Took my friend for lunch today. Very impressed. A lovely setting with a friendly, warm welcome. We chose fish, chips and minted mushy peas from the lunchtime menu. The food was hot, absolutely delicious and served on a warm plate. The choice of sweet is limited but the sticky toffee pudding and fruit crumble were both beautifully presented and again, delicious! The service was outstanding and the pricing is excellent value for money. Overall a lovely birthday celebration for my friend. I highly recommend the Crown and Anchor. We will definitely be back.

Used to regularly enjoy the pie nights here so thought we would try out the Sunday Lunch. We were a group of 4 adults and 2 young children. Staff were attentive, professional and efficient. Starters of calamari and chicken lollipops were okay but not amazing. Sunday lunches were really tasty, piping hot and nicely presented. There was a spilt drink/smashed glass incident mid-meal which staff were really good about - cleared up immediately and even replaced the pint of beer free of charge - a really lovely touch which was thoroughly appreciated. Great for a casual, reliable Sunday lunch.

As a group of 4 we had lunch today. My sister and I had a dish from the new menu, Belly pork served on a bed of pork cassoulet with green beans. What a fabulous meal! Our husbands had the chicken, leek and bacon pie and battered fish and chips. We finished with sticky toffee puds and a cheesecake . All the food was fabulous and the service was second to none. Well done Crown and Anchor!

If you want an average pub meal then this is the place for you. The menu is typically pub type & is very reasonable - nothing outstanding. There is a good choice of menu so there is plenty to choose from. There is an excellent variety of beers, lagers, ciders, cocktails available at the bar. In conclusion good selection of drinks but ordinary pub grub.

Called in mid Sunday afternoon for a bite to eat. Nice big beer garden at rear, plenty of seats and very dog friendly inside and out. We grabbed a table in the bar area with our dog. Both had the pies: steak & ale, chicken bacon & leek, with chips gravy & minted mushy peas. Very generous filling in the pies and tasty. Chips were a little too crispy a bit like “scraggy” ends you sometimes get at fish shop not chunky enough for me. We enjoyed the meal apart from below par chips and would try this pub again when in the area.

Really great food. Lots of choice and the flavours were amazing. Staff could have been more attentive and informative, they forgot one dish and didn’t tell us there was an hour wait on food so just didn’t take our order leaving us wondering how to actually order, as it was a first visit. They seemed very young tho so may be their first job. Wouldn’t affect us returning as the food was that good.

The chef needs to learn how to cook. Low quality budget ingredients, no seasoning, no taste, no flavours. Pesto tastes like water, cheesy mushroom balls taste nothing like cheese and mushroom but cardboard. Chicken supreme had a broken bone in it and again, zero flavours. Unfortunately, after supporting the Crown and Anchor for many years now, this has come to end. The staff are really letting the place down, there are a select few who really do go out of their way to provide good service, but the majority provide the absolute minimum basic service. It's a shame as the food is still great, but there's a real lack of professionalism and genuine customer service across the team now. A lot of the younger staff spend most of their time chatting and using work as their chance to socialise, not realising there is food waiting to go our, customers wanting to ask for the billor order more drinks etc... The last few times we've been in now over the last few months the service has been very slow and very poor and most of the waitresses don't have the basic customer service skills to address an issue when it's raised. We had one occasion where we visited in May, where there was a hair in a family members food. This meal was replaced however there was no mention of an apology from the waitress who took it away, she just handed her a menu and said you'll have to choose something else we've ran out of what you ordered. The meal was taken off the bill but again nobody actually came to speak to us to let us know this was the case, checked if everyone else's food was OK etc, there was just a general lack of service! This used to be the place I'd be more than happy to recommend to family and friends and take them for meals when they visited, but not anymore. It really is a shame to see if going downhill! From reading some of the other reviews I can see I'm not the only one who feels this way, I really hope that things change and we can get back to enjoying our once great local place to eat, drink and socialise!

