Excellent Indian fine dining. Simple menu with just the right number of options. Perfect for sharing. The lamb chops were a delight as were the roti breads.

This dining experience was notably disappointing. Small cramped seating with an overpriced menu for the quality they offer. - Mango Lassi: Excellent, a redeeming aspect of the meal. - Okra fries: Crispy but bland. - Chicken Lollipop: Over salted, lacking in flavor. - King Prawns: Over salted, lacking in flavor. - Lamb Curry: Bland and tasteless, similar to late-night takeaway quality. - Roti: No issues, satisfactory.

We’d wanted to try this restaurant for a while as it has built up a good reputation but you really need to book exactly 4 weeks in advance to get in, which makes it difficult. The food, especially the small plates, was very good but we did feel that we were being rushed out. Our reservation was for 1hour 45minutes. When we arrived we heard the staff tell a couple that there were already 15 walk-in requests on the waiting list ahead of them. When we ordered we took the advice of getting 3 small plates and were told there’d be a gap between finishing them and receiving our large plates. Unfortunately they committed what I consider to be a cardinal sin of bringing out the mains before we’d finished the starters. This didn’t give us time to digest the starters and as a result didn’t really enjoy our mains as much as we would have. As the waitress cleared our plates we declined dessert but still had half a bottle of wine left. She brought the bill and card payment machine out straight away, without us requesting it. We felt that was our queue to leave despite only being there for 90 minutes of our booking. The food and atmosphere was worth 5 stars but I’ve based my review on the whole experience, which was below our expectations.

I have given 3 stars to the Tamil Prince. The food and service could have been 4 stars or an easy 3.5 but just an overall feeling of not living up to expectations. Here's why. 1) Tables - don't expect one. We sat at a counter by the window. This was fine but not particularly comfortable and definitely crammed in with the people next to you. 2) Food - the food is definitely tasty. But is it any better than your local Indian/Sri Lankan fare. Assuming your local is decent, probably not. None of the dishes wow you and you do not leave thinking that you haven't tried that before. The okra fries were decent, although bland, and not as good as Dishoom's if that's what you are expecting. The appetizers are good, we had the chicken lollipops and the shrimp. Good, but nothing to write home about. For mains we had a chicken curry and a lamb curry. Oddly, the portion sizes for the appetizers were a lot larger than the mains. The chicken curry had two cubes of chicken only, bobbing around in a sea of spice free sauce. All the dishes could have used more heat which was disappointing. The standout is the roti, which is up there amongst the best around. 3) Atmosphere - this was fine. Although a little loud on the music. Definitely more of a pub vibe than an evening out or date night vibe.

Cancelled our booking at Tamil Restaurant several hours before due to a sudden illness, but was still unfairly charged $180. When questioned, the restaurant blatantly lied, blaming the booking system, Resy, for the charge. Both Tamil and Resy lacked empathy in handling our emergency situation. London has plenty of eateries that value their customers and handle unforeseen circumstances more justly. Caution advised before booking here.

Our meal was absolutely wonderful. It stands out as one of the best we had in London. I will preface by saying that we eat a lot of Indian food so we are familiar with the genre and its most common dishes. The food here was both authentic and exceptional: the classics, but done better. They pack the house but we did not feel too crowded even at a shared table. The environment was casual and pub-like. The staff was attentive and jovial. After dinner we particularly enjoyed the house old fashioneds.

Tamil Prince? More like Tamil Pauper. Filthy bathroom, inattentive service, dishonest waiter who kept pushing certain menu items which turned out to be inedible - meat with gristle, watered down sauce, unbalanced spices. Teeny tiny portions, no value for money, and no hot drinks available to try to wash it all down. WARNING: Watch out for the generous 20% tip the waiter will add himself to your bill without mentioning anything. I found it especially cheeky given that we mentioned we couldn’t touch his recommendations as he took away our full plates. He made zero effort to try to turn our experience around. Will never return and do not recommend.

I’d been here previously for lunch and it had be a really lovely experience - the food was sublime, the atmosphere chilled and I’d love it! Fast forward to last night and what a difference! Firstly it was so dark inside that it looked like it was closed; there was loud music pumping out as it it was a club night and freezing cold to the point of having to sit in our coats and winter scarves! The food was ok but definitely not up to the standard of my previous visit and the portion sizes seem less generous. I was very disappointed - it just didn’t feel like the same place!

Incredible food, awesome drinks, brilliant setting and very friendly staff. This is probably the best Indian restaurant we’ve been to in London and that is high praise. The paneer curry and dosas are incredible Not cheap is all I would add by way of a slight bit of feedback

Portion size and price were the two big issues. Especially the portion size with some barely containing 3 or 4 spoonfuls. They have taken the indian cultural aspect of being very generous with food and bastardised it into overpriced gentrified portions fed to those who feel that paying too much for too little validates their self worth. There are plenty of indian restaurants with as-good tasting food but more generously portioned at much more reasonable prices. Not a place I could bring myself to visit again

I revisited this place recently. It is still very busy and almost impossible to get a table unless you are eating very early. The staff are rushed off their feet but still friendly and helpful. However I felt that it has lost some of its magic. The food is still unusual and enjoyable but the onion bhaji was served cold. There are no original King Prawns on the menu and the cocktail list is limited. The dishes were not served with care, being plonked on the table. I felt it was moving towards a good restaurant rather than something unique. The bill for 6 was £260 including service which is reasonable for the quality of food. I shall return however.

Delicious food, attentive friendly staff.. worth heading off the beaten path to find, the lamb cutlets were so juicy and flavoursome and the cocktails are some of the best we’ve tried… a must for any curry lovers!

The Tamil Prince is an outstanding reimagining of a neighbourhood pub, with a fabulous menu that’s fresh, flavoursome, inventive and original. Great service too, plus excellent cocktails, beers and wines. High quality fare all round. We could eat there every day, in an ideal world!
