My friend and I had been looking forward to meeting for a cream tea for ages due to lockdown. So disappointed! Very cheap jam with no fruit bits and runny cream that was only just thicker than milk and impossible to keep on a scone. When I mentioned this to the gentleman serving he laughed and said oh yea it’s meant to be thick, but there was no offer to rectify the situation. In leaving, instead of being offered a small discount in compensation for a substandard meal, we were overcharged by £2:00 which then placed us in a further embarrassing position of having to ask for money back. We did receive an apology for being overcharged however it had added to the poor experience. How hard can a cream tea be?! Good quality Scones and Jam plus Clotted cream and a nice pot of tea- simple!

Called in for lunch and what a find. Lovely setting next to the Minster. On arrival, please sanitise hands and check in on Track and Trace.Ordered bagettes x 3 and 1 Jacket potato, pots of tea and coffees. All served promptly in beautiful china. Then had cakes x 4. Food was tasty and waitress wouldnt serve cheesecake as she felt it wasnt up to standard. Very observant member of staff.Bit pricey but was worth the extra cash as felt completely Covid safe.Would return for sure.

This place has amazing potential but the deco and menu are stuck in the 1990s. The teenage staff were very pleasant but appeared to have been left to run the place with no training or instructions. Nothing for vegans - not even plant milk. The non vegans in the party didn't eat either as menu was uninspiring and cakes looked stale. A real pity as the location is amazing. It's for sale so hopefully someone with passion will buy it and turn it around

We should have known we were in for a bad experience when the waitress who greeted us was wearing a leg brace and was using a crutch. We ordered two cream teas which we assumed consisted of a scone, jam, cream and a pot of tea each. What arrive was a flat square overly sweet scone ( we use the word scone loosely), packet jam and watery cream which was supposed to be whipped cream. How the waitress did't scald us carrying the hot drinks and using a crutch is a miracle ( a health and safety risk). My wife used the toilets facilities and she said the door did not close properly or lock. Then the icing on the cake when leaving was we were charged £17.50 . The cream teas were £5.90 each so the tea is obviously extra

I visited after looking round the Minster. I had tea and cream scone. It was very good and nicely served. The first room as you enter is wood panelled, further in is a bright elegant conservatory, and outside a lovely garden area. The toilet was clean and attractively furnished. A gentleman was serving and was very pleasant, with a lady in the kitchen preparing the food. Reading the experiences of some other reviewers I wonder if these are new owners, service was very good.

Having been to visit the Minster we called at this nearby cafe for a coffee - what a mistake. The service was awful - the young staff didn’t seem to be interested and appeared to lack training. If one of the young girls spent as much effort on customer service as her makeup things could have been better! The coffee was awful - 2 Americano’s were Luke warm and tasted awful. More like filter coffee that has been sitting around for ages. The ambiance of the place was pleasant although the chairs were very worn and the upside down cups already on the tables seemed strange. There was a for sale sign outside and we were left with the feeling that the current owners had lost interest. Can’t see it is worth the £500k they are asking for it!

Four of us entered what, on the face of it, is a charming little teashop. We sat ourselves at a table which had the plates and cups of the previous incumbents on it as no interest was shown in welcoming us by the solitary teenager who appeared to be busy. After a few minutes, the waitress deigned to offer three menus - for the four of us.Several minutes passed before she returned to take our orders. Soon after, she returned with the hot drinks. The half-hour wait was turning towards the three-quarter-hour mark before food appeared. My companions had ordered hot meals and I, a toasted teacake.Their food arrived, mine did not. "Oh, did you order a toasted teacake?" - 'Yes'. Off she scurried. The girl returned a few minutes later with a teacake which was slightly browned on both sides but, as it transpired, it was still frozen in the middle. My wife had the chicken and mushroom soup which she is certain was from a tin. At £6.20 per bowl - a pirate sized mark-up.My tea had long since gone cold and, exasperated at the poor service over a long period of time, we decided to cut our losses and leave. The impression we were left with was that the place is owned by an offshore tax exile who rarely visits and if he does, is not interested. The premises are charming and have potential, however, enthusiasm and imagination are required to profit from the environment - which, it is obvious, the owner lacks. The lack of leadership allowed the very young staff to run the place at a pace which suited them and not the paying customer. In discussion afterwards, the four of us concluded that The Tea Cosy, Beverley is a tourist trap designed to lure unsuspecting diners who, having been fleeced once, will never return. The lack of leadership allowed the very young staff to run the place at a pace which suited them and not the paying customer.

