Absolutely fantastic, we booked a table for 9 persons. We ordered mostly steak and ale pie and some burguers, all the food came right on time, really well prepared and definetly homemade. So I will really recommend visit this place, also the guys that are running are quite kind.

It's not very big, quite small actually but with the log fire it makes for a great atmosphere. On Sundays there's no menu as we found out, it's roast beef or chicken with all the trimmings and lovely food it was. Recommended.

Visiting our daughter in the Peak District, stopped off for a drink at the sycamore pub on route to the lights of Abraham, ended up having the best Steak and Ale pie I think I’ve ever had, sooooo good. Wonderful hospitality, very cosy with a roaring fire in the wood burning stove. I was a little disappointed when I saw the signature Sycamore Pie, it looked on the small side, the disappoint didn't last long, the pie was very deep and possibly as good as any pie I have eaten (and I have eaten quite a few!). The other half had a burger, home made from local produce, apparently it was as good as the pie. I say apparently because I never got a look in

Called in at the Sycamore with my wife last Thursday. It's our kind of pub a good old fashioned local. We were made welcome by both landlord and landlady, as well as the locals. We chose from the pie menu, steak and ale for me and homity pie for my wife both were delicious. Draught Bass and Timothy Taylor's Landlord, what a choice, it would have been rude not to try both. We will be back next time we visit Matlock.

On a weekend visit to Matlock saw this pub on Tripadvisor and went to see it before booking. The landlord was extremely friendly and we felt very comfortable in booking a table for 2. We ordered the pies which are homemade and what the pub is known for. I can honestly say it was the best pie I have ever had in or outside a pub. The filling was fabulous and so was the pie crust. After not being able to find a menu online, we called to ask what meals they do and was greeted by a very rude man who refused to tell us apart from pies, chicken and other bits and bobs! (he said he had taken the menu off the website a few months ago!) He then proceeded to tell us he didn’t want to talk to us as we were “doing his head in” and to find somewhere else! We had 2 pts of Timmy Taylor and a pint of coke. The landlord and his partner were very pleasant people who could not do enough for you. We all had homemade pies with chips and peas and seriously good gravy, nice to have plenty of gravy with your meal, we had 1 steak and ale and 2 steak and stilton pies, well these were "proper pies" no puddings for us after eating these! Sometime you go into a pub and feel an instant connection - the sycamore is such a place. It's a bit out of the way so probably more of a 'locals' pub, but even though we were visitors we had a great welcome, warm and friendly. The look of the pub interior is a bit retro, but all the better for it, bringing back so many memories of pub visits with family when I was a nipper! The Sunday roast is something else, huge portions and very tasty, they definitely came through on our special request for 'excellent roasties'! All in all a wonderful visit, could have stayed for longer but had to walk off the food on the way back down into town!

Stellar spot in Matlock for home-cooked vittles and finely drawn ales. True Northern British hospitality, they welcomed in my little American family with warmth, making us feel right at home. Everything a pub, inn, & restaurant could aspire to; I was proud of the chance to show my girls the finer points of British pub-culture with this cozy den! Andrew proved attentive and charming as he secured us dining and drafts even at an hour well past the kitchen’s retirement. Can’t say enough about this place. This is a small pub used by locals and could probably benefit from a coat of paint but please don’t let that put you off. The hosts were very welcoming, the chef would not be out of place in a high class restaurant, his homemade food, especially the steak and ale pie, full of chunks of quality beef, was so tasty, it did not disappoint and the gravy…was to die for.
