We used to go to the pub in Clitheroe that Carl & Janet had and missed them when they moved to Chipping. We intended visiting them in Chipping but Covid, illness ect. prevented us going until last night. Nothings changed - excellent food, huge portions. The butcher hadn’t delivered meat so only chicken or fish dishes on the menu but 7/8 different choices of each. They had the usual steak pudding or lasagne as well. I had a chicken sizzler with a lemon and ginger sauce, my friend had chicken in a cream & brandy sauce and our husbands both had the steak pudding. We didn’t realise how much we’d missed them until we’d had our meal. Nothing is too much trouble. The wait was expected as Janet makes all the meals fresh but worth waiting for. Very reasonable prices for such quality food. We certainly won’t leave it as long to visit next time. EXCELLENT! Thank you for making us feel so welcome - like long lost friends 😊x

I'm a regular walker in the hills and fells of this area and if I'm within 6 miles of Chipping I always include this pub in the walk. It's a no nonsense down to earth pub with a great selection of beers, but the highlight is, without doubt, the food. The standard menu is extensive and varied and there always seems to be a 'Specials Board' too. I've never had a bad meal here, in fact, they've all been outstanding. Sorry I don't know the chefs name but she prepares and cooks every meal from scratch and certainly knows what's she's doing and cares about each meal. Great taste and generous portions too. Why would you go anywhere else?

We were looking at the two pubs in Chipping for Sunday lunch and opted to try The Tilly’s, what a good choice. A varied menu but in the end we decided on the roast beef dinner....it didn’t disappoint. There were 3 thick slices of roast beef laid on top of a mound of smooth mash, accompanied by roast potatoes and 2 freshly made Yorkshire’s awash with a generous helping of delicious gravy. Served on the side was a big bowl of veggies, cauliflower cheese, chunky cut carrots and peas. Nothing pretentious, just homecooking at its best, we could not fault. Like others have commented, the portions are generous and neither of us could finish. Our dog was happy when the chef gave him a plate of off cuts of beef, even those were generous in size.

My friends and I had a fabulous evening at this perfect village pub. We sampled lots of Tapas from the extensive menu and will need to return to try some of the other dishes. Everything we ate was simply delicious and accompanied by great drinks from an interesting list of very good wines at affordable prices. Please be aware that Tapas is served on Thursdays and that on all other evenings there are many more dishes to choose from. Janet the owner/chef only knows how to cook and serve good food.

The pub is clearly newly decorated in a tasteful manner. We ordered the homemade steak pudding and a Cheeseburger. Both were great but the steak pudding was particularly outstanding. The portions were very generous and we therefore could not squeeze dessert in before facing the rain and thunder. The service was fast but very friendly and accommodating. After an absolute mud bath of a walk (which we ended early by trespassing our way over to a road - so sue me), the Tillotsons Arms in Chipping was a welcome sight. Such a nice place, a refreshingly quirky little pub and we loved it. Well banked coal fire in the main room, stone floors and some nice beers on tap. The food was a real surprise too: I went for my usual post walk fish n chips (even though we'd only actually walked about a mile), "she" went for steak and ale pie. Generous portions and really nicely cooked - the batter on the fish was crisp and golden, the fish fresh - really good chips too. Loved it. There's nice little touches like Trivial Pursuits on the table for you to amuse yourself with and funny little quotes and things dotted all over. There are about five, possibly six, tables in the main area, a sofa area and then a sort of game/small function area. Best of all though, the barman, landlord and other customers were chatty, friendly and interested in us and our aborted walk. Great place and we'll definitely be back.

I ate here on New Year's Day as part of a family group of 16 of us who were staying at the nearby Youth Hostel. We needed to get comfortable, warm and well-fed so we walked to Chipping village to see what was on offer. We hadn't booked for food as I couldn't get through on the phone number, so 8 children and 8 adults just turned up on the day! We didn't hold out much hope for getting a table on New Year's Day but we were accomodated without any fuss. There's a family room around the back with a pool table, that was perfect for our older children. Each table had some Trivial Pursuit cards and a box of dominoes, which provided entertainment for the old gimmers. There was a good choice of traditional pub meals and most of us chose either burger, fish & chips or steak & ale pie. All of the food was delicious and much appreciated. The beer was also excellent and good value.I would recommend the Tillotson's unreservedly for anyone who is passing through Chipping. We had to wait a while but the chicken roast dinner was worth it - absolutely delicious, all freshly cooked and great value. Good choice of ales, welcoming to dogs and children. One of the best places we found in the area. Highly recommended.

This village pub has a friendly atmosphere and serves a variety of meals. I like the beer battered fish and chips. They have real ales such as Hawkshead and the local Bowland beer. In winter there is an open fire and in summer a lovely beer garden behind the pub.

It was that good on our last visit we decided a return was warranted. We made a mid week visit around lunch time after walking the dogs down at Brock Bottom. We ordered drinks had a quick study of the menu and went and sat by the fire. This time our little family group chose from the 2 for £10 menu and from the main menu. No one was disappointed with the food portions or quality and taste, there was a little wait for the food as it was cooked from fresh no reheats here and as we all know when you cook at home food takes time to prepare and cook its not microwave "ding when done" stuff from a packet. As always the real ale was on form.We will return

Our first experience of the Tillotsons Arms will be our last as we sampled what in our long experience of dining out was a world record wait for food. Despite a friendly welcome, a great menu, wonderful decor and great value for money, that would certainly put us off ever setting foot in there again, which is such a shame. We were dining with our 11 year old daughter and she was close to tears with hunger as it took 45 minutes for the arrival of a shared garlic bread side dish and then another lengthy wait after that was cleared before the main courses came. They were delicious and really good value, with the child eating free, but we had long passed the point of caring by then. There was a 'sorry for the delay' as the food was delivered and a further apology on us paying, but never an explanation and no attempt at any stage to keep us informed. Never again.