Went with family and ordered drinks and lunch. Soup tasted like tinned, toastie ok but crisps on the side were stale. Husband had cake which also tasted stale. Coffee was vile, tasted really salty. Told the owner who bought us more coffee, still tasted just as bad. To add insult to injury, although the coffee was not drunk, he still charged for it. I probably would have not bothered leaving a bad review but I'm afraid charging for those revolting coffees was the final straw!

The position, (just opposite Beverley minster), the size and layout of the building (looks like a former pub) and the clenliness of the kitchen and public areas are truly exceptional! (without any exaggeration). However, the staff appear to have the knowledge, interest and ability of a pair on a youth opportunitys scheme. They have hardly anything available food wise that appeals to the individual without any special dietry needs but if you're a vegan/vegetarian (I'm not) don't even bother! It's a real shame though because if somebody got hold of this place who had a little bit of a clue it would surely be packed to the rafters!

A quaint cafe close to the Minster with plenty of charm and ambience. However, when we asked about the availability of gluten free options, we were met with a roll of the eyes and off hand remark about not doing gluten free or vegetarian etc etc but as there was a naturally gluten free option on the menu (baked potato) we decided to stay. The food was well presented but average in quality and quite pricey for what it was. The service, however, could definitely have been better.

This is a nice little tearoom which is a complete let down as absolutely zero effort goes into the food and drink. The cappacino is out of an instant coffee machine, not a proper expresso machine which for a place like this is a joke, someone on here has left a review saying best cappacino in Beverley, they either run the place or are deluded. We had sandwiches, the ham whilst thickly cut clearly came out of a tin not a deli, again a joke. The bread was slightly stale, the coleslaw accompaniment stayed home made on the menu, it wasn't, it was one of those creamy ones from a supermarket, an outright lie. We came away really disappointed as the place itself in the conservatory is nice, the fact that the food and drink is rubbish is echoed in the amount of customers, I wouldn't go back and clearly anyone who knows about food and drink wouldn't either. Enough said really.

The only slight disappointment for our first visit was that there was no afternoon tea on the menu but it was easy enough to make one up from the menu. The sandwiches were tasty and there was a good choice available. Baguettes, toasties, paninis and salads are all on offer in addition to a reasonable choice of main course dishes if preferred. We then enjoyed our cream scones with jam. We ordered tea served in large tea pots which was hot and refreshing. We were certainly made welcome and the service was very good, the prices reasonable too. I was surprised just how big the establishment was, with plenty of room both inside and out. Just metres from the town’s glorious Minster, The Tea Cosy is attractive outside and in. Eating in the garden is doubtless a delightful experience when it is warm and sunny. We chose to eat in the main room. As soon as you walk in you see modern leather-covered chairs and brightly-coloured Whittard cups and saucers on the tables. So far so good. There was a prompt and ‘friendly’ Yorkshire welcome, but a bit of a wait before our order was taken. The menu has a fair amount of choice, but contains a number of inexcusable spelling/printing errors. The lunches arrived within ten minutes. My Ploughman’s Salad looked like something you would expect from the school canteen: the Red Leicester and Cheddar cheeses were grated, Yes, GRATED! Silverskin onions, coleslaw, chutney of the Branson persuasion, cottage cheese, one hard-boiled egg cut in half, undressed cucumber, baby tomatoes, etc. No choice of bread, and since it wasn’t brown and crusty I left it. There were concessions to continental cuisine: pitted green olives and two slices of Brie! Unimaginative or what? My wife had a microwaved jacket potato with (not enough) cottage cheese, which she said tasted soapy.

