A quaint little pub with nice drinks BUT the food selection is poor & tastes at the best, average. Also, this (carvery) took ages to make/prepare. On a comparison, Whetherspoons is better as it has taste & has a lot more on the plate. On the good side, it was cheap

I went here for Sunday lunch. Great food and a nice sized portion of veg and meat. Beer was lovely too. Great atmosphere not overcrowded like some restaurants. Customer service was excellent too. Polite and friendly staff

Absolutely beautiful food. Never tasted roast potatoes as good. The turkey was so moist . You won’t leave the Ash hungry . Will definitely be going again.

Update 07/04/23 - new ownership since last visit. The changes inside have really opened the place up (getting rid of pool table helped). They could do with having more pub benches in the beer garden though, as quickly fill up. There's ample space for more though so could cater for significantly more people. This has got a huge beer garden, and is very popular. It also has an entrance from a walk you can do too. Wide selection of drinks on offer, and the food is great too. The one thing that let's it down is the staff aren't always attentative when you're sat outside. Having been a few times, they insist you order drinks and food at your table......but we've had to go in on several occasions......to ask them to come out and serve us!! Today, it was quieter, and they brought drinks out to the only other table that was occupied...but still ignored us, so had to go inside again to ask them to serve us!! I get its a changing way that pubs now have to operate, this this place could be amazing if they got that sorted better

My family and I went for a meal and drinks this evening at the ash inn. This was our 3rd visit since the refurbishment and reopening of the Pub. It was busy, buzzing and welcoming. We hadn’t booked but managed to find 2 tables adjacent to push together. There was an anniversary booking in the restaurant which made it busier than usual. Meals and drinks were ordered from a menu with multiple choices and service was fast and efficient. Our food was good and prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be returning and would recommend this pub to anyone wanting good pub food, drinks and friendly atmosphere. Thank you to all the attentive staff.

Really friendly staff but the food was really third rate and bland and certainly not worth the money. When producing a Steak meal it is essential to offer a selection of sauces for accompaniment. Never over kill the meal with chips that smell of old fat and never serve it up with frozen peas. And if you're going to cook a steak, cook it don't kill it! Like shoe leather!

Have been a regular at The Ash Inn for a long time. It’s had a refurb inside and now looks great spotless clean with 5* food hygiene rating. The new management Rob & Gina have done an amazing job. There’s a great range of drinks to pick from and an ever changing menu - the food also lovely and generous portions. Gone back to been what it’s always been a nice local and country pub where you can go have a good meal and a couple of drinks with friends and family.

Great improvements to the interior since it changed hands. Much more welcoming than before. All the best for the future guys.

Been a regular if this little pub for years. Even attending for Christmas fayre afternoons with a group of ten or more and the food has always been outstanding,and the place spotlessly clean. Due to covid we haven’t visited for a while but chose to book for Sunday Lunch yesterday. WHAT A HUGE MISTSKE. The place is filthy, the menus all ripped and unclean.The staff unkempt bragging about how much they had drank the night before and what time they finally left the pub and where they went to carry on drinking. Now the food, if that’s what you can call it. We ordered two roast beef dinners, burnt but uncooked doughy Yorkshire puddings, TOUGH beef you couldn’t cut, frozen vegetables not fresh which all were cold all swimming in gravy. When we were asked if everything was ok I expressed my concerns to be told she could replate it, which I declined both dinners were left, I went to pay at the bar and was charged £26.80 for two dinners and two drinks. No wonder there was only 2 tables of people eating. There’s a sign above the bar saying no one gets out sober. This sums the whole place up. No one interested in the customers or care of the pub only a drinking ole. I have posted this review as my review I left on Facebook hasn’t been acknowledged just removed. On the bottom of the menu it asks to leave a review. Personally after years in hospitality I would be ashamed to be associated with this establishment now

We had a meal and I will not be retuning, the meal was poor quality, and cold, the childrens meals were a chicargo town pizza and frozen chips at a cost of nearly £7. The cuttelry was dirty. I ordered a soft drink which was poured from a bottle not on pump and was flat. The bar staff were drinking behind the bar, the chef came out of the kitchen and was smoking an e-cigarette and then returned back to the kitchen. The bathrooms were dirty. Use to be a nice little pub but it’s gone down hill

We came for lunch and noticed the 1 star reviews only after we sat down but thought we would give it a chance, glad we did as it was lovely food! There was plenty of food and service was prompt, I would come again.

If you like a good pub with good food at good prices n a good atmosphere, this is the place for you

Looked gorgeous from outside, walked in and it stunk of dogs, order 3 cokes and he began to pour it from a 2 litre bottle that he was drinking only to say oops isn't enough for 3. Put me pff straight away, sat down in the dingy room where the dogs were them before we ordered food had to leave than God. Bar staff looked scruffy and behind be bar was a tip so wouldn't have eaten a thing anyways. Goes to show you definitely shouldn't judge a pub by its outside. Will not be back ever.

Moved to the Wombwell area a while ago and often drive past this pub thinking it looks like a great country pub. However very disappointed when visited for a meal - scruffy, hardly any drinks stocked in the fridge and smelt greasy. Didn't stop for the meal

We came today after another restaurant we were going to visit wasn’t serving food. They could accommodate us, and the service was friendly and welcoming. What I liked is that that the food is all freshly cooked to order and was piping hot. I came with my husband and 3 year old daughter, and 10 month old son. Whist there were highchairs available, there were no children’s menus. Not a massive problem considering it is very reasonably priced, but perhaps something to think about in the future. I would return, the beer garden looks nice and prices are great. An overall pleasing visit, thank you.

