Cannon Hall Garden Centre & Thyme Bistro in Barnsley

Really productive visit to the garden centre. Fantastic array of plants both inside and out. But most importantly fantastic service and a wealth of knowledge from a member of staff called Stuart. A credit to the business.

I’ve been a fair few times and the staff are usually very pleasant and go out of their way to help customers. Unfortunately that was not my experience today at all. I understand it is a stressful time but I was very concerned on this occasion where not one but two staff members were rude to me. Staff from the outside restaurant section and one from inside the shop. How I was spoken to and treat after being nothing but kind to them was unacceptable and I’m not in any rush to go back and spend any money there.

Want to thank the chef, waitresses and serving staff for such a pleasant experience. Went 24th December and had a very tasty Turkey dinner. It was DELICIOUS! The Turkey was succulent and the vegetables, (plenty of them) cooked to perfection. Five clean plates. Thank you. Worth every penny. Will be back. I can definitely recommend Thyme.

On the whole a good experience. Prices a little high but remains popular. Only one meal a disappointment. The meat and potato pie had v thick pastry and the gravy and red cabbage were over sweet. Bit of a shock as I am diabetic so better if this was made clear on menu. Not a choice I’ll make again. Spoke to waitress but v busy and she didn’t come back to me. Garden Centre still a treat.

Absolutely love it here. I often escape for a quiet coffee or stolen lunch minus the husband/children. The food is always of a high quality, service good and environment clean. This is local to me and I’m happy to play my part supporting local businesses. The shop has gorgeous homewares, good job my home isn’t bigger or I’d just be bankrupt buying items . Well done team it’s a joy to visit.

Beautiful, and a step up from typical garden centre/cafe meals. I go frequently and love to try new menu items, as well as sticking to my favourites. Some wonderful dishes, all elevated beyond expectations, for example the home made soup... each bowl I've had has been delicious. Topped with something nice, like Crispy onion or toasted almond and served with warm crusty bread that is to die for! Utterly delicious! Specials are changed daily. My husband had the dressed crab and loved it. Again, way beyond the typical food served in other local garden centres. They serve you quickly. I've never waited long for food which is essential when eating with kids. Staff are lovely, all friendly and hard working! We will keep on returning!

Not been for a while so called in for breakfast. Theres no doubt the setting is stunning but the breakfast was mediocre at best. I requested well done but the bacon had chewy rind fat still attached and was rather pale. The sausages (well this is what they were described as on the menu) were to be honest a disgrace. Couldnt even say they were chipolata they were too small. Two tiny poky sausages which didnt really taste of much. Not cheap at around 12.00. They defo need to up their game. Wouldnt order food again regardless of how nice setting is. Next time we fancy brekky away from home we will go yo KIN at Huddersfield. In a completely different league. Just want to mention staff are lovely but the middle aged woman on till could do with lessons in customer service!

Had lunch here quite a few times in the past but was very disappointed on recent visit. Prices have risen but quality has fallen. Ordered an omelette costing £10.95 and it was the size of a very small pancake and as thin with what was supposed to be a salad garnish. Sold as a main course, could just about be called a starter.

Excellent fathers brunch very busy had to wait but understandable food came out piping hot and with a smile one thing tell me about this place they can deal with the numbers coming into the cafe excellent food excellent service Try it you won’t believe the quality of the food and the service Ps 75 bike riders with be there next week

Went to the garden centre today. Got a £1 parking ticket in the carpark right in front of the garden centre which said on the ticket that we could get a refund at the garden centre for parking in the garden centre. Asked the staff about it and they were very loud and rude about it and refused to refund the pound as stated on the parking ticket. Could hear them shouting about us as we left. Contacted the company on Facebook immediately afterwards, and we were treated even worse, where a “manager” said that we must have parked there and gone somewhere else. What? There’s nothing else around there. Can’t remember the last time I was treated so poorly as a customer. They expect you to pay a pound to look in the shop and advertise false statements on their parking tickets. Would not recommend as there are many better and cheaper garden centres in the area with better, nicer staff.

Had lots of people telling us to try this garden centre so we did today me and 24 of my fellow cycling buddies we had work a hunger up Illy coffee is a nice surprise to see in a garden centre so 25 cappuccino later we had sausage and bacon sandwich’s witch I must say were the best we all had for long time so we had another 25 cappuccino’s and chocolate brownies All 25 of us were well satisfied with the quality of coffee and especially the sausage and bacon also must mention the service by the friendly staff . Can see why it was so busy quality shines through well done cannon hall garden centre we are all ready coming back with the full team of 74 riders 😰

We visit here a lot and usually happy with everything even though their prices are high for what you get! Today one of our party had a sausage sandwich, the sausages were awful and full of gristle, I asked the manager if they had changed supplier as the quality was so poor and the answer was yes they had so I added that it was so poor it had been left less than half eaten! The response was I’ll report it to chef. No would you like something else so not my idea of fair customer service.

Impressed, food good, service good, prices fair. Was busy when we visited but soon got a table. Good price range of food to suit all tastes. Coffee was very good. Highly recommended.

Called in the garden centre, then went to Thyme for a coffee. Nice friendly service and a good selection of cakes. Everywhere was spotlessly clean.

Good location for visiting Cannon Hall and the grounds. Good amount of area including covered patio with plenty of space. Staff are friendly and efficient. Good range of food on offer but coffees are quite expensive for the size
