The Tavern at Telscombe in Lewes

We were doing works in the area outside the pub (not for the pub), whilst it was a wet day the lovely owners offered us hot drinks. Safe to say this is the least I can do. Thank you!!!

Stopped over night in our camper, great place.

The pub was packed due to BHA football on the TV. This added to a good atmosphere the food was nice and service good just one little niggle that the table needed a good wipe it was very sticky (one of my pet hates) but apart from that all was good. And you're dog friendly, so thanks for that.

My wife sadly passed away at the age of 35 so had a wake this week here, like her Dad and Nan did. Food was spot on and at a good price and the pub was good for all ages.....this is a very good venue for a wake and thanks to the staff for making it perfect. Will be in again as a customer when passing. Thanks Mark 😊 ..

Nice food need to look at portion sizes I had curry wife had vegetarian sausage and mash I thought they were kids meals could of ate mine twice never warranted 13. 50 each

If You want to go out for a meal with friends then give The Tavern a visit plenty of tables available inside or outside, it can get busy at times but you can nominally get a tables so check it out for yourself. Disabled friendly and wheelchair accessible plus plenty of parking spaces.

Just visited the Tavern after a break of about 3 years as was told they do home cooked Sunday roasts ? My wife had the lamb and I had pork . Wasn’t too bad apart from the pork chop I was served which was so thick it was a bit hard and difficult to cut etc . Spoke to one of the staff who said they only do home cooked - So we ordered 2 deserts one sticky toffee and a jam roll poly - but unfortunately these were not home cooked and the custard wasn’t made with milk ! Disappointing as the main meal apart from the pork chop was okay . ? Might go back another time but not for pudding ? Roast was reasonable for £10 !

We had an amazing Sunday Lunch at a very reasonable price, roast beef with all the trimmings, delicious. My daughter had the veggie roast and said it was really good. The staff were efficient and friendly. Would definitely go again.

There were 20 of us went for a Sunday meal. Meals hot and on time. Meat tender. Would recommend.

I chose The Tavern for my brothers Wake. I must say the service, staff, food was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. I’ve since been in a few times for their Sunday roast. What a bargain, my friends have all commented what great value for money it was and how delicious it was too. Would highly recommend the place

Ordered the tavern burger, its very big and quite expensive, but unfortunately they follow the trend of making burgers taller instead of wider, making it difficult to eat. It did take a long time to arrive, but was told the patty is made fresh. I think it was just ok for the money, the patty itself lacked flavour,.would suggest a few spices in the meat and also additional flame grilling. The bread was average also.

Staying at the nearby campsite we took a wander down to watch the early Saturday football match on the TV and then wander to Telscombe Cliffs. Barman was very welcoming. The pub itself is really nice, clean and tidy throughout. We could have easily stayed there all day. Didn't eat, but the menu looked good value. Will return.

I've not eaten yet. So, I can't judge how good the food is. I've so far waited over an hour for a meal. No starters , not busy. 2 meals have come out that ordered after me. No one else is eating. It's not a good impression 😏 Just got our knives and fork after an hour, still no food. Just to add, the food arrived after the hour, and it was great. All 4 meals were good.

Arrived parked and sat in the top bear garden overlooking the cliffs and Brighton in the distance. Lovely views… My wife and I had some lovely food - Mexican Burger & Lamb Shank and a couple of drinks. The burger was one of the best burgers I have eaten. Staff were very helpful and allowed us to stay overnight in our camper in their carpark.

Lovely staff and Sarah is most welcoming. We stayed in her car park overnight in our campervan when we were getting the ferry the next day. This is our 2nd year we have done this. Thank you very much. John and Kate

We were a party of 10 that went on a Saturday evening and the food was amazing. We had a lot of different dishes but every one was cooked to perfection and there was plenty on the plate. The guy (owner?) behind the bar was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be going there again.

