We were staying in Litton for a long weekend and visited the Red Lion twice during our stay. The food was absolutely delicious on both occasions and service was fantastic. The pub is super dog friendly, our two dogs got lots of attention and a treat or two!

Really lovely atmosphere and welcome at this village pub. We dropped in for lunch as we were walking in the area. The service was excellent and food delicious. I had the Thai veg curry which was beautiful and the other two people had beefburgers. It was a 5 out of 5 for me and those I was with enjoyed their excellent burgers.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had. The Red Lion hosted me and 25 friends on a Saturday night and the service was faultless. Every person was blown away by the high quality fresh food - nothing frozen and all homemade! I couldn’t rate this place any higher. Amazing.

Friendly welcome. It is a small and compact pub and, given it's dog friendly, quite a tight squeeze depending on the size of your dog. We waited at the bar to be seated and then realised a waitress had been stood next to us the whole time. Menu was labelled for gluten free. Burger bun was good for gluten free, but portions were small considering the price. We had to go to the bar twice to order drinks, so whilst friendly the service wasn't overly attentive. It was a nice enough country pub in a lovely village with good enough food, but we've definitely been in better.

Perfect experience from start to finish. Amazing food, great friendly staff, and a great choice of drinks too. Roast beef was perfectly cooked with amazing mash, roasts, gravy, and veg. We had a cajun chicken starter, which was amazing, and then after our roast dinner, we tried the lemon cheesecake ( fab!) and Bakewell pudding ( amazing)

Lovely pub. Really nice local. Staff super friendly and helpful. Atmosphere great, as a guest of the Peak District, fantastic to go into a place where it's full of locals all chatting to each other about their days. The food was brilliant, so much so that we will be back on Sunday for the roast. Landlord Thomas, absolute gent and very accommodating. Well worth a visit.

So I've decided to change my original review. NEW OWNERS, they have completely refreshed the attitude & atmosphere. We went to their 'October Fest' in the village green, fantastic night, great food & entertainment. The new owners got involved with everything & really made an effort to mingle with the customers and spread a happy good feeling throughout. I genuinely wish Kristina & Tomas every success in the future... Don't miss it, be sure to call & enjoy

This is an ancient pub set in an attractive village which has managed to keep its shop-cum-post office. After an unfortunate experience with a thieving Labrador many years ago, we somehow never got round to visiting the Red Lion again until the other day - and we were glad we did. Muzak was tolerable, general ambience very pleasant, and the meals excellent. We approved of the unusual approach to something as ordinary as Homity Pie. We shan't leave it so long before our next visit!

Despite the change in ownership, and the minor changes in the menu (to upset the dyed in the wool clientele) this remains, by far, the best pub for miles around. The steak pie, the quality of which cannot be over exaggerated, is superb. Five cask ales to choose from, the Abbeydale Absolution being very moreish, despite my best efforts at moderation. Very friendly principals and staff, nothing being to much trouble. Dog friendly, as opposed to dog tolerant. The archetypal English pub.

Charming lunch pub. Regularly pop here for a late lunch. Quaint, charming and full of character. Their ham baguette is simple and simply delicious. Taken over recently by new ownership. Got chatting to Katrina…. She is the hostess with the mostess and takes pride in her business. Cosy seats, log fires, beams and tradition. Only ever been for lunch but itching to have a proper cosy pub meal! Real country pub.

I love The Red Lion and usually come a few times a year but today was disappointing. I understand they have a new menu but was very sad to see so many of the dishes we’d previously enjoyed not now featuring. No shepherds pie, none of the traditional home made desserts like bread and butter pud or crumble or lemon meringue, for which this pub used to be so well known. I chose the steak pie which I used to always love but today it was lukewarm. If it had not been available I’d have struggled as the menu felt v short on the previous good quality, home made classics.

Beautiful place, lovely friendly welcome and the food is 100% all fresh and home cooked at a very good price. A party of six of us visited for food and to show international students a traditional english pub with good food. Needless to say we were not disappointed, the girls ate and enjoyed all of their food! (Daube of beef, pork belly, gammon x2, shepherds pie and a burger) not forgetting the puddings too! The chefs are clearly very well established with a great menu "pub food" but restaurant quality. The place has a lovely friendly feel to it and customers are made to feel very welcome. A country pub fit for anyone, dogs too! I would highly recommend, you give it a try, you will not be dissapointed.

This is a traditional country pub, old oak beams and real ale. Walkers in the Derbyshire dales call frequently. It's cosy, and if you are looking for a bite to eat, then you won't find a better presented plate of food, cooked to perfection, we had a lovely starter and roast loin of pork with a homecooked Yorkshire pudding, gravy and beautiful roast potatoes.. I sm advised their sticky toffee pudding to finish with is just sublime. However, today, we were so full from starters and mains we gave regrettably passed on the sweets.. service was excellent, and the waiter could not be more helpful and attentative to all we required. Very enjoyable visit..

Read if you have young children. I’m sad as was really looking forward to visiting this pub after passing on a bike ride. There is a sign outside welcoming muddy boots and paws. I was disappointed therefore to find a sign on the door proclaiming no children under 6 allowed. We therefore didn’t venture in as we obviously were not welcome with our 4 year old but two things struck me - the business must be booming when they can turn away people with small children - how on earth can dirty dogs be allowed and not people. 🤷♂️

We visited the Red Lion today after a long walk. We didn’t know food wasn’t served in the bar but the lovely lady behind the bar managed to squeeze us into a table in the dining area. When our greyhound took up too much room I decided to bring him back to the bar so he could lay down, fully expecting that I wouldn’t be able to have food. The lovely lady behind the bar instead said I could order food and was extremely understanding, making a point of coming over to give our dog some treats and have a chat with me. I had some chips which were extremely tasty and my friends had a roast, fish and chips and gammon which they all said was lovely. The pub had a great atmosphere with lots of different dogs and people were friendly and chatty. Would definitely visit again if in the area - thank you so much for your understanding!
