Haven't been here for ages, and wondered why after today's lunch. It's good, friendly and the food is good value. What do you want from a lunch venue? This place offers hearty or light lunches with a difference.

Firstly the food is always delicious, lemon cake to die for and the service is always fabulous and friendly. Myself and my teen daughter have been in quite a few times recently with our puppy and the staff are always lovely and attentive. Today I had an unfortunate experience with another customer, our puppy got a bit upset when my daughter went to the toilet and was whimpering and barked a few times. I tried my best to comfort him and calm him down and turned to the table behind me to apologise and the lady was extremely rude and told me I shouldn’t be in a cafe with the puppy then continued to moan and grumble about it to her husband so that I could hear. Having had a bad few days and being unwell, I got quite upset and was going to leave because I was feeling so anxious. The staff came over to me and were really lovely and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and found us another table, and checked on me multiple times to make sure I was okay and comfort me. So thank you to the staff, we will be back, along with Milo the puppy.

The BEST hollandaise sauce I have had in years, rich and creamy. I had almost written off eggs benedict as I was fed up with vinegary sauce and had all but decided I had imagined how yummy it was when I was a child. My faith is restored!! Had a lovely lunch following a long walk in rural North West Dorset. Two of us had the onion bhaji burger and the other had a chickpea quesadilla. Both were definitely unique dishes but both amazing! Reasonably priced as well in our opinion. I have been here before and have always enjoyed it but sadly do not get to visit Sherborne as much as I used to. The only issue we had (and this is no fault of the restaurant) is we all felt that some of the other customers were almost looking down on us - it didn’t really bother us but unfortunately there is still some of the Old Sherborne about! Something to be aware of if you are visiting and don’t know the town very well. Will definitely be back the next time I head up to Sherborne, which I hope is very soon!

My husband and I called in yesterday for a late lunch- 3.30. It wasn’t busy. We were told to find a table and a server would come and take our order. We sat by the window near the entrance, in full view of the counter. We waited…and waited…. 25 minutes and no-one approached us. Eventually we got up and left! We have eaten at this cafe once before , a few months ago. That time we did eventually get served. Coincidentally though, we did witness a family of 5 at the next table get up and leave as they were fed up with waiting for someone to take their order. They really do need to sort this out. I would rather they take my order and explain there’d be a 20 minute or so delay. Being ignored after an unacceptable length of time is not on!

We had a late lunch, my friend had soup and a delicious sandwich. I had a chicken and avocado sandwich which was divine. Half an hour later we both ordered scones with jam and fresh cream - absolutely awful - scone was very under baked and heavy, the jam was anything but, it was merely seeded syrup I would expect to see on a seaside ice-cream. How any of the team cannot see what they served was beyond us, no skill required to see it was not acceptable. Would rather have given a score if one, but the first course was superb and received a refund for scones (quite rightly so). We are holidaying in the area again in the area but do not intend returning to this establishment if they have not have their eyes tested!

This place serves nice enough food but the service is very slow and frustrating in my opinion. We waited twenty minutes to have our order taken and another twenty minutes to receive our food. It was a quiet Thursday afternoon so I'm not sure what the hold up was. A bonus is they have gluten free options which aren't always easy to come by in smaller towns.

Today we had such a wonderfull Time visiting sherborne castle including the tour. We then said we would go into town and find somewhere nice to eat as we had not visited before..after parking up we walked around looking for somewhere nice and came across the three wishes which looked a nice place..after sitting down and browsing the special boards we waited for someone to bring over some menus to look at and order some drinks..we must of sat there 10 mins before we were even given a menu to look at..we then decided on what we wanted and waited for someone to take our order..twice the table next to us had items brought out and still we were ignored..my wife had noticed that people who came in after us had already had their oreders taken . We reluctantly decided to leave and the girl who had handed us the menu didn't even acknowledge us.. Very poor service.

Popped in with a couple of visitors for a drink and snack, place was fairly quiet after lunchtime but although there were four of us at an empty table we were ignored whilst other arrivals were served. The waiting became too long so we were preparing to leave when we were served. We placed an order for scones and various preservatives plus cream and butter. One order was correct, one had no butter and the two that were identical came on one plate with two scones, one butter and one jam even though we were supplied with four knives and serviettes! We ate our snacks but when paying, were asked if everything was all right and informed the staff member about the incorrect order but it made no difference to the total bill. All in all, terrible service, so never again!

Unfortunately, our experience of food and service here was not great. Constantly had to ask the staff for the basics, like cutlery and condiments, and missing plates of food. The salad dumped on the plates with the sandwiches was inedible, brown, limp and looked like it was probably cultivating ecoli by that point - such a waste of food as was unable to eat it. The table we were on upstairs wasn’t particularly safe for children, with missing pieces of dado rail around the back of the table and exposed, rusty looking nail heads, ideal for catching clothing on. Really didn’t seem worth £120.

My partner and I went there not long ago. What a disappointment! There was nothing on the menu either of us wanted so we opted for; we ordered a herbal tea for me, a cappuccino and two scones with jam and cream, my partner asked if he could have extra cream. Our drinks were brought to us then ten minutes later a young lad brought two scones with one serving of jam and one of cream on one plate. “There you go” he said. I asked for another plate and a serving of jam and cream as you would have expected. There was a big sigh, and as the scones looked dry and grey we both said not to bother, we didn’t want them. By this time we had finished our drinks anyway. At the till paying for our coffee the person there had such attitude. We will never go there again.

A soul-less experience and neither the food nor the cafe itself justified the menu prices. My ‘small soup and half a toastie’ was tiny and not particularly nice. Having visited previously and experienced a lunch that was not as described, we thought we would try again in order to support local business. I proceeded to order a Club Sandwich but asked the server to have it made on plain white bread, untoasted. The food duly came but it was heavily toasted and bore no resemblance to a proper club sandwich which should have layers of thinly sliced bread. This was just two thick pieces of toast with the ingredients between. Having accepted the food on the previous occasion, I decided to return the item as I was not prepared to pay for something that was not as described or requested. The owner/manageress was indignant that I a) returned the order and b) refused to order a replacement, turning her back and walking off before I had finished explaining. The young waiting staff were pleasant on both occasions but the owner/manager needs a wake up call in manners and to properly name their dishes or at least explain why they may differ from the norm. Beware - their ‘Toasties are not a proper sealed toastie, they’re just two pieces of toasted bread, as is their Club Sandwich. Customers have a choice. There will be no third wish.

I did not want to spoil the occasion so I didn't complain. As soon as my husband started to eat his mushroom dish he asked a waitress for salt--this is unheard of as he never adds salt to his meal. Coffees lacked strength-- very weak. What should have been a nice occasion was very much tarnished by our disappointment. Won't be returning.

Very polite young staff who cleared & cleaned tables instantly someone left making them available for new customers, which some places in the UK are slow at doing, losing customers. Only thing I would suggest is the wc decor is attended to as it looks a little neglected - paintwork peeling, no toilet roll holder which one did not expect as downstairs is bright, airy and a well thought out design. Having been a long term visitor to the garden centre I thought I would try the restaurant for breakfast for the very first time. I ordered the small breakfast at £12 and was looking forward to it but only to be really disappointed when it took 40 minutes to arrive and the restaurant was not busy at all. Very disappointed. I probably won’t be returning for the long foreseeable future. I did not complain at the time but felt I should share my views.
