Booked to have Sunday lunch with friends we all ordered the roast beef, it arrived the vegetables were OK the roast beef was totally inedible it was bleeding and tough and completely awful we complained to the landlady who asked us if we would like another meat and we ordered the gammon when it arrived it was raw it had not been cooked at all it was a complete health hazard it would have made you quite ill if eaten. The yorkshire puddings were frozen ones the gravy was like water I'm sorry to say it was prob the worst meal l have ever been served. The landlady did apologise to us but we left immediately. We will not be visiting again

Limited menu after ordering so alternatives had to be found. Only rib eye steaks left even tho early dinner Felt very much like our party was the evening entertainment

After weeks of lockdown like so many of us we had probably got into that rut, “Oh I can’t be bothered, let us stay in it is cheaper to drink at home” and those comfortable thoughts had persisted along with the vision of packed pubs of fellow drinkers having to use Apps to get a drink and order food, all in all not an enjoyable vision for a night out. Last night (16th July) however was different and at the end of the afternoon for some reason we were ready for an evening out. After a little (very little) humming and haring we decided to take the plunge and jog off over the hill to the pub and what a surprise to find that little haven to be, yet again, a pleasure to visit. When we arrived most of the tables at the front were taken so our first thoughts were, are we going to get in, but there were plenty more to the side and rear. Inside there were sufficient tables that had been slightly re-positioned to suit and no standing at the bar. Back again was the spirit of fun and enjoyment that we had been missing in the gloom of lockdown, the pub staff were there with a renewed bounce. It was a real pleasure to be with happy smiling people again. The drinks were refreshing and enjoyed, flowing down well. The food was again the normal high quality and I was lucky enough to get the last portion of steak pie which is my favourite. Watching the meals going to the tables outside made my mouth water somewhat especially the Kebabs which looked large and succulent. All in all a good evening out with good food, drinks, excellent company and nearly, as possible as you can get, back to normal. I would say give it a try, it is worth it in these difficult times to get that smile back.

A revisit her with a group of friends for a catch up over a meal. Although we had booked, we were the only diners in the bar. A choice of half a dozen tables, we chose a corner one with ample room for us all, however in hindsight, this was quite chilly as there was a draught from the kitchen area. There was also a lot of noise from the bar area, with either a tv and/or music which was distracting when trying to chat. We ordered drinks and looked through the menu. There was a choice of English 'pub grub' consisting of steaks, fish, scampi, pies etc with a couple of specials on a blackboard. My meal of fish and chips, was by far the best of the bunch. It had a lovely light golden batter, crispy chunky chips and fish shop style mushy peas. the fish was cooked perfectly and was clean, white and tasty. My friends ordered Cumberland sausage and mash and fish pie respectively. The sausages were tasty, and came with a good serving of mash, vegetables and gravy, although my friend was unable to decide if the mash was real potato or the packet variety. My other companion had chosen the fish pie, which she related was a tad disappointing. Rather than an individual portion, it was a serving from a larger dish and a little on the small side, and a little unappealing to look at. Served with vegetables (cauliflower, white cabbage and carrots), the whole plate was bland in appearance, although she reported that the taste was ok. Following a short break, we ordered desserts which were one jam sponge and custard and two apple pie and custard. My sponge appeared to be the microwave variety, however tasted lovely with lots of jam and custard. My friends reported that the apple pie was also nice, again with lots of custard. To finish two of us had hot drinks which were a nice end to the meal. In total for 2 courses each, two rounds of soft drinks and two hot drinks was a very respectable £52. Would we visit here again - unsure, but a possibility

Well they say you can’t judge a book by its cover and I would say that if your first and only impressions of this pub are anything but quality you have missed out. Having now visited several times our expectations have been raised on each occasion. It is a pub and a country pub at that, it still has its quaint charm, and is not dressed up with the modern antiquities that are used in the updated pubs these days. At the front of the house is the Landlord (John) who makes you feel welcome and always has a smile though now showing the signs of the battering of his Rugby League days, but I must say always cheerful. The bar and serving staff whom the landlord sometimes assists are always very happy and smiling and generally fitting in with the cheerful atmosphere. Then we have the important member of staff the Landlady (Julie) rarely seen at the front of house because she is undertaking her wizardry in the back preparing the food that we love to eat. So what have we tried the Prawn Cocktails, the Crispy Garlic Mushrooms and the Fishcake for starters (my partner being a small eater has even had the fishcake as a main course such is the portion size). We have tried the Mixed Grill, the Rib eye steak, Chicken Caesar Salad, the Steak and Ale pie, the Scampi the Lasagne and now the Sunday Lunch. We tend to stick to the Ice Cream (Burgess’s?) for desert as it is easier to digest after being filled by the main courses. I could say I like them all, the pastry for the pie is nicer that the norm when you go elsewhere, the mixed grill is brilliant too and vegetables are always good and tasty. I will add here there are always the Specials which we have yet to try on the beam overhead. We pop over the hill to this pub it is worth the visit hopefully not too many people will read this because how will I get a seat if it becomes too popular.

