Interesting pub, interesting customers and lovely atmosphere. Worth the little walk

We enjoyed our meal here. We stopped on our journey north as it was recommended. Dogs are allowed, which was a must and the food was great. Make sure you have a disc for parking. Luckily we had one from France we could use.

Eaten here twice on our travels around Hexham, portion sizes are fantastic and the food is really nice, couldnt ask for better value for money. Good selection of alcohol at a good price too. Staff checked in on us while eating, nothing to complain about. Definitely returning should we be in this part of the world again.

Very good pub staff always friendly enough and on some occasions quiet and peaceful place to sit down and chill with nice food and decent cocktails and a good pint of madri 👍

Arrived after 5 hour drive from St. Just. Was busy but that's good on a Sunday afternoon. We got some beer and asked for food. Service was great and the food was really good. Sadly I couldn't eat it all after all the crisps I ate in the car. Overall a great pub.

Having read the reviews and the fact that the pub was fairly close to our accommodation we thought it looked like a good choice for an evening meal. First impressions were that it was a nice old fashioned pub and the bar staff were very friendly. Choice of drinks was fairly good but they didn’t have any beer on tap from local breweries (not a real problem) despite signs saying they supported local brews. The first concern was that a family arrived and let their dog off the lead and it spent its time running around the lounge. Okay if you’re a dog lover but not so good if like me you’re allergic to dogs. That said when I asked the dog to be put back on the lead it was done. We ordered food and the service was rather slow but we weren’t in any hurry. However when the good did arrive it was all stone cold. We asked the bar staff if they could get it heated up and they said they were happy to do so. The food soon arrived back and was burnt. Not exactly the meal we were hoping for, or as was experienced by customers in the past going by earlier reviews. I can only assume the chef was having a bad day. All in all not the visit we’d hoped for. It’s unlikely we’ll be back for another visit. One thing going for the pub was that the ladies behind the bar were very good and tried to help us.

Never having stayed in Hexham before looked at reviews and chose the Tannery. Service and drinks were good. Regretfully the food we were served was very poor quality, cold on arrival so complained and torched upon return and barely edible. No resemblance at all to the pictures. A real disappointment and no comparison to our visit to the County.

Good drinking pub + entertainment

First visit and found by accident. Good price for large white wine and zero alcohol bottled lager. Off the beaten track in relation to town centre, but that appeals. I'd definitely go back next time in Hexham and probably try food.

Walked passed the tannery a number of times and poped in for a bite to eat and a drink.. I'm glad I did... Great food, and plenty of it..

What is lovely place to sit and relax and read my book, and the food was lovely too.

Rough boozer but busy. Was Tuesday quiz night, and full of students having paid their quiz entry fee, and getting stuck into the complimentary bucket of pasta in a tomato sauce (Looked and smelt good as well). Couple of real ales which were perfectly fine.

What a great place to hang out - friendly, chilled, lovely touches with fresh flowers on the tables - we loved our fish and chips lunch today - generous portions and very reasonable - will be back before long - thoroughly recommend. Thank you 🙏🏼 🤩

Had lunch today after being at the Abbey Spotted it down from car park and dog friendly. Staff were very welcoming and cheery.Good menu,wraps,pizza's, pasta dishes, burger's and good old fish and chips and pudding too.Local Brewery beer.and food served good time.We enjoyed the local chat and banter Tasker say thank you for doggy friend and treats see you again

Teatime pizzas and a pint. Always amazing food, good service and ample portions. We have never been disappointed with any of the food here.

A brilliant family pub with great food and brilliant staff. Travelled today with some of the boys football team I coach , along with their parents. Sitting outside on the benches there was ample space for us all. The staff were very friendly and willing to engage with us, and nothing was a bother. Children’s toys around which is rare in pubs but we thought a fantastic addition. The food was brilliant, fresh and very tasty. Children’s menus were very reasonably priced but were huge and the kids loved it all, and there was plenty on the main menu. We will all be making an annual trip to the place as a group now we enjoyed it that much.

Love this place. Proper hidden gem in Hexham

We used to love coming for food here but the last two visits the food has been poor, with the most recent visit being very disappointing. The burger was very thin and tasteless and the pizza so burned that the crust was black. Neither should have left the kitchen and not much use in the chef saying "he can cook another one but it'll be a wait" when everyone else already has their meals.

