Decided to make our first ever stop over in Banbury with a view to taking Jorvic and Paulicarus to Oxford tomorrow. Banbury has lots of pubs to try out and the Three Pigeons took our fancy with its thatched roof, low beams, large inglenook fireplace and central location. Three rooms available. No breakfast but tea, coffee, porridge, biscuits and cakes in the room. Lovely bedroom with en-suite well sheltered from the road noise but they do overlook the beer garden should you retire early. Look out for three pigeons on the thatch! Only two real ales, if you include Doom Bar but also Warwickshire brewery Purity. Had a taster of their Gold. Free Wifi available. Arrived on Flying Ant Day! Happy hour starts at 5pm.

We stayed in this historic Inn & Pub for 2 nights and had a wonderful visit. Our en-suite was very clean and pretty. The bed was comfortable, and I fell asleep right away. Linens and towels were of a high quality. It is within walking distance to the historic Banbury Cross and the historical area. The Manager was delightful and so helpful in recommending places to see and directions. Sulgrave Manor and Broughton Castle are only a short drive away. Take note of the pretty thatched roof and the cute little stone pigeons on the top of the roof. Charming! I would love to stay here again.

My uncle arranged for my sister and me to stay here, we loved the rooms we were allocated, they are beautifully decorated and the attention to detail is fantastic - even providing an additional mirror in front of the window, which was great for doing your make up in. The room was lovely and warm in a cold December night, with an extra blanket. There’s a fan if you’re warm, they’ve really thought of everything! The lady that checked us in was really friendly and a us feel at home. The Inn was very quiet after 11pm. The bathroom is gorgeous, I had a bath and it was so relaxing, it felt like being on a luxury getaway. I’d definitely stay here again!!

Met up with long lost friends here as it was relatively central to where we all live these days. We drove and managed to park in their car park, and others travelled by train and were able to make the short walk from the station. Staff very pleasant and attentive and looked after us well. A couple of decent beers and the food was well cooked and presented. Would recommend if you are in the area.

Stayed here for 1 night and were really happy with it. Staff were really welcoming and friendly, room was a decent size, well appointed and clean. Bed was comfy. Free parking on site. Only slight negative was that the room was a little too hot for us and we couldn't find any way of turning it down, but some people will find that a positive!

We had read the reviews and the reviews for The Three Pidgeons were extremely good especially Sunday roast. It looked like the best place in Banbury, however were bitterly dissapointed. We went for lunch on the Sunday after Fathers day so thought it would be quite and they would have time to give us their full attention. How wrong we were. The service was appaling. The young girl took our order and brought our roast meals we had ordere and . that was it. She didnt ask us if we wanted drinks or if everything was alright. We had ordered a jug of gravy which didnt turn up but was charged for. The food was mediocre but what was unbelievable was that the roast potatoes were cremated. Totally unedible and should never of been served.Rock hard and looked like coal. There was no one to complain to at the time as there were no staff anywhere.

Sad circumstances brought us here for a one night stay, but our choice of accommodation has been spot on. Convenient location, ample parking, quaint, atmospheric, buzzing public rooms, spacious, comfortable bedroom and en suite and, to cap it all, the staff are absolutely wonderful. From the initial booking to the reception to our evening meal (good pub food at decent prices), we couldn't have asked for bigger smiles or better service. Thank you, all.

Nice friendly pub with comfortable rooms, courtyard beer garden (could do with a bit of tidying) good location for a wander in town. Stayed in room 2 and in the morning as my gf was pottering around I heard someone say ‘help me’ ‘help me’ ‘help me’ in a very clear voice, I’d say a young lady but couldnt be certain, thought my gf had left her phone on something playing in the background but it was turned off. I'd been recommended this place so duly booked it and checked in. Only initial gripe was some slightly too loud 'dad-rock' music playing as the pub itself was empty, but it never became an issue. The room itself was fantastic, with a big, comfortable bed, a sofa and a desk to work at, with a very nice bathroom. I was unaware it didn't serve breakfast but I'm hardly going to waste away so it wasn't a problem for me, they do leave you some porridge and pain au chocolat if you're peckish at breakfast time.