I've heard of (& driven past) The Tiger for years but never (till now) been. It really was a treat. Firstly, a nice welcoming gentle feel to the place. Friendly staff. Not too full, not too empty. A mid-week lunchtime & a surprisingly wide choice on the menu. My friend & I went retro and returned to our childhood with tender Calves liver & onion on a creamy mash...in a creamy sauce. Pink in the middle this liver was 'to die for'. Delicious. A reasonable price and (we both thought) worthy of many a Tigerly return!!

Myself and two friends were walking the Wolds Way. On the second day of the walk we made a slight detour into North Newbald for a spot of lunch at the Tiger Inn on a recommendation. On entering the pub the landlord said we could not order food as he had a table of nine that had already ordered. We said we were willing to wait but were told that it was not possible as they were "flat out!!!". We ordered drinks, 3 packets of crisps (which we felt were served to us reluctantly) and then found a table. Within 15 minutes a gentleman came into the pub ordered food and was promptly served. During this time the landlady passed by our table numerous times with the food for the table of nine. My friend queried as to whether they only served locals to which the Landlady looked rather perplexed. When we explained that the Landlord had told us we could not order food, she replied that we could have had food had we not left the pub. I replied that we had not left the pub and that she had passed our table three or four times when she served the table of nine. My friends and myself came to the conclusion that on entering the pub the Landlord had made up his mind that he would not be serving food to us. I would like to add that we were clean and dry (as were our boots). They had a sign outside saying walkers welcome which we politely said they should remove. Other pubs along the walk made us most welcome especially the Ship Inn, Muston. We were under the impression that the remit of a Landlord was to provide a welcome to patrons and an amiable atmosphere (which was definitely lacking on this occasion) Overall a very disappointing visit.

My piece of lamb was very small it was served with carrots, green beans and broccoli. It came piping hot on red hot plates, excellent. I recently took visiting family to the Tiger pub - North Newbald. What a mistake !The landlord, was grumpy unhelpful and rude.He raised his voice when I questioned him about optional menu choices - for children and vegetarians. I had to repeat my drinks order several times. As he got very flustered. We ended up with a barely warm cappuccino, and a pot of tea that was cold. If fact, it was a pot of tea containing dregs of stewed tea - that had belonged to another customer. When we asked for a fresh brew , his reply was " I'll have to boil the kettle then."We drank our drinks, then headed to the Jolly sailor in Gilberdyke . Where the meal was amazing.

This pub sits at the hub of Ramblers and cyclists routes and as such expects and achieves passing trade. Its a good job too, because if it did not - it would not survive. With hard working, friendly, enthusiastic landlords having to close pubs all around the country due to dwindling trade such opportunities would be rejoiced at - not taken for granted.I have visited this 'old fashioned' pub four times, each time I have been underwhelmed. Its scruffy rather than quaint and lacks any character or personality. The Landlord is rude and surly, although his other stuff try their best to compensate and were pleasant. The menu looks great but the food is assembled in a curious way and is as basic as you can get. Thats if it is available!! Twice I have been left with a singular choice and on my last visit was told that there was no food left at 7pm. Its states they serve to 8pm.I was with some business people who were visiting and had travelled a long way and they were astonished especially at the attitude of the Landlord.Although we were all buying drinks, we suggested we could get some fish and chips as an alternative as he could not provide food as stated. He refused to let us sit outside to eat them.We left. The Gunu next door had a different attitude. They welcomed us with open arms. Although they did not offer food they allowed us to use their facilities and were rewarded by our thirsty custom. The Local football Team are known as the Tigers. Sadly they were relegated out of the Premier league last season. With poor attitudes and service this pub may follow the same fate

The Tiger Inn is a lovely little pub which serves tasty food (I love the fish & chips), great draft beers and selections of ciders/wines, friendly and efficient service all set in a cosy indoor setting or pretty outdoor area with plenty of seating and a sun trap to the back where the car park is. I always enjoy a visit to The Tiger Inn! And its excepts dogs which is always a bonus for me! Final comment, I read the negative review about it being anti-children, I disagree. Julie and John are always friendly to children I have visited with, but at the end of the day it is a small pub with no play area, its more of an adults drinking pub with good food - not a crèche...that's all I have to say about that.

This feels very much like a local pub. It’s a bit out of the way for any main road traffic. But it’s still open, so they’re doing something right, and good luck to them. One reason is that it delivers what you expect - it is the quintessential English pub. Well furnished, good selection of ales, comfortably quiet, a great place for relaxation. It’s easy to see how residents of North Newbald would make this their regular.