It wasn’t very good I’m afraid. Had some lovely meals here in the past too. Had Sunday lunch. Beef very tough. Mashed potatoes tasted like they were powdered. Pub itself looks scruffy/ dirty/ staff uniform covered in food debris One of the kitchen staff came out of the kitchen vaping. Needs a shake up and a clean in there to restore it to its former glory.

I have written 2 previous reviews on the Ash and they were singing its praises but not this one. We were a group booking for Sunday lunch and all I can say about it is not one person enjoyed the experience, the food was cool. bland mostly frozen rather than fresh produce. The staff were overworked and spread to thinly therefore the service was left lacking to say the ;least. How a place can change when new management takes over, do not take any notice of the out of date photos, theu are from better days.

Great food all home made. Mince and onion pie was sublime with delicious gravy. I would recommend for a stop off for lunch. Plenty of parking space

Great Pub lovely location for bike rides shame they stop doing food in the afternoon until 5pm on a Saturday. if you come on Sunday you can only have Sunday Dinner and that is it. a bit of a joke. when there is 5 members of staff and no one eating

Very disappointed in service and quality of food Visited last Sunday for a Submnday lunch with 3 quests . When the meal was served it looked fine but I noticed all diners where leaving their Yorkshire puddings .....which where very large and looked amazing ...... This was due to the fact that when u cut into it it was uncoked and resembled a thick slice of stodge UNEDIBLE ......all other diners I noticed leaving theirs ... Also ......my roast pork had PORK SCRATHINS sprinkled on top , instead of crackling . WOW .....thats a first . The stuffing was undercooked and mash potatoes was like wall paper paste . I was asked at end of meal , if everything was OK..... We had already decided to not complain , but due to being asked, I made my concerns known, To which , was not received well by staff . Will not be returning. Falls well below standards of acceptance,

My wife and I decided to visit The Ash Inn for an evening meal, as we have done many times in the past. I understand the Pib has been closed for some time , while the owners found a new manager / staff to run the pub. We arrived at approx 6-50 pm and ordered drinks at our table. Shortly afterwards I decided on the Roast Pork sandwich with stuffing and chips, and my wife,on the Beef Brisket sandwick and chips. This finally arrived at 8-30 pm, nearly 1 hour and 40 minutes later || My Roast Pork sandwich consisted of 1 very doughy white bread roll containing 2 very thin pieces of meat and appro half a pound of stuffing to bulk it out, My wife's Brisket sandwich contained a large lump of gristle. Both " dishes " were accompanied with chips, Not the homemade ones that they used to serve, I feel that the staff that run the pub now have no idea of customer care, Sadly the good old days at the Ash have gone, never to return,

Food was terrible asked for steak medium and was undercooked and it was served with the worst peppercorn sauce I've ever tasted

Went here without booking on Saturday early evening and managed to get seated easily. Thoroughly enjoyed our food. There were 3 of us, 2 adults and a child. Childs portions were ample, and all the food was well served to a very good standard.Dessert menu was a little lacking, unlike the portion sizes which beat us!

The food here is traditional pub grub, the difference is its cooked very well and full of flavour. Not once did i here the microwave 'ding'. I organised a party of 50 people and not one person complained, even our gluten free colleague was accomodated for.The staff worked hard organising all our food at the same time while keeping the drinks flowing,,,well done everyone.

and we came across this pub while driving by on our way to another favourite pub and took the number for a later date we had friends the following week to stay so booked a table at the ash the meal was perfect and the prices reasonable it was a saturday night and busy they also had a quiz later in the evening which we stayed for a good night was had by all we will definately be going again

It's over ten years since I dined here & it certainly will not be as long again. The pub itself has a goodly sized car park & is a well appointed building. The pub is both clean & comfortable. The selection of drinks is adequate. The real selling point is the staff, they are friendly efficient & accommodating. Sunday lunch had six different vegetables & had an additional gravy boat, which a lot of pubs don't offer. The price was reasonable. All in all a very good place for Sunday lunch.

We were a group booking of over 10 and this was our 3rd visit for Sunday lunch in the last 18 months. It was again a very nice meal, the food is piping hot, tasty and fresh. The staff are always helpful and we will be going again next Spring.

The Ash Inn is nicely presented with very helpful and friendly staff. Our meal was freshly cooked and tasted delicious, the facilities we're very clean, the only minor point and my opinion is some food is over priced. I would definitely go there again.

The ash inn is definitely worth a visit; as soon you enter the establishment you are greeted with a warm welcome & plenty of smiles! A wide selection of drafts and I must say a lovely Gin selection! We were a large party & did a pre order! Although we decided to be awkward “ every restaurants PET HATE” yet nothing was too much trouble from the two young ladies who I must say were fantastic throughout! The chicken soup is A MUST HAVE! I was surprised it was homemade it was faultless and I can’t wait to return.... The gravy is a winner!! I didn’t order the Yorkshire starter, but did try my uncles gravy... WOW! It’s a shame the weather has dropped as the back garden area would be a lovely ey spot for when summers hits! I would love to come again and so I shall be! Well done for not only amazing service & food, but for clearly treating your staff well; which was shown through the staff morale on my visit.
