Another lovely lunch at the Tame Otter. We have been there a few times now as a good venue for us all to meet up, but we only get to do this about every six weeks. Ros who served us, has served us before and greeted us as old friends. She and her colleagues went out of their way to ensure everything was right for us which we can see is how they always do things at the Tame Otter. The food as usual was excellent

We went for lunch today and the experience was very disappointing. My partner ordered the fish and chips which were ok, nothing to write home about. I ordered the steak Medium Rare which came out well done. It was politely sent back, they apologised and replaced it within 10/15 minutes with a Rare steak. Maybe the chef was being passive aggressive. In all fairness to the Manager she was lovely and gave us the money back for both meals. It’s a shame that our previous experience a few months ago (once again on a Sunday) was just as bad. The wait for the mains was over an hour. We tried to order deserts but after another 40 minutes of waiting we had to give up. We’d been there for nearly 3 hours and it wasn’t fair on the children. It’s such a shame because the location is great, they allow dogs, it’s cosy and clean, the staff are lovely. They have a good selection of drinks but the food is so poor. I’ll go back for drinks happily but I think we’ll eat elsewhere for the foreseeable future.

Six family members, including myself, went for lunch. For those with disabilities please let the pub know at time of booking because my disabled mom has to navigate quite a few steps to get to our table. We were offered an alternative table, which was a lovely thought, which mom declined. If you like fresh cooked food in a warm and friendly environment then this is the place for you. If you want fast food, then go to a fast food restaurant. Having said that we waited about half hour for our six main courses to be cooked. None of our party had any complaints. All our plates were left clear. There are vegetarian options available. Ros, our server (I really don’t like that word) attended to all our requests and had a warm and welcoming personality. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Will we go again, absolutely yes x

Came as a part of a large booking around 7:30. Lovely atmosphere and fantastic server but the food was a letdown. 2 vegetarians present at table and we both planned on getting pizza or aubergine gratin as we had seen them on the menu online. Sat down and we were told there would be no lasagna or pies which was fine by us. Then at the time of ordering we discovered there are no pizzas and there was no aubergine gratin left. One of us had a vegan curry which was apparently lovely, I went for a Mac and cheese that was a tiny portion and had clearly been sat under the heat lamp for a good while as it had gone dry and had a film on top. Few other issues with food such as a burger coming with mayo on when we asked for it off and no bacon in a chicken, bacon and avocado salad. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait for food but ended up being about an hour however due to the size of our party we could understand entirely. After the disappointment with dinner we decided to go for desert. Three of us wanted the honeycomb domb and I bet you can guess what happened next… no honeycomb domb left lol. The server was so apologetic for something that was not at all their fault and we absolutely cannot fault their service. My one upset is that they even took us as a booking anyway if they knew they couldn’t accommodate such a large booking at a later time in the day. This was my first experience at the Tame Otter and safe to say I probably won’t be going again.

Tried the Tame Otter for the first time recently and overall, it was an OK experience. We were a group of 5 and most of us enjoyed our meals - I got the gammon steak, which was definitely overcooked as it was tough to cut through and difficult to chew. For me, the biggest let down was the customer service. There was a real lack of smiley faces from the young female bartenders and when I asked what came with the sweet toffee pudding, I got a response but not without me feeling uncomfortable and like I was being a massive annoyance for asking. It was 6pm on a Saturday night so I get that staff are tired and busy but a welcome and smile when a customer walks through the door is really not much to ask for. Will give it another try one day as they might have been having an off night and the food was decent, just hoping the customer service will be better.

ne in for lunch with my sister. Very disappointing. Although we booked a table for 1pm we were told there'd be half an hour wait. I ordered a steak sandwich. The steak was cold, tasteless and fatty! The cress on the sandwich was a wilted mess so I took it off. I asked for fresh cress or leaves and the waitress just grabbed the cress off my plate and put put in a bin behind me! She bought some more which was very slightly fresher! Won't be rushing back which is a shame as I've previously had a good experience.

The food was nice, however I'm afraid that the manageress (I presume) made us feel unwelcome from the moment we sat down. Admittedly, we did walk in and find a table but there was nothing to clearly suggest upon entering that you will be shown to a table. It wasn't particularly busy and there were numerous tables available throughout the restaurant area. I heard the manageress loudly ask a waitress 'who seated them?' while pointing in our direction, which made me feel very embarassed and as if we shouldn't have been there. We were told we were sitting 'in the restaurant area' and once I had explained to her that we wished to order food and have a meal, I was met with a very brusque and rude manner from the manageress and we felt very unwelcome. Had it not been for the fact that we had already ordered food at the bar, we would have left. A very disappointing and upsetting experience, which is unfortunate as we have visited the Tame Otter a number of times over the last 15 years.

Had a lovely meal previously when we visited beginning of the year, however our visit this time was very disappointing. The outside is lovely, with lovely hanging baskets and nice seating area, however the inside seems very tired and could do with a lick of paint or at least a good clean, especially the toilets. The food was also very disappointing, I ordered a steak baguette (pink) it arrived over done, no onions were available, I returned it but the 2nd came back not much better, hardly any meat on a very hard ciabatta, that had to be left. We also ordered from the children’s menu £8.50 for a saucer portion of pasta in a watery red sauce, that looked more like red sauce & cornflour no taste, no cheese, we ended up buying extra garlic flat bread as the portion wouldn’t have fed a 2yr old. Deserts were ordered, only because we were still hungry, brownies we lovely, the crème brûlée was more like tin custard with sugar melted on top. The milk that was served with the tea had curdled, so that had to go back. The staff were polite and did exchange the food and milk, however it was just an expensive lunch when the food was so disappointing, won’t be visiting again.

