Terrible. Went with family, sand in my mother's prawns, they let others skip the queue. Never go here if you want to visit Scotland, try any of the other businesses. They gossip.

We experienced this unique café on a tour. This restaurant was super busy at the time and unfortunately due to the weather. The outside seating was not available, but we were able to be seated at the bar quickly and was even offered a table afterwards. We shared Haddock and chips along Cullen Skink and sampled tipsy cappuccinos with a dram of drambuie. All are highly recommended. We also tried to varieties of shortbread, which were absolutely scrumptious. Definitely worthy of a return trip.

What a gem! Breakfast specials are great - and great coffee to get you revved up for the day. But the real win for this place is the staff - friendly, welcoming and really engaged with customers. We popped in for dinner (as well as a couple of breakfasts) after a day trip to Rum. The restaurant should have shut, but the manager kept the place open because nowhere else in Mallaig was open for hot food (not even the chippy!!). That's a level of consideration that you rarely see these days. Well done to all - and thank you for the warm welcome for us and our puppies (who were made welcome inside and on the sunny terrace).

Fish was good, but was charged £8.45 for a kids toasties, then 50p to toast the bread then £2.45 for cheese making it the most expensive toasties I've ever had. The ham inside was not edible and when I asked the server was told that toasties are all one size even though I had previously asked for a kids portion. I am Scottish and fear this place is not being fair in its pricing as its one of tourists coming in.

Came for lunch before our ferry to Skye. We had the kipper and the pint of prawns which were both delicious. A good selection of local beers too although not on the actual menu so you will need to ask. We ordered a hot chocolate which was okay and a gaelic coffee which was absolutely horrible. It was like it was made by someone who had never had one. Just tasted like instant coffee with a tot of whiskey in it.Topped off with a little bit of cream. Would have complained but Nobody bothered to come and ask how it was. I couldn't be bothered to bring up the issue when I paid certainly will not be coming back. Left a horrible taste in my mouth in more ways than one. Also only one gent toilets with not even a basic engaged sign which caused a little bit of embarrassment

Please ignore any reviews from clueless tourists that turned up in last years peak busy season and expected budget prices anywhere in the remote Scottish Highlands, and instant service. Fabulous ham hock and lentil soup today. Bruinoise veg all the right size, and that doesn't take 2 minutes to do. Nice small pieces of ham, lovely flavour. Superb bread. I'm a chef - I'd have been well well pleased had I made this. Shrimp baked potato. Fresh, large and great. Heard the waitress - 'sorry we only have two fish left.' Guess they don't use FAS (frozen at sea) then, and the people eating the last two pieces sounded delighted with their F&C and I heard a 'best we've had up here this week.' Carrot cake - also fabulous. Coffee - could have been a little larger. Chips - maybe another 45 seconds cooking time. Salt & pepper shakers - it's quiet March - no excuse for not wiping down the outsides. And that's as critical as I can get. Glad we found them, and will totally go in again next time we drive down there for the afternoon. All these summer season whiners should have gone to the Co-Op over the road and got a sandwich, and complained to Tripadvisor there were 40 people waiting to pay and that took forever instead.

We went for "tea"in the British sense, a main meal in the late afternoon. The cafe was busy inside, no-one sitting outside in the cool breeze. We ordered Cullen Skink - an old favorite which I have honed to perfection myself - and fish and chips, to share. The chips were exquisite - done to perfection, with a gentle crisp outer covering a soft delicate inside. Possibly the best I have ever experienced, though that may be luck on the day. The fish was properly cooked, a crisp batter, not overdone. The Cullen Skink was well flavoured, and creamy, potato texture spot-on. So full marks to Tea Garden Cafe, an excellent stop on a March day. Nice girls serving as well.

My mother and I had a bite to eat here. Both opted for the Cullen Skink soup and then shared a carrot cake. The items we had were lovely, soup was nice and hot, carrot cake moist. We saw other items being delivered to tables and they looked good too. The food is in my opinion quite expensive here but there was no where else open to compare to. Like most tourist spots the venue simply has a captive audience. I’ve seen some of the feedback on this forum but have to say our experience was fine. Friendly staff and what we ate, although a tad pricey, was nice.

Visited here on a beautiful sunny day and had a lovely lunch outside with our wee dog. Service was fantastic and very fast considering they were very busy. Waitresses were very efficient at serving and greeting customers so really impressed. The reason I’ve given 4, not 5 star is the prices. It’s pretty expensive for what you get. Don’t get me wrong the food and drink is lovely but for for example a average slice of cheesecake was almost £7.00 with no extras, fish and chips was almost £14.00. We found this pretty overpriced but may be comparable to other places in Mallaig but not sure.

We recently visited Mallaig and enjoyed our first meal here so much we went back again twice. The location is great, right in the centre of town overlooking the harbour, and close to parking/ferry/train station. Head in early if you are going for lunch, as this place is popular with the steam train passengers who come for lunch around 12.15 and fills up quickly, even in October. Service is good, quick and unobtrusive.Lots of choice for lunch, with additional specials on the board each day. We had the ham and lentil soup and the prawn rolls, both excellent. Great coffee and cakes too!We stopped by for breakfast one day, it was much quieter until around 10 when it filled up again pretty quickly. Situated in the centre of this not so picturesque harbour town. The tea garden offers some very fine lunch choices. We shared excellent Coronation Chicken and Egg Mayo sandwiches with salad garnish and copious amounts of tea. A lovely terrace table allowed us to watch the world go by as we ate in this very busy town. It was an unusually beautiful weather day for so late in the season. Mallaig has a nice enough harbour but is too industrial to be pretty which is a shame considering the beauty of the area which surrounds it. Worth a few hours including a lunch visit to this excellent cafe.

