Friendly and bar staff excellent

We hired the Tavern for my son's wedding in October 2023 and were extremely happy with the effort they made. Tristan the manager was amazing providing us with a great buffet for the evening. The staff were all friendly and well organised. I Would highly recommend the Tavern for any Occasion. Thank you

So glad this pub wasn't far from the donkey . Had such a bad experience and such a bad pint in there . This pub was warm friendly and they know how to pour beer . Fantastic

A fantastic pub, the staff are excellent, as you walk in the door. They are making your drinks for you. Fantastic music every Saturday night great bands the people are so friendly and helpful too. If you want a good night out. This is the place to go. Any time off the week. I would recommend this place strongly if anyone asked

Spent the night with friends at the new years eve party. Ages from 18 to 80 and everyone interacting with each other. Amazing atmosphere. Both the live music and DJ were brilliant with the most amazing buffet laid on. Highly recommend this place as I am there most Saturday evenings. Well done Team Tavern you all worked so hard to give everyone a great evening.

I cannot fault this place whether you are having the carvery or bar food you will not be disappointed, The food is amazing ,The staff are superb, I can highly recommend this place , Its got to be the best place in town for a carvery and its excellent and value for money .Definitely will be going back ,

I booked this as there were 12 of us and everywhere else was full, the reviews were good and it was close to where we were staying! From the outside it looks a bit dubious but pleasantly surprised inside. The carvery was in their function room, plenty of space, relaxed and no music which was a plus for me. Great selection of meat and big portions, the turkey was moist and succulent! Good variety of veg, roast potatoes, mash potatoes, stuffing & yorkies all very tasty. The price was great and every one of the party said it was one of the best carverys they've had! Very enjoyable!

Two of us for Sunday lunch.carvery with help yourself to several choice of vegetables, roast and mash potatoes.yorkshire puddings.gorgous cauliflower cheese.there were several choices of meats including beef,turkey, and pork with beautiful proper crackling with stuffing.everything so hot and plenty of meat served too. Desserts a available for a small extra cost.staff are lovely and helpful people.good for families as they cover all generations . lovely Sunday lunch .

Had a few drinks in the Tavern, we were made to feel welcome by the bar staff, nice atmosphere & very friendly people in there, looking forward to returning, PS good beer clean glasses, what more could you ask for.

Worst ever place went here had a few drinks played the machines no one said to me its members only to play the machine let me pump loads of money through when I went to claim my ticket after chucking double through the machine I was told I can't claim it as its for members only the lady behind the bar said I would have to become a member ohh great no big deal so I pay the £5 membership she than states that I still can't have my money as I have to wait for the membership to be accented after all this I just pay a member of the club to collect my money for me but what makes this worse I was meant to get membership through the post after paying them £5 and guess what received nothing so not only I'm down on the machines a few hundred I'm also a further £15 on paying a member to collect my money and becoming a member what a joke of a place absolutely disgusting its not like I went in their and won instantly they had plenty of time to come up to me and let me know its for members only makes me realy angry wouldn't even want to become a member now anyways Ive been to pot black and to youngs and all I can say their much better places....

Good staff very welcoming atmosphere pleasant place

Went to a surprise party at the Tavern absolutely appalling. when I went to set up for the party the place hadn’t even been cleaned from the previous booking, which wasn’t the day before, there was food on the floor when I asked for a hoover they said ‘oh we will do it’ we went back the next day he still hadn’t been done. the bar was a disgrace one barmaid! who was so slow. The bar wasn’t set up correctly, look to disgrace! then to top it off the bar maid dropped the ice tongs on the floor, just picked them up and put them back in the ice bucket. Says it all. Very poor standards.

I booked the Tavern for Christmas day dinner after reading the reviews for the carvery. Well I don't know where these people eat to give it such high ratings, because the main course on Christmas day was barely edible. The starter of deep fried cheese was good but that really was the high point. The beef had been so over cooked it was grey,it had no juices coming from it at all. So we tried the Gammon. This was just about edible but the honey & mustard glace was far too strong.Then we get to the vegetables all of which were totally over cooked. We barely eat a quarter of what we'd been served. The Christmas pudding was obviously just a bought in product. The staff were really lovely and were trying their best.

Great place for a reception or party

Went for Sunday Lunch recently and this Pub has got a lovely friendly feel to it. The Carvery was Lovely and the Price was even better. Children eat for £3.95 and Adults £8.75.....all you can eat. Booked a Work Christmas Meal here since as the Pub had a real Christmassy feel to it and was decorated beautifully with an open fire centrepiece in the bar area!!

We held our wedding function and what a super place.i would like to thank Joe and the owners for a fantasic party and may I say the chief was fantastic he worked so hard and the food was amazing realy was he was so helpful and so hard working the whole place needs 5 stars ***** thankyou all to the bar staff and helping me clean up again brill night would defo recomend this place fantastic. Great buffet breakfast on Saturdays. Incudes fruit juice and tea/coffee. Eggs and hash browns cooked to order, All for less than £5. Can't get better value than than. 😀😀

Great local, not pretentious and well run.

My family and i visited on sunday and can honestly say it’s the best carvery we have had in clacton! Value for money was amazing, The chef was lovely and went out of his way to make sure the meal was lovely! the meat was cooked to perfection and the potatoes were fluffy but crispy just the way they should be The gravy tasted homemade as did the sauces, we will defo be returning not only as a family but as a large group also as it’s a great space to be able to socialise.

Just had another fantastic Sunday lunch, cannot fault the service, the food, the freshness and the amount given. Just like eating a homemade roast.