We went to the tavern yesterday for a family dinner that wasn’t booked in advance and even though there was 8 of us we were welcomed by Sarah the manager who was so welcoming and friendly and went out of her way to accommodate our every need she took the time to come and introduce herself to each of our family members even though the pub was busy from observing she was the same with joy just us but everyone that entered the pub she creates a warm welcoming atmosphere at the tavern and is a complete asset to the pub .The new menu was amazing as was the food with lots of great options for vegetarians too .we will definitely be back for more .every pub needs a Sarah behind the bar .well done 5 stars from us ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We wanted a special celebration for our Dad's 75th Birthday, as Mum & Dad live in Telescombe and Dad suffered a stroke a year or so ago, The Tavern was the ideal venue. What can I say, the moment we entered the establishment we were greeted by Sarah behind the bar who made us very welcome, it was smiles all the way from then on. We also met Faye who was equally lovely and greeted us with enthusiasm. We dined at 7pm and the food was excellent, beautifully served by the attentive staff. Dad remarked the following day how he had enjoyed the evening and we called in the following night just to say 'Thank you' We always speak as we find, and we can honestly say this was such a memorable evening, Thank you to all the staff for making us welcome, and particularly Sarah........5 GOLD STARS

The Tavern accepted a booking for 35 people at very short notice. The staff catered for us as best they could. The lunch menu was limited, but we enjoyed our Sunday roast. We received a good plateful that was well cooked and very tasty. The staff were rushed off their feet, but coped very well and were very polite. This pub allows dogs inside, so we were able to take our collie in with us. We will visit The Tavern again.

Pub accommodated a group of 35 of us at only a few hours notice. Service was prompt and efficient and the food hot abd tasty.

Booked only the night before for a party of 30 . Excellent food , Grant who served us was friendly and accommodating. Service good. Highly recommend this pub , We will certainly go there again.

Had an amazing roast beef dinner yesterday. The beef was amazing just fell apart, roast potatoes was cooked perfectly and plenty of vegetables. Great value for money. £13 pound for a roast and a pudding. Staff was very friendly and polite. Very lovely atmosphere. I would highly recommend the Tavern to anyone. 🙂

A great find, very friendly staff and locals, great food and drinks at a reasonable price. Lots of vegetarian/ vegan dishes. Free to park camper vans / motor homes and stay overnight if you use the pub.

Back open, under new management, had a really nice BBQ burger and chips, recommended, give um a go and free car park what more do you want, oh yeah really nice cold beer too.....enjoy, cos I did

Popped into the tavern last night great band playing got the crowd jumping . Sarah behind the bar was very friendly made sure everyone enjoyed themselves and seemed to be in a dozen places at the same time great night

Unfortunately! The review regards Fish and Chips is not correct. Worst fish and chips EVER! FISH WAS MUSH. Not fresh at all, chips rubbish not hot, peas cold. Did not complain, as was in motorhome parked for night. Left all the rubbish food and went to chip shop up the road. Gordon Ramsay would have had a lot to say about the food. However the bar staff were excellent. Shame. And yes to the owner, I should have sent food back. But the owner must have known how bad was in the first place????

Event on and only 1 bar staff on. Waited to long to be served. Felt sorry for the young lady serving. Got on bus had nice few in Rottingdean which I'll do more now.

Everything and more that you could want from a pub. Sport, wide selection of drinks, pool&darts and the food is great! I came here with family and all of our needs were met. A very special mention to Sarah who brightened up a rainy day with 5* service going above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and catered to! Needless to say, we will continue to come here and would definitely recommend it!😄

Popped into this pub for the first time, great welcoming atmosphere. Very nice pool table, loved the roast dinner. Thanks to Sarah behind the bar who couldn't have been more accommodating and to Ryan the head chef who came out and said hi and asked how our meal was. What a wonderful experience finding The Tavern was. We arrived late after a really rough ferry journey from Dieppe into Newhaven. It was blowing a gale and driving rain, our first long journey in our motorhome from Spain. We were exhausted and bedraggled. Meeting Rebecca as we stepped inside was like being wrapped in a warm, cosy blanket. The locals made us feel really welcome too (including a fellow Spurs fan, Yay!) We were too late for food but were assured we were welcome to order a takeaway to eat in the pub. The first delicious pint of Harveys Best Bitter slipped down a treat and our frozen bodies gradually thawed in the warmth and friendliness surrounding us. Rebecca explained that the current team had taken over not so long ago and were trying really hard to bring the pub back up to exemplary standard. I'd certainly state they are achieving their goals. The Sunday roasts sounded so delicious and I really wanted to stay around to sample and will do so soon. The pub is extremely dog friendly, in fact our dogs got their water before we had our drinks, and a wee treat too! 🤣👍❤ 🐕🐕 The Tavern also has great offers for kiddies dining too and the kitchen is open from 5 - 9pm. Also special deals throughout the week (check out their Facebook page). With sports tv and a pool table (did I also see a dart board? Not sure, I was very tired ) the ability to order in from several takeaways if the kitchen has closed and the overall convivial atmosphere, for me, makes The Tavern a place I will definitely be returning to. Friendly family run pub, great freshly cooked food at sensible prices with friendly efficient staff. What's not to like!

