The Taramind Indian in Leicester

So frustrating, we ordered take away at 7pm NYE expecting a delay but over 2hrs later it's not arrived and they haven't answered the phones. They took the money and the customer service has been awful. Be honest, what kind of service is this? Very frustrated.

Had our first takeaway from here tonight and the food was amazing. The best Indian food we have ever tasted and great value for money. Even the delivery man was very polite. Will definitely use again

10/10 for great testing food, friendly & attentive service and an overall AWESOME takeaway experience. From speaking to the team, the restaurant is under new management. I am a bit of a curry snob (especially as I am now on a vegan diet) so it’s difficult for me to find good quality places to eat which I rave about. I found out about this place from a friend and was delighted to find out that they have vegan options where you can have tofu with pretty much any of the curries - so the options are vast. I opted for the Garlic Chilli Tofu and the curry tasted DELICIOUS - the taste was truly authentic, full of flavour and a delight with every mouthful! I couldn’t tell it was Tofu - it tasted so good I thought I was eating Paneer! I live with meat eaters so we also ordered a Chicken Karahi and I am told that it was one of the best chicken dishes from any restaurant tasted; which is a massive compliment to the chef. We also ordered three tandoori rotiyan and chilli chips - delicious condiments alongside our curries. The portions were good sized, the taste was fantastic bearing in mind I drove 30 minutes back with a takeaway (quality remained) and the experience was a pleasure - the staff were fully COVID compliant and welcoming and warm. Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan or a meat eater - try this place; you will NOT be disappointed. I’m ordering again tonight 😋

Today I worked 15 hours as a health care assistant and traveled 4 miles to the nearest Indian to return home looking forward to my meal to find my order was wrong, I don’t eat meat I only eat paneer. Staff are rude wanted me to drive 4 miles there 4 miles back just to return there mistake. Was very rude and not helpful, I was tired and just wanted to relax refused to help me out wouldn’t deliver another dish when it’s there mistake asked for a part refund he said no chance I’m not willing to do that!! He said he repeated my order back 3 times telling me I’ve ordered chicken! I wouldn’t have never asked for chicken as I don’t eat it! He just said to me what you want me to do about it so I said even a part refund! His responsed no chance and hung up!!! There happy to take your money and not resolve the issue very bad customer service.

The butter chicken is great! Ask for this dish to be spicy and it tastes amazing! And the kebabs were spot on, full of flavour and with great spices! Chips are very mourish and is a great complement to any of the dishes!

Food is amazing i had a butter chicken and a sizzler with a ice cold nice beer these new owners made a real difference and the new menu has so many offers i definitely would advise to come to this astonishing indian

TBH I believe that the Taramind was an amazing restaurant and I'm very excited about the new ownership as I know these people in general and they are amazing. I've heard almost many of their ideas and I do think that the previous owners are leaving this restaurant with great care and responsibility. I'm pretty sure they'll still be using old recipes too but just adding a splash of excitement to these delicious dishes.

Been coming to The tamarind for years and its always been the families favourite. Went to collect the order and I have to say the changes made to the restaurant was amazing, i was gob smacked. We can't wait to eat in when we can. From the new menu i tried the Chicken madras and Chicken noodles, wife had Lamb Jalfrezi and Chicken Shashlik with garlic naans bread and pilau rice, they were absolutely amazing. a top class meal, already looking forward to our next meal at The Tamarind, will defo try the mix grill sizzler as per restaurant recommendations.

I was saddened to hear that The Tamarind was under new.ownership.amd going through a refurb were only doing takeaway only. I've ordered from The Tamarind for years and not gone anywhere else. Service and food was always exceptional. Unfortunately.this wasn't too be. I was not greeted when I collected my food. I've always been offered a free starter or a half cobra on arrival and while waiting to collect my order. The food was also disappointing as it was really oily. Such a shame. I will now be looking for another Indian takeaway.

Worst Indian I’ve ever had. I ordered a paneer curry which you can’t go wrong with and there was only 8 pieces of paneer and the rest sauce. The madras sauce even tasted sour. Also ordered a chili paneer starter. 4 pieces! And again no flavor just whole chilies served with it.