Visited here on Saturday 4th November and it was very disappointing. My wife ordered a jacket potato with beans which had obviously been cooked in a microwave as it was hard and completely undercooked. I ordered the cream tea which again was very poor. When my wife complained to one of the 3 young waitresses (apparently no manager was in) and said she wasn’t paying for the jacket potato the girl just said ok with no apology whilst the other 2 looked in sheepishly from the kitchen door. I ordered a Cream Tea and my husband the Chicken Tikka salad. The Cream Tea came with squirty cream and two small plastic containers of jam - I was surprised as I would have expected real if not clotted cream and proper jam from a pot! My husband also felt the salad was not really a salad and had an array of additional extras and not really what he would have called a salad - the only salad ingredient was a bit of lettuce with some sweet chilli sauce and pickled onions on top neither of which he likes! The ladies toilet was also in an unfortunate place right near where people were eating - I wondered if I could be overheard while using it which was a bit embarrassing. Came across this cafe after visiting the Minster , it could be a little gold mine as it's in a good location , it's very clean but is run by really rude young waitressing staff with no manners what so ever that thinks it's funny to go back into the kitchen and make vomiting noises and take the mickey out of my partner for being polite . The owner wants to get a grip and get rid of these young girls and recruit new more mature respectable staff . The food was poor my partner picked a cheese and spring onion sandwich when it came it was a supermarket sandwich filler that was very poor quality . The tea was awful . I had the broccoli and Stilton soup which was fine at first but an hour later gave me terrible indigestion . I had a scone also and this was not homemade it was the type of poor quality scone you get in a supermarket that clagged to the roof of your mouth. I've read alot of reviews of the tea cosy and there seems to be lots of comments about rude staff poor quality service and food. If I was the manager I would want to surely change these negatives to positives and improve customers experiences . We will never ever return to this establishment

My friend and I had both visited this small café in the past. We were returning to the car parked for £1 for 3 hours at the new shopping centre from the library where we had just seen a magnificent exhibition and The Tea Cosy seemed an ideal place for lunch. The menu was reasonable for the lunch period including hot meals as well as soups, baked potatoes, sandwiches, paninis, salads and cakes!. I chose broccoli and stilton soup which at £4.95 I thought rather expensive. My friend chose a plain baked potato with coleslaw and a small salad and this was over £5. My friend enjoyed her potato meal. I had an issue with the soup which was not blended but this was rectified with a smile. The accompanying poppy seed bread was lovely. So far so good now the issues. The soup was not as described and was probably vegetable. Stilton is a particular flavour easily recognised and there was none in it. And prior to the blending I did not notice any broccoli. I was not too pleased but ate it. The portion was almost too large. The problem with the café came when we had eaten over half our meal. One of the staff came to a newly vacated table close by ours and started cleaning it with furniture polish which she sprayed excessively and we caught a taste of it. Not a great addition to a meal. When it came to paying I decided to say nothing but my friend asked why they considered they should clean tables with furniture polish whilst customers were eating closeby as it affected our enjoyment of our food as the spray floated towards our table. In most establishments one would hope the response would be oh I'm really sorry about that or something similar. That was not the reply we received which was That's what the manager wants us to do. Please be warned that tables are wiped in this establishment with furniture polish which may well upset your enjoyment of your meal as it did ours. I doubt I will return as there are many other options in Beverley

A lovely place with a very comfortable area to sit in at both the front and the back part where there is also a garden area. We had excellent cakes and drinks here.

This is a great place for a quick drink and snack after seeing the amazing minster. There is a lot of space, both inside the cafe then in a conservatory type area. There is also outdoor seating beyond that.Cakes were good. Coffee less so.I loitered for ages waiting to pay - a bunch of dippy waitresses didn't seem interested. For the first time in my life I debated walking out! I didn't of course and eventually someone came and said "did you have......?" "no" I said (although maybe I should just have paid for what they suggested! The owner needs to sack most of the staff and start again!

We'd been here before - in the Summer when we had enjoyed sitting having a coffee in the courtyard at the back. So, on a recent trip back to Beverley, we decided to call in again for lunch - this time inside rather than out.All started well - pleasant ambiance and an adequate menu. We ordered two teas and two toasties - cheese & pickle for me and cheese & tomato for my wife. The tea arrived quickly which was when we were reminded of something we had forgotten from our Summer visit which is that the teapots are terrible and dribble all over the place. Then, when pouring from the hot water jug, the lid fell off into my cup sending hot tea all over me and the table. Luckily, the waitress was quick on hand with serviettes to mop it up.Then the toasties arrived with cheese & ham in place of the cheese & tomato ordered. As my wife doesn't eat ham, I took that and she took the cheese and pickle I had ordered. But the pickle was disgusting!Overall a disappointing experience and the place really needs to do much better. We mentioned the collapsing lid to the man in there, suggesting that it needed to be thrown away, and he said it would be repaired in a few weeks during annual closing. We didn't really believe him when he said this. They really need to get better pots altogether and should definitely find a better pickle supplier.

