I attended the restaurant at 12:30 during Newmarket Open Weekend and visiting the Museum for the first time. I didn’t know this place was there, we had an hour to spare and it was lunchtime so we were happy to find anything that was serving food. There is a beer garden which had lots of what appeared like free tables so we started hovering around one when the manager came and asked in an impatient tone “can he help us” to which I replied “yeah we were hoping to have some food” and I smiled apologetically. “Do we have a RESERVATION?” I said no we don’t, we didn’t know we needed one. “On a sunny day on a Saturday of course you would need a reservation!” He said it so patronisingly I almost felt like crying, he then commanded us to come with him inside where people “without reservations sit”. I kid you not, that’s what he said. The menu wasn’t crazy sophisticated, large plates consisted of 4 types of burgers, salads and a steak. The burgers were tasty though. I don’t remember feeling so humiliated by a restaurant staff ever in my life. I understand that sometimes you need a reservation but that could’ve been done with a smile on a face and much more respectfully. I can’t say I’d recommend this place with that manager there, he was just awful.

Came here with a friend and my hubby for lunch. We had booked a table inside but it was such a beautiful day that we asked to be seated outside...no problem! What can I say about this place except wow! The food and atmosphere is standout. Lots of people ... so clearly a popular place to have food...and when the food came I could see why. I flip flopped between the flatbreads (all sounded lovely), but went for the chicken (hubster went for steak). It was so good...but what was equally good was the side salad. Really tasty and lots of care paid...and it showed. I will 100% be back...we talked about it being a great venue for a girly lunch, but also talked about taking my 80 year old pa there and a quick walk round the museum. Looking forward to my next visit.

Last Saturday we had the privilege of a second-to-none dining and wine pairing experience. Paul Winchester, the owner, and Rob from Corney and Barrow pulled off a mean feat combining wines with each of the melt-in-your-mouth five-courses (six, including the amuse bouche). Champion of champions mein host Paul, and his team of attentive and charming servers (special mention to Adonis Giogros) did the chefs' Michelin-standard dishes proud. Corney and Barrow of Newmarket's Rob, a self-confessed wine geek, provided valuable insight on the wines, patiently taking time out at each table. Our table had a perfect view of the National Horseracing Museum's retired racehorses quizzically poking their heads out of their boxes simply added to the magic. Worth the trip up from London. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

I recently hosted my anniversary event at The Tack Room in Newmarket and I couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. From the moment we arrived, Paul the owner and his team went above and beyond to ensure that every detail was taken care of. The venue itself is charming and beautifully decorated, creating the perfect ambiance for our celebration. The food was absolutely delicious, with a variety of options to suit all tastes. The service was impeccable, with the staff being attentive and friendly throughout the evening. Paul personally checked in on us multiple times to make sure everything was to our liking, which truly made us feel like valued guests. Overall, I highly recommend The Tack Room from Brunch, lunch & dinner or hosting a special event or celebration. The combination of fantastic food, excellent service, and a lovely venue make it a top choice in Newmarket. Thank you to Paul and his team for making our anniversary celebration truly memorable.

My first visit to The Tack Room for 4 or 5 years and it didn't disappoint. Lunch with friends we had booked a table and we were lucky on a beautiful warm and sunny Saturday lunchtime to sit outside in the courtyard under the parasols in the shade. We all had a main course and the food was very good. 3 of us had a burger (1 halloumi and 2 chicken burgers) and one of our party had the open smoked salmon sandwich. The herby skinny fries were fabulous! We all enjoyed our food choices. The waiting staff were very attentive without being too much and we had a lovely chat with the owner/manager. We were very well looked after and really enjoyed our time and it definitely won't be our last visit!

A pleasant brunch spot, with views of the national horse racing museum and their horses. The food is a good standard, I appreciated the use of streaky bacon over back bacon, it was thick and crisp. The eggs Benedict or royale have a crumpet opposed to an English muffin which is an interesting take and the English breakfast looked wonderful. The coffee was pleasant, the staff were nice, it is edging on the more expensive side and the menu isn't winning any prizes for creativity, it is very standard fare.

Went for a horrible breakfast here. I had eggs benedict which was shocking. The rashers were cheap and undercooked. The hollandaise sauce was obviously from a packet and it was on a lifeless crumpet which wasn't toasted properly. They messed up our bill then which took several minutes to sort out and they still overcharged us. They also had the cheek to add on a service charge of 10%. That's a tip for breakfast now..... Seems like a new low point in rip off Britain to me.

Very nice food and drinks. We hadn’t booked and looked at a few tables outside that didn’t have reserved signs on them but we were told by the gentleman they were all booked. We were offered a table inside we we took. A little while later a couple of people walked in and greeted the gentleman and it was obvious they new each other by the exchange in conversation. One female said a friend who hadn’t arrived yet had booked a table. When the man checked he said sorry but she hasn’t. He then assured them it wasn’t a problem and he would sort them out. He led them straight outside to one of the unreserved tables and sat them down! Would have given 5* but couldn’t after this.

So it’s changed hands, and the quality In every respect has gone down. I ordered a Caesar salad and I swear they just opened a packet from Tesco and added an egg! The tasteless dressing, a bit of iceberg lettuce and. pre packaged croutons. Shocking....

Recently visited for breakfast. Food was great. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. The place is nice. And as we have a 11 month old daughter they were very family friendly which is important. Nothing was too much trouble and they even made her some...

We’ve eaten here lots over the years hit the food (and service) has never been so good. Special mention to ANIA who served us - she is an absolute star ⭐️ Also to the chef - food was really very nice! Nicest we’ve ever had here !!

A memorable stay in a hotel with a unique history, once owned by the King of England. It’s come a long way since James I walked its halls—he wouldn’t have had the pleasure of the comfortable beds and room temperature control. Nor would he have been able to savor the delicious hotel menu or enjoy the fancy cocktails. He would certainly be proud that it’s now in the hands of Manager Ruth and her team, who make your stay exceptional with their warm welcomes and constant attention to detail. Overall, it's a 10 out of 10 from me for this wonderful hotel in a beautiful and fascinating part of the country.

My wife and I sometimes come here for lunch on Sunday or occasionally stop for dinner. The buffets (both cavery & chinese) offer a good selection and are well stocked. One of out favourite local eateries.

An excellent Fish and Chips! There is a huge variety of food! The prices are correct and you can pay by credit card! I ate on site (there are several tables). The guys were very friendly and we had a nice chat. The food was very good! Highly recommended!
