A truly dreadful “salad” bowl that contained what appeared to be a whole tin of chickpeas, 12 French beans, 2 slivers of cucumber and a couple of bits of sun dried tomatoes. This was topped by a very small portion of dry chicken and a complete absence of any fresh salad vegetables. Definitely not recommended.

Well congratulations! It takes an enormous amount of training to produce such terrible service. Weeks of work to perfect that scowl. Months of effort to learn how to slam down a baguette at someone - and bonus points for not even bothering with a plate. And well done on offering lukewarm coffee. All in all you made it so very memorable - in the worst possible way.

Table nicely spaced and arranged in the garden but 1/2 were under deep water - could have been reorganised as rain was night before. Baguettes were fresh and filling good with good coffee,

Sat outside as inside was fully booked. Staff seemed overworked as only one member of staff during most of our visit. Order took a long while to arrive (20min) and then drinks forgotten, when they arrived (another 10mins) one drink was missing. Food itself was good but pricy for what it was and service a big let down.

Booked for three adults in advance and was given a nice table right opposite the marina. The restaurant was recommended by friends and it was definitely worth the wait. The menu is varied and reasonably priced. Service was good and attentive, when the food arrived it genuinely was beautifully prepared, piping hot and tasted incredible, it’s obvious a talented kitchen team work here. The washrooms were also super clean. I can’t find a single thing wrong with this wonderful place and very very highly recommended it. Thank you to the whole team, we’ll be back one day !

We visited for lunch this week, we arrived just after 2pm and waited around 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us at the please wait to be seated sign. There were lots of tables free however the server said they wouldn’t be able to seat a party of six so I suggested we be separated into 2 groups of 3 which they reluctantly agreed to. We ordered food and drinks and the food was lovely, however with the hot drinks they had run out of tea spoons! (I would have thought they would have got someone to wash some - but for the next 30 mins I watched people either using their knife or fork or being given desert spoons) This restaurant has so much potential to be excellent but it really needs to sort out its staffing and perhaps I would put a notice up advising customers that you can’t have just tea and cake until after 3pm as I witnessed a number of customers queue at the sign for a long time only to be turned away.

We booked in advance six cream tea’s . While in the IOW holidaying . The food was very good BUT ! the service in the restaurant was dreadful , the cream teas consisted of a basket of bread rolls and we each has a platter of a spoonful of coronation chicken, two match box size pieces of ham with a pickle on top . Our table was far to small for six ! so when the cakes arrived on 3 double cake stands these had to e left and a different table ! . 1. THIS ABOVE IS IN NO WAY A ENGLISH CREAM TEA 2. THE SERVICE WAS DREADFUL ,my daughter cleared the table ! and placed the 3 cake stands on the table but we had not any tea plates ,daughter went to ask for tea plates and the male waiter brought gray large dinner plated ! At the point l to,d him to take those plates away and bring tea plates , he returned with HOT PLATTER PLATES and only 5! . I went to complain and told the female manager just how appalling the service was and also explained after visiting the Royal Home of our Queen Victoria and Albert , the restaurant had let the members in the house down along with the catering staff as the food was very nice , served in a very strange manor all being it is advertised as a CREAM TEA , WITH UNTRAINED RUDE WAITING STAFF . VERY SAD TO END THE EXTREMELY INTERESTING AND BEAUTIFUL DAY AT SUCH A WONDERFUL HISTORICAL HOUSE . SHAME ON THOSE IN THE RESTAURANT!!! .

We visited the terrace restaurant at Osborne and after being turned away and having to book, which in fairness I understand as it was busy, we eventually sat down to a very nice meal. 2 sausage and mash, a falafel burger and a cheese plate. Service however was appalling. Completely inattentive, neglectful and rushed. We wanted dessert and more drinks but after having our meals delivered, didn’t interact with a staff member until I paid. We waited for 25-30 mins after completing our meals and several staff walked past carrying food and clearing tables but none came to us to check on our meals, clear our plates or ask if we wanted anything else and I frankly refused to put my hand in the air like a schoolchild asking to go to the toilet. There were more than enough staff to cope with the covers but there were two occasions during our wait whereby there were no staff in the dining room at all. The whole experience felt like a clear case of poor management taking advantage of having a captive audience. On the high street, this restaurant would not survive. Considering the price for sausage and mash, a veggie burger with wedges and a plate of cheese and bread I cannot overstate how disappointing the lack of service was.