We went around the Minster to see the trees and called back for a bite to eat. We walk in and the waitress came and asked would we like a menu! so far so good. When she came back my wife asked if she could have a gluten free sandwich, sorry, we don't have Gluten Free meals. My wife looked again at the menu and said" if I tell you what I want can you do it" can you do me a plain jacket potato with plain ham, salad with no dressing, yes came the reply!!!! I just had a Normal Panini. We waited for ages, obviously microwaving the potato. It came and was very nice. She never came back to ask if it was ok or to ask if we wanted anything else. We wanted a drink but we waited for ages. We eventually decided to go home and have one there. So if you just want the run of the mill with NO ALLERGIES then fine and also have time to wait. If they did Gluten Free cakes we would have had a piece and a drink so they lost revenue. The poor waitress obviously did not know anything about the menu. A real shame, they have a good location for holiday makers. Will not go again

Having not visited this place (but passed it many times) for over 10 years I decided to pop in, with my wife, for tea and a snack last Saturday. The interior is indeed still cosy and nicely decorated, however the whole experience was sadly let down by the waiting staff - as another recent reviewer also reported. The young girls really didn't seem interested in serving or helping customers. We stood and waited to be seated and were told to find our own table - which we did. However, after 10 minutes at the table we'd not even been left a menu. We asked for a menu from a passing waitress who returned back with one. After another wait we really wanted to order but nobody came back to take our order. We watched the waiting staff who seemed to be busy doing nothing. In the end we got up and left. If only the staff could have been more polite and at least apologetic for the delay then we might have been more forgiving. There are plenty of other coffee houses in Beverley with better service so it will probably be another 10 years before we visit The Tea Cosy again.

We popped in here for a brew and a cake. The place looked lovely, very close to the Minster and full of lovely hanging baskets which were very colourful. We opted to sit out the back in the sunshine and it was lovely to be able to sit there and listen to the Minster bells . The two young waitresses did not really seem bothered where we sat or what we wanted. They really were uninterested - sad for a customer experience. One of us ordered the cream tea with whilst the other had a scone with butter. They did have cakes in a display cabinet but they looked mass produced and not really worth the calories! The scones were again not home made, large ish but quite chewy. They took a bit of getting through and chewing. The cream for the cream scone was awful aerosol cream that was fading fast even as it arrived, delivered by the not really bothered staff. There was no choice of jam, just some little peel off pots of red 'jam' it said strawberry on the label but it tasted nothing like a strawberry jam. Such a pity as the location is perfect but the service and the food was just truly dreadful Would not visit here again and would advise others to find somewhere better for food and service.

I was at The Tea Cosy on Saturday 9th July with my mum and a friend. We were there fairly early so the place was quiet. I had the delicious cream tea which was a scone, jam and cream and a pot of tea. The scone was warmed up and the butter just melted on it. The portions of jam and cream were very generous too. My mum enjoyed her toasted teacake and my friend loved her caramel apple pie. It was a very nice, clean place and the toilet was lovely and clean as well. Would recommend it for a visit.

Wife found chilli to be good, cheese broccoli bake was decent (good but not what I hoped for in a Yorkshire tea room, made fresh but basic cheese and they did not brown the top); home made deserts are also good but not outstanding as we'd hoped. Had the chocolate cake and lemon pie. I guess very few chocolate cakes compare to the cafe at Castle Howard. Recommend because decent and right near Minster and the bells ringing. Nice people here.

Popped in for coffee and cake and found the place to be charming. In particular the blend of coffee was terrific; velvety smooth and tasty too. Our party had a selection of cakes; each one was appreciated - my caramel and apple pie was fantastic and I had a taste of the New York style cheesecake too which was also lovely.I'm usually a creature of habit and head to the nearest coffee chain when in an unfamiliar location but I'm so glad on this occasion to give an Independent a go - well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Myself and the wife called here after visiting the Minster. It was clean and the furniture and decor attractive and comfortable. We had a pot of tea for two and some slices of cake, the tea being refreshing and the cake scrumptious. So no complaints there. However, though the staff ( all young women ) seemed friendly and welcoming they did seem a little inattentive, in that I had to be pro active for want of a better phrase, in gaining their attention to pay the bill. Having said that would call again, as I think if they just made a little more effort on the customer service side of things this could be a gold mine and a " must visit "cafe.

