Greeted by Jacob, we had arrived 30 mins early after a 50 mile drive having given extra time due to the bad weather. Anyhow it wasn’t a problem and we were given a booth table 3 adults and one dog. Drinks order taken which arrived promptly along with the bowl of water for the dog thanks Jacob always on the ball. Food orders taken by a lovely waitress missed her name, starters of chicken wings, and lamb kofta kebab absolutely delicious. For mains we had 2 chicken Sunday Roasts and a Pork Sunday Roast, very delicious, couple of things that could be improved not with the food but the way it’s presented, firstly all the vegetables in one bowl for 3 diners, would be far better with personal bowls with your veg especially when the bowl isn’t a sectioned bowl, and the gravy was already on the plate but no gravy for the fabulous Yorkshire pudding, a pot of gravy would make all the difference, 9/10 would have been 10/10 if the vegetables would have been presented better along with extra gravy. Thanks to all the lovely staff, everyone was smiling, polite and helpful.

Travelled across to watch the rugby at Wharfedale so this was ideal pit stop on the way home. Visually it looks like this has had a big investment as the adjoining accommodation looked modern, inside was smart and everything about the place was high end. Meal was fantastic, Yorkie dippers, Gammon and the Hotpot all highly recommended 😋 as was the beer. Service was good and prices reasonable. Would definitely return when in the area.

We went to the tempest for my partner's 50th birthday and had a group of 27 in the barn. Hadn't been before and booked from the reviews. The room was stunning and on the day the service was seamless. The staff were fantastic and so polite and helpful throughout. Would 100% recommend. Lovely venue and the food did not disappoint. Helped make the special occasion perfect and customer service second to none! Thank you so much!

We had an overnight stay with our dog. The room was lovely, spacious and clean. On booking in at reception I was given a treat box for our dog. And was also given a choice of nibbles to take to the room. The Sunday evening meal was lovely. And so was the breakfast. The staff were very polite and friendly.

Haven’t been in for a few years as we’d heard it had been taken over and standards had slipped, they certainly hadn’t slipped! It was a packed Thursday lunch, full of ladies due to attend a function however the friendly waitress found a table for us and our two dogs in the snug. I ordered fish cake starter with triple cooked chips as I didn’t want a main course and my husband ordered club sandwich and chips. There was way too much food and we could’ve happily shared the chips and still left some. You certainly don’t leave hungry. Only two negatives, I used to love the steak pudding but it’s no longer on the menu and secondly a hot fish cake on top of a piece of iceberg lettuce doesn’t work. There was no need for the lettuce as it was slimy due to the hot fish cake. The refurbishment is lovely without losing the character of the pub. We won’t leave it so long next time.

- Warm, comfortable and welcoming. It was stylishly refurbished in early 2023. - Excellent food. We had roast beef followed by salted caramel tart and sticky toffee pudding. - Sound value. Mains typically £18. Our bill came to £62. - Prompt service and friendly staff. - Bags of space. - Traditional ambience. So often I'm disappointed by pub food but not this time. All in all the perfect spot for lunch on a walk down from Penhaw Beacon. We were glad of the return leg to walk it off.

Cajun Spiced Tater Tots (GF) These reminded me of the 'hash browns' on the Devon breakfast served on a recent holiday. A very generous portion and I got the sense of 'tucking in'. I removed the slices of red chilli that were on top, but the dish did need something to pep it up. A little bit of pepper did the trick. Maybe some sweet chilli sauce as a dip on the side would be a nice touch. Pork Belly This was advertised to be served with black pudding bon bons, fondant potato, confit carrots, crackling and apple puree. I asked if the bon bons could be replaced with a couple of onion rings. Other than the layer of slimy fat I had to scrape off the top of the pork, I really enjoyed this meal. I did indeed get onion rings instead of the bon bons, and the surprise of deep fried kale was a lovely addition. Service was excellent. 4/5 -- it would have been 5 if I could have eaten the fat 😋

My family and I have been looking for somewhere local that does amazing food for a very long time. We had a meal at the Tempest this evening and I have to say that the food was amazing. I had the wild mushroom ravioli and it was one of the nicest meals I have ever eaten and I am very picky. My Mum who is also very picky had the pie and loved it and also tried my ravioli and say that she would be back just to have the ravioli. The pie was a full crust with loads of chips and veg and the meat was incredible. The burger was amazing and a very large plate which usually you get one or the other It was a 10/10 for me which for someone that is very very picky, I am going to be a regular!

Sunday lunchtime, ordered the roast beef with broccoli gratin. Arrived with 2 roast potatoes, 1 large carrot, 2 chunks of parsnip and a large (over cooked in my opinion) Yorkshire pudding. No broccoli gratin in sight. Was tasty enough but nothing special. Desserts were obviously not home made. A very expensive small slice of chocolate mousse tart type thing. Overall just ok.

We had pre booked a table as we were a party of 12 so we're sat in the 'snug' I'd not been since the Tempest had reopened, and was very impressed, it's lighter and brighter without losing its character. The food choices were extensive, we were spoilt for choice, but I had chicken supreme and it was delicious unfortunately I didn't have any room for dessert, but did have room for an Irish coffee also delicious. Staff were all very friendly and we didn't wait long for food, will be definitely be back soon.

