The crown is one of rydes older venues and is still going. In prime location in ryde. The center of excellence. Great service and food at reasonable prices. The rooms are dated. But cheap and on the heart. Good for beer, music, sports and many a good lock ins....

Rooms are small and simple, but clean and handy for the town. It’s noisy at the weekend so be prepared with earplugs. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The bar is lively & Aug Bank Holiday sees a great lineup of top northern soul djs Thursday through Sunday.

Just back from another weeks holiday in the crown where i must say i had the most pleasent stay. The staff behind the bar and also the owner of the hotel are so kind and welcoming. Would highly recommend this hotel where there are plenty of cafe's resteraunts within 5 minute walk and the beach is within 10 minutes there is also a superb bus service which services the full island with frequent buses running to all parts.

We always drop into The Crown when on a night out in Ryde. They have a good range of drinks, the prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly. It is a bit of a “rough” old pub but it has atmosphere and character!

We was staying in the hotel next door, and whn we asked for the closest availible bar, the staff member lent to one side and pointed! from door to door it took about 8 seconds! This has a old style atmosphere which is now a rarity in the pub trade! Cheap and friendly!

Myself, partner and daughter popped in for lunch. The food was fast and not too bad. Also reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the language and behaviour of the locals was intimidating and upsetting. We were there 12.30 on a Saturday afternoon and witnessed two couples walk in and walk out again. It's a real shame because it could be a lovely pub. I can't blame the staff because there is no way I would have wanted to challenge them about their behaviour. They were truly disgusting.

At first glance not the sort of place we normally go with Sky Sports and single middle aged beer drinkers at the bar. However, we had a lovely lunch which was incredibly good value in this centrally located pub. The service was good and responsive. My wife enjoyed the scampi and I had an excellent value ploughman's lunch. It is centrally located in St Thomas Square and we would happily go there again. Good for family groups.

We ate here last year on holiday and were very pleased to find helpful staff who went out out of their way to help us choose a suitable gluten free meal for my wife and son.Sadly when we returned this year with another family standards had dropped.Allergy advice was awkward and contradictory, choices limited and although we were initially told that the chips were cooked separately and gluten free, when they arrived at the table we were told they were cooked with other wheat coated curly fries and so no good for gluten intolerant/allergic people also the chicken breastfeeding served with them wasn't cooked properly, I took it back to get it sorted and was told "it's fine, the chicken is all precooked" eventually we got it replaced and the fries swapped for a jacket potatoe. My son and i had chicken burgers which arrived quickly and were OK but very dry, but the other family with us waited 45 minutes for their club sandwiches which was odd as the pub was empty.Generally speaking not a great pub, we would have been much better off at the Weatherspoons 200m down the road as it's much better value and a lot cleaner (visited that one last week for dinner)We won't be returning.

Two of us looking for a short, cheap break late in the year, got the ferry on Tesco clubcard vouchers and found a 'hotel' with a twin room booking of £80 for 3 nights. I have to say that this was way out of season (December) so should not be viewed as a typical review of the Crown. This is very much a pub first, boarding house second and eaterie third. During our stay we did not actually eat here because they tended to close far earlier than the advertised times due to lack of custom although we did enjoy a quiet early evening drink in the bar on several occasions. There is a good selection of ales and lagers and the bar staff are extremely friendly. On the downside, the room was a bit pokey, but the beds were really tough on someone who has physical disabilities. I'm used to a firm mattress but these mattresses would bounce you out of bed if you sat down too quickly. I didn't get a lot of sleep and rose each morning with back pains. One contributory factor was that most of the other residents were not actually holidaymakers but building site workers who would enjoy the bar rather loudly until the early hours of the morning then proceed to rise at 05:30 and slam every fire door (and there were a lot of them!) in the hallway as many times as they could before leaving at 06:00. It didn't seem to be malicious I just don't think it occurred to them that people might actually be sleeping (or trying to) at that time of the morning. After three nights I really appreciated my own bed but the price in comparison to the competitors was so much cheaper that we couldn't really complain and I had a fantastic whistle stop tour of IOW.

The barmaid was friendly and helpful but my meal was very disappointing. I ordered chicken and chips. All the chips for my family had black speck son that resembled pepper, but it wasn't pepper, just a mucky fat fryer. My chicken breast was disgusting! It looked like a leftover from the day before that had been thrown back in the fat fryer to warm up. It came complete with ribs and backbone and was quite repulsive. If I hadn't already paid for it I wouldn't have even got my purse out. This spoilt the last day of my holiday as I left hungry.

