Fantastic friendly service here with the most delicious chips you’ll find. Open every lunch and evening apart from Sundays and definitely worth a revisit.

The moment you walk in and that chip shop smell hits you you know it'll be good and it was. Very decent sized servings, fast service and great taste.

Stopped her for lunch. Just on closing time. Ordered Cod&Chips. Offered to bring it to my car as it needed to be cooked. Batter was amazing and fish was fresh and mighty tasty. Will make a detour to return. Wonderful lunch, and service well done.

I have recently moved to the area and was delighted to see that the fish and chip shop was not far! Everybody really nice, lovely food and nice atmosphere .

Staff are Always pleasant even if it's a busy period. The food is very tasty and we'll cooked. Customer side of the business is very clean and hopefully the prep side is too.

Delicious fish ,enourmous bag of chips. (The bag of chips was enough for 3 persons) Everything was fresh.

It was reasonably good. The chips were lovely, the fish was nice although slightly crispy, and the saveloy wasn't so good. The prices aren't bad.

Been eating here around once a year whilst staying at my aunt's in the village. The portions are good and the service is efficient. There is limited parking at the rear.

We found this place in Woodcote and they have an all round great service from fresh well cooked food to a great service. We'll worth a visit you will not be disappointed.

This place used to be consistently good however last nights visit was complete rubbish,empty shop the chips might as well be boiled (went straight in to the bin). Avoid and take a slightly longer drive to benson shop

Called in on a Monday after returning from a funeral in London at 8.55pm. The place was spotless and the staff were brilliant, cooking us cod & chips when they were ready to close. The staff were very friendly & polite and the fish was delicious. Thankyou for being so charming & helpful to us. It was our first visit...we will be back.

The food was cooked to perfection. Nothing was heavily battered or overly greasy. The staff were all welcoming and friendly. The price was very reasonable. If you're in the area it's The Plaice to be.

Very good Fish and Chips, prepared while you wait.

The team at The Plaice took my order with happy smiles, they cooked my order right there and then while dealing with a lot of other customers. My cod and chips were not rushed. The fish was steamed perfectly in the crispy golden batter. I will be reliving my childhood and asking for crispy bits when I next visit. Lovely Friday night treat🐟🍽️

Great food, not greasy like other chippys. Great portion sizes, beware large is LARGE! friendly staff and very clean. BUT one criticism, they DO NOT accept debit cards despite what the Google thingy says. Cash only. Still gave 5 stars though.

Chips are generally good however after waiting 20 minutes a young male staff member basically threw the bag of chips at me after putting barely any salt on it without saying a word to me and walking off after.

Had it tonight. Everything was delicious. Not too greasy and oily. Cod was great. Highly recommend, cant wait to go back again!

Have been past this place for years but only visited for the first time recently. Spotlessly clean premises and excellent fish and chips. Visited on a lunchtime where there was a great deal on fish and chips with free mushy peas or curry sauce. Can eat on tables outside or superbly packed for takeaway. I will visit again for sure.

Myself, wife and two kids made the trip out from the Benson area as we heard The Plaice did great fish and chips. It was well worth the drive and we were not disappointed. Large Haddock was really nice fresh taste and crispy tasty batter. Chips were perfect and portions generous. Cod, battered sausage and Southern fried chicken strips all really good. Very very clean premises and nice friendly and polite staff. Even brought the food out to our car where we were waiting in one of the shop reserved parking spaces. Best fish and chips we’ve tasted in the area.

Extremely good cod and chips. The cod was fresh and the batter crisp and not all greasy. Most importantly, there was the gap between the batter and the fish; a sure sign these guys know to deep fry properly. The chips were also excellent.I took advantage of the Monday offer of fish and chips with either curry sauce or mushy peas for a very reasonable £4.99. Great value and a good size portion. Highly recommended.

Since it was taken over from when it opened its been great . Fish is good with lovely crispy batter .

There was so much salt on the chips that they were completely inedible. This is not the first time that the chips have had so much salt on that they’ve been inedible and I feel a change needs to occur. I wonder if you have considered using a different salt shaker with a reduction in the number of holes or taped holes or maybe further employee training to reduce the duration salt is shaken over the chips. Not only does too much salt make them inedible but there are significant health implications from too much salt for those with kidney issues, children and those at risk of cardiovascular disease. I feel we should all be doing our bit to help but for me personally I want want edible chips!

The Plaice in Woodcote serve generous helpings of fish and chips. They are usually well cooked and not greasy. I like the staff, who are always helpful. the only issue I have is that they are a little over priced. Perhaps they could look at the pricing of their local competitors and price themselves accordingly.

Really good crispy fish tasty chips but a bit soft. Had to wait awhile probably 5 to 10 minutes but it was very early in the evening. Lots of it and very filling lovely

I took my son the The Plaice last night, for our first in a long time plate of Cod n Chips. Both being a little peckish we ordered large cod and large chips each. Not initially having looked at the price list (doh!) I was a little taken aback by the price (£19.80 I think). A little more than I anticipated, but to be fair I could have added up the totals myself if I'd been that worried about it. After a not unduly long wait (the cod cooked whilst we waited) they turned up... Blimey! The portion was massive! Basically the two meals together filled over half of a carrier bag. When we got home to dish them up, the chip mountain filled the plate, leaving no room for the foot long piece of fish to accompany it. So, not cheap, but you good a highly impressive amount of well cooked, good quality food. I've seen some other reviews which commented on the level of service. In my experience however the service was friendly, pleasant and efficient.

