Had a bad experience in the past and it must have been a 1 off, we've been twice since and the food and staff were absolutely fantastic, we're lucky to have the pub in the village.

Been here tonight for the 8 course tasting menu. Everything was absolutely delicious compliments to the chef. Lovely service all the waitresses were lovely. Was my first visit to the Talbot Inn will definitely come again.

We had the best food that I've had for such a long time. Everything was gorgeous especially the pineapple and rum upside down cake. Definitely recommend!

From the moment we walked in the door nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff, they were attentive without being overbearing. The food was absolutely wonderful with generous portions and everything we had was delicious. Thank you for a great experience.

We went to the talbot restaurant for the 8 course tasting menu, last night and had an amazing experience!! The food was as high a standard as any top restaurant in a big city. There was a great variety of dishes and we enjoyed them all. We decided to have the pairing wine option, which added to the experience. Tavy, the wine expert. Was extremely knowledgeable about all the wines and how they complemented the dishes. What made the evening so special were the staff. From the moment we walked into the restaurant we were looked after. All the waitresses were extremely professional and told us about each dish. I will definitely be returning!!

Only had drinks but will be back for food. It looked really nice. Really friendly atmosphere.

We had a fantastic meal here on Tuesday 23rd January. It was faultless, everything was great, the service and the atmosphere too. Very impressed with the food esp the upside down cake with run and pi eapple. Def come back

Xmas lunch for seven in the restaurant upstairs. Great food and service. Decent Nailmaker ales. Good experience. Been before. Will be going again. December 2022. We did go again! Another Xmas meal. Nine of us this time. Three different people . Some travelled a good distance to join us. Great Xmas lunch menu. Two courses £23. Quality food. Good service. Good real ales.

The Talbot is a beautifully presented, local pub offering home made food and tasty drinks..... their steak & ale pie with vegetables & potatoes of your choice - 2nd to NONE!! getting served at the bar can be trying as the pub does get busy...... but is worth the wait. Open fire in the bar and comfortable seating. I highly recommend The Talbot for hearty, local fayre 😊

Visited the upstairs restaurant for a Birthday meal with friends. Beautiful food (steaks were fabulous, treacle pudding gorgeous!) lovely atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff made for a perfect dining experience - thanks to all for making it such a great night out.

Lovely meal, great staff….looking forward to the next time. Food was great as always. We ended up sitting in the bar because I didn’t consider the fact that my wife was on crutches and it would be difficult to get upstairs to the restaurant. The staff were great and very understanding, we were able to enjoy the restaurant menu downstairs in the bar area. The staff are always super helpful, we also had a good laugh with the quiz after we ate. Lovely pub, good food and great staff.

We came to the Talbot after hearing a couple of recommendations from friends. We ate in the upstairs dining room, and the the food, atmosphere and service were all excellent. Highly recommend this place.

Ate in the pub with friends and had a very enjoyable meal. The steak pie was good as always and the service was great. The only little niggle was the fact that a couple had brought their dog in which was yapping and which didn’t seem to bother them but did us.

We booked a table for food on Christmas Eve months in advance for a birthday celebration. After booking one of our party had to have a serious operation leading to them being on crutches and unable to weight bear on one leg. I called to ask if we could sit on a downstairs table as they were unable to get upstairs, my number was taken and I was promised a call back. After a week of no response I emailed to ask the same question, again no response so after 4 days so I called again. This time I did receive a call back to say we could not sit downstairs to eat as these were walk in eating tables only, I explained the physical disability and was told we could not be accommodated. I did ask what happens when physically disabled people want to book a table and was told “we don’t really get disabled people here”. I feel this is a disgraceful response and am shocked the talbot management could not make a reasonable adjustment to accommodate a disability, and are also not putting a system in place not to discriminate the physically disabled people who want to book a table.

Visited my daughter that as just moved there and all I can say is wow the food was amazing and I will definitely be back ... I live 2 hours and 30 mins away but when I visit my daughter I will be returning

I meet with 2 friends at The Talbot every year for a pre Christmas meal. Last Friday evening we all ordered roast turkey dinner which was beautifully cooked and very tasty. Desserts afterwards were great too. Staff were friendly and service was good. Another very enjoyable evening at the Talbot Inn.

Went for Festive Christmas Dinner and I had Salmon and hazelnut cheesecake. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff. Homemade shortcake was lovely. Lovely setting and was not rushed at all. Compliments to everyone.