I came to the Isle of Wight with my mother for a little get away and we were really looking forward to visiting Osbourne house and having an afternoon tea. The house itself was great but on arriving at this ‘restaurant’ we waited ages for a member of staff to come great us (you have to wait you can’t just walk in). Then when she did come over she was extremely moody and seemed as though we were wasting her time. Once I asked for an afternoon tea for two she got snappy and said that we couldn’t have one as we hadn’t pre-booked. I hadn’t know that you have to pre-book and they never mentioned it at the entrance either, she then followed up with “cream teas only or cake!”. I asked if they were doing the other food as there was a menu outside with other lunch options on it, she rolled her eyes and then seemingly begrudgingly sat us at a table. When she brought us over a menu the only options were a cream tea, a slice of Victoria sponge or a shortbread along with the drinks options. When I asked again about the lunch options she said they couldn’t do them but offered no reason as to why and just walked off. As we were hungry we both went for a cream tea but we were so disappointed. It was bad enough that we weren’t going to be able to have an afternoon tea but why have a lunch menu outside if you’re not willing to serve it??

Osborn House is a delight but DO NOT book afternoon tea at the Terrace Restaurant. We recently made this mistake and booked the Victoria Hall Afternoon Tea - it was appalling and we could not eat it. In Queens Victorias time, Osborne House was famous for its wonderful cakes and puddings. I think Queen Victoria would turn in her grave if she saw the unappetising offering in the Terrace Restaurant. Barely anything on menu. Daughter had Falafel burger with wedges, I had 2 sausages, wedges and gravy. Daughters burger bun was dry and about 3 days old. Her 4 wedges were greasy. My 2 sausages were ok but 4 wedges were greasy. Gravy very thin. I could have had truffle mash but the idea of truffle oil mixed with mash didn't appeal. I had Latte, daughter had tea. So barely any food and the cost was £25.40. If you go to Osborne house, go in the cafe. Much better. Avoid this restaurant. If you can call it that.

Service was inattentive, inconsistent and entirely lacking in common sense. Waited indefinitely to be seated until finally going and finding a table ourselves, which had not been cleared from the previous diners. A first person came to take our drinks order, but didn't take away the empty glasses. A second, different person brought the drinks and took our food order, but *still* didn't take away the empty glasses, despite now carrying an empty tray. My friend ended up taking them back to the kitchen herself. After a long delay (it wasn't busy!) a third, different person brought out three of the four meals we'd ordered - the fourth was nowhere to be seen, and worse, they'd not provided any cutlery. We asked for cutlery and our server said, "Oh - I'll ask my colleague to sort that out for you" and disappeared! As our food began to go cold, my friend went in search of knives and forks. Eventually a person number 4 appeared with the cutlery apologising for the delay, and brought out the fourth meal. The food itself? For the price we were paying - decidedly average. I had the sausage and mash: it was a small lump of mash, tiny jug of gravy and two sausages, with no greens. I was left hungry. Save yourself the frustration, money and time - and enjoy the nice setting with a picnic.

Looked forward to lunch at The Terrace Restaurant at Osborne House. What a let down. Food was consistently terrible. We each ordered a different dish and the burger bap, toast for the mackerel and the naan with the bhaji were all dry, stale and inedible. Lovely setting in beautiful grounds you would except the restaurant to be of a good standard. We arrived for lunch, after being ignored for 15 mins we asked for drinks and some menus, we had to ask one of the 4 members of staff chatting if they would take our order. This maybe a bit picky but the young man who took our order had filthy fingernails. The food was ok but over priced, the noise made by one member of staff stacking plates was unbelievable I’m not sure how he managed it. We had to ask for the plates to be cleared and to see a dessert menu and again for someone to take our order, it was taken by a member of staff who look as if she really did not like her job. I paid the bill and said there would be no tip as the service had been terrible and the reply was ‘fine’ I said I would be posting a review and the response was ‘fine’.

Visited the special Victoria birthday exhibition and decide to treat ourselves to lunch, big mistake. Had to wedge the table as it was not level- it must happen every day. Not impressed with the menu choice but chose Mackerel on a piece of toast with a pathetic few scraps of salad. The crusts were left- too tough to eat. We waited over half an hour for this, had some wine while we waited and decided to forgo dessert. we noticed several others around us had the same experience with the crusts being left on the plate; do kitchen managers not notice. With people queuing to pay and others waiting to come in, making a complaint we decided was not an option. Will not be going again until we find out from other Islanders if things improve.

We first arrived and there was a sign saying ‘please wait to be seated’. We stood for around 5 minutes and no one came to see us so we went in and asked if we sat down or would we be seated the lass rudely said ‘you get seated one minute!’ It took them a few minutes to find us a table but there was plenty of them, we were then told we could have this table in the window but we must be gone within the hour as they had a booking a 3pm which was fair enough I understand but then it took them 15 minutes to come take an order even though they new we just wanted a drink and then we were sat waiting for another 15 minutes waiting for 4 teas to arrive! We got fed up of waiting so got up and left before they arrived. If they’d had arrived but weren’t done for 3pm we would’ve sat there because we could’ve easily been out if they served us! I’d understand if the restaurant was busy but it wasn’t there was more staff than tables and nothing was getting achieved!! I work in a restaurant as a manager my self and would not tolerate this kind of service from my team!! We ate here on a Tuesday at lunchtime. We booked as previous reviewers said it could get busy and it was. The setting is lovely, a spacious pretty dining room with views out over the terrace of Osborne House. You can also eat outside. The service was very good, nice friendly staff, as was the food. The reason I haven’t given it five stars is because there are only 3items on the main menu, ( one veggie) plus soup and sandwiches, which doesn’t give you a large choice. There is a separate dessert menu. However the food was delicious. I would have liked linen napkins and flowers on the table for such a distinctive setting so maybe a thought for the future?