Stopped for lunch today, four of us and the food was very good, roasts and Mediterranean tart. Only problem was that as the pub was almost empty the bar was unattended for long periods of time, I was waiting to be served for longer than expected twice, presumably as there is not enough trade to have more than one person behind the bar. Someone came out from the kitchen, saw me waiting and disappeared back into the kitchen! Perhaps a bell is needed for situations like this.

The burgers are good, the meat is fresh... £12 per burger. I took sausage/mash, not bad £12 per dish. It's a very simple pub inside but 30 meters away there is a great view of the coast. Meal with drink £55

Proper, good value Sunday lunch. Nicely cooked veg and plenty of it, huge bit of tasty pork loin, topped with a scrummy Yorkie and lashings of gravy. If you use the car park, don't forget to register your vehicle at the bar!

Sunny day, walking past thought I'd have a beer outside. Never been in before. Entered and the place fell silent, approximately 20 locals stopped their conversations to look me up down. Made my way to the bar and ordered a Kronenberg as chatter started up again. The barmaid begins pouring my beer. A gentleman of approximately 50ish years of age then throws a bar stall at me shouts that I should "Have myself a party why don't I!?" Before storming out of the place. Definitely a local pub for local people.

Really delicious food. We had between the 3 of us: v good mushroom risotto, American burger, salt and pepper potato's and chicken tapas and a nice side salad - all excellent, would recommend. It's a friendly, comfortable pub, quite simply presented, not particularly glam or modern. Lovely clifftop views from the pub garden. Friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of parking (remember to enter your license plate on the machine at the bar to avoid a fine by whoever manages the carpark) Will definitely go again, maybe on a sunny day and sit on the clifftop.

Parked in the car park and gave my car registration to the bar staff to avoid a car parking ticket whilst having a business lunch and guess what? Yep I ended up with a car parking fine of £60 after spending over £30 in their premises, strange that, I wouldn’t recommend because clearly the bar staff didn’t bother registering my car registration, fuming 😡

Nice place, Unfortunately got a parking ticket!!!! I was at a wake of my neighbour and bar staff should have asked me for car reg, hopefully it is being sorted out now . Parking restrictions have only been in place a few weeks, so be aware!!!!!

Went for Steak special day recently with my kids and was not nice at all sadly ! Very chewy tough to cut meat ,chips with an “old oil” fatty taste and greasy eggs .not pleasant at all and we left most of it uneaten ....

Great pub nice beers an fruit ciders, was in on a Sunday space at a premium, get your table and stick with it.

Only one person taking food orders and working bar Saturday lunchtime. Ordered starters and main courses. Starters came out 20 minutes later in dribs and drabs, tables that had ordered after us got their starters before we did, one main arrived with starters, others arrived separately over the next 15-20 minutes. Very slow service. Mediocre food. I ordered the bread and various oils for my starter. Bread okay but the oils consisted of what tasted like cheap cooking olive oil, luminous orange chilli oil and okay balsamic vinegar, served in little paper cups like those you'd get your sauces in at McDonald's. Lasagne and Hunter's Chicken mains seemed to me like they'd been microwaved and finished off under a grill. Greasy chips and onion rings. Best part of the meal was the ice cream sundae deserts. Wouldn't eat here again or recommend the place to anyone else! The owner responded to this review with comments about staffing problems, but no mention of the food quality or why it was so poor.

Great meal -steak was perfect -meat pie lovely -pastry light -plenty of well cooked veg-tasty gravy -the steak as said was just med rare which to get in pubs/restaurants these days is unusual we were really pleased -thank you xx

Popped by for a quick meal in our lunch break. The food was delivered quickly, and was very tasty! A nice selection of £6 dinner deals on a Monday, fantastic value without comprising on the portion sizes. Free wi-fi was also available. Would definitely recommend.

Quick stopover on our way home. Very friendly and welcoming. We stayed on a Monday so were able to indulge in their £6 meals. Very nice, home made cheeseburger with lots of chips. Lovely beef lasagne, salad, garlic bread. All really nice and brilliant value....
