Very helpful people. Great service. Asked for advice on their menu for vegan options and they were very happy to show me all I needed and turns out there was a lot for vegans :) will be back

Proper chippy with quality, freshly-made fish and chips served with a smile by hard-working proprietors who care about their customers experience. Clean as a whistle and fairly priced.

Neighbourhood fish bar. Huge chip portions. Fish OK but not standout good.

Just had a kabab and chips for £10. The meat was very dry and not what you would expect. I would recommend they take it off the menu

Ordered a medium cod and small chips. Cod filet was very thin (approx 1cm), with a disappointing, stodgy batter. Chips were good.

Verry poor indeed had fish & chips pretty sure there pulling them fish out the Thames gave me the 2 bob bits steer well clear

Over priced however good portion of chips! Fish was massively overpriced and not great! Very average food with a big price tag! Would visit again but just for chips!

Stopped off for a bite to eat on the way to Henley Town FC. I had small cod and a portion of chips. Had to wait 10 minutes for the fish to be cooked, and glad I did. The fish was pretty good. But the chips! They must have been sitting around for days. Tasteless and tough as old boots. Not a great experience.

Great little fish and chip shop with excellent, fresh food and friendly, accommodating owners. They ordered in Hake for us despite not stocking it previously. Much appreciated. Will return!

3 of us went there last night - loved it. The owner was super friendly. Lived in and around Henley for years and only just been in for the first time. We took our dinner to Echoes and washed with down with craft beer, a winning combination!

Just went and got myself fish and chips and it smells like bleach took it back and they saying there's nothing wrong with it very rude never going back here again no refund

Lovely fish and chip shop and highly recommend the curry sauce with chips … and they allow you to pay by card. Result as stopped car in traffic and jumped out to get some and happy daughter munching all the way through traffic 🥰

Called in for a take away supper and without doubt these were the best fish and chips that we have enjoyed for years. We are new to the area, somit was a delight to find and we shall certainly look forward to a return. The two guys behaind the counter were so friendly and my wife enjoyed talking to the one (who is Spanish) in Spanish, to practice her vocabulary. Highly recommended.

Sunday evening 1730. Not busy. Freshly cooked fish, chips, and battered sausage. Mushy peas and curry sauce. All really good...except the peas and they were too runny with few traces of peas. I suspect I was a bit unlucky, as the rest was fab.

7.30 on a Friday evening had a lovely piece of fish, 2 pies that's what the stars are for. Chicken was dry and chips were cold and looked and tasted like they were from lunchtime. Would not recommend not going there again

Prices are pretty steep. I wanted a child's sausage and chips and I asked for burger and chips, obviously didn't hear me when I asked for chips with my burger as I got home to find no chips.

They have just started to do chicken and Doner kebabs which are the best in town / so good and the fish and chips is again the best ! Highly recommend!

Found the shop unclean, the lady was coughing everywhere and I could hear her child in the background coughing too. The chips were cold. And fish so oily - Won't be going back!

We are from Grimsby 200 miles away we are staying in Henley on Thames for three weeks.Grimsby is famous for its fish.I frequented this fish and chip shop in Henley twice and the fish and chips were superb.The haddock was cooked just right nice and flaky and not too much batter and they only cook to order so as not to let the food dry out and go cold.we took them back to our motorhome where we were staying at the caravan and motorhome club site called Henley four oaks and enjoyed our Haddock and chips for tea.The proprietor and his wife were a lovely couple who were originally from Spain and they were very friendly and accomadating.we will visit them again soon when we are back down here again.

Fish is fabulous. Chips are a bit hit or miss on soggy v crispy. Cash only so you are warned!

End of the day, you can’t go wrong with fish and chips. However, I paid £15 for two bags of chips and 1 medium fish... with curry sauce. The price is very inflated and well... I would happily pay this in a restaurant but for a chippy? No covid safety, and people crowded in. I do not understand the cash only thing.... it’s 2021 and it just makes it seem dodgy!

