Great staff who were very welcoming and obliging. Great food. Would have liked a better choice of ales, especially a porter as it was winter time.

We pre booked for a Thursday evening. Service was slow, especially on the drinks. Most of the menu wasn't available. Food over priced for packet food. No steaks at all available and also loads of other things on the menu not available. The waitress was friendly but had no clue about drinks and couldn't even pronounce the names of most of them. The app that gives you 50% off was the only thing that saved the evening. Won't be going back Desserts were OK.

I went for Sunday lunch with my daughter. I had a glass of Pino Grigio and my daughter a glass of Sauvignon Blanc both of which were pleasantly chilled. We started with prawn cocktail for my daughter and garlic mushrooms for me. The latter dish had clearly been standing in the kitchen for some tome. It was cold and somewhat congealed. We both had lamb rump with Sunday lunch vegetables and I ordered a side dish of pigs in blankets which were awful. The sausages were very greasy. The whole of my main course was cold and the sprouts were undercooked. I had fruit crumble. It was too juicy, contained too little fruit and a piece of rhubarb was hard and stringy.

We attended a Boxing Day meal, and the experience was disappointing. While the bar staff was great, the service overall was appalling. Potatoes were rock hard, the gravy was overly salty, and puddings took over an hour to arrive even though the pub was not busy no cutlery provided It felt like no one cared . Such a shame, as the pub has great ambiance, but the staff’s lack of personality has really let it go downhill.

We have been coming boxing day for a few years now, apart from last year due to me having chemo, so this year we were really looking forward to geting back to our usual arrangements. We arrived at 1 o'clock our table wasn't the cleanest and some cutlery needed changing as it was dirty. We waited over an hour for food and had to go and ask when we were going to be served. Our drinks also took over half hour to arrive. When we finally got our food we had to send the soup back as it was cold and there was a hair on one of the drinks when it arrived. We all know things happen on a busy shift and the bar manager (i think she was) tried to put everything right, but the girl who bought our soup slammed it down and never said a word to us never even smiled. Although the waitress that took our order was lovely and friendly this didnt make better all the things that wernt great. Our disappointment will not be encouraging us to return again which is a big shame.

We went for lunch today and the experience was very disappointing. My partner ordered the fish and chips which were ok, nothing to write home about. I ordered the steak Medium Rare which came out well done. It was politely sent back, they apologised and replaced it within 10/15 minutes with a Rare steak. Maybe the chef was being passive aggressive. In all fairness to the Manager she was lovely and gave us the money back for both meals. It’s a shame that our previous experience a few months ago (once again on a Sunday) was just as bad. The wait for the mains was over an hour. We tried to order deserts but after another 40 minutes of waiting we had to give up. We’d been there for nearly 3 hours and it wasn’t fair on the children. It’s such a shame because the location is great, they allow dogs, it’s cosy and clean, the staff are lovely. They have a good selection of drinks but the food is so poor. I’ll go back for drinks happily but I think we’ll eat elsewhere for the foreseeable future.

Six family members, including myself, went for lunch. For those with disabilities please let the pub know at time of booking because my disabled mom has to navigate quite a few steps to get to our table. We were offered an alternative table, which was a lovely thought, which mom declined. If you like fresh cooked food in a warm and friendly environment then this is the place for you. If you want fast food, then go to a fast food restaurant. Having said that we waited about half hour for our six main courses to be cooked. None of our party had any complaints. All our plates were left clear. There are vegetarian options available. Ros, our server (I really don’t like that word) attended to all our requests and had a warm and welcoming personality. Came as a part of a large booking around 7:30. Lovely atmosphere and fantastic server but the food was a letdown. 2 vegetarians present at table and we both planned on getting pizza or aubergine gratin as we had seen them on the menu online. Sat down and we were told there would be no lasagna or pies which was fine by us. Then at the time of ordering we discovered there are no pizzas and there was no aubergine gratin left. One of us had a vegan curry which was apparently lovely, I went for a Mac and cheese that was a tiny portion and had clearly been sat under the heat lamp for a good while as it had gone dry and had a film on top. Few other issues with food such as a burger coming with mayo on when we asked for it off and no bacon in a chicken, bacon and avocado salad. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait for food but ended up being about an hour however due to the size of our party we could understand entirely. After the disappointment with dinner we decided to go for desert. Three of us wanted the honeycomb domb and I bet you can guess what happened next… no honeycomb domb left lol. The server was so apologetic for something that was not at all their fault and we absolutely cannot fault their service. My one upset is that they even took us as a booking anyway if they knew they couldn’t accommodate such a large booking at a later time in the day. This was my first experience at the Tame Otter and safe to say I probably won’t be going again.

Tried the Tame Otter for the first time recently and overall, it was an OK experience. We were a group of 5 and most of us enjoyed our meals - I got the gammon steak, which was definitely overcooked as it was tough to cut through and difficult to chew. For me, the biggest let down was the customer service. There was a real lack of smiley faces from the young female bartenders and when I asked what came with the sweet toffee pudding, I got a response but not without me feeling uncomfortable and like I was being a massive annoyance for asking. It was 6pm on a Saturday night so I get that staff are tired and busy but a welcome and smile when a customer walks through the door is really not much to ask for. Will give it another try one day as they might have been having an off night and the food was decent, just hoping the customer service will be better.