Normally we dont bother with a takeaway as we prefer to eat in but as that is not possible at the moment with the Coronvirus outbreak we decided to give a takeaway ago and i have to say it was delicious. The chicken was lovely and tender with just the right ammount of spice and everything was very heat hot., we didn't even have to microwave it when we got home. WONDERFUL.

We have been having takeaways from here for many, many years. And have now started to eat in as the service we experience is excellent, they are welcoming and friendly and cannot do enough for you. We chose The Tamarind because they are definitely the best in the area. Unlike some their food is not overloaded with salt, their food is cooked freshly to order (unlike buffet style restaurants which I also find unhygienic) and their prices are very reasonable. I read a review that stated it needs a refurb, does it? Each to their own I suppose, but I like the fact that it has kept a more traditional indian restaurant look rather than follow fads and fashions. Everyone has their own experience but please do try it for yourself. I am sure you will enjoy your experience as we do. See you next Friday Tamarind *****

After a bad time we thought we would try again for a takeaway spot on phone to say it arrived on time food lush a great improvement yes will use again

After very slow service and a fair few tainted popadums (hey maybe time to change the frying oil), our food was wheeled out. Korma sauce that must have contained a bag of sugar, which was way to sweet even for a 13 yer old and...

We ordered a takeout from this restaurant. The food arrived warm, the chicken Korai, had prawns inside (we have a seafood allergy in the party), the poppadoms were soft, there were no accompanying dips, the naan bread was uncooked and the rice was absolutely fine. I did try the curries that accidentally had prawns in and it was bland beyond belief.Absolutely shocking, beyond belief! Never ever again!

Poor service no takeaway over hour wait rang twice said on way but listening to conversation not even cooked yet and asked for manager but never got him the person said oh went to wrong address. Obviously never as not left restaurant yet very poor...

Took the family here for an evening meal. The food was decent enough but nothing special. Managed to get one of the main courses wrong, however did offer to exchange etc. Looked after the children very well I must say. Not a lot wrong here...

So I ordered tonight for a delivery and it’s comes bang on the hour and when dishing up there was no rice I had complained and told them to send one out rice as I can’t have curry with out rice.. any way they rang back said they would give us a free curry and 2 free rices when we order next an hour later waiting for them to send out our rice our curry is still sitting in the oven so I called them and they said no that’s was meant for the next time your deliver so still in mind I’m starving and curry in the oven and still they had no one to send out to bring our rice.. I said to them well obviously I still need rice or can eat curry with out rice I’m still waiting and you sent no one out. They said they are really sorry and will get it sent out straight the way still waiting... Then I said I’ll have my free curry and rice for next time and they turned round and said they won’t be a next time.. fuming at this point nearly 2 hours with my curry in the oven and no rice.. I won’t be ordering here again.. excuse half the nan bread we was that hungry we needed to eat something

Went last night with a friend for some Indian food. The restaurant was quiet and clean. The menu was extensive and the food was very reasonably priced. We had popadoms, mixed kebab, paneer tikka and two thalis ( a selection of various dishes a bit like a mezze ). The food was great. What really delighted us was the amazing service. Both Nazeem and his colleague were polite , friendly , profesional and genuine. They asked us if everything was ok with each course and made suggestions and chatted to us. Two great lads. It made our night. We will definitely be going back for more food and superb attentive and genuine service. Phil & Mark

We use the Tamarind for our deliveries and can say we always get a good service. The food is nice and they strive to deliver quickly even when they are very busy. They do not make false promises and tell you your food will be delivered in 30 minutes when they know it will not unlike some other takeaways.I would definitely recommend Tamarind for a takeaway or sit it meal. They are also reasonably priced too compared to other indiant restaurants in the area.

Ordered we had purchased a grouping voucher for the tamarind. Groupon Indian offers have gone badly for us in the past so we a little nervous, but the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and reassuring, very attentive and flexible. The food was lovely more than we could eat. Service was a little slow but to be honest tat just meant we enjoyed a child free evening for a little longer. Well worth the trip.