Friendly , chips good . I ordered a burger with all the trimmings , like it is in there picture. So lettuce onions and tomatoes fully loaded and cheese and sauce . Opened mine and a stale hard bun and a piece of burger meat . Called up to ask about the rest of the ingredients, and then fobbed me off and then hung up.... not going back

Friendly owners but very nosy. the food was average. i prefer Kings road much better food and less nosy owner. just my personal opinion

This was the second fish and chip shop in Henley-on-Thames we tried and the best of the two. The fish was very fresh and nicely battered, chips were nice and crisp spam fritter was good, The Only One criticism was sausage in batter did seem quite oily. But easier to park than the first fish and chip shop we tried. The only other comment I would add was the chicken kebabs were unusual in respect they had a curry flavour to them as well but we're nice.

Nice fish, but the chips and vinegar wasn't that great. Also with the current Coronavirus situation. They couldn't accept cashless transactions.

Great tasty food, we had cod and sausage and chicken. All cooked to perfection. Chip portions are huge, 2 would have done 4 of us, 3 if someone v hungry. Good value too.

Not been here for at least two years... Due to the bad feed back going through the henley grape vine.... Tried and tested yesterday and it was better than expected....l had Cod and chips... Slightly overcooked for my liking... But the effort was there.... I will be going back ♥

Yep, this is the one I recommend in Henley. Fresh, well taken care of and really nice service.

Fish and chips cooked fresh, which means you have to wait 10 mins or so, but it is so worth it! Service with a smile and huge portions of chips, cooked perfectly - generously sized fish too. A bit pricey for a takeaway, but it's good quality (and in henley).

Rather greasy, flat looking fish. Maybe an oil change and fresh/better batter recipe is needed.

We really enjoyed our fish and chips. On hindsight would have had mushy peas as well. Surprised I found a convenient parking space. Plan B was sandwiches from the petrol station across the road.

Have tried several times since new owners and have been disappointed every time. We've had reheated chips, small portions and half filled cartons of mushy peas. Will not be going back again.

Very poor, very expensive and the food was over cooked, we will never return there.

Freshly cooked to order fish with huge portion of chips. Had 2 fish, 1 chips for 2 people. Nice crisp batter & not too greasy. Very good take away

Gone down hill since new management. "Large" chips were not large and reheats. Portion of curry sauce only enough for one person. Shame. We used to go regularly and tried several times since new management. Sometimes ok but too often very disapointing. Seems best place for fish and chips in Henley now is either a pub or weatherspoons now. Sad times

These were as bad as any we have had before.GREASY! Does the proprietor not realise that the fat has to be at the correct (high) temperature before putting fish and chips in to avoid being greasy? It is little wonder Smarts only gets a hygiene rating of 3.The manager/proprietor was wearing a dark body warmer which looked badly in need of a wash.I have never ever seen anyone behind the counter frying fish and chips in anything other than white smocks or jackets in over 60 years.To cap it all he picked up a pie with his bare hand holding the pastry top rather than the foil base!Ugh!

Very sorry to say, as nice as the people are that run Smarts now! not as fresh just very poor, It was so good now were to go as the other chip shops in Henley are even worse!

Food pretty overpriced, chips were undercooked, bread rolls were dry and the fish had bones in. Pretty greasy and soggy. Not the best fish and chips I have ever had, and wouldn't recommend it.

Very average and very expensive. Had to wait 25 minutes for food even though everything I ordered could be seen already cooked and available to serve. New customers coming in to the shop seemed to be served before those already waiting. Very poor organisation. Uses a mobile phone calculator to add up the bill which by my calculations was more than the advertised prices. Food was mediocre, very greasy and no salt and vinegar despite being asked and replying yes please several times. Lots of The paper was stuck to the chips and fish when we unwrapped and we've probably consumed some of that paper. We won't be returning but it wasn't terrible.

Nice chips and the scampi was too fishy but over all an ok meal....vinegar could be stronger! Nice people that work there and very fast service!