However the embargo on any visitors not wanting the expensive set lunch menu between 12 and 3pm and the consequent attitude of the manager who stood guard over the tables was disgraceful. We only had time for some cakes and tea after a day at Osborne House but they were wonderful. The restaurant was busy, but we found a table within a few minutes. The Victoria Sponge was perfectly made, if you have the time, stop and visit.

The food was ok but we didn't appreciate standing for at least five minutes while one waiter cleared and set a table, even though were tables already set. Just a basic lack of customer focus and no-one apparently in charge, just some very nice young people doing their best. Second rate which is not acceptable at an attraction off this calibre.

The elegant restaurant was pretty full when we ate as a group, yet service was slick and efficient. Our main of grilled chicken was just enough for lunch and the eaton mess to follow was delicious. There is a good range of soft drinks, beer and wine to complement the meal. Well worth spending an hour to enjoy a well-presented meal in elagant surroundings

My friend and I visited this restaurant when we were on a trip to the hose with National Coaches. This is a self service café and was very busy but the queue was quick to move. The standard of food was excellent/

Sit and admire the garden whilst being served coffee and cakes. This terrace is a sunken garden and a sun trap .Highly recommended as a pit stop on your tour of the grounds.

Osborne House is a marvellous place to visit and I am happy to recommend the whole experience to everybody. The Terrace Restaurant offers a lovely range of food, the service is first class and the prices are not too high all things considered. The traditional cream tea I sampled was very good, beautiful scones, tasty Tiptree Strawberry Jam and Roddas very best Cornish clotted cream - it was a delight.I also sampled a glass of Isle of Wight Rose wine which was surprisingly good and sent me off in search of a vineyard the next day.You must visit Osborne and the Terrace Restaurant compliments the visit very well.

This made a very pleasant end to the tour around Osborne House and gardens. The house and the gardens are magnificent but you might end up walking 2-3 miles, there are courtesy buses and it is uphill back from the beach. Service in the restaurant was very pleasant the decor could have been a little better, bare floorboards, no tablecloths, but the afternoon tea was very nice, lovely fresh sandwiches and cakes with scones with jam and clotted cream, also choice of teas and coffees which were refillable. This cost £32 for two which isn't bad, we paid £40 for two at Chatsworth House earlier this year. They will also serve sandwiches and some hot lunches but it did seem very busy at lunch time, we took our afternoon tea at 2.45pm and the inside restaurant was only half full. Very enjoyable and you can upgrade to Prosecco or Champagne if you wish.

This is the nicest of the restaurants on the grounds of Osborne House. Located in the Queen's former chapel, there is both inside and outside seating. The wait staff are attentive, the food was delicious. and the location is great to give you a place to take a break from sightseeing.

We were very happy to choose our lunch here whilst visiting Osborn House. The service was attentive and efficient. The food was well presented and well received. We particularly enjoyed the Mackerel and the girls were very content with their cheese sandwiches. A good example that cost and quality need not be linked as we have paid far more whilst visiting the Isle of Wight but not left with the same sense of satisfaction.

Lovely place to break up our day-long visit. Not cheap, but worth it. We were able to sit outside on the terrace and enjoy the views across the gardens.

Lucky enough to be invited to a wedding reception here, the quality of food and service was equally outstanding. The food tasted freshly prepared and all the guests were served in a prompt and timely fashion by the professional catering team. None of that dreadful waiting between course so often experienced at weddings.

We had a super Sunday lunch here after strolling through the botanical gardens. the chef Michael Jackson (yes, really!) cooked a delicious roast beef for my husband & did a special sea bass for me. Very attentive service from friendly staff & really good wine by the glass in pleasant surroundings, with the sun streaming into the restaurant.

Seating a little tattie but that is more than made up for by the friendly staff and good food (large portions.) We were made to feel very welcome unlike the other place across the road which I am not going to mention but the staff were very rude AND ignorant. Well done Daisy!

Despite all of the previous negative reviews we had a great time here. The staff were great, especially our server Alayna. She was efficient, kind and helpful. Our order was tasty, well cooked and arrived quickly. We had the fuit flavoured cider which arrived in bottles with chilled glasses, a nice touch. We would definately come again. many thanks to all of you.