We did visit during the big freeze but if they opened a window it would have been warmer! I spent the whole meal with my hat and scarf on and my wife wore her coat the whole time. Heaters plugged in but not working looked like they were there for show! Went on a groupon but the whole thing was confusing, deal offers any main upto £10-95 unless a dish under £10-95 including prawns and then a £3-50 surcharge is applied. The food itself is what I would describe as post pub curry fare. Sounds harsh but it wasn’t that good. Overall the groupon is a waste of time it wouldn’t have cost me any more to eat off the menu and I definitely wouldn’t go back and that’s just based on the quality of the food. There are much better Indian restaurants close by and in the city centre.

Went here with a friend on a Friday night. It wasn't busy but it should have been! The service was amazing, the food was delicious. We were not hurried to place our order and even though we couldn't make our mind up, this was not a problem throughout the night. The staff were very knowledgeable on the menu and were very professional and friendly. Nice atmosphere, warm and clean restaurant. Looking forward to returning!

I visited this restaurant last night with my family, we went on a Groupon which turned out to be more expensive than the actual menu & had 8very small soft drinks which was about 3 cans worth which they charged us £15.70 for! When I complained about the price they completely ignored us. To say I was hacked off was an understatement, the food was ok but I felt completely ripped off & would never return!I’m a very dissatisfied non returning customer!!!

Finding a good Indian restaurant is like looking for a needle in a stack of needles. Having said this, after a long search,I finally came across the Tamarind. The restaurant boasts of fresh ingredients,being cooked upon request - this is absolutely the case.The Tamarind is well presented, with staff that are extremely attentive. That couple with quality food is always going to be a winner. However, we attended the restaurant last night and was clear from the start, it was slightly busier than normal and manager our own expectations of the amount of time it woukd take to be served. Despite this, our service was the same great service we've come to expect. The sundries and starters were delicious. We then was asked if we would like 5-10 mins for our mains. I said, yes of course, bring it out when you can. We did wait 10 minutes, but when the food arrived, it arrived warm. Considering we have the same dishes week in and week out, we knew there was something wrong. We tried our food and was debating whether we shoukd send it back. Being that is was luke-warm, I asked someone to come to our table. The waiters mood changed and said he would take it all away. I apologised for having to complain, as it was normally perfect. The manager came to us, with a pen and paper and said he would not charge us for the mains,but drinks and starters we woukd have to pay. Ok fine, BUT, the deal on a Monday/Tuesday is 3 courses for 9.99. So instead of quantifying what the starters would be, he charged us for individual courses on the AlaCartemenu, which totalled 4 pounds short of we had actually had the mains and the naan bread.For the record, the money isn't the issue (as its small change), but the principle of the matter is the issue.Customer service is everything for me and I was extremely disappointed by the actions of a restaurant that i have personally spoke to many people about.Will I return? Im not too sure.

I came in on my own and they didn’t seem interested at first but gave me a table beer ok food average service average all in all this is a average curry in a place where they could do so well if I was in Leicester again I would re visit but only if others was not open

Visited here several times and is always great service and food. You are looked after from start to finish by very friendly staff. Food is spot on and is a must for all curry lovers. You can get Groupon vouchers for here so give it a go. You will not be disappointed.

We visited Tamarind last night with group of friends-we are going to different curry places regularly and this one was the best so far-first impression the restaurant was very clean, the staff was really helpful and polite, the food was really nice (10 out of 10) finely we received complementary drink after dinner which was really nice touch for the end of the night. We will definitely return soon!

The host informed us that the restaurant had been opened for the last 17 years and the efficiency spoke for its self. It was a spur of a moment decision to step in and no regrets. The food was fresh as expected and the host offered a free drink after. I will surely call again.

I love this place me and my boyfriend go here regularly, the staff are great and you can have a laugh with them and the food is amazing by far my favourite place to eat

Visited with a groupon voucher which stated it was a 3 course meal with complimentary tea or coffee. Firstly we never received the hot drink. Timing of the dishes was very good and staff were friendly. Ordered a butter chicken and tandoori special, both of them tasted like a bag of sugar had been dumped into them. Much too sickly to eat!