The food was nice, however I'm afraid that the manageress (I presume) made us feel unwelcome from the moment we sat down. Admittedly, we did walk in and find a table but there was nothing to clearly suggest upon entering that you will be shown to a table. It wasn't particularly busy and there were numerous tables available throughout the restaurant area. I heard the manageress loudly ask a waitress 'who seated them?' while pointing in our direction, which made me feel very embarassed and as if we shouldn't have been there. We were told we were sitting 'in the restaurant area' and once I had explained to her that we wished to order food and have a meal, I was met with a very brusque and rude manner from the manageress and we felt very unwelcome. Had it not been for the fact that we had already ordered food at the bar, we would have left. A very disappointing and upsetting experience, which is unfortunate as we have visited the Tame Otter a number of times over the last 15 years.

Had a lovely meal previously when we visited beginning of the year, however our visit this time was very disappointing. The outside is lovely, with lovely hanging baskets and nice seating area, however the inside seems very tired and could do with a lick of paint or at least a good clean, especially the toilets. The food was also very disappointing, I ordered a steak baguette (pink) it arrived over done, no onions were available, I returned it but the 2nd came back not much better, hardly any meat on a very hard ciabatta, that had to be left. We also ordered from the children’s menu £8.50 for a saucer portion of pasta in a watery red sauce, that looked more like red sauce & cornflour no taste, no cheese, we ended up buying extra garlic flat bread as the portion wouldn’t have fed a 2yr old. Deserts were ordered, only because we were still hungry, brownies we lovely, the crème brûlée was more like tin custard with sugar melted on top. The milk that was served with the tea had curdled, so that had to go back. The staff were polite and did exchange the food and milk, however it was just an expensive lunch when the food was so disappointing, won’t be visiting again.

Although the food looked nice when served to other customers, we soon realised it wasn't so good. The price for Sunday roast starts at £16 and you would expect to get more than just two small slices of meat, a Yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes that tasted like they've been reheated couple of times, overcooked broccoli and big quarters of parsnips that weren't cooked in the middle. It was a shame that the food wasn't so nice, as we've been here before and we've enjoyed it. We'll probably visit again and sit by the terrace, but not order Sunday dinner anymore.

We waiting almost an hour after ordering to receive our food, we were the only people in the restaurant when we ordered. To the head chef if you read this, it is obvious to everyone that the food is either reheated or cooked from frozen. So disappointing, we won't return again with many better pub restaurant alternatives.

Nothing was great about our visit today had to get own drinks waited hour and 15 mins for food even tho she had told us 45 min wait food not very hot and extras took a while to come out after food was served and have noticed while waiting long time I think your tables need a deep clean on looking at where the table gaps the amount of bits of food I suppose in the table gaps made me feel a bit sick to be fair

We came to The Tame Otter yesterday and we highly recommend. The food was delicious, the staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, even though they were extremely busy! Tom, in particular, stood out to us and is a credit to The Tame Otter 🙂

Food was decent enough on food but waited over 2 hours from ordering and service was pretty abysmal. Very disappointed.

Shout out to Danny (who served us) and all her colleagues at the Tame Otter. We were there for lunch, Saturday before last and were really well looked after. Good hearty food in generous portions, catering for meat eaters and a vegan in our group. Danny was a delight, friendly, down to earth and respectful, she couldn’t do enough for us. The pub was busy but we didn’t feel we were rushed. We will be back!

Waited over 1 hr for food that was totally unacceptable, had to have fish and chips because there was no turkey to have a Sunday roast at 4 o clock! , when my fish and chips came I had 10 over cooked chips mushy peas that were just water. Was told they were busy and sometimes this happens when the sun's out !, well when you pay 18 pounds nearly for a meal that us not worth the money and the way it was served, that is not acceptable. Totally ruined my birthday dinner , was recommended to go here , will not bother again , my husbands 21 day old beef was tough and not in the bit tasty. unless it's for a drink and a bag of crisps , will not use again , don't waste your money

Great food and bar snacks, decent range of beer and ciders, ideal canalside location with extensive outdoor seating and a large car park.

Really fed up with this place. It used to be really good but it has gone down hill. Food takes forever to come out and it’s poor quality. We won’t be returning anymore

First time going to this beautiful restaurant! Very rustic and country feel and the staff are super friendly. Ros was the perfect waitress! Such a pleasant lady who made our experience even more special! Food was so tasty we had the lamb and it was the perfect portion!

It is such a lovely place. Music on, but in the background not loud so you can have a conversation. Friendly staff. Lovely food. Xx my parsnips on Sunday was a tad too hard for my liking. But over all it was very nice. Xx

We came here for an early Father’s Day meal and the welcome was first class. Excellent service at the bar, great drinks and cosy places to sit. Our meal was fantastic great quality food with generous portions. I had the chicken bacon and avocado salad and it was so tasty and deceptively filling. The service was top notch and nothing was too much trouble even though we had two young children and a couple of people with tricky allergy requirements. Ros was incredibly patient in checking through our order despite being busy and she looked after us brilliantly. Can’t recommend enough, 5 stars! 👌

We had a wonderful time at my daughter's baby shower. The afternoon tea for around 20 guests was delicious and the staff extremely flexible and friendly. I changed my guest numbers several times and made some special requests to make my daughter's experience a truly special one. Claire and Nigel were both friendly and attentive to make sure that everything on the day was perfect. I highly recommend this venue!

Stopped here for a Latte during our walk. Unfortunately it was made with instant coffee. We had a small size which was tiny. Two mouthfuls and it was gone and at £2.50 expensive. For that money you can get a decent size cup and a real latte. It is a shame because this is a nice place, but would go to the other cafe next time.

Astronomical prices! I called for a pint, only cider on was Somersby, it cost me £4.85 Dreadful place. No damn wonder it was empty, never again. Avoid, Wetherspoons is next door.