One of the few chip shops I have to stop at if driving past. Large fresh cods. Of the few places I've found outside Scotland that does curry deep fried + battered spring rolls and love them.

As a Trader and someone who loves fish and chips on a biweekly basis I was shocked to find that these boys have taken the flavour just to that next level. Fish big fat juicy amazing batter something in it don't know what it is but it is something special. Chips big chunky soft. Curry sauce really nice especially with a squeeze of lemon juice in it which you get with the fish. Big portions. Will see you again soon when I'm next in the area

I visited last Friday. I was staying with my Mother for the weekend and wanted fish and chips. Asked for recommendations on theWoodcote website and there were a few suggestions.I have to say they were the best cod and chips I have ever had fro a chip shop. Excellent quality. Huge portions. Shop clean with 5***** rating for hygiene. Cooked whist I waited.I would recommend. If I had anything negative to say was they were expensive compared to others but well worth it. You get what you pay for. Any there were certainly worth it.Thank you The Plaice.I will be back next time I am in thearea

Great quality, good service but I would use far more often if they did half portions, I am sure many pensioners or unwell people feel like me.

Last went in six months ago and found it very expensive. Home from work late tonight so thought I'd give it another go after six months of not going there. All I got was chips £1.90 and a curry sauce £1.90. Was going to have a spam fritter but it was also £1.90. Still really expensive. Usually get spam fritter and chips in shop near my work and it is 1.50 for fritter and £1.40 for chips so why is it still so expensive in Woodcote. It doesn't taste any better at all. It's gonna be another six months or even more this time before I go there again. Far too expensive for average quality.

When The Plaice opened it was really good, but since the new owners the prices have increased significantly and the food in not as good. The beef burger one of my kids had was such low quality. Also pretty poor service.

Went in tonight for first time in long while. Only had battered sausage and chips and it was over £5 which I thought very expensive compared to other fish and chip shops in area. Found it quite tasteless as well. Won't be going there again.

We had a leaflet come through the door so decided to pay a visit. The premises are very clean which impressed us and the staff friendly but the chips were not good and a little under cooked but the main problem is it’s just so expensive for fish and chips takeaway. We will stick with the one at Emmer Green which we think is better and better value.

Al entrar a la revuelta a las 6:30 en una noche de viernes la primera cosa que me impactó fue la falta de adultos. El "chef" parecía de unos 18 y, para ser justos, parecía excepcionalmente profesional y se esmeró en la preparación, organización y cocina. Sin embargo, 3 señoritas que sirve todo parecía de unos 15 años y no era muy bueno en lo que se pretende hacer. He oído pedir a alguien 'puedo ayudar? Pero ninguna de las chicas me miraron tan no estaba seguro de que estaban hablando hasta la chica hasta pedir de nuevo pero más ruidoso, pero ella todavía no se veía. . . Extraño! Pedí el bacalao y patatas fritas que aparecen todos los peces es frito a la orden que está bien, y valió la pena la espera ya que estaba delicioso. Las patatas fritas eran pobres y sin embargo creo que fue debido a la calidad de la patata y de la manera en que fueron cocinados. . . Su aspecto era marrón y no dorada y no sabe bien. De todos modos, volver a las chicas. . . . Uno me preguntó si quería sal y vinagre y respondí que sí. Sin embargo, en realidad la 3ª chica y envuelto de mi comida, ya que me enteré de que 5 minutos más tarde, no se había aplicado nada de sal y vinagre. No es difícil, mirar mujeres los clientes cuando les sirve, acto profesional detrás del mostrador y recordar añadir sal y vinagre. También me pareció que sobre 8 Libras era caro para regular porción de bacalao y patatas fritas. . . Si las patatas fritas y el servicio era tan bueno como el pescado que volvería.

The best place (please excuse the pun) for miles around. Everything is cooked to order, so it's not a quick in and out, but the wait is worth waiting for.

The mark of a good fish and chip business is, not least, the quality of its chips. Unfortunately on my first visit, the chips where a let down. Soggy, tasteless, furry on the inside - not the quality I was expecting for a £2 bag. Hope this improves.

Only just discovered this place. Superb fish and chips- a real surprise. They were obviously not using 2 week old cooking oil; everything tasted fresh (and the chips were the best I have tasted in a chip shop for a long while). This must be the best Fish and Chip shop for miles.

The service is just amazing and the building is very clean, let along the food always piping hot even when I have reached home, the atmosphere is very good nothing is too much of an effort them always like to chat and I have never had to wait to long for my food. But since I have moved Spain I have never tasted anything as good as THE PLAICE.. cant wait for November when I am back for a few weeks and I will certainly go and get my sausage and chips.

Unsurprisingly my fish and chips were cooked to perfection..... Surprisingly, this was still achieved despite our order being part of 120 suppers delivered to the village hall this Saturday evening.Amazing!!!!

Muy limpio, la comida era normal como en bien de comer, pero no el mejor patatas fritas. carteles pide para mantener a los niños fuera del equipo. Esta es la única tienda de chocolate que he estado en donde no haga que sus niños se sientan bienvenidos. De hecho, la sensación que me dio fue que no le gustan los niños. Sin duda no vamos a volver de prisa.