Visited late evening staff are very welcoming and polite Food was ok not perfect, the lamb was tough, perhaps it is was due to the fact we arrived late but will give it another go

I visited the Tamarind with a groupon voucher (3 courses and coffee). I had paneer shashlik for starter which was really nice. Then for main I had my first ever chicken rezala and it was delicious - really fresh and tasty with a nice level of heat. I'm not a massive fan of Indian food but I was very pleasantly surprised. Everything was lovely - freshly cooked and tasty. The staff were absolutely lovely - attentive without being imposing and really interested in what we thought of the food. We had a peshwari naan which should've been extra but the waiter said not to worry, it was on the house. An authentic Indian restaurant, well located, well priced (I checked out the prices) with a great choice of food. They had several fish dishes on the menu which offers something a bit different to the usual chicken or lamb. Well worth a visit.

Truly enjoyed the interesting food at The Tamarind. I requested a Starter that was not on the menu and it was no problem and delicious. Staff were very friendly.

Collected a takeaway. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would go back for that reason alone. The food was also very good. Decent sized portions, good flavours and quality ingredients. Very happy.

I was saddened to read a few reviews that were less than complimentary about The Tamarind. I used to frequent the place many years ago when my kids were smaller (someone mentioned 10 years - I'm sure they've been there longer than that). Anyway, I've never been let down by the quality or service here, but personal circumstances led me to eat out less regularly or elsewhere. Being in the vicinity and having an opportunity to try it again, I called in with some friends yesterday (Sunday). The staff were polite and courteous and (contrary to another reviewer's experience) able to explain any queries we had about the dishes. The food was all of excellent quality and arrived quickly, but it's fair to say they weren't busy. Between us we ordered four main courses (after popadoms and chutney/pickles) with various types of rice, and naan. There was more than enough for us all and my only regret was having no room for dessert With a bill of just £55 for four of us, and complimentary tea and coffee, I think anyone would be hard pressed to fault it. So, if you feel you've had a less than perfect experience at The Tamarind, I would urge you to go back and try it again now.

Gave these guys a negative review based on 2 visits....although been coming here since 90s.....pleased to announce that after last two experiences that the food has returned to hi quality, clearly better than cold food at chef and spice, and Namaste further up the road....come down, you won't be disappointed

I came here with my mum for a three course meal which we had bought from groupon or wowcher. There was plenty of choice on the menu and the offer included anything you wanted except king prawns had an extra £2 charge per person. The food was extremely nice and all cooked fresh. My only complaint was that I specifically asked for no coriander as I HATE it with a passion and unfortunately, both the starters and mains came covered in it. I ought to have sent them back but being typically British, I didn't. That meant I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. I was disappointed that I mentioned the coriander and it was ignored hence the 3 stars. Other than the coriander, the food was good though.

After being recommended to us we gave it a go and have been twice now, one time it was very busy, the other not so much but the service was attentive without being pushy both times. The real bonus though was the food, very flavoursome and fresh with decent portions. The Tamarind is only small and it would be easy to walk by but we would definitely say give it a go...you won't be disappointed

Booked at short notice using TasteCard, fitted in despite busy bookings for the evening and very much made to feel at home. Good cooking, well balanced flavours and excellent waitering - most enjoyable and memorable evening.

Went at 5.30 on Saturday afternoon didn't leave until 8pm as service was so slow and restaurant wasnt busy and they had 3 waiters on.A couple arrived after us got served promptly and had eaten and left before we'd even had main course.Food is good tasty and good portions but wouldn't rush back.

Food was pretty bland, by not terrible. There are far better choices in the city than The Tamarind, including some you can see from the door.