Perhaps the best meal balls I’ve ever had. I’d have paid them a dozen times to get the recipe. Bar staff gave great advice about the menu. Not pretentious yet stylish and charming. The food was amazing and worth so much more than we paid. Can’t wait to visit again

Popped in for a quick bite to eat after work and wasn't disappointed. We had burgers and pizza. The portion sizes were generous and the meals were sooooo tasty. The landlord was rallying around making sure all his customers were catered for and thanked them all when departing. Can't wait to return.

Found this lovely dog friendly pub whilst on a day trip to Hexham. Food was lovely, cheese burger and fries and salad, partner had a chicken wrap with fries. Good value for money. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our dog was welcomed which is great

Friendly pub with well-kept beer and superb fish and chips

The menu we had for lunch was fairly basic and we went for the burgers. The vegetarian burger was one of the best I've had - grilled peppers and halloumi with the perfect amount of ancillary ingredients, it was really tasty. The side salad was more than just lettuce, coleslaw was good and the chips were good too (just too many of them). The onion rings were super crispy and tasty but too rich and oily to manage all 4. The reason I'd not give 5* for the food was because my husband's cheese and bacon burger was kind of dry and very salty. I tried it and the veggie burger is way better even if you eat meat. The pub interior is quite nice but also a bit tatty around the edges which is a shame as exposed foam on the seats brings the tone down a lot.

Passed this place many times, this time the wife and I called for lunch! A lovely young lady greeted us and took our order, the food came out quickly and was lovely with large portions, could have done without the fries 🤣 a very pleasant experience 👍

I suppose I was expecting a traditional local boozer when we visited the Tannery, and it really isn’t that. It is however a very smart pub with two very nice bars, both decorated and furnished in the modern style, but retaining a feeling of tradition and warmth. People make pubs, and we got off to a disappointing start when we arrived to find some very young, loud people with the sort of shrill voices that could strip paint. Fortunately they left and we could enjoy the pub for what it is. Certainly on a quiet Thursday evening the atmosphere was relaxing and the music on the speakers was varied and not intrusive. I can’t see this ever being a local boozer, but you need change and variety. If we lived in Hexham this wouldn’t be a regular watering hole, but it was certainly a pleasant place to visit.

Best food in Hexham!! Hands down, had a pizza and it was 5 star then a burger later in the week and was just as amazing

There is new management since the last time we were in but it has made it a better place, a very friendly happy chap, really patient with two children who were in but a the same time talking to the customers, not on the main street but I think it will become very popular, if you visit Hexham it's worth finding. November 23. First visit since the great plague. Normally just visit for a pint but, this time we had food. Service at the bar and table, perfect. Meal serving size and quality, excellent. Prices, outstanding. Worth a trip out if you don't live in Hexham.

One of my favourite places in Hexham for a Pubtime lunch. The pizzas are excellent, the staff welcoming, and it's dog friendly too.

Cracking scran. Tasty, very generous meals. Proper chips means *proper* chips! Quite a "hipster" atmosphere but not in a pretentious way, the staff there were really friendly and went out of their way to fetch water for our dog.

Didn't have any food, so can't score it, but everything that was coming out looked amazing. Drinks were spot on, staff were friendly and helpful. Just moved in about 300 metres away and I think we've found our new local!

By far best pub in town, if you’re a local or traveling through you must stop in and experience the warm welcoming atmosphere. Amazing food and drinks with great music. 10 out of 10 cheers

WOW when ordering a burger (SHARE ONE) we ordered and the food was amazing and for the price was £9.95 the tex mex was too much had to leave it as was not expecting that much the staff member was very helpful we are first time visitors but would return from start to finish all was excellent

Traditional pub, amazing food! Huge portion sizes. The owner even went to get his baby sons spare spoon so we could feed the baby. So kind and went above and beyond. The burgers were amazing and the specials really hit the spot. Definitely recommend.

First visit to Hexham and found The Tannery. Fabulous pub and very homely. Staff are really welcoming. Would love to spend more time here. Arrived too late to sample the food.

I was intending to only stay for some food and then head back for an early start tomorrow, however the delicious hunters chicken burger, and finding out there was an evening pub quiz, I stayed for the full enjoyable duration. The quiz consisted of a variety of different challenging rounds, from classics like general knowledge, movies, and an audio music round (I was surprised how tricky this round was), to more niche topics selected by the quizzers themselves (this week it was Skateboarding). I would only politely request a dooby prize for next time for last place. 😊 Thank you. 🙂

Brilliant place, really good value. Bar staff are lovely. Dog friendly. Amazing selection of beers and spirits and wine. £9.95 for a massive burger, onion rings, fries, a dressed mint salad and coleslaw. Hunters chicken burger and sloppy Joe burgers are very good.