I am a regular visitor to the Tillotsons Arms and have recently moved to the village. The choice and quality of food on the menu is second to none, all home cooked 'real' food and there is a good choice of real ale which is kept well. The atmosphere in the pub is superb and it has a nice quirky traditional English country pub feel with its open fires and amusing quotes on the walls! I would recommend this pub to anyone, I even call in sometimes with the dog after a walk across the fields who is also made to feel welcome!I am proud to now have this pub as my local and visit it as often as the wife allows for food and real ale!

We were hiking in the area and found this pub open and dog friendly (a bonus)The Tillotsons Arms is run by a friendly landlord - CurlyAnd I wish it was my local, a proper pub good food, good beer and friendly locals. There is a varied menu sitting above a log fire.We opted for two meals from the 2 for £10 menu. The food was good quality, home made and a reasonable sized portion, brilliant value. Very tasty no complaints at all.I opted for one of the locally brewed guest beers which was very well kept so I had to try more.Would we go back YES and soon.

If you want the real old English pub experience, complemented by an up to date menu then don't miss this pub. It wasn't our first choice, but I'm so glad the other pub was shut...our day was made by the wholesome welcome and filling food. All washed down with soft drink/real ale (which hubby told me was one of the best he'd ever tasted!)Lovely old comfy chairs and a roaring log fire. Locals there so that's always a recommendation.Definitely one to come back to.

We have eaten here as a family several times within the last couple of years and have never had a bad meal. The portion sizes are very generous and the menu varied. With special offers on most of the time such as buy certain meals and kids eat free or two meals for £10.00.Their can be a bit of a wait sometimes for food, but as it is served fresh on the premises it is to be expected however we are always kept updated. When it arrives the food is of an excellent quality and hot and the presentation is also very good! I would reccomend the sea food mixed grill its fab! (Well Done Billy!!)The service is very good, with the waiters asking if everything is ok and bringing extra sauces etc.All in all a good meal and a friendly local pub with a great atmosphere, would reccomend

The real ale pub of the area, with friendly natives and a knowledgeable landlord. Reasonably priced food, comfy chairs for us old folks, and a nice warm fire. Very pretty floral garden in summer.

Having visited the "Tilly" several times, it has always been a warm and friendly greeting. Both the locals and visitors are always willing to engage in pleasant conversation, along with the many four legged guests. The food is good quality and plentiful, and cooked fresh to order. The beers are local and kept really well. A place not to be missed at any time of the year, either if staying in the area or just a days drive.

I am a regular visitor to the Tillotson's and often eat there. The food is fantastic , good home cook food, excellent local produce, generous portions and definitely value for money. Me and my hubby often plum for the 2 for £10 meal deal - the plaice, chips and mushy peas is the best. Big filling meal, exceptional value. The atmosphere is always friendly and upbeat and warm and cosy in the Winter, making it a perfect pit stop when walking the Bowland Fells. But the best thing about the Tillotsons is the ale. It's well kept and there is always a good choice of local Bowland ales and other Northern beers that haven't travelled far. I visited the Tillotsons today with a party of 8 (my in-laws who were visiting from Wigan). The age range was between 40 and 80, we all dined with a mixture of homemade steak pies, fish, salads and roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. Service was great and we all had a fab time.

My wife & I visited the Tillotson Arms last night , Sat 9th Feb and it was well worth the trip out. We arrived at approx 4.30pm and the clientel at that time were mainly walkers and young families who were also eating and listening to the comments were extremley satisfied with there choice of food, I opted for 'Curlys big mixed grill' while my wife chose 'Tillis chilli' which were both delicious and extremley filling. Be prepared to wait slightly for the food as a lot of the menu is cooked fresh but the landlord informed us about this first and updated us several times how long it was going to be which certainly gave me time to sample the local bitter which I found very agreeable. What I really liked about this place apart from the food was it has a nice relaxed atmosphere from the licencee's to the locals who frequent here so we're very much looking forward to a return visit soon !

A great little pub - really friendly. Serving fab pub grub, big portions of good honest home cooked food. Loads of character, smashing landlord and landlady. My hubby tells me the real ales are top notch. We visit the local caravan site regularly and have been to 'Tillies' on many occasions.

We had a pleasant lunch at The Btown Cow. The dining room was pleasant if a little dark, however its an old building so that's OK. Very pleasant young waiter. The menu is quite big and it's very varied, something for everyone. I had vegetarian Toad In The Hole, excellent , well presented and delicious. Husband chose the open beef sandwich, which unfortunately wasn't as good. The baguette was tough and the steak was "not the best". Our coffee at the end of the meal was really just froth!! However, it was clean and comfortable, a very pleasant young waiter and the loos were spotless.

A great place we stumbled on after the fireworks at the castle. The reedley hallows beer went down very very well. We had a nibbles selection amazing value at 4 small plates for £20. I had lamb rump for main and my wife had ahicken Kiev which she thoroughly enjoyed. No room for a pud, hopefully next time. Very attentive service, great food and reasonably priced. Will defo return very soon.

Walked in after a 4 hour drive today, didn't know the place, never seen it before and just wanted a drink before driving again. The woman at the bar was super unhelpful and scowled at me the whole way through me ordering our drinks, for £16.40 for two pints i would have expected at least friendly service. I get it I was not in suit but does that deserve to be scowled at and made to feel super unwelcome. We finished our drinks and got the hell out of there as quick as we could. Will never return and have already told my wealthier friends and family not to attend this place

This was not our first visit to the Calf’s Head but it has to be the best meal we have ever had. It was a large family gathering and despite the size of the party the service was friendly and efficient. Looking forward to a return visit, hopefully not in the too distant future.
