The Talkhouse in South Oxfordshire

DO NOT ENTERTAIN STAYING AT THIS PLACE. Arrived to a cold and unwelcoming room. Extremely noisy as the room is in a courtyard where the kids play and scream outside, and there is no sound insulation from the outside. All rooms lost power at 5pm and no electricity, no light, no hot water or heating. Just a cold dark room. (We monitored the website and electric was back on @ circa 3am!!) Discussed with the manager that we can’t stay in a place that couldn’t provide basic amenities, but was told that no refund would be given. Spoke to the owner Nick Duval on the following day and he refused any form of refund saying electricity is not in his problem, tough luck, go and claim from the electric provider, and if I don’t like it I should ‘sue him’!! He then put the phone down on me and blocked my number. Obviously Nick needs the £62 more than I do. !!!!!!! AVOID !!!!!!

Fantastic atmosphere. Very friendly staff, lovely food. Rooms are lovely and cosy. Would highly recommend.

I see myself as a bit of a burger connoisseur who rarely feels the need to review a burger or place I have visited, but on this occasion I would quite happily sing from the rooftop as to how nice this burger was. The venue is a period building which oozes character, topped off with the friendly service and family feel, it was a true pleasure to eat and spend time in such a lovely setting. Keep up the good work, I will be back! (I did not stay in the hotel)

We went there for Mother’s Day it was beautiful extremely busy so had to wait obviously which was fine and worth the wait will definable return well done all

We had a lovely Sunday roast, the vegan nut roast was excellent. Service was absolutely brilliant - we had met up with friends after a long time and weren’t disturbed or rushed out the door. Enjoyed the sun in the garden area which is beautifully decked out.

My family and I went to the talk house for mothers day and I must say that the service was amazing, the staff were accommodating and very knowledgeable about the menu, they offered advice and alternatives due to a family member having coeliac disease.

Lovely staff in a lovely setting. The room was cosy and decent sized coffee cups in the room! Big car park across the road. Unfortunately we didn’t eat there but the dishes that passed us looked very appetising! I would definitely be returning! Very dog friendly (with gravy bones on the bar!)

I brought my mum here for mothers Day. What a wonderful, friendly bunch throughout. The food was delicious, and the service was outstanding. I would definitely recommend eating here.

Unfortunately the food was only lukewarm and they forgot about the kids food we were half way through mains by the time the chicken nuggets came out

Very slow service. There was only one waiter on a busy lunchtime and even he disappeared for long periods. It took over an hour to get our main courses and then 45 minutes to get a dessert menu! We couldn't even order drinks because there was no-one around.

Fantastic country pub with delicious food. Great service, wonderful relaxed atmosphere and will definitely visit again.

Me and my husband had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful country side pub for the weekend. The cozy fire place and sofas were perfect for relaxing in the evenings with a glass of wine. The pub was gorgeous and the atmosphere matched. The staff were so welcoming and attentive during our whole stay and really took the time to talk to us and make sure we were always taken care of.

Excellent service from the waitress when we arrived but took a while until our meals arrived (45 minutes ) and the restaurant was pretty quiet. The food was good but for the money, the portion sizes weren't that big.

This is a lovely Hotel and pub the staff make it .Helen is a lovely human being helpful professional and welcoming on arrival. Food is good I have never had a bad meal .I do think the ladies drains in the toilet need to be looked at not a nice smell (it's drains ).Will not stop us going 😉 viv @ ady

Enjoyed our family Christmas meal this evening. I had Turkey and was very happy with my meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Visited for the first time today with a friend for lunch, what a lovely country pub… a very warm welcome on arrival, service was great and the food was absolutely delicious!!! Thanks guys, keep up the great work, will definitely be back… 5 🌟’s from me 😊

Visited here yesterday evening with my family to celebrate my birthday. I had such a lovely time, the pub interior is absolutely beautiful, perfect atmosphere, the food was amazing and the service was so lovely and friendly. Absolutely wonderful place, I could not recommend it enough!

Charming pub, excellent venison sausage and mash, friendly staff. Will return.

The Talkhouse is a very pretty looking pub and located in a very picturesque part of the world. The inside of this listed building is even more inviting, as are the staff who look after you from start to finish. I can't comment on the rooms because we did not stay there but I can definitely comment on the food and drink which was excellent. I was told that they locally source their ingredients and are proud to advertise the companies that they use. They were very busy when we arrived but the service did not feel rushed and the orders arrived in good time and was piping hot. I tried their Trio Roast, basically a 3 meat Sunday roast. None of the meats were overcooked, which I have come across in busy establishments and the vegetables were tasty. The other people in my group were equally impressed with their dishes. I highly recommend a visit if you are in this part of the world.

Can't say about the rooms as didn't stay there. Lovely old style pub. Friendly staff, ambience good, garden at back with seating area. Food is available. Plenty of free parking available opposite.

Came in for a roast having been before and it was diabolical. I had the chicken and my husband had beef - mine tasted as if it had been reheated countless times and husband’s looked as if it was carved with a biro! We had hoped this would be a little hidden gem for us but I do not plan to return anytime soon the food lacked any taste of care and it was such a shame as the girls on the floor were doing their absolute best to make up for the food

Good food but slow to be served

Currently in my room listening to the bar/kitchen staff singing at the top of their lungs at 10:30pm at night. Needed a good nights sleep as attending the Oxford Half Marathon tomorrow and needed some quiet. Definitely don’t visit if you want a good nights sleep!

Lovely country pub. Nice beer garden, although it could do with some weeding. Lovely indoor space with super friendly and helpful staff. Although we didn’t eat, the food we saw looked delicious, if we are passing again we will stop for a meal. Good spacious car park opposite.

Very friendly staff. Warm welcome. Quirky small room but served the purpose for a 1 night stay close to Studley Wood Golf club where I was playing a competition. Excellent cooked breakfast and friendly staff keen to ensure everything was as I wanted it.

Prompt attention from diligent bar staff

Nice place with nice food, the annoying thing was the staff! They were all the time behind the bar chatting and we have to go to the bar every time to order/ reminder food or drinks! Basically not doing any work… the table were very dirty! Really annoying

Our room was spacious and neat. But the bathroom smelled like a septic tank which was not pleasant at all. Also received a very unfriendly welcome at check-out. I just bumped into her at the door because she was even leaving. She didn't even ask what it was like.

This country pub offers fantastic dining and a scenic view of the historic county of Oxfordshire.

Nice historic pub in a beautiful location. Patio garden with accommodation and sheltered seating.

We stayed at the Talkhouse for one night, really cosy and well equipped rooms, the food at the pub was decent too! Highly recommended!

Excellent stay clean warm room, hugest shower head ever, making for a very wonderful shower! Comfy bed, quiet road, fabulous staff.

Just popped in for a drink and found a lovely little country gem.

We visited for a friend's wake. We will return in happier circumstances soon. We found Cydney and Lara to be excellent t hosts. Very attentive, they were also friendly polite and a pleasure to speak to. We had a nice chat with cydney about the history of this quaint village pub. The lounge and bar are well stocked with period piece furniture. The pub itself is 1600's at the oldest parts with additions in 1990's at the newest. We will return.