This was our first excursion into a restaurant since lock down as one of our party is diabetic. They were very COVID aware and even though they had a limited menu being a Sunday and we sat in the bar area by the doors (which were open), we felt safe and well looked after by the amazing wait staff. The food was excellent and the staff couldn't be more helpful and all Covid measures were taken. We would recommend this restaurant if you can get in as they are only allowing limited tables. Enjoy.

Was visiting Banbury on a Sunday morning in August, and decided to try and find somewhere to have lunch before heading back up north. After a quick look on trip advisor, I thought I'd try The Three Pigeons Inn. Gave them a quick call, and a very helpful lady booked me in for 12:30. On arrival, I had a good choice of tables, and liked the dining area in general. Decided to try the leg of lamb, and I wasn't disappointed. Absolutely beautiful meat, perfectly roasted in my opinion. It came with roast potatoes (goose fat I suspect), roast root vegetables, a Yorkshire pudding, broccoli, cauliflower, and gravy. It was a satisfying and good sized meal, but after a breather I decided to go crazy and try a dessert too - in this case, sticky toffee pudding and custard. Again, really tasty. The whole meal was up there with the best for me.The only thing that equalled the quality of the food was the friendly and efficient service. Everyone I spoke with were excellent, but I have to say a particular thank you to my main server - Brennan. My friend, that was practically faultless service - thank you.I will be back ! :-)

How do you try to forget the annual reminder of the ageing process? By having a beautifully cooked meal served by friendly, charming staff. We stayed in the bar until the early hours chatting with the lovely friendly staff - great atmosphere and good prices. I would highly recommend this accommodation. **I lost my Fitbit and didn’t realise until we had gone back home to York. I emailed and they said they’d let me know if they found it. I had since replaced and forgotten about this. Until a phone call from the manager last week saying they’d deep cleaned the room and found it!! He posted it up to me for free as long as I donated to a good charity cause. (I donated to the local food shelter) I am absolutely blown away with this superb level of customer service. You have been hiding your light under a bushel! I’ve driven past you every day for the last 19 years but it was only yesterday when I was on foot at luncheon and feeling a little peckish popped in to see what was on offer. What a delight! My scallops followed by a ribeye steak were glorious. But even they were surpassed by the little touches that separate the men from the boys: fresh ginger grated into my ginger beer was most agreeable. Nobody has ever tried to talk me out of a blue rib eye because of the potential for uncooked fat in the steak. My plate was completely clean and jolly good it was too. You have a very knowledgeable and thoughtful chef. Thank you. With food of this quality and the proximity of Majestic Wine it was surprising not to see any clarets on the wine list. I shall return.

The Pidgeons is an attractive, thatched pub set at the edge of Banbury town centre. It's a rambling old pub with several areas and good deal of character and a pleasant courtyard garden to the rear. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. There are three handpumps with a couple of Purity ales plus the ubiquitous Doom Bar. Definitely a food led venue, the food is very high quality, freshly prepared from an excellent, interesting menu and I chose the Pan Fried Seabass with Baby Vegetables (£18.50). The fish was beautifully cooked with delicious crispy skin, and the rest of the meal was very well prepared too. Whilst the food is certainly not cheap here, the reason I have given a low rating for value (and 4 stars overall instead of 5) is not due to price but the rather skimpy portion sizes, particularly the vegetables. They do take the word 'baby' in the context of vegetables quite literally - about four or five small carrots and the same number of the most miniscule pieces of broccoli immaginable. As someone who enjoys a hearty meal, I was left wanting more vegetables - a lot more! Aside from this, one could attribute the word 'faultless' to this hostelry.

