At £16.06 for 2 drinks and 2 slices of cake, one of which was extremely small, we left feeling that we had been ripped off and resenting the 'optional' service charge which was clearly not optional as there was no opportunity to decline it. We are not sure how the total charged was arrived at as the actual cost of what was ordered was £14.30. Would not recommend.

We had a pleasant surprise on our walk to Bolton Abbey today as we noticed the Tea Cottage has new owners and has had a lovely refurbishment. We had stopped going there over the last six months as we felt the previous owners had let it slip and it had gone downhill. This is definitely not the case now. It is very welcoming, the staff are friendly and enthusiastic, the tempting cakes are, freshly baked. (the scones are to die for) and there is a varied lunch menu. Prices are reasonable and the coffee is good too . Everywhere is clean and fresh and the lovely open fire is an added bonus on a cold , frosty day. Of course the seating outside has the best views on the estate but it was lovely to sit in on a cold day. We will definitely be visiting again soon. I wish the new owners the best of luck in their new venture.

I was renovating my cottage in early 2015 when I first came across Abbey Tea Rooms. Located less than two miles away from what was to eventually become my home and place of work it was a wonderful place to discover as the staff are friendly and the food is alway delicious. The renovation and conversion of Oakfield Cottage took so long that Abbey Tea rooms effectively became my home away from home when it cam to eating freshly cooked food, hot sandwiches and delicious Coffee Lattes. Having eaten there many times both on my own and with family and friends when the time came to organise a Christmas dinner for our small company we all voted to go to Abbey Tearooms, and they didn't disappoint us. We had booked a table for 1pm, and we arrived promptly and our table was already set, and all the food that had been freshly prepared, was piping hot and waiting for us as arranged. There were 8 of us in total, and we had booked a full three course Dinner which was a starter of soup and fresh baked bread rolls, followed by the main course of Turkey with stuffing vegetables roast potatoes, gravy sauces and much more. Finally we had our deserts, and mine was a piping hot serving of xmas pudding with white sauce. Our waitress could not have been more friendly or obliging, all our food was served perfectly and we all had a wonderful dinner. For anyone driving there a nice car park behind the restaurant and thats very convenient. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Abbey Tearoom and if there were six stars I'd have given 6 stars for the food, service and atmosphere.

A quaint little tea room... But a little disappointing in the standards ... I have been to better. Service was a bit slow. The staff were friendly but just seemed a little inexperienced and kept bringing the wrong food to the wrong table. We had tea and scones all round .... Sorry the tea was very weak ... And the scones were a bit substandard in taste.... And complaints from those that had the clotted cream - that the portion size was small. So overall a very disappointing afternoon tea when all our expectations were very high.Tip: do sit outside - because if your food does not achieve the standard you expect the view more than makes up for it....

Our order was taken fairly promptly and we waited around 10 minutes to get our food. We ordered three teas, 2 fruit scones with jam and clotted cream and a fruit scone with butter and jam. I can honestly say they were the best scones that I have ever eaten. Clearly homemade, served with excellent quality jams etc. The tea was plentiful and tasted great. We have been here tens of times over many years and recommended to some friends as they do the best bacon and tomato sandwiches ever. My friends travelled over an hour to meet us there. We ordered our usual, explained to the waitress that although it was not on the menu we had had it many times before. We told her exactly what we usually have. What arrived was their BLT which is totally different to a hot bacon and tomato sandwich in white bread. We made the best of it not wanting to spoil the day but when confronted with the bill we again explained. Basically the young man on the till called us liars and said he was there all the time and had never seen us before. "Chef" also came out and said that he had never made any bacon sandwiches for anybody. I don't like being called a liar. For information purposes for this young man we were there a few weeks ago (about ten days before this incident). It was mid week and we were sat outside on the table next to the gentleman from "the house" who was with three other gentleman. I can provide further details of what they were wearing, eating etc. if required. We ate hot bacon and tomato sandwiches in white bread for which we paid £3.95 each. Approximately two weeks prior to that we were sat outside again, at the same table with my parents. We had hot bacon and tomato sandwiches for which we paid £3.95 each. As it so happens I have a photograph on my phone which I took on this day which could also be provided for further proof! The staff embarrassed us in front of our friends and the other customers and they were either mistaken at best or lying at worst. Whichever it was, their behaviour was unprofessional and unacceptable. We will never return to what was one of our regular haunts and despite having recommended to a number of people over the years we will never advise anybody to visit somewhere with staff that behave in this manner.