Only had beet here but from what I can see the food looks good and customers were clearly enjoying it. The landlord and his wife are lovely. It's an inviting warm pub with a log burner. There are some good ales and selection of real ale. I really like North Newbald and this pub is pitched just right, ample parking helps too.

Well kept beer. Tasty, proper homemade food served in generous but not over-facing portions. Good, friendly service. Comfortable seating, cosy decor and welcoming log burner. Dogs allowed in...an absolute necessity for us!

We have been four times when we moved to the village. But we will never go again. The manager is very rude shows no respect for anyone and he looks at you if you are a tramp. also the manager hates family's going in with there children. We have been in the Village 5 months and we find that the village people also find him EXTREMELY RUDE. We are very Disappointed because there is only two pubs in the village. But may say that i find the Gun across the road a great pub with great beer and also the food and staff are outstanding. everyone is made welcome the landlady is a wonderful Host.

Me and my 3 friends hiked from Brantingham to North Newbald today (18/10/14). We arrived at the Tiger Inn approx 10 minutes before it opened. We have been to the pub many times before and spent a considerable amount of money in there. Today, as the pub wasnt yet open and the seating areas were all vacant we decided to sit at one of the seats in the pub car park and start eating our packed lunch until the pub opened and we could then get a drink. The landlord came out of the pub and stood in the doorway of the back door and shouted at us that we are sat in his seats eating our own food. We explained that the pub wasnt open when we arrived and that we were coming in for a drink. After his continuous shouting at us saying things like he wouldnt come to our garden and sit and eat his own food, we decided to leave. This is a public house not his own private garden !! He was extremely rude which was totally uncalled for and he showed no respect or manners towards us. Had he demonstrated a bit of restraint and respect he maybe could have come across to us and had an adult and respectful conversation with us and allowed us to explain our intention to come into the pub as soon as it was open. The last thing he shouted to us was that we are not to come into the pub for a drink.....so I think that means we are barred !!! This was a very unusual experience and we were dumbfounded at his rudeness. How does he manage to keep customers if that is how he treats people !! He has lost our custom and we will not be returning back to that pub, there is much nicer one across the road called The Gnu with a lovely landlady.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Tiger Inn. We happened to be there during the beer festival this year which was a pleasant surprise, I ordered the fish and chips and thoroughly enjoyed it. The pub has a great atmosphere and the staff are extremely friendly, it's well worth a visit.

We do love the Tiger...honest, home-made food with very homely service. We love the traditional feel of the place and the warm welcome we receive every time we eat here, sometimes we even catch the very entertaining quiz . I can honestly say that the value for money here is great...see you again soon!!!

Had a meal with my wife here last week, locally sourced fresh fish, chips and peas (mushy of course). The fish was some of the best I've had in a long time, and washed down by a couple of very well kept real ales, from a choice of probably 4 or 5 different real ales.It looks like the owners have taken a lot of time to furnish and decorate the place, with some very comfortable chairs. It was a chilly evening, so the log burning fire was very welcome and added to the feel of the place.A lot of locals drifting in and out for an evening drink, mainly couples but one or two larger groups too. Never heard a word of complaint about the food or the drinks, so thats' got to be good.Sits right on the village green, with smashing views over the Yorkshire Wolds, I can imagine sitting outside on the benches having a nice cold drink when the weather improves. Idyllic. All in all one of the better choices in the area for what is more than just "pub grub".Recommended.

Was stumbled across by accident when driving from Beverley to Howden. We was given a warm welcome by the landlord and landlady. We was advised to order the fish and chips as it was brought in fresh that morning straight from the dock! My wife had the Pie (another home made recommendation) We visited on a Tuesday and left just a the pub started to fill up for the quiz. Quite a cracker or a village pub!

Great host, serves excellent beers. Order with ease by friendly waitress. Food delivered hot and fresh with great salad accompaniment, waitress asked if everything was ok, attentive service with drinks orders. Great value for money and even on a weekly night the place was filled with people enjoying a nice hand pulled pint. Nice atmosphere all round. Would recommend for good informal hospitality.

Sarah was very attentive. The rest of the staff need to be trained by her. On booking to see if we could have a table the man wasn't, quite in the room

We waited an hour for eggs and toast. Owner only cared about Door Dash orders going out the door. Given that Courtenay has so many great casual dining places, give this one a pass. Give your business to restaurants that care about providing good service to their customers.

Went today for lunch , I decided i was having soup , they said it was the last portion so that was fine , I asked for no bread which , when it came it was the smallest half bowl of soup for £6.25 , I didn’t want anything knocking off for not having the bread but did expect a full dish, looking at the menu I could of had a small breakfast, or sandwich for about the same price , it’s soup where do they get over £6 for it!!