Every time the food is bang on, with nice eating environment and great service. I had scallops and pigeon that were amazing as ever. My companion had a mozzerella and tomato starter and special house "pie" that was a whole new take on how pies should look and taste. Prices very reasonable for what you get and I only give it a rating of 4 as I suppose 5 is really for Michellin Star type places. I stayed overnight at this Inn to break my journey. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and made me feel very welcome. The room was beautiful - large and very well appointed, with a comfortable sofa and armchair. The one downside was that there was a strange noise, as if a fan was constantly being used. Upon checking this, I was told that it was the extractor fan noise from the kitchen, which would stop once cooking finished for the evening, which it did. The evening meal was very good and I didn't feel awkward being a lone traveller. Unfortunately, breakfast was very disappointing. I had little time, so I opted for cereal and toast with coffee. I had originally asked for fruit and yoghurt, but was disappointed to find that it wasn't stewed fruit, but just whole fruit (apple, orange, kiwi, bananas) put into a bowl to choose from, with low-fat yoghurts. There seemed to be no full-fat option, and I don't eat anything with sweeteners. The coffee was undrinkable due, I think, to the strange water. To be fair, the owner/manager did offer to make me another coffee with filtered water, which I declined. Also, to be fair, it could be that the cooked breakfast would have been wonderful.

Four of us ate here on Fathers Day, we have normally had very good service and food here however today was a let down especially on a special occasion. We had booked a table in advance and when arrived this was not ready. We were shown to a table in the bar. It was very slow service to order drinks and food. Once we received the food it was of good standard. We were not offered any further drinks during our meal and tried to order deserts but gave up. We were informed 2 staff members had not turned up. When asked how long it would be for desserts to arrive once ordered we were just informed they didn't know. As waiting staff were so busy when delivering food to tables they ignored everyone else who wanted to order. I understand it is not ideal when staff don't turn up but atleast apologize for the delays. We gave up trying to order dessert, our plates were not collected after half an hour of us finishing so got up and paid at the bar. No apology or discount offered. Shame as this is not the standard we have come to expect here and put a taint on father's day celebration.

Visited last night, the worse meal I’ve had there I’m sad to say. Ordered fillet steak, how can you get that wrong? The steak had not been cooked on a grill , it was boiled? Turned up a pale lump of meat. Rocket all wet and wilted, tomato dry, chips hardly cooked, white and hard, definitely not twice cooked as advertised. Bad night for the chef or a sign of things to come? I have a table booking in July for a group for Sunday lunch, not feeling confident and may cancel. Need to improve for the sake of your great reputation. Won’t be ordering steak again

On Sunday 16 June we booked a table for 2.30pm and pre-booked our food. On arrival we witnessed absolute chaos at reception/bar with people trying to check into rooms and also arrive for their table bookings. 10 minutes after arriving we were told where our table was and when we found it another group of people were sat there, leaving us just stood amongst other eating customers. With only 3 staff working on an extremely busy day we just kept being told ‘give us 2 minutes’. At 3pm we decided enough was enough and walked out as there was no prospect of us getting a table any time soon. Whilst stood waiting we heard one man complain there food didn’t all come out together and some of them had already finished, a table of four got up and left as they had waited over half an hour to order desserts, another table of 3 had their sauces/gravy brought out while half way through their dinner. The whole experience is so disappointing as we have always had great food and great service in the past. To make matters worse, as it was Father’s Day, we couldn’t find anywhere else to eat! Not quite sure what it will take to entice us back any time soon! I’m not quite sure what has changed but if you want to stay open, you need to sort something out sooner rather than later

We ate here on Father’s Day as a family of four. The pub is very nice and cosy with lots of stone and beams. Our table was nice although it hadn’t been cleaned very well as it was sticky to the touch.

Having spent a few days at this hotel recently, we had a wonderful experience in this well run establishment. All the food was excellent and really enjoyed the Full English Breakfast. Enjoyed good night's sleep as all the rooms overlook the quiet rear courtyard.