We always use here for occasional Sunday lunch before the so called refurb when Karen was there, food was great then but today was our first visit, and it was awful

With a family of seven, we tried the carvery here today and were not disappointed. Having been let down by Toby Carvery, a quick Trip advisor search directed us to the Tavern.

We held our wedding reception here. Karen who runs the Tavern is a true gem. Nothing was ever too much to ask for.

I can not praise this venue highly enough for all they did to make my daughters special day run so smoothly, from the friendly staff, right through to the excellent food. We even had some picky eaters that they bent over backwards to keep happy so thank you very much for that. The sit down carvery was fabulous and was thoroughly enjoyed by all but when the evening buffet came out they really did blow us away. If you get a chance to visit this place and you like a good cocktail, ask them for their sex on the beach it is delicious.

They did a lovely wake for a lovely girl today. thanks to the staff who were very friendly & polite.

Always a good roast in the Tavern, I booked a table for 17 couple weeks ago and the staff were very accommodating, every other week they have a singer which is always a nice change.

The the food was great the service was great and where we sat was great ,we all enjoyed it very much and will be booking another one very soon

We have visited the tavern on many occasions for Sunday dinner and it is consistent every time. Food is changed regularly including the meat. I can not fault the carvery at all. I must say I’m not to keen on the live singing as can be a little loud while eating. I feel this is just a personal preference and would most definitely not stop me going there. I have tried the Saturday breakfast which is brilliant value for money again with hot fresh food & tea and coffee included. News was on tv which is nice & has homely feel. Would 100% recommend.

Had Sunday lunch.booked in with mum In a wheelchair.greeted by friendly staff.the carvery consisted of choice of pork,with crackling, turkey and stuffing,roast beef.all freshly cooked with new joints arriving regularly.crispy roast potatoes and excellent choice of vegetables including beautiful Brussel sprouts .the cauliflower cheese was delicious.the head chef sliced ample cuts of meat.such a nice man.we were so full but mum managed a dessert of a large portion of fruit crumble and lashings of custard.but there were also choices of cheesecakes,lemon meringue pie and ice cream.we thoroughly enjoyed and will be returning soon.many thanks to all concerned

Great atmosphere, a nice open fire and great tribute acts. The carvery on a Sunday is fabulous, great meat and veg and not over cooked like some places.

Invited by our friends for lunch, not been before but on their recommendation thought it would be a good place to visit. We all ordered sandwiches for lunch and the amount of food on our plates was very generous and also very tasty! They also have live entertainment so will be going back very soon.

Excellent food, great atmosphere, friendly staff. Live music, beer garden, lots of great entertainment and a short distance to the local beach. Great value.

Went there to get tickets for a Dennis Stratton gig in the back room some time ago one lunch time. A rude bloke sitting at the bar tried to give it the big one, the type who thinks he owns the place. The chap behind the bar dealt with me quite politely but his mate could do with learning some manners. Looks like the place could be cliquey. Dennis Stratton was brilliant, no problems in the back room because gobby wasn't there

I am a regular down the tavern not only is it a good friendly place to have a pint or two but on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons they have a carvery and oh my word what a carvery I have never tasted such lovely food and loads of it you would be a fool to miss out and the price is very good I don't know how they do it for the money and it's allways well attended. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Good value for money clean respectable place to take your family and freinds

Was looking to be entertained not fed. So bought tickets to watch a Freddie Mercury tribute act (including buffet). Read up on the act "Pure Magic" and he seemed very popular and yes he was very good, working the crowd, very looky likey and an entertainer. However, and a big however, The Tavern, is left wanting on a number of levels when hosting such an evening. I have been to the Tavern for live bands and enjoyed the night, but in the Haven Room ...... The buffet looked good with the usual, but looked to be catering for 30/40 people, my ticket number was 127! Didn't try it as had eaten. My guest and I walked into the room. 3 maybe 4 tables were set up for a group of 4/couples, the rest were for groups of 6 to 10 and all taken, with the tables pushed so close together there was nowhere to stand except at the bar, so off we went. The whole night I was pushed, shoved, poked and stepped on by some of the rudest people ever. Did speak to a few people on a cigarette break and all said it was claustrophobic and extremely hot (no ventilation).

ate sunday carvery today. lots of tender meat. the beef was so tasty. roast and mash . selection of vegetables and very tasty thick gravy. only small criticism is that food was a bit cold. however food was so good overlooked this. service was very good and quick.would definitely eat here again.

Have visited the Tavern several times for a carvery (Sundays&Wednesdays;) very good selection of vegetables. The three roasts are plentiful and always full of flavour

have never been in here so much was beginning to feel like home, had a birthday celebration in the hall out the back, we decorated the hall ourselves they supplied the buffet food which was great & the drinks at the bar pricing was pleasing, all the staff were great really friendly & at the end of the night the staff even did the clear up. We then all return on the Sunday for the carvery which was wonderful great food,great meeting place would do it all again thank you all

After visiting many pubs/ restaurants in the area I can say hands down that this is one of the best! Beautiful pub, great food and affordable prices. Very accommodating and excellent staff! Would highly recommend!

Excellent place to go, highly recommended. The staff are very professional and extremely welcoming. Chef Alan is an excellent cook having a meal here is a must. The Tavern is very clean and nicely decorated with the option to join as a club customer giving you discounted food and drink. We have also been to a special event evening with 3 course dinner brilliant time had by all. They also cater for weddings etc in their function rooms which are lovely.

My boyfriend and I visited this place while on holiday in Holland-on Sea. We thought it was clean, very friendly and welcoming and we really enjoyed the live music.
