Decent pub with good food and good service. Can’t complain at all £17 for Burger, Fries and Onion rings. Good seating available, was quiet when we went mid afternoon but was busy by the bar area.

I treated my daughter to a birthday lunch a year ago, very very nice. A year on and another birthday, this time we celebrated with a further extended family. What an absolute disappointment! Arrived at 6pm, a necessary to dine early due to young children. First of all the drinks order. No Shiraz or Cebrnet Sauv, settled for a Jack Dan and Coke. Then on ordering x 2 veg curries that were far from even acceptable to a ready meal at your local super market, we made it known to one of two young men waiters of our dissatisfaction, and to pass this message to the chef. The two young waiters were good for us, but having no come back from the chef, a potential message back via waiter, or perhaps the chef himself visit our table! A significant let down on having looked forward to a repeat visit. The bill came and we paid in full, not of the culture to walkout without settlement.....however! On our experience, a review necessary, hence we have taken the time to write, we won't be returning!!

We visited the Roebuck Inn last night (a Tuesday). It was very quiet in there and there appeared to be one couple eating while we were (we were a party of three). Whilst we were greeted by a lovely young female staff member who was very helpful and offered for me to sample two ciders I was unfamiliar with in order to select my drink, generally food service was slow. The menu was small and certainly not great for any vegetarians however sometimes to have a small menu cooked well is preferable to an extensive menu not cooked so well so we chose two tempura vegetables with sweet chilli dip from the menu to share for starters. For Mains, when it became apparent there was onion in the pasta sauce (to which my wife has an intolerance), the waitress offered for the chef to make a classic carbonara sauce instead that was not on the menu and also that the chef could make a peppercorn sauce to accompany the rib eye steak. Both offers were very helpful and accepted). All this seemed promising and although we waited a considerable time for the starters we enjoyed sharing them apart from the wilted salad underneath the tempura veg that had been salted and had to be left on the plates. When our main meals appeared the ‘classic carbonara’ was a huge plate of pasta with a few little pieces of pancetta visible. It was dry and there was no evidence of a ‘classic carbonara’ sauce or indeed a sauce of any kind.. My rib eye steak was tender and cooked as I’d requested but instead of the meat juices being added to the peppercorn sauce the plate was swimming in bloody meat juice spoiling the fries. The accompanying salad again had salt on it and was not pleasant to eat. Worst of all for me was the peppercorn sauce: it was inedible. It was so salty. The other members of my party tried it and were equally shocked. I had to send it back and some time later a remade sauce appeared but was so thin it didn’t coat the meat at all and wasn’t pleasant to eat. I believe water/perhaps some cream had been added to reduce the saltiness but it hadn’t been reduced. I’m not a chef but I’ve made peppercorn sauces many times and frankly it doesn’t take any time to make a flavourful peppercorn sauce to accompany a steak. The fish and chips chosen by our third party member as the vegetarian option was ok. Normally we would’ve had desert and more drinks but as 2 of the 3 main meals were so poor we felt too dejected and decided to leave. The whole evening was a great disappointment. Being on holiday we had looked forward to a treat. We left having spent £100 (the food, a slimline tonic, a 1/2 pint of cider and a pint of lager), feeling thoroughly dissatisfied and certainly could not recommend The Roebuck Inn for anything other than a drink. There are many other pubs that offer food in the area, indeed we’ve enjoyed several meals out this holiday. I’m sure there are many more pubs to discover in the future .

Should have read the recent reviews before booking… Our food took an hour to arrive (starters) and another hour for mains. No one acknowledged this or apologised. They had two other tables (four more people) to cater for so it was far from busy. The staff to customer ratio was definitely not unbalanced. We had to order drinks from the bar throughout the duration of the meal, and there was no allergy information featured on the menu, nor did anyone ask. We managed to find our own cutlery for our main course, as no one replenished after our starters. Unfortunately our 5 year old nephew who has a diary allergy was given dairy pasta and there was no communication to advise on this, the menu simply states ‘pasta of the day’. Most of the food was undercooked, the Caesar salad had one tiny bit of chicken and the lettuce wasn’t exactly fresh… We ordered three side dishes of fries and were given a huge bowl of chips for all of us to share (again without any acknowledgement from staff), they still charged us for three portions of fries. The vegetables on the roast dinners were almost raw, the only vegetarian option was a feta salad and there was no check ins from anyone to see how the food was, let alone an apology for the wait. Our condiments took another 15 minutes to arrive and no one came to ask how the food was. A simple check in and acknowledgment of the poor experience would have been better than nothing. It’s hard to put into words how disappointing the experience was but I wouldn’t recommend the Roebuck to anyone anymore. It used to be a fantastic pub with a friendly team. Such a shame.

Went back after a great meal 18mths ago, expected same but seemed like ownership had changed. Understaffed, veggie menu option not avalable, not told about specials, my meal of pork belly was awful. Raw parsnip, yorkshire pudding had not risen and was like a ball of plasticine, meat like an old leather boot, asked for apple sauce, but not available. Instead waitress offered mint sauce or horse radish. Asked for alternative music to horrible 1980s rock with AC/DC! told could not be changed. After main course we were completely ignored table not cleared. Left after half an hour to find a cafe. Never going back. AWFUL

Managed to book a table for 3 of us plus a dog an hour before on a Sunday which we thought was very lucky but the experience showed why. Arrived and no one behind the bar to greet for a good few minutes. When someone did appear told us to go around and then back to the bar area for dog-friendly seating. To begin with, service was quick with the drinks order taken quickly (no drinks menu available and only Becks Blue as non alcoholic beer) and then food was ordered when drinks were delivered (this probably helped). Had 3 roasts. Average to small portions but very nice food, especially the yorkshires although only 2 out of 3 had gravy in them. Plates were cleared and offered dessert menus but these didn't appear until another member of staff came to offer again. Then a 20+ minute wait to order these as all staff disappeared and a 20+ minute wait to get the desserts. Got them at least an hour after we had finished the mains. Thought it may be down to a big table arriving as it was set but they didn't appear the whole time we were there. We then paid (went and paid at the till instead of waiting ages again) and then when halfway across the car park were chased by a member of staff who had not served us or taken payment accusing us of doing a runner! We had a receipt so could confirm this but he was not apologetic and ruined the whole experience overall.

First time in the roebuck since change of ownership. We as family was looking forward to a roast here as it was somewhat of a regular occasion we went. Unfortunately it wasnt as great as we were expecting the kids meals were fine as the kids ate it all. Our roasts were less than satisfying. Portions were average but the meat wasnt edible as its was all belly fat and very chewy we both left this on the plate. Atmospere wasnt the greatest although wouldnt completely blame the pub as it was very quiet. As for the staff we only dealt with one lady who wasnt the most welcoming or cheerful. It was a bit of guess work regarding asking for the menus and ordering food. Disappointing unfortunately, deffinite room for improvement.

Went here on a Friday afternoon for lunch. The menu is varied with quite a few choices. It was quiet on the day we went. Food was good and service was ok.