It seems this property has just changed hands and if our experience was anything to go by it does not bode well. We have as a group of people been going there for 4 years being a geographically central point for us to meet. I travel from Hove. The food apart from one point was fine but service appalling. We had a complaint about a hair being found in a starter dish and instead of apologising and replacing it the owner/manager came back and said it wasn't the kitchen so it must have been from one of us. Hair was black and for us grey and white heads not likely. Service SLOW AND SLOW. 2 main courses arrived 10 minutes after the rest (pasta). Coffee and tea service (and getting the bill) appalling. We told the manager all this so didn't just mutter among ourselves. Will not be going back.

Booked one nights accommodation whilst visiting Banbury. Asked for a quite Room, were shown to Room 1, initially looked nice, however on closer inspection the room needed a deep clean. Carpet, chair all stained and marked, tops of tables in both bedroom and bathroom marked, only one set of toiletries per two people (£130 per night!) Broken ceramic holder and toilet seat in the bathroom very unhygienic.

Stopped in while lost asking for directions. We had also missed eating since breakfast so were also looking for somewhere to eat since it was after 4:00 and the kitchen was closed. The chef, Adam, overheard our conversation and offered to make us something!!!! The food was great but not as much as his positive overture. At the same time, Lucy lent a friendly ear and helped us with finding a good room in the area since they were totally full.

We experenced beautiful hospitality and great food. This must be the best place in Banbury. The cook must have been a magician. Thank you!

My partner booked a room here a few days before our stay and we weren't disappointed. We got there in time for dinner which we weren't sure we would do. We were firstly welcomed and shown to our room which was lovely. Came down for dinner which was excellent. I had sea bass and he had a lamb pie. Both cooked so we'll and extremely tasty. Waitress was friendly but not in your face. It was so nice to have a lovely meal with drinks and be able to relax knowing we didn't have far to go afterwards. Would definitely go back if we find ourselves in that part of the country again

Great, great food. Outstanding. The waitress was friendly, easy going yet professional. The Landlord was really nice but hanging around me a little too long; pick up the signals and let me be!

My husband booked a surprise Mother's Day meal for the entire family. The food was amazing from the roasts to the desserts, toffee pudding was a real treat and we received good service. I had heard a lot about the Sunday roasts (they are to die for) from friends and family and the place was pretty full too. The Manager gave us a history of the place when my husband asked. We have booked a big table for next month as got my family around from Canada. We all went home happy.

I booked a table for 4.30pm for 5 adults and a five year old child for a family meal to celebrate Mothers Day. We ordered our meals as soon as we sat down at our table. At 5pm the childs meal and one of the adults meal was served. The waitress mentioned that they had had a bit of a disaster in the kitchen but didn't explain what. At 6 pm the remaining four adults still hadn't been served their meal. There were no explanations or apologies. At 6.15 pm, we decided to walk out, as we were all hungry and the child was getting tired and starting to cry. We all went home with no food. The staff saw us leave and still didn't offer any apology or explanation. This makes Faulty Towers seem like 5 star. I will never recommend this place to anyone. It must be under new management, as we have eaten there in the past and everything has been fine but I am disgusted and our Mothers Day celebration was copmpletely ruined. . .

We stayed here for a pit stop overnight when visiting family in a nearby village and this place didn't disappoint. We received a very warm welcome from the landlord and landlady and check in was a breeze. They have a great selection of alcohol and it was really pleasing to see a village pub so busy. The building itself is stunning and much larger than I thought it would be with an extended restaurant and outdoor area with seating. The room had everything we needed for the night, including a bath and a shower and it overlooked the town square which was nice and quiet. The bed was very comfortable and we slept soundly. Our room was number 2. The breakfast menu has something for everyone with a selection of cooked and non cooked options and you can tell quality ingredients were used. It was a shame this was a flying visit as the the evening and Sunday lunch menu looked fantastic and we will be sure to try these on our next visit. Overall we felt very welcomed and the pub has a very homely feel to it, we will be sure to stay again next time we are passing.

We found this little gem whilst driving around our local villages looking for somewhere to have a Sunday Roast. We were not disappointed, good service, excellent food - one of the best roast beef dinners I have had out and lovely setting. We will be going back.