Seven of us visited today . We all had burgers at £9.95 each. Absolutely delicious and loads of food, fantastic value. The ales were great too.

Amazing food and atmosphere plus very dog friendly! When eating out we can often find five adults, three children and two dogs stressful - but not here. Such a chilled place which made it so welcoming and relaxing. The food was AMAZING, very generous portions and good value for money. We had pizzas which in our opinion were better than many Italian restaurants, chicken wraps which were packed full and delicious, huge fish and chips and amazing kids meals which left us all stuffed. Good prices and good beers too. Lots of couples/families with dogs, and although maybe basic in decor it’s all part of its charm. Lovely, friendly service too and we will definitely be back. Thank you!

Good atmosphere but the food was not good. Stay away from the chili nachos, real bad. I should of asked for my money back. Burger was ok. But the owner seems to hype the food up when its not all that good.

We had a fantastic lunch at The Tannery! The staff were fantastic. They were attentive and ensured we had a great time. They really went above and beyond. The food was delicious and the range of drinks was great as well. If you're in Hexham, this is the pub to go to!

We stumbled upon this pub,it has a mix of young and older clientele. There was live entertainment and a large selection of beers,ciders and wines. We will definitely be back.

Quirky and eclectic surroundings and happy atmosphere. Food excellent...delicious fish and chips, not so keen on the mushy peas though! We sat in the beer garden as it was a beautiful evening...it was noisy but not intrusive. A fleeting overnight visit to Hexham, but I would certainly recommend the Tannery to anyone looking for good food at reasonable prices.

Fantastic food freshly made great friendly staff highly recommend

Visited tonight with my wife two daughters and grandson. Nice atmosphere about the place. Two pizza’s and two fish and chips ordered. Arrived very quick and delicious. Fish and chips are cheaper than a takeaway. Good size haddock in nice light crispy batter with hand cut chip’s mushy peas and a small side salad of homemade coleslaw. Amazing. Pizzas very large and again cheaper than any restaurant in Hexham. All washed down with Tannery Tipple golden ale. Lush. Grandson had a great time playing on a few ride on toys they had in the pub. Great to see the place busy again. Staff al very attentive without being over the top. Definitely will be back.

A proper pub. Music, sometimes live, good atmos, a good selection of beer and pub food and frequented by a range of different age groups.

Been to the tannery so many times know for food, last week we both had wraps they were amazing. Today we had fish and chips the portion size is fantastic and the food itself was perfect.

Loved my lunch here with my dad, really excellent food and very warm welcome. Great value for money and really nice decor . The food is to a very High standard with a great selection and the bar staff were thoughtful and friendly.

We stopped by for dinner on a Wednesday. Service was friendly and pretty quick, we ordered nachos, a classic burger, and a sloppy Joe burger and were pleasantly surprised at how much food came out! They don’t skimp on portion sizes here. Everything was tasty, reasonably priced, and aside from one very yappy dog, great atmosphere in the lounge area. We also enjoyed the little history bits and quizzes that came up on the tv screen. Will come again when we are back in the area.

Not only is this better than its ever been with lovely owners.. but it's such an amazing place to eat in hexham.. unbelievable value for money, presented beautifully every time. Every single member of the Tannery team is just so lovely and welcoming.. absolutely love coming here 🧡 big mega bonus is our children are so comfertable here and we never feel like a bother even with our crazy kids.. food really is 5* and so is everything else about the Tannery

The Tannery is a great bar for food and drink, as well as quality live music. It also has a weekly quiz. Nice locally sourced beers and the food is fantastic value and great quality The decor and ambience is really nice too. Light and airy, but traditional at the same time. I must also mention the staff - friendly, cheerful and nothing too much trouble. Great for a drop in lunch or an evening with friends.

Got squeezed in at the last second on a busy pub quiz night for dinner for five and a pooch. Very dog friendly, the menu was varied and the food absolutely divine! Definitely recommend this place. Great selection of drinks and a very popular local for all.

awful staff,we went with our friends and over heard the staff talking to some other customers like dirt,it was vert embarrising.we were put. off by the fleas the place was covered. it put us off but more so the staff are very rude.

We had a fab little meal at The Tannery. Good value food in a lounge with a fantastic atmosphere and really fabulous customer service. We all enjoyed a lovely beef burger, fries and salad. It was just as we hoped it would be.

Good is really good, nice drinks selection, reasonably priced.