Poor service, food was bland & took forever to come considering the place was empty. The staff had no idea what some of the dishes were or even what the dish contained. Menu had far too many spelling errors! Worse of all the place was full of flies, when mentioned to staff he claimed it was because of the fresh flower on the table... Makes me think what the kitchen was like! Definitely would not recommend it, I would've walked out if it was not for the company I had! Theres plenty of other better indian restaurants in Leicester. Will never ever step back to the Tamarind.

Excellent Indian Restaurant within easy walking from Leicester City Centre. Junction of Hinckley Road / Narborough Road. Clean, spacious, friendly staff, quick service. Licensed for alcohol. Excellent menu, food tasty and well cooked. Highly Recommend this for all curry lovers.

As you can tell from the title we like this little gem of a restaurant. In an area with 4 Indian restaurants in view you have to be good to survive the ten years the Tamarind has been here.Very simply it is a very good Indian restaurant, I do not use the expression curry house for good reason it is more then that.Good service, a varied menu and pleasant atmosphere. Ok the decor could do with a bit of updating but that,s me being pickyWell worth a visit the food does beat some of it,s city center rivals at about half the price

This is probably the best Indian food I have had in a long time. The value was excellent at just shy of £69 for 4 people having 8 drinks, 4 mains, poppadums, naan, rice and a free starter all cooked to perfection. The service was very good with the staff making us smile without intrusion on our evening. We will most certainly be returning. Thank you gents.

Great food here every time i visit, i always order King Prawn dishes which are excellent, tasty with good fluffy rice and lovely Naan breads!! Very welcoming staff too.

I have been going to the tamarind for many years and it is alway great. Yesterday was no exception. They really look after their regulars. They will make anything for you, so no need to worry if you've got a special diet etc. Very friendly staff, amazing food, what's not to love?

Fabulous Indian cuisine, we all tried each other's dishes and everything was delicious. The service was even better, our host was the nicest most helpful man and he made us feel very comfortable and welcome. And all this for a really very affordable price. I can't wait to go back there !

Great little curry house. Food is great, but the fish tank is a little disconcerting. I would prefer to eat my food without being mesmerised by what is going on at the back end of a fish.

Visited tamarind for a Saturday night curry with family chicken wasn't cooked they did replace it but not with the same style of curry . The nann bread turned up after we had finished eating despite asking twice for it. We asked to speak to the manager but had to go find him .

I recently visited this restaurant for dinner with a friend. The food was typical Indian cuisine made to perfection. The restaurant was pleasant and the food portions generous. I would strongly recommend.

This was our first visit. And wouldn't go again. I had a vegetable khari which had potato, onion, tomato & peas. It wasn't at all spicy more like a hot potato salad. I don't think the place was very clean & very dated, sorry to the staff as they were very pleasant and I didn't pay for my meal. My husbands meal was the chefs creation & much better.

Good tasty food and very reasonably priced.Overall a nice experience and would definitely go back.The waiter was really helpful in helping us decide and for the 2 of us 2 courses some nans and a couple of sides aswell as wine obviously was less than 40 pound and complimentary whisky always helps :-)

Turned up and restaurant was empty. I was a bit dubious but gave it a go. Nazi Christmas symbol over the front door is a bit much but I'm sure they don't know what it is.....?!! Food was actually really good and I would come here again. Could do with turning the music down a bit as it is set for a full restaurant. I would come again

Lovely atmosphere , nice music in the background, very good selection of tasty foods, good selection of drinks, you've got to try their desert menu , well present and worth a visit, the staff are very friendly, service is excellent, thank you for making our night memorable , worth a visit and high recommended

Recommended by my father being his local Indian restaurant. My girlfriend and I gave The Tamarind a go and we were amazed with the quality of the food and the outstanding service too. We will definitely be returning ! Keep up the great work :-)

The Tamarind is simply the best, their food is second to none. When you want curry go here. If you would like anything different just tell them & they will comply.I have eaten here many times & had takeaways you will not be disappointed.

