsh and have been working there for a while as we have been seeing the same friendly faces there for years. The Llugwy room is modern and decorated to a high standard. The Lounge is cosy during winter months with coal fires and comfy seating. Good with children, crayons and paper, good menu and baby changing, our son loves it as we have been visiting since he was 2 weeks old, so all the staff know him also, which is lovley! All in all we really enjoy visiting the Royal Oak and will be back again very soon. Thank you for making our eating out occassions so enjoyable for us as a family. Looking forward to see the Christmas menu!

This restaurant has a diverse menu that includes game, seafood, lamb and beef plus some veggie foods and tantalizing desserts. The wine list is also wide ranging. Service is good and it is competitive with free standing restaurants.

After a taxing walking up Snowdon we decided to eat here. What a good idea that was. The set menu offering 3 courses for £25 is excellent value. Some of the food on offer was not what I expected to find in a tiny village in north Wales. My starter for instance - ceviche of scallops with lime sabayon. I kid you not. It was very nice, and there was plenty of it.When it came to main courses it got even better. 2 of us opted for the rack of lamb. Cooked to perfection with a generous serving of veg. 2 others opted for the fillet steak Wellington. I think the lamb was a better decision.Dessert was a cheese board which could have been a bit better, given the quality of what had gone before it, but I still cleared my plate.Service was great, our waitress was really friendly and we never had to wait long between courses, despite the fact the restaurant was busy. It's well worth trying if you want to treat yourself and forget the sore knees and thighs!

There are a few excellent places to eat in Betws-y-Coed and this is another we have now added to our list of favourites. The Llugwy restaurant is at the top end of the budget scale. If you are looking for something less pricy then the Royal Oak has other good options we enjoy for eating out on a lower budget. We ate in the Llugwy on a bustling Saturday night in May. The food was excellent, the service supurb and the atmosphere was unlike anything we've experienced in Betws with a real buzz throughtout the entire hotel. The recently refurbished Llugwy restaurant is comfortable, stylish and makes for a truly enjoyable night out. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our night out and will certainly consider booking the Llugwy again for a special occasion treat.

Had an excellent meal at The Llugwy Riverside Restaurant, Royal Oak, Betws-y-coedI liked many items on the menu, therefore, making a choice was not an easy decision! The food was delicious, we started with an amuse-bouche of mushroom topped with basil oil. I would love the recipe – need I say more! As a starter I opted for the Welsh Belly Pork with Anglesey King Scallops, followed by Sea Bass as a main course and finished with Banana Panacotta with banana fritter, and toffee sauce. Very enjoyable. The staff were attentive, the newly decorated surroundings delightful, and the full restaurant relaxed to the sound of the resident Welsh harpist. All in all, a lovely way to celebrate our wedding anniversary! Thank you, diolch yn fawr.

Medium rare steak was well done, upon advisement there was no attempt to rectfy. The winelist was quite narrow. The waitresses comment: I don't drink red wine. Enough said really. In sure there are others nearby that offer better servie and better quality.

Craig y don takeaway ! Used to be so nice and reasonable price but today paid over £10 for two sandwiches with no salad and not a lot of meat. The blonde woman working behind the counter does not listen to the order given to her and often gets it wrong because of this and certainly does have an attitude problem, maybe she needs some training in in customer care ! Definitely won’t be going back, unfortunately !

If you have a dog there are seats outside but if it's windy don't loose your hat. Food and drinks are lovely.