Had arranged to meet a friend at the cinema at 19:45 in Ryde, so decided to pop out early and grab a bite to eat before the film. We saw the pub meal deal offer poster outside the crown, and not wanting a big fussy meal decided to give it a go.We got to the crown about 19:05, found a table and menu and had placed our food order by 19:10 (thinking 35 mins would be enough time for them to cook, serve, and us to eat two burgers, how wrong we were).20 mins after ordering and having nearly finished our drinks we were wondering how much longer it could take, after 30 mins my husband asked how long it would be as we had plans, they said it was just being cooked... So we waited.... Finally our 2 burgers were served at 20:00... 50 minutes after ordering!!! We didn't have time to meet our friends and only just got to the cinema in time for the start of the film. So, to sum it up, The Crown is pretty drab inside, the tables weren't cleaned properly, the food was mediocre quality (yes it was cheap, but I still expect to enjoy my dinner even if it's on offer) and it took the best part of an hour to come to the table.I wouldn't go back or recommend it to anyone

Went into this restaurant whilst on holiday. It was very quiet, and probably in need of a little TLC but the food was hot, filling and good value for money. In fact we used a different venue the following day - a large pub/restaurant chain - and the atmosphere, food and staff were awful. We would not hesitate using The Crown again.

Popped in for a drink during a stay in Ryde. Everyone stares as we walked in the door - we weren't locals, and the clientele in here certainly weren't up for welcoming visitors! There was a very, very drunk couple singing songs from the jukebox very badly, much to the obvious annoyance of the poor staff that were working there. We didn't bother finishing our drinks - we left almost as quickly was we'd arrived. Avoid!!

Ate here on a day trip, beer was nice, food a bit of a let down. Some of my wifes scampi was not fully cooked, and my cheddar ploughmans consisted of a couple of nice big chunks of mature cheddar, quarter of a plate of shredded lettuce, one very small piece of crusty baguette (Which I thought was of the part cooked variety) and a quarter of a plate of Branston like pickle, which was far too much. My son had chicken with bacon, cheese and bbq sauce (not home made I think) which was ok (ish). I would not rush back there.

Walked up the very steep hill from the sea front and with todays heat couldn't walk another step we spotted the Crown with tables and chairs outside and decided to stop for a drink as there was a large umbrella offering shade if wanted. We ordered two coffees and then decided to give their all day breakfast a try when the bar lady pointed out that coffees were included in the breakfast price .15 mins later she returned with two oversized breakfasts including fresh toast .It was cooked to perfection eggs bacon tomatoes beans and hash brown plus a sausage .By the time we left the place was full with all the outside tables and chairs all taken including those inside where the front doors all opened giving everyone relief from the heat as they were offering two main courses for £9 pound you could see why it was busy. All in this is one we will return to during this 2 week holiday the staff were friendly the food was excellent and the outside area in this heat is a oasis .

Not stayed here but called for a coffee and sandwich, it looked a nice place to sit outside in the sun and enjoy a light lunch. My husband and I both ordered coffee and bacon melts. The coffee arrived and was ok but we waited for about another 20mins for the food. When it arrived it consisted of barely cooked bacon a cold bagette and grated cheese on top. We pointed out to the waiter that a melt should be grilled cheese, hence the melt and should be a hot sandwich. He took them away and came back five minutes later with the same sandwiches which had been microwaved. The same almost raw bacon, a puddle of cheese and a soggy bagette. My husband took them back into the hotel and complained, The manager said he did not appreciate his food being criticised and could not see anything wrong with it. Howeever the bar staff gave us our money back. Be warned, do not eat in this dump.

Inedible food, rude manager who refused to refund the cost of a meal that I couldn't eat. I'd ordered sausage and mash and the sausages weren't just over cooked, they were burnt black. I think they were left over from breakfast. I showed the waitress who agreed they were badly burnt but the manager refused to refund saying its company policy to not offer refunds. They offered me a coffee or a pudding, we hadn't enjoyed any of the other meals enough to want a pudding. They would not refund. In the end we got the price of a soft drink refunded. Manager is rude. We definitely don't recommend and wouldn't return..no wonder it was virtually empty on a half term Sunday lunch time. Only 3 other tables and they had not had their meals when we left