It's a shame to write this, but I think the owners should know what their staff are doing with their investment. I'm very local to the Crown, so I'd love to use it (at the very least) weekly or bi-weekly. The trouble is that the service is bad around 3 out of every 5 times you go. It's always around the 4pm area I'd go on a weekday and the staff are just not trying or paying attention a large amount of the time. This isn't me picking a random time - this is a consistent thing that stretches over 12 months at least. I live in Barugh Green and we used to spend fortunes in the Crown on cocktails (the zombie being a favourite) and food, but over the years, the consistently bad service has got me to the point where I simply cannot go back. It wasn't long ago I said I wouldn't go in again because at least every other time you go, the service is poor. But, recently I've been trying to give it a go again and it's STILL exactly the same. The young staff members are just chatting like it's a social club and paying no attention to what is happening around them. Example - The last time we went I ordered a pint and a kids meal. We sat for 45 minutes before I had to go for a refund and leave. The place was dead and I know how long that kids meal takes because I've ordered it many times before. It had simply not been put through. These things happen (especially at The Crown it seems), but I was sat on a table a the viewing end of the bar. Not once did the chatting kids notice for a second 'oh yeah, that guy and his child have been sat there the best part of an hour and no food has come'. They didn't even look up from their social session. It's just pathetic and would be sacking behaviour if I owned the place. This isn't exclusive to the younger end. This is totally typical. I remember recently sitting with finished plates for a long time, wanting to order a desert, just watching the guy (styled brown hair - maybe early 30s) so the exact same thing. Desperately trying to make eye contact with someone in an empty pub and sat with cold leftovers in front of me. I just hope the owner cracks the whip because there's no reason a pub should be dead like that all the time during off peak hours and service like that will be a massive contributing factor.

Visited here as a large family group. All meals had to be preordered from the main menu. On arrival with my father in law who has poor mobility we noticed there are no disabled parking spaces and the car park was reasonably full so had to park a fair distance away from the entrance. Which is ok for us but not great for my father in law. He refuses to be dropped at the door due to principle but that’s a whole other story not for here. Entered to be greeted by front of house and shown to our table. Ordered drinks and once everyone was here food was brought out. Having heard lots of good things about the food here I had high expectations. Only to be very disappointed. My partner has the gammon which looked very over cooked for my liking. He does like his food well done compared to me but said even by his standards it was a little overcooked and dry. I had the house burger. The burger it self was lovely however the fries were just like crispy strips of nothing. Nice and crispy on the outside but air on the inside not even a glimpse of potato. So all in all a very disappointing visit. The staff are lovely and it has a good atmosphere but I won’t be returning.

Had a lovely meal today. I had the chicken roast and the portion of chicken is huge! My only criticism is that there isn’t enough vegetables on the plate for the amount of meat. Great food, fabulous friendly service, lovely place to lunch with friends- What a fantastic find! Having gotten together with close friends and families, we were a group of 10 (5 adults, 5 kids, 2 babies). We'd been out trampolining with all the children, and realising the trampoline cafe was closed, we found ourselves with no where to go for lunch. We found the Crown and Anchor with a quick online search. They were immediately able to help us. When we arrived, a table was already set and waiting for us. There was a roaring fire in the hearth, and the whole place had a honely, welcoming feel. We were seated at a comfy, roomy table with plenty of seats and more than enough spacing for the lot of us + prams, too. The staff were friendly from the moment we arrived- the kind of proffessional friendliness that puts you at ease. We ordered in leisurely time- we weren't rushed into anything and yet we werent left waiting, either. The waitress was more than happy to explain what came with what, tell us about daily specials, etc. Everything was smooth and relaxed. The drinks arrived promptly, again everything was great. When the food arrived, it was amazing! The portion sizes are generous but not to over the top- just right. I had the House Burger, which came with fries and pickle. The burger was cooked perfectly, and the brioch bun was done warm, soft and fresh. The childrens menu was again generously portioned and again, just right. The cost was very reasonable and probably less than we would have ended up paying out at the original cafe idea. We will definitely be back here for post-trampolining lunches- what a fabulous place for eating! Definitely recommend this gem of a pub for a nice relaxing lunch with friends.

Really lovely, polite, attentive staff. Fantastic ambient atmosphere. Well thought out decor. Amazing vibe. Unfortunately the food was a massive let down. It’s very very middle of the road food that is served on aesthetically pleasing plates and charged heavily for. Burger bun was stale and very salty meat. Could only eat half of it before feeling like I was going to have a heart attack. Starters were tasty but again, served on posh plates to try and justify paying over the odds for. Did mention it to our really accommodating waitress but I think she misunderstood the reasons why we couldn’t eat it. Venue and staff are 5* but like a lot of places now they serve mediocre food on posh plates and charge through the nose. Disappointing. Wouldn’t eat here again but would deffo pop in for a pint.

We booked for 7:30pm and arrived 10 minutes early, we were seated and waited for the menu. The servers first words to us after hello were We've no chicken or Vegitarian. The only meat my ex Vegitarian wife will eat is chicken, failing that she has the vegi option so there was nothing to eat. It also states in the small print of the memue that GF food is prepared in the same area as normal food. This means I couldn't eat anything for fear of cross contamination. This wasn't mentioned when we booked and I told them I was celiac.

Great anniversary meal. Georgia was a fantastic host, nothing was too much trouble. Great food and no rush. Lovely atmosphere and very relaxing.