I have been coming here on and off for years. After recently moving back into the area I have been visiting it every week or two. Paul and the waiting team are always lovely and the food is top notch. They really look after new customers and regulars. The wines are very reasonable priced two. Great for couples and groups

I visited here with 2 friends. I ordered the tandoori rainbow trout as it sounded delicious and I fancied trying something new. When I told the waiter what I wanted he incredulously replied "the FISH? Well why don't you have chips as well love?". I was surprised at his rude response and turned the chips down, but he insisted several times that I order some and out of embarrassment I eventually agreed. He then gave me a filthy look and shook his head before walking to the kitchen. I was sat with my back to the window and had a clear view of the entire restaurant and staff, all of whom I could clearly see pointing at me, giggling and whispering. Every 15mins or so one of them would come over and make a nasty remark about what I'd ordered - about what I'd been MADE to order! - "you want ketchup with your fish and chips?" "curry sauce? Mushy peas? "When my food eventually arrived the fish had been improperly gutted and it's poo was caked on the inside, which spoiled the flesh. The chips, which I didn't want and had so offended the staff, were cold and soggy. Before we left, the waiter who had made me order chips so that he could laugh at me made an extremely inappropriate comment to my 2 male friends about me. Due to the TripAdvisor guidelines, that's all I can say about it on a family friendly website.  Do not eat here. The staff are incredibly rude and unpleasant, and the food is boring and vile. If you don't want to serve tandoori trout, don't put it on your menu. I left feeling very upset. 

Ordered a takeaway from here on my last visit to Leicester for delivery (from just eat). Food was over 30mins late so called to find out what the hold up was only to be told by the rude manager they don't normally deliver to our address but they accepted the order and it was on its way. (Why have it on there if you don't deliver and also I was paying cash so could have easily not accepted the order as no money was exchanged).Anyway food arrived late and didn't taste nice. All the sauces for 3 the curries were bland and tasted the same. Wouldn't order from here again. Would have scored zero if I could.

Waited 45 minutes for our starter questioned where it was and was told was being cooked fresh does that mean when I normally get the same starter in less than 10 minutes it's not cooked fresh? We asked for small onions on our dish and got none . Even had to get up from the table to get another drink. You could tell the manager wasn't present as normally much better

I have eaten here a couple of times, most recently on a Sunday around a week ago. On both occasions I have been fishing the upper river Soar at Narborough. Most recently I arrived here late and they were not far from closing but I was seated and fed an excellent meal, as on the previous occasion. The staff and owner are very friendly and helpful, this restaurant is well worth finding, superb!

We visit the Tamarind regularly for take-out and absolutely LOVE it! The staff are so friendly and we always have a good chat while we're waiting for our food. Would recommend to anyone! Great value and great taste!

Very reasonable prices for meals, very friendly and professional chap took our order via phone, made me smile as he kept calling me Andrea (not my name) A fantastic range of vegetarian meals and meat meals, it was hard to decide what to choose as it all sounded delicious. Food arrived to our door swiftly, fresh & hot. The tarka dhal side order was divine, simply divine.The paneer bhuna absolutely delicious, you could taste the fresh coriander and the vibrant flavours tantalising the taste buds. Chutneys & accompanying poppadoms fresh & tasty.The absolute best vegetarian indian cuisine I have tasted in Leicester and neighbouring counties. Well done.My one gripe was no side salad given & 2 of our poppadoms were crushed so unedible. But I will let that slide as the rest was heavenly.

The visit started off interestingly - once we were all seated, our drinks orders were taken... without having been given a drinks menu!After this, the service was brilliant - food came out at a reasonable time for the size of our group (10) and the waiters were very attentive to make sure we all had plenty of drinks etc.The food and portion sizes were excellent, all for a very reasonable price.When I'm next in the area, I would definitely go out of my way to visit again.

During a recent visit to Leicester we had a meal here. The food was tasty and the service was excellent

When we lived in Leicester this always used to be our favourite Indian restaurant. They have a wide range of food to choose from and will adjust anything on it to suit individual tastes. However, after moving overseas we haven't been back for many years until a few nights ago. The food was still as nice as was the service, but the place itself is really showing its age. It is desperately in need of a total revamp as it is looking very dingy indeed especially the carpet. But if you can put all that to one side and just judge the food then you will not be disappointed.