Came to visit the cafe today after walking around Mallaig. Sat down and began giving our order to the waitress only to then be informed after we had told the waitress our full order that we weren’t allowed to sit in and just have coffee and cake, we would have to order something off the lunch menu to be able to dine in. We were not informed of this prior to sitting down. We also didn’t understand the reason for this - is it just to encourage us to spend more money? With the weather being a bit rubbish today, we decided to order hot teas to go so we sat waiting at the table for our these to be made. We were then asked by another waitress, if we were eating in and after informing her we were waiting on the teas we had ordered, we were then abruptly asked by her to move from the table to let other customers sit down. Not only that, given the current COVID-19 pandemic, there seemed to be no appropriate system in place for manning the doors and/or a suitable in-out system despite having what appears to be two entrances to the cafe. Not a welcome visit to our relaxing short trip away today.

Delicious traditional food. Excellent cake and coffee. We visited Mallaig by train on a very wet day. We walked into the cafe with its roaring open fires, friendly atmosphere and delicious food. Well worth a visit.

We drove to Mallaig on a freezing cold April day. After a quick look around the town we decided to have an early lunch at The Tea Garden Cafe. The cafe was already busy well before lunch time. Most of us had seafood dishes, which were all really good. We all enjoyed our food and drinks. Even though the cafe was busy, they did not try to get us to leave.A good place for food and drink when you are in Mallaig.

Very quiet in Mallaig on a Monday with most places closed. The tea garden was open so we popped in for lunch. Pleasant place, good service and good food. The Cullen Skink was particularly good, but needs a sandwich with it to fill you up. We enjoyed crab sandwiches with a mix of white and brown meat, with hot drinks. A slice of cake to finish, made a great lunch.

Good place to kill the time waiting for the train. Good interior and various food/drink. However, the price was too expensive for that kind of food and nothing very special about the taste.

Went in to this place asked if we could have a coffee , staff said yes , then when they realised we only wanted a coffeee and snack said we should leave , only wanted to serve big lunches even though the place wasn’t busy. We left feeling very embarrassed. Would not recommend. Awful never again

So for a great cup of tea this is the place before hopping on the train back to Fort William. They have a variety of teas, and things to eat. Would be lovely on a sunny day sitting out in their court yard.

Friendly enough place but the Coffee and Walnut cake was dry and crusty ... not what I expected .... if this place had some more competition it wouldn’t be winning

Went in for a quick bite before the Jacobite train was leaving back to Fort William again. Even though the restaurant was packed, service was very fast. We both ordered the fish & chips which was of great quality and reasonably priced. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Perfect for a quick bite or coffee.

I had lunch with my daughter, son in law and grandchild. My daughter and I had soup and bread but it took about 25 minutes. They were busy but my son in laws sandwich never came. We finished our meal and went up to tell them to forget the sandwich but they quickly brought it out. We were packing up. I asked to speak with the manager Fraser and he said sorry we still had to pay for it. He was rude and short with me. Another lady said that it was sitting in the kitchen and they didn’t know whose it was. She said sorry but we still had to pay for it. They didn’t care. I have never written a bad recommendation line this but the service was terrible and they were so rude. Don’t go

Agréable bar restaurant qui sert aussi petits déjeuners et patisseries. Nous y avons pris à quatre un bon petit déjeuner où tout était très bon. Service rapide, quelque peu négligent mais bon enfant et aimable.

After arriving at Mallaig by ScotRail on lunch time we were keen for a bite to eat. Just near the station we were lucky to find this great little place. It was very busy yet the staff were friendly and polite and helped us find a table. There was only a large six seater free and they asked as we were a two, would we mind if they placed another couple on the table if needed - it was no issue at all for us.

The Tea Garden Cafe is virtually the first eatery you come to on alighting the train. It serves good soup (lentil and ham & Cullen skink) and delicious bread. But the good food is undercut by the notices (Tables shared in busy times) and 'Don't eat your own food' and 'Pay when ordering'; the latter not enforced) that projected a somewhat customer-unfriendly vibe. This unpleasantness was reinforced when the waitress (otherwise friendly) tried to serve us bottled water when we asked for tap water and then tried to charge us for bottled water anyway. So, attempted rip-off v good soup = average.

Deshalb volle Punktzahl.

Stopped in Mallaig as the end of the line for the Jacobite Express (Harry Potter Train) and waited an hour before the return trip to Fort William. Found the Tea Garden Cafe and was pleasantly surprised at both the broad menu and the very pleasant service despite the fact that when the train arrives the town is innundated with tourists all seeking a place for lunch. The staff handled this with professionalism and aplomb. Our meals, tea and coffee were served quickly for mass produced meals and we even had time for a chat with the staff. Highly recommended.

I went in to enquire if they had gluten free fish and chips. The guy in charge, clearly hassled, told me in no uncertain way he was far too busy to fry fish especially for me. I’m an understanding person and if he had said something like “oh I’m sorry at any other time we could do that for you no problem but as you can see we are really busy today” I would have totally understood. So my friends and I took ourselves off to the Cabin next door where they provided us with pan fried fish and GF chips with a smile and friendly service

The Fish and Chip Shop is in our experience is without a doubt the BEST IN CAITHNESS AND SUTHERLAND! The fish was white and flakes. fried in beautiful crispy batter and the chips were perfect. We have experienced other Chip Shops in Wick,Thurso and Helmsdale, plus Mobile Chip Vans in Lybsterand Dunbeath and this has been the best so far too. We travelled around 30 miles to eat here and would do so again. THANK YOU.

After poor experiences in Oban and Fort William this place restored our faith in a Scottish breakfast and hospitality. Great service, even better breakfast made with quality ingredients.

Très agréable situation entre 2 ballades, service très prévenant. Des plats typiques, abordables. Le top après une journée de tourisme.
