Arrived as a last-minute reservation for a party of 8 for my Pa's birthday dinner. To say we were looked after would be an understatement - we felt welcomed immediately, the staff were impeccable and the food was absolutely delightful. Thank you so much for such a wonderful evening!

This is a charming old pub with low ceilings, good beers, tasty food and a bar billiards table which the landlord was more than happy to show us how to play. We had a brilliant evening. Thank you!

Disappointing experience. A large group arrived during our meal, consisting of screaming, semi-dressed children and indulgent parents who made no effort to calm them down. As the bar staff also made no effort to intervene, it made the possibility of a nice lunch impossible. Then, after being forced to move outside alongside other diners, the pub tried to force a service charge on to our bill. What absolute cheek!

Had the most horrible meal there everything cooked in fat oil or butter. My plate swam in butter and oil . It didn't I say on the menu what the food was cooked in wasn't asked if we had any Allergies. And when complaining to the chief he was very rude and unprofessional.

My wife's food was adequate but my crayfish tagliatelle was smothered in lemon and practically inedible. The waitress who collected our plates was not interested when I said I was not happy so we just left.

A traditional pub in a picturesque English village. Lots of interesting architecture but tall people may have a problem! It has a small beer garden with a layout that is somewhat...random! Has a food menu. Sandwiches were fine but nothing special. Other dishes feel a little pricey for what is proposed. Parking might be a problem.

My boy, 16, and I were pedaling King Alfred's Way and our day three lodging was the JB. Of our four accommodations on the trip, our room above the pub in Goring was the most comfy, well-appointed and just plain pleasant. Richard could not have been more gracious, chatting us up in the early evening, patiently showing us how to play bar billiards after supper then sending us off with good cheer the following morning. The rustic pub has charm to spare and the beer garden is a winner as well. (Do beware the black skittle on the billiards table as my son found out to his chagrin. Twice.)

Really great pub! I'd visited once before but failed to realise there is a bar billiards table and a pub garden (tbf it was middle of winter and pitch black when I arrived and we sat in the little room on the left which I had no reason to leave all evening). It's a really quirky building with little seating nooks as well as some larger spaces, but all divided into separate rooms so it is cosy rather than open and noisy. There was a good choice of beer and cider and all were well kept. We're excited to come back for a visit when the kitchen reopens!

We chose this pub for a family rendezvous and Sunday lunch on the basis of mostly glowing reviews written up to the end of August this year. We were aware that there had been a change of management since then, but trusted that the standards would be kept at a similar level. We were given a 2-page menu, but after selecting, it turned out that this being a Sunday, only the 4 roasts at the end of the page were available; nothing else on the menu. One of our number is a vegetarian and there was absolutely nothing on offer for him, nor any willingness to throw a salad together or something. So he had a "roast -- hold the meat" The other 3 meals were an interesting throwback to the cooking that gave British cuisine such a bad name in the '50s and '60': some small, gravy-soaked slices of pork or beef (chicken looked better) soft, soggy carrots and parsnips, a sulphurous mush that was once Brussels sprouts, and boiled potatoes -- but great roast potatoes -- where did they come from? We asked for a look at a dessert menu but were told we don't do dessert, but you can have an ice cream. I've never written a bad review before, normally preferring to say nothing if it can't be positive, but as there was such a take-it-or-leave it attitude and no apology even for maybe still getting their act together, I have to sound a word of warning to those reading earlier reviews. We were the only ones in the restaurant section when we arrived, so it wasn't as if we were were late or they were rushed off their feet. The Brakspears pints were excellent, so as a straight drinking pub, the place still works.

The worst pub lunch I've ever had. We had a reservation for Sunday lunch, when we arrived not only were the staff rude and dismissive but they had lost our reservation despite us calling to confirm that morning. On top of that they had run out of Sunday roast. I went for the fish and chips and was hugely disappointed to receive a plate of oven cooked frozen chips and a dry and greasy piece of overcooked fish. The service was poor, the staff rude and the food abysmal.

We're only staying one night, but the room is comfortable and clean. The pub is Olde Worlde and such a joy and a relief from the sanitised, bland modern pubs on offer. We've just eaten as well....... and can't fault the meals at all. My wife's curry was delicious and plentiful and words fail me in respect of the home made steak and stilton pie. In a nutshell it is THE BEST homemade pie I have ever had in my 63 years on this rock. Nothing but praise from us. I'm waiting with bated breath on my dessert order of Jam sponge pudding and custard!!

A good unfussy pub, traditional pub memorabilia on show. Popped in for a meal for two and the food service was very quick and hot, simple pub food served well and about right for the price. Traditional billiards table and plenty of nooks and crannies to hide in if you wish. The bar is kept separate from the restaurant and dogs are allowed in the bar. Brakespear on tap with a couple of guest ales on tap. For my tastes I'd say the Catherine Wheel up the road is slightly better, but there are a couple of locals in the bar to suggest many will enjoy this pub.

Cracking little pub with lots of character. The staff are very welcoming and they have a decent enough choice of drinks. We stayed for food on one of our visits. It is typical pub grub and good size portions too. I would return here again without hesitation. Well worth a visit if you are passing through. Not very good for those in wheelchairs as space is limited. However, I did see staff help a lady in with a wheelchair so it is possible but not really much room for more than one.