Along with several of our close family and friends we stayed for 2 nights as we were attending our daughters wedding nearby. The reception team were fantastic by working with the housekeeping team to ensure guests arriving on the same day as the wedding could check in a little earlier so they were able to change into their wedding attire. The rooms were all spotless, and little touches like fresh milk and cakes given when you check in were much appreciated. Eight of us ate in the restaurant on night one and the food choice and quality was superb. Breakfast was also spot on with a good choice of cooked to order food and even though there were 16 of us all arriving for breakfast within minutes of each other the service was quick. We will definitely return as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

We visited last week, what a great surprise, not been for quite some time. The toilet facilities were so clean and smart ( it's important but seldom commented on !). The food was the VERY best we've had in a long time. I had fish pie, often a dodgy risk of odds and ends! Delicious doesn't come near, a delight. Served with huge array of vegetables broccoli, carrots, peas and beans, so tasty. Now the fish pie... full of salmon and haddock in a beautiful cheese sauce with creamy potatoes. I finished off the lot !! Husband had steak burger and chips, he was equally delighted. Meringue with ice cream and raspberries for dessert was mouthwatering. To summarise, Terrific.

Just been for a meal at tempest arms. The hotel is lovely but disappointed with the restaurant. The service and drinks were pretty good. I had the Japanese prawns for starter which were lovely, would highly recommend. Things that let the meal down: The french onion soup was tastleless. We wanted to order the ribs but they'd run out. Fair enough if this was a special, but a restaurant shouldn't be running out of normal options, so this was quite poor form on an organisation basis. I ended up having the bacon burger. The burger itself was ok. The bacon was pretty undercooked. Chips were ok, but were quite plain so needed sauce to eat. Unfortunately, the ketchup, which I believe essential to a meal such as burger and chips, was poor. Would recommend swapping out the cheap rubbish for heinz. My partner had the chicken, which was fine but only a small piece of chicken and lacking in flavour.

It was our first visit after the renovations. We were greeted at reception by very cheerful, friendly staff and offered freshly baked Eccles cakes to take to our room. The room was very cosy and the facilities were exceptional including a Nespresso coffee machine, complimentary water and biscuits, a mini fridge and safe amongst other things. The mattress, duvet and pillows were exceptionally comfortable. The evening staff were very attentive and the food was to die for. Following a great night’s sleep the service and food at breakfast was of the same quality. Despite us paying a little more than we are used to it was an amazing experience from start to finish and definitely value for money. We will be returning in the not too distant future.

This place used to be something of an aspirational, Gastropub, never the finest of fine dining pubs, but nonetheless, somewhere that you could rely on for something a little bit more upscale than pub grub, and in a cosy, inviting environment to go along with it. Usually with well prepared, nicely cooked dishes and an interesting menu. Today it has a completely different feel it’s had a considerable makeover which I have to say it would be hard to criticise the whole place looks a good deal more serious; clean, tidy and well knitted together and you couldn’t really say that it has lost any of its cosiness While saying that, it now has a distinctly chain-pub feel about it (a la vintage Inns) and the scent of School dinners - perhaps the first clue this place had changed considerably since our last visit some years ago. Service was fine, certainly not over and above, quite a lot of youths learning their craft, some with quite a long way to go. Onto the food, which again, had nothing particularly wrong with it, and if I had chosen to eat at a frog and ferret or other, similarly named vintage inn, I wouldn’t have been remotely disappointed, but there again that wasn’t what I was expecting here! Gloopy gravy, bland boiled to death vegetables and pea and mint soup (in December…?) I’m quite shocked really that this place was happy to put this kind of food out. Hard to imagine myself coming back.

This was once THE place to eat in the area, not anymore. Myself and wife had the cheese and onion pie which was very nice, however the vegetables were very limited (half a carrot, a parsnip and 3 small spouts) and so overcooked they were almost a mush !! The cheese board which used to be fantastic was pathetic…. Don’t waste your money, 3 of the tiniest (thumb size) tasteless rubbish cheap cheeses with grapes that looked like they had been swept up from the floor. NOT value for money at all and will not be visiting again and will not recommend to anyone. Donut waste your money, far better places than this and better value for money.

Having waited with baited breath for a much anticipated reopening following a long refurbishment, we diner mid-week. The pub was spotless and the staff warn and engaging. The food however was a real let down. The crab starter lacked any kind of flavour and was...

Well-known over the years to us and our friends, the pub lies roughly equidistant between them and us. We knew it had been closed for a while but had forgotten. Hence our delight in finding the improvements, first to the carpark, then the entrance and...

Good solid English cuisine. The food was tasty. The service was very good from a mature lady and a Turkish gentleman. However, I was served food with gluten, despite informing the waiting staff. Luckily I asked to check with the kitchen. This really shouldn't happen,...

Stayed at The Lister Arms for a couple of nights mid week. We stayed in the Lister Barn which is a 2 minute walk from the actual pub. Cosy and warm, tastefully decorated with lovely toiletries - a real gem of a place. The main pub is really cosy, with a gorgeous fire burning all day and evening. Breakfast and dinner here were both really good with large portions. Lots of dogs inside the bar area too which was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely return.

Fantastic place. Roll with bacon and sausage was lovely. Really good quality ingredients and perfectly cooked. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. I've been coming here on caving trips for 25 years and always either start or finish the day in Inglesport. Love it. The only thing I'd say... bring back the pints of tea!!! And please don't ever stop doing the tiffin, it is the best on the planet.

On arrival the pub does not inspire confidence in the quality of food - but it was really very good. I was dubious about the sizes of sunday roasts after reading a previous review - and to be fair, the plates do not arrive loaded with masses of veg or mash. However, we all left feeling satisfied and it really felt like well prepared, high quality food. The steak and ale pie, and steak and ale yorkie had the same filling, which was superb.