The waitress taking the order said that it wasn't on the menu, our friends said we know but every time we come that's what we have and its has never been a problem, she said she would ask, it was obviousthat she wasn't really interested. When the sandwiches arrived they brought BLT, one friend refused it and said it was not what was ordered, the other said she would eat it. The sandwich came back and was on a white teacake instead of bread, but he is diabetic and had done his insulin injection so he eat it. My other friend said her bacon was so hard she couldn't chew it. The waitress came, it was reiterated that the order had been wrong, she didn't really care. Our friends wanted to sit outside so we went to pay and my friend complained again and especially when they tried to charge £6.95 for a bacon and tomato sandwich, the lad on the checkout said what you ordered isn't on the menu so you got what you asked for, my friend explained that they came quite frequent and that's what they had, the lad then said that he had never seen any of us before. This was an insult to my friend and he said I don't appreciate being called a liar, I came 2 weeks ago and had that, he said I never saw you, I commented that his attitude was deplorable as was his customer service skills, a man whom I don't know who he was came out of the kitchen in a chefs outfit and said "what" the complaint was reiterated we received a reluctant sorry. Will NEVER go back again and will NOT recommend to anyone. Rude staff and obviously not bothered about customer service.

We had planned our day out to Bolton Abbey and I must say the Abbey and surrounding grounds are simply stunning, worth a look. But stopped at the Cottage on the way back for lunch. Loving looking old style cottage, but looks can certainly be deceiving, it wasn't busy so we were given a table straight away and I ordered tea and sausage and mash. I was rather disappointed with my meal, the mash was very bland and my sausage was far too over done, it was a real shame. I also found it very expensive for what it was. Shame really. Wouldn't return.

Visited Bolton Abbey for the first time in many years and chose this venue for lunch based on plentiful seating outside as we were accompanied by Oscar the Bedlington Terrier. Choices included soup, sandwiches and approx. 6 main meals to chose from. We chose the Cumberland sausage meal with mash and spinach whilst my mother chose chicken, potatoes and veg.The food quality was excellent and whilst the tea for one was £1.75 with the additional pot of hot water it made at least 3 cups of tea and milk was plentiful. Service was prompt and courteous and I would definitely return on my next visit to Bolton Abbey.

Stayed at The Lister Arms for a couple of nights mid week. We stayed in the Lister Barn which is a 2 minute walk from the actual pub. Cosy and warm, tastefully decorated with lovely toiletries - a real gem of a place. The main pub is really cosy, with a gorgeous fire burning all day and evening. Breakfast and dinner here were both really good with large portions. Lots of dogs inside the bar area too which was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely return.

After driving around the Yorkshire Dale's, we were in need of a drink and snack. We came across this lovely little tearoom and we weren't disappointed, quirky and quaint I would say, very friendly, great value for money too.

Fantastic place. Roll with bacon and sausage was lovely. Really good quality ingredients and perfectly cooked. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. I've been coming here on caving trips for 25 years and always either start or finish the day in Inglesport. Love it. The only thing I'd say... bring back the pints of tea!!! And please don't ever stop doing the tiffin, it is the best on the planet.

On arrival the pub does not inspire confidence in the quality of food - but it was really very good. I was dubious about the sizes of sunday roasts after reading a previous review - and to be fair, the plates do not arrive loaded with masses of veg or mash. However, we all left feeling satisfied and it really felt like well prepared, high quality food. The steak and ale pie, and steak and ale yorkie had the same filling, which was superb.
