Good value pub in the Marylebone area. There's been a change of ownership, and you now get a welcoming service, and both cards and cash accepted. They occasionally have live jazz on a Friday evening; I hope that becomes established.

I had no issues with previous landlord but I know some did. the new landlord is welcoming as are staff and the decor is much more in keeping with Marylebone. choice of lager Amstel, bitters not great at moment but food, now tapas was great. well surpassed my expectation. one of my friends was gluten and dairy intolerant, they were helpful and food was enjoyed by all. try it while the tapas is here and we'll cokjed by the new manager.

We have been using this pub on our occasional trips to London from the Midlands for a few years now and it's remained great. It's a perfect place to spend an hour-or-so on the way to catch a train home from Marylebone Station, being just across the road from the station, about 250 metres away, in Endford St. Family run, the whole family are obliging and provide helpful and informed advice about the good selection of real ales available, and the wonderful tasty Thai food they offer - provided by a Thai couple who cook there. So glad they have weathered the Covid-19 storm and still provide the same great level of service.

Lots of rain in London as usual so I pop in to this pub to get out of the rain and have a nice pint. Minimum card spend is a 10er but stayed anyway and thought I could just stay for two. Settled down with my beer and the bar manager / landlord comes over and asks me to remove my leg from the seat. How strange? I was just resting a leg as it was a bit sore. I asked why this was an issue and the response ‘it is the appearance of it’ I could maybe understand if I was in a restaurant or perhaps I was wearing dirty overalls. But I work an office job and was wearing smart attire. Felt a bit embarrassed but mostly confused. Would have been a nice pub. A real shame people can’t just chill the f*** out.

Tried this place last night, and despite not knowing about the kitchen had a lovely Thai meal to boot. The pub is a typical boozer, pretty good range of interesting beers, it was a Monday so the pub was quite quiet and there were plenty of seats. Staff were pleasant, but lacked a zap of enthusiasm and welcome that would make it great! The food was really good, I couldn’t fault the dishes we had, a real treat hidden away in Marylebone.

While I enjoyed the food, the manager was extremely aggressive. When we were told that everyone having food MUST by a drink as it is two separate companies, I questioned it saying that a) it makes it complicated for the customer having to respond to the way the pub is set up when they should have a smooth customer experience and b) I don’t know any pub that forces every member of a group to buy a drink (when three out of four are) just to have the right to be there. She responded very aggressively as if she’s tired of telling customers how it works (if you had to respond to this feedback so many times perhaps it’s because something isn’t working?). Greeting customers with arbitrary consumption rules then getting angry when they question them is a guaranteed way to ensure they never return - I certainly won’t and will advise all my colleagues at a nearby huge corporate office to avoid as well.

The actual castle in Gloucestershire after which this pub is named is not a true castle at all, but rather a Tudor manor house. However, there is nothing fake about this pub, a wonderful find on a side street close to both Marylebone and Baker Street stations. It has a traditional feel with patterned carpet, glasses above the bar on a shelf patterned with wrought iron etc. However, you can watch sports here on a couple of TV screens (the Rugby World Cup meant the ubiquitous flags were on display) and there is a good range of whiskies and ales, Last Drop, Secret Sunrise and Squadron among the latter.

This is really a lovely place to visit. A nice quiet pub with a country feel and food beer. I didn't eat but the food looked and smelled lovely. HOWEVER, the staff were awful! I visited four times within a very short space of time. I don't think it unreasonable to redirect at least a smile and some sort of welcome, if only to acknowledge that I had seen fit to revisit the establishment. Instead there were sullen faces, almost sighing and tutting because I asked for crisps. It's always off-putting when the most prominent signs in any place are those telling you what you can't do. When I tried to pay for my drink and my food together, it couldn't be done because the food is a separate enterprise. Fair enough, but I could have been told a bit more courteously instead of the 'that's the way it is, take it or leave it' attitude. What a great shame. I'm staying around here for a few weeks. I would have put a lot of money over their bar but, no. A pub should provide a cheerful, welcoming environment. On my my four visits, I experienced neither welcome nor cheer. Avoid at all costs.

The landlord is extremely knowledgeable about his beer and his menu.I ordered Jungle Curry which was delicious, made from fresh ingredients in their kitchen, and with vermicelli rather than rice which it normally comes with. The selection of Thai food on the menu is excellent, and I intend to return to try some other dishes. We live in an era where in order to survive financially, traditional pubs have to serve decent grub, and the Thornbury Castle excels at both beer and grub.

Looking for somewhere to eat near Marylebone, we spotted what looked like a nice little pub sign, so decided to investigate. On entering, we realised the sign matched the pub rather nicely, and were greeted by several decent ales, and by a very friendly welcome. A long discussion on Wasps ensued, along with several discussions on beer. Which was excellent - several great, hoppy (but well-balanced) beers on, mostly from the Rebellion Brewery in Marlow. All of them great. Pub had music on - but not too loud, so you could easily talk, and exactly to my taste. So we thought we would eat, especially as food was pretty cheap. The Thai food was excellent, outstanding value, and of course nothing accompanies Thai food better than hoppy beer - a match made in heaven. So the quick pint turned into rather a few more, and a great meal. Everywhere we looked, people were smiling - rare enough in any pub these days, never mind in London. So great pub, we'll be back next time we're in town without doubt.

The bar staff have always been friendly and welcoming in the 3-4 times that I and a colleague have been there, and the beers are good. However after a kitchen refurbishment, the good ol' English pub grub that we used to go there for has now been discarded (along with the chef) in favour of a Thai menu. Not a good combination for beer or Guinness, IMHO.I can't comment on the quality of the food as we didn't sample it, the few times I've tried before it's always been too spicy for me, and I didn't see any distinction signs between the dishes so could even attempt to navigate the spice minefield here. So sadly we had to finish up our drinks and dine elsewhere that night. I'd still recommend it for drinks, the food is now one for your personal taste however.

We tend to try and go there at weekends when it's sunny, so we can sit out. However, the pub is often closed at weekends, and I think it is to do with football or rugger, and I think that the landlords have a place in Brighton that is good for them at weekends. Huzzah.