Came to talbot on Sunday and booked the 1776 restaurant. When first arrived everything was perfect, even had 2 bartenders serving me for 3 drinks!! Speedy service. However when we sat down it all went downhill, my self personally I only eat chicken, on the menu there was no chicken option. I saw the bar menu when we was downstairs and saw they did a chicken burger. So I asked the waiter if I could possibly order from the downstairs menu, he promptly said no. I couldn’t believe it, I asked for the manager. Asked him the same question and again he said it was their policy. ‘Policy’ what a joke. I was out with my partners family for the first time and didn’t want to make a scene so I let the manager go and ordered a vegetarian starter and portion of chips. Now question to the owner? There was 10 of us on this table and we spent £500 in the trip out with food and drinks. If I was with my family I promise all 10 of us would have walked out over bringing a chicken burger upstairs. Pathetic policy, pathetic service and most of all pathetic customer service. Will very gladly be not returning. Would highly recommend crown and anchor just up the road.

Wow wow wow! An absolute local gem. This restaurant/old village pub is perfect for family and friends visits. We moved to the area last year and it’s become our new local with us naturally taking all our family and friends! We recently experienced the tasting menu evening that they do on the last Friday of the month with the wine pairing. The staff were exceptional and the food phenomenal. Huge shout out to Josie. We have since recommended to it the rest of our family in Barnsley. It was the perfect occasion to celebrate a family meal with my parents who aren’t from the area. The vibe, atmosphere and decor are brilliant. In addition, we have spent many Sundays getting a roast dinner which are brilliant. We sometimes sit downstairs in the bar area when we have the dog and cannot fault the service or quality of food having experienced both. The downstairs pub area is lovely and cosy with the fire on. The dates and steaks night on a Thursday is more than worth the visit! I have also been on a Saturday lunch for their sandwiches and Saturday evening for drinks and it’s nice to see they have loyal staff members you recognise each time. If you need a go to for all occasions, attentive staff and excellent food in a hearty pub/restaurant this is your go to.

Quick service from ordering our food to it being brought to our table. The food was plentiful and very tasty. I was disappointed that the Lebanese Kebabs were no longer on the menu. The 20% off on Tuesdays was very welcome.

Me and my partner went for a meal and had arancini for starter, the mushroom pie and steak for our mains, and a dessert cocktail afterwards. All was absolutely lovely and great service, looking forward to going again.

Went for parent’s 60th wedding anniversary there was 16 of us. We had a table upstairs which was great with a cosy atmosphere. The meal was lovely and we all throughly enjoyed it. The staff were great and very attentive.

Lovely old pub in the centre of the village, lovely staff and a good selection of drinks. The food is excellent, if a little pricey. The pub is also very dog friendly which some may not see as a positive in a place serving food.

It's a really nice place to visit. The only thing. I went with my mother on sunday, she's not very good on her feet, waiting for an operation. It was really difficult for her getting in and out at the front and she wouldn't be able to get up and down the steps at the side. You'd think they'd make it easier access for people with limited mobility to get in and out.

Sad to say soup I ordered was not good taken back and either watered down or milk added to it was more a look of a curry sauce rather than carrot and coriander soup.

Had a lovely few nights here during our visit to Royston and Mapplewell. Service was excellent as was the food. It was so nice we went back three times including the Sunday for a beautiful roast dinner. Totally recommend this pub and worthy of far more than five stars!

Food in restaurant always very good and food from the bar menu is also very good if you just want a nice few drinks and a light meal off an afternoon. Real ale selections always good.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Pleasant upstairs dining area away from "the pub". Fairly quiet though for a Saturday evening. Found we were sat next to a radiator which was on despite it being July and 20+ degrees that evening. A decent selection of options on the menu from pie and chips at £15 to Chateaubriand £60 for two people. Disappointing they had run out of Diane sauce for the steak ( surely they could make their own)? Food was very well presented and portion size was good. Very pleased with my Jacobs ladder bbq short ribs. My partner wasn't overkeen on her lamb which was fatty and rather bland. All in all a pleasant visit and may well be worth a return visit.

We usually go to the z Talbot in winter as we live away now, do it was nice to sample the summer menu. We ate in the restaurant upstairs which is a lovely space although the music was inappropriate for Saturday evening being heavy rock...

Overall it’s always an enjoyable experience with good quality food! Recently (2023) the food prices have increased quite a lot but the portion sizes seem to have reduced! Either increase price and keep the portions the same or leave the price the same as a year ago if reducing portion sizes.

We went today to celebrate a birthday with family. We ordered from the Sunday lunch menu and it was delicious! I personally had two courses and it was definitely good value for money. The presentation of the food was fantastic, as was the service!

The 8 course taster menu at the end of the month was fabulous. It was well organised, service was impeccable. The food and selection of wines was very very good. The menu was original and modern. I wouldn’t normally choose mackerel but I loved it....