We visited Beverley for the first time since moving to the area. What a beautiful place. We will go back again and again. I can't say the same for The Tea Cosy. It was recommended by a volunteer at the Minster. It's a lovely location and nice inside. The staff were all young and not really at the top of their game. The staff were rather inattentive. We had coffee and a panini. It was very average. The side salad was nice, as was the coleslaw. With so many places to choose, I think it will not be on our one to re-visit list. Shame.

Met friends here for a lite lunch and despite previous reviews read on Tripadvisor we were very pleased with our experience. It is an old building and the tea room gives the impression of going back in time. Old beams, tables laid out with attractive mismatched yet oddly matching shining china and cutlery. On the service counter delicious hard to resist cakes - some catering for gluten intolerant. Prices were reasonable and the menu catered for every taste, Service from the proprietor was good and he was a very pleasant host making us feel most welcome and the overall effect was of a very clean well run café... If visiting Beverley and especially the Minster then I can certainly recommend this lovely "olde worlde" tea room.

We are always wary of shops/cafes etc. that are close to a major attraction – expecting high prices, poor value, and a rushed experience. This simply wasn’t the case in this case.We had a good look at the outside and it easily passed this scrutiny. We had a good look at the menus posted on the outside – clear and simple, and offering plenty of popular choices, and at competitive prices. We choose the meat pie, jacket potato, and garden peas plus a glass of apple juice. The apple juice was okay, likewise the meat pie, the jacket potato was good, and the highlight was the peas! We liked the gravy bowl option. We resisted the temptation to try the cakes, but if cake and coffee is your thing then you may find it more difficult. The service was fine – minimalist but effective, the seating comfortable, and it was a pleasant experience.

4 of us came here for a light snack and a drink while we were in Beverley shopping. It started promisingly enough when the drinks came, the coffee was reasonably good and we didn't have to wait too long. Unfortunately it was all downhill from here. We asked what the soup of the day was and it was chicken and mushroom. We all decided top choose the soup as it was a light option and should be relatively quick to eat. However half an hour later we were still waiting, when the soup finally arrived it was clearly Heinz chicken and mushroom straight from a can, which is not what you expect after half an hours wait and at £5.00 per bowl. Nobody bothered to ask if our meal was OK so upon leaving I told the young staff member that this was completely abysmal. Her response was to apologise, and to tell me "the owners daughter made it" which was an outright lie and an insult to my intelligence. The few tiny mushrooms there were were uniform in size and processed, as was the tiny amount of processed chicken. This was not homemade by anyone! They didn't even have the decency to take any money off the bill for this totally sub-standard "food" and service so I advise people to avoid these scam artists like the plague!!

This visit, myself and two friends had been for a long walk in the cold, high winds & rain and sat down in the warm and it was suggested we share a pot of hot chocolate, which was reasonably priced and just what we wanted. Being close to the Minster and very few people about, we chose the Tea Cosy as it looked perfect. We were the only customers and and were warmly welcomed. We chose the cream tea but it was disappointing. The scone, though large, had obviously been heated in the microwave; the strawberry jam was in the little peel-it-yourself pots and was virtually red flavoured jelly but the worst part was the cream. It had to have been from a whipped cream gun. It may have been whipping cream and not the ghastly aerosol stuff, but it is the only time we have had cream pour off the scone! In the summer there must be hundreds of tourists in Beverley and competition for their custom must be tough but I think the Tea Cosy would go to the top of the list if they served a real cream tea with real jam and clotted or thick, proper whipped cream.

We have visited this restaurant a few times but when we went there on Friday 29th January 2016 we were not impressed. The food was quite good, the waitress was very good & tried to make us very welcome. However the owner was as miserable as sin. He came to clear away the dishes from some other people who had left, & must have gone out of his way to avoid eye contact with any of us. When we were leaving, there was not even a glance away from his friend who he was talking to. We could see him clearly through the arch but he could not be bothered to acknowledge my wave goodbye even though he was facing us. Basil Faulty's younger brother is running a restaurant called the Tea Cosy in Beverley. We will not be making a nuisance of ourselves by being customers at this place again.

