As we were staying at the Lickpenny lane caravan site and were joined by friends we booked for Sunday lunch, we had our son's dog so we needed somewhere dog friendly. the Tavern was the place we chose the table service was prompt, the staff friendly, the food was both plentiful and well cooked this is somewhere we would definitely return to.

We enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of this place. The large map of the area on the wall (walpaper) was interesting and a good a talking point. The menu was not extensive but there was something to suit most peoples tastes. They also have a decent selection of beers and spirits to chose from.

We called in here twice to get food and each time the food Service had ended. As we were hungry we had to leave both times. The staff were very nice though and on both occasions were able to recommend another place where nice food was available, so thank you for that. Shame we didn't get to eat or drink there

We came without a reservation due to not being able to find parking in Matlock Bath for a Saturday dinner and the server accomodated us by putting us in the quiet room at the back. The food was lush, steak cooked exactly how you'd request it, chips were perfect. A lovely, welcoming and cosy spot with lovely staff. Would 100% come again. Sincerely, the carnivores

What a gem of a pub /restaurant!!!. wonderful and friendly service and the food was delicious. I had the fish pie and my husband had the beef stew.. The Tavern is a delightful spot for a family meal, specialising in delicious pies. The warm, welcoming atmosphere and genuinely friendly staff make you feel right at home. The Summer is drawing in but we were lucky to squeeze the last drop out of it and sit in the outside Garden and Terrace. The pies are the highlight for me, and they don’t disappoint. My second time visiting and each was baked to perfection with flaky crusts and rich fillings. The Home cooked chips were the ones like my Grandma use to make. In short, The tavern offers great food and outstanding service in a cozy setting. Perfectly situated out of Matlock away from the hustle and bustle. Ample free parking. It’s a perfect choice for a memorable family evening. Highly recommend! I'll be back thank you the Kitchen Staff and servers.

Lovely pub and some good beer. Food was delicious, it’s just a shame that the portions were quite small. Had the risotto which was scrumptious but we didn’t feel there was enough food there for the price of it. We were still hungry after eating it.

Visited the Tavern last week on my bike. Unfortunately the nav on my bike had unscrewed itself en route and I desperately needed an Allen key to tighten it. Had a great chicken pie, chips and peas plus a decent pint for lunch and then after lunch the guy behind the bar searched out some Allen keys and the bike was sorted. What fantastic service from great staff at a great pub. Thanks guys, I’ll be back 👍

Lovely place. A couple of miles outside of Matlock. Room was nicely quaint. Food was perhaps the only average, while locally made pies are great, the variety of food ordered and the speed at which the food came as well as to the other guest demonstrates a likelihood of pre- preparation and microwave action.

Stayed here for one night as a couple. Had the Derwent room which was basic but had everything you would need. The best touch was the continental breakfast which originally wasn't offered when we booked up. Positive side, room was lovely and clean and the staff were exceptional and made you feel really welcome. On a negative note, could do with a divan bed with a good quality mattress as the wooden frame took up too much room and the existing mattress was too soft and a little uncomfortable. Would definitely recommend this place for a night or two as it is set in a lovely location and plenty of car parking. Didn't try the food as we had already eaten prior to checking in. Thanks for everything.

Apparently it had been a very busy day for the staff and the Sunday roast dinners were all sold out. Fair enough so we ordered off the usual menu. One meal was a Masala curry. When it arrived it was pretty well all tinned tomato and didn't taste at all like curry, more like ratatouille. Sent it back as being inedible and nothing like as described. Waitress gave one of the best excuses I've heard which left us quite bemused, "Sorry. The chef finished at 5 o clock" (about 30 mins earlier). So who was preparing food in the kitchen we wondered......? I'd ordered side dishes of onion rings and garlic bread. Onion rings were very nice but garlic bread consisted of 2 pieces of over cooked french stick with no discernable taste of garlic. Total waste of money but hey, chef wasn't there so no point complaining was there. Fair enough, they'd been busy all day and chef had already gone home but, if you're going to keep serving meals that you know won't be up to usual standard, they should be discounted accordingly or.......... dare I suggest, simply stop serving when chef leaves. Had to ask for bill three times. Obviously caught them on a bad day but don't think we'll be back.