It was a very busy Friday night and was explained the wait for food was 45 minutes, which we were happy to have a few drinks. We ordered the sharer cambert which we had previously had on our last visit and can only say how disappointed we was, The bread was clearly stale yet they chose to serve us it. Called in as we moored nearby on the canal. The Doom Bar my husband had tasted off. My drink was fine but when I sat down I felt something sharp and realised I'd got a shard of glass on my seat. There was quite a bit of broken glass around our table (we were outside) so I asked a member of staff to clear it as we had our dogs with us. Someone came to sweep it but there was still quite a lot left. We only stayed for the one drink!

We were not given cutlery for our main course. It was more than 2 hours before our main course arrived and alas we had NO cutlery to eat it with!!! Went to The Tame Otter on a Sunday and we opted for Sunday roast. We had to wait a long time for the food to be served, which wasn't such a big issue as it was quite busy. Although the food looked nice when served to other customers, we soon realised it wasn't so good. The price for Sunday roast starts at £16 and you would expect to get more than just two small slices of meat, a Yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes that tasted like they've been reheated couple of times, overcooked broccoli and big quarters of parsnips that weren't cooked in the middle. It was a shame that the food wasn't so nice, as we've been here before and we've enjoyed it. We'll probably visit again and sit by the terrace, but not order Sunday dinner anymore.

Massive drop in quality. Me and my family have eaten at this pub many times over the last few years, today's meal was a serious drop in quality. It is clear the chefs have no pride in the food they cook. My burger was tough and dry, my wife's fish cakes were over cooked and my onion rings were burned. We waiting almost an hour after ordering to receive our food, we were the only people in the restaurant when we ordered. To the head chef if you read this, it is obvious to everyone that the food is either reheated or cooked from frozen. So disappointing, we won't return again with many better pub restaurant alternatives.

Lovely location especially in the sunshine and also dog friendly, however sadly let down by poor food! We were a party of four that had drinks and the 'strips of steak in a rustic roll' .... shocking for £10.50 per person, there was minimal steak on the roll and we were all disappointed it was cold! We advised the bar staff and one of our party decided to take up the offer of a 'replacement' steak roll ... there was more steak on it but again only lukewarm. After complaining we were advised that the rolls were 'pre packed' and 'bought in' and that the pub had 'no control' over the quality .... Great location right next to the canal but we won't be eating here for food again given the 'standards' or lack of it, of the steak rustic roll ....

Superb for meals, Sunday lunch trio is excellent, never enough gravy though so I always ask for another jug of gravy, not charged for it. Very nice meal. Staff always great. Occasionally, table service is restricted to main restaurant, and occasionally excludes extention so you have to order at bar, which can get busy on sunny days and a little frustrating as you want to order your food. Best decide before you get there on sunny days and order on entry. Garden is lovely, with canal and mooring. Hence popularity. We go regularly, and recommend highly.

The food was below average - the rice in the curry was a solid mass and the chicken hard, dry and tasteless, very little sauce which had disappeared into the rice. I had a salad where the chicken was dry, the avocado soft and mushy ( couldn’t eat it) and the bacon dry and crisp - almost brittle. Staff not interested in hearing our complaints - just a shrug of shoulders. Not informed about offers when asked - one member of staff thought they were Ember and not Vintage Inns. Poor service. Would not recommend now.

A really atmospheric and authentic English pub with a wonderful interior and a large patio terrace. The food was pretty good but a bit bland and I should have ordered authentic English a'la fish 'n chips or pie because they looked delicious. Nice place to visit.

Not very good at all sadly. Moored overnight on a canal trip. Booked for 19:30. Arrived to be told 40 minute delay on food. Didn't seem that busy so bit of a red flag. All food and drinks ordered at bar and paid for in advance. Ordered two chicken currys and two fish and chips. Currys arrived first, no cutlery or condiments. Several minutes delay for fish and chips. Chicken in curry was inedible - dry and very overcooked, rice was a solid block. Had probably been kept warm for too long. Fish and chips were passable, mushy peas were lacking in...well, peas. Called manager, explained situation, two fresh currys offered and accepted. Arrived after fish and chips consumed, so meals not eaten together. At no time did the manager check the quality of the second offering, which was only marginally better than the first. Had we received a bill (rather than paying in advance) I would not have paid the full amount. The Red Lion is opposite. Will opt for that one if we're passing through again.

Greeting good, table placement good, service good, main course good, dessert good apart from the use of squirty cheap cream instesd of fresh cream. Overall we very much enjoyed our dining experience at the Tame Otter..

Another Marston's Pub. I ordered the Mixed Grill. They did not have it. In my whole history of visiting Marston's pubs on only one occasion when I ordered the Mixed Grill did they have it. Is this a mythical menu item. The service was exceptional and the real ale was good. Food was standard chain pub grub.

Rubbish cafe, don’t bother ordering from uber eats cause they just decline the order every single time what’s the point offering food on uber eats if you cancel the order every time