We visited this place for lunch over the Christmas holidays. We ordered pie and mash, which was lovely, a ploughmans, which was fine, and a toasted ham and tomato toasted sandwich, which turned up as a cheese and tomato toastie but was soon corrected. Its a shame that the ham is plastic ham from the local supermarket, instead of some nice homecooked local ham, which should be easy to source. It was a bit odd them dressing the salads with a sweet chilli dressing, as some many people dislike or are allergic to chillis. The place itself is neat and clean, and I am a fan off the pottery. However the service sucks. The waitresses were lacklustre and miserable looking, and trying to get their attention to make another order or get our bill was almost impossible. the manager ended up cleaning tables in a restaurant that was not full or busy by any means. Might be worth some retraining to be honest. If you have visited the Minster and are looking for a cuppa then give this place a try. Just don't be in a hurry.

Walking to the minster we saw an A board advertising the café and went in as it had a garden. The place is totally charming - the main seating area has a feeling of genteel elegance but with a contemporary feel, the conservatory is lovely and the garden area, with six tables for two, is pleasant and feels miles away from the bustle and bustle of the centre of town. We ordered a pot of tea from a young lady who appeared to be eligible for a refund from her charm school. A comment made to her about the sunshine was met with a twitch of her mouth, and when she brought the tea again there were no pleasantries. The place was very quiet but there were serviettes under one of the tables that should have been picked up, and paper floating in the small water feature which made it looked uncared for. The tea was fine, and having looked at a menu there was a good selection of sandwiches and hot food at reasonable prices. In a tourist area a little charm goes a long way - they need to up their act.

It also seemed odd that a tearoom should have just one Darjeeling tea bag in stock! However, the sandwiches were very good, the service of the exclusively junior staff who attended in procession for every service was charming, and sitting out on a sunny afternoon in sight of one of England's best small cathedrals made it worthwhile.

Staff and Manager had no knowledge of food allergies or recent legislation. The waitress was polite but said "we dont know anything about that" the Manager gave a Basil Fawlty type attack saying we cant possibly know about all allergies, we just buy stuff in and put it out - we dont know what Gluton Free is, you will just have to have a potatoe or bread. When I said "sorry I cant eat bread" he said I must have a potatoe. On enquiring whether the mayonnaise had Gluton in it, we were treated to a further Basil type explosion, a shrug, and "we dont know". We should have left, but we were on a sentimental trip re-visiting special places from my daughter and granddaughters past. Place still very attractive, food and drinks very poor. From the outside this cafe offers so much and my expectations were high. It used to be a house in the past and then converted into a cafe. There was no greeting on entry so we just sat ourselves down in the conservatory area. It was busy but not so busy that the staff wouldn't be able to cope in my opinion. From the conservatory we had a lovely view of the Minster and there was a lovely but cosy seating area outside.Someone came and brought our menus which did have a couple of spelling errors on. Tuna 'chucks' interesting. When I asked for a peppermint tea they had run out, I then go brought out a scrap piece of paper stating which herbal teas they had. In the end I asked for a green tea which they brought out with milk, maybe some people have green tea with milk but very unusual. I did think that with the age of the building and the position of it, the cafe would have more of an identity. It was too modern, I truly think there would have been more atmosphere if there was a bit more of a vintage feel. Metal teapots with a lovely blue tea cup, it just felt confusing.I had a chicken tikka panini which was lovely and my friends had cheese and ham ones which again were nice. I did think that coronation chicken would be on offer but it wasn't.I used the ladies where there was no toilet paper, I had to try and find someone to get some. They did it straight away but the attention to detail just seemed to be missing.Overall, I wouldn't rush to go back here. There was nothing wrong with the place but I would have preferred to go somewhere more in keeping with the surrounding areas and with more atmosphere. I think they should go back to the drawing board and decide on the identity they want as a cafe because the outside does not match the inside at all.

First impressions of the cafe were very good but the menus we were presented with were filthy. We ordered a cream tea, an Americano and a toasted teacake. The toasted teacake was not fresh and was at-best okay and the wrapped butter pats were past their best. The coffee was actually poor filter coffee rather than an Americano. This WAS replaced with a fresh-ground Americano without quibbles. The replacement was still very weak and only okay. The cream-tea... for somewhere that clearly works hard on its image and is in such a classic location it was very very disappointing. The scone seemed a dry, bought-in effort rather than fresh and the cream was squirty-cream from a can. A rip-off at the price. The teapot was stained and the plate had a large crack/chip in one corner. The cafe itself is beautifully decorated and the staff were pleasant and friendly. Sadly that's not enough to make us want to ever go back.