Booked for Sunday roast for daughter’s birthday, which we specified when booking. When arrived was told the Roasts were out and that they had tried to contact us ahead to say but no email or call received. Decided unlikely to find anywhere else at short notice on a bank holiday weekend so ordered the meat pies and seasonal veg (just peas) thought they were coming with creamed mash potatoes but arrived with chips (not asked by waiter when ordered if would like one or other) Husband ordered lamb minted pie but then came back to say that was also not available. Then when they did arrive very disappointingly the pastry was uncooked and you would need eye of a hawk to find the meat! So all in all hugely disappointing meal. One positive note, great that you allow dogs 🐶

Very nice cosy pub, went for dinner, and I must say it was so refreshing to be actually served at your table, instead off having to go to the bar to order food and drinks, and try to remember what everyone wants, like many pubs these days, and they even noticed when our drinks were getting low and asked us if we needed a top up, again where many pubs/restaurants you have to ask. Food was very good and fresh, they let us change few items around which was no hassle for them, very good value for money and no frozen chips, proper chips for once, which these days is so rare, it doesn't take to much effort to do proper chips but for some reason most places do McDonald type fries, yuk, or similar. Staff very friendly, can definitely recommend and we will be going again in the very near future. Well Done to the Tavern.

It's a nice pub that's very dog friendly, they even bring your dog a blanket with it being stone floors. The service was very good, with the staff being friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the food was disappointing, the pie wasn't very good, looking at previous pictures they have changed supplier, my steak and mushroom pie had undercooked pastry and overcooked filling. The chips however were nice. It could have just been an off day or a bad batch of pies. The fish and chips someone else had looked very nice, so it would be a good pub for someone with a dog but I wouldn't recommend the pies. There is also plenty of free parking in their carpark.

We came to the fishpond as we do frequently Usually we’re so happy with the service and atmosphere along with the quality of the food We placed our order at the bar Waitresses were chatting away not fully listening We ordered the bbq pork belly and satay Asian rice bowl off the mains menu However when the meal came we received the char Sui belly pork starter instead of the main meal We stayed the order had come incorrect The waitress came across very sharp and snappy she offered no apology We offered to pay the difference as mistakes happen despite the attitude of the rude server Waitress accepted payment and placed the correct order then came back around 5 minutes later stating it would be a further 25 minutes wait for the correct meal She then asked if we would like the starter with “some rice” instead At this point we had paid for proper meal this response was unsatisfactory offering us a starter with “some rice” at a full mains price We asked for a refund as one of us already had a meal so we ended up splitting the Asian rice bowl Which was delicious but unfortunately not filling Again waitress was rude returning the money and still offered no apology for her mistake Which would have been avoided if she was doing her job correctly Overall as usual lovely atmosphere the food we received was brilliant however reluctant to return due to the rude waitress and unsatisfactory rectification to her mistake

Through the years we have seen many people take over The Bridge it has been a shame to see people move on so fast. The new owner has really worked hard to give the place a new lease of life. As soon as you walk in you're greeted by a beautiful doggie and she is a very happy and friendly lady. The owner and staff are lovely to speak to and very attentive. You can tell he's put in a lot of work to turn The Bridge around, it's a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. My partner and I nipped in for some lunch and a drink and we couldn't fault the food it was filling and delicious and arrived at our table in great time. The food is great value for money. Overall we had a very pleasant visit and will definitely be coming back regularly. I 100% recommend popping in.

Having first visited in May we decided to have lunch again as a family when I was in the area in October. We visited on a Wednesday afternoon and it wasn’t overly busy so nice and quiet to chat. Two of us picked the lasagne with a side of onion rings to share and the other meal was again the Hunter’s chicken. There was a bit of a wait for the meals to arrive but nobody minds waiting for freshly cooked food. Second time around and we were not disappointed as the high standards we enjoyed on our first visit were on display again. Piping hot, well presented and tasty lunches were thoroughly enjoyed but all three of us and the onion rings were excellent too. Clean plates all round and washed down with a nice pint and a lemon and lime. Walk off your lunch at Carsington which is just down the road! Really enjoyed our lunch so well done to all involved.
