The Swynnerton Arms in Stafford

Haven’t been here for years but called in on Friday night. We’d looked a recent reviews and some didn’t sound great, but we decided to try it. We didn’t have the set two course offer as they looked abit too basic, but opted for £15ish main courses. Thai chicken curry, sea bass, beef bourgineon, and the pan fried chicken were all decent portion and well presented. Decent quality food. Staff were pleasant enough too. Our only minus was the upholstery which was ripped and had taped repairs. I know management is newish so hopefully repairs are being planned, but this lets the place down. Otherwise decor is nice. We will call again.

Under new management, the team was so friendly and was always on hand if anything was needed, great choice of drinks on the bar and the food was lovely will go again! Decor was nice and toilets kept clean

Often visit for lunch & its usually ok. However today was very disappointing & I doubt we'll return any time soon. Firstly I opened my menu & it had a hair inside. 2 out of 3 meals were barely luke warm. The pub was freezing cold. The seat was ripped & uncomfortable. As we left the chef was stood smoking in the customer exit of the pub, with his uniform on, which doesn't set a very good standard or impression.

Fantastic food very welcoming lovely atmosphere couldn't fault it we hadn't been there for 18 months we wil definitely go back

Haven’t visited the Swynnerton Arms for a while,so glad that we decided to re visit today. Good choice of menu food was of a high quality and was nicely presented and served by professional and pleasant staff Will certainly be visiting again

I have eaten here many times , and always enjoyed both my meal and the atmosphere . However, I believe it is under new management with a new menu , which I experienced last night. We had pre ordered some of the meals as there were14 of us, but asked to make a change to two of them and were told that it wasn’t possible as they were already being cooked .. this is before we had even had starters and it was only lasagne we wanted to swap from to gammon . I also asked if we could have two separate tabs as two families , again it was not possible. Starters came (minus one) that came after we had all finished ours . The food was adequate, but wasn’t as freshly cooked or as hot as it could have been. But overall we were satisfied. My main issue was the drinks and the pricing. I cannot believe that my half a draft cider was the same price as half a lemonade (£2.75) and a toddlers fruit Shoot was more expensive costing £3.05. How is this justified ? I know that it’s the drinks that make the money but I find these prices , along with the rest of the party have put us off returning .

Just home from The Swynnerton Arms utterly replete and ready to lavish praise on this establishment. We booked a table for five, and went for the full three courses. The starters were very encouraging. Personally I went for the corned beef bon bons. How novel, I have never seen anything like these on any other menu, and they were superb. The Branston Pickle and salad accompanying these really worked. All the mains, ranging from rump steak to the Swynnerton Burger were perfect, and those chips!!!!! It is worth booking in here just for the taste of perfect chips as your nan used to cook. And then the desserts, just wow!!! I personally went for the chocolate and orange cake, which was superb. All in all a fabulous meal, and yes, we shall be back soon.

It's been a while since we visited The Swynnie so didn't really know what to expect. Well, were we ever pleasantly surprised - not only at the choice on the menu but also the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the staff. Service with a smile at all times. The place is obviously very popular as people kept arriving while we were there and when we left all the tables were taken. The highlight of an excellent meal were the home cooked chips, which were every bit as good as any we've ever tasted. Highly recommend and it won't be long before we return !!

Disappointed in food. Chose pan fried chicken. Didn't come with tender stem broccoli as listed, ordinary broccoli which looked to gave been thrown on plate. Chips were dreadful, soggy and black. Food was just warm enough. Partner had steak which he said was "alright".

Been visiting this pub for food for years. It's got a relatively new manager and care has been taken to update the establishment. The menu is extensive ( and printed very small so advise to look at menu on website) but now lacks choice other than sandwiches and baguettes for lunch and smaller appetites... the 2 course lunch menu is no longer available on Saturdays.. We did however enjoy what we had but a bit pricey for lunchtime and soon went cold as plates were not heated. Overall good food but changes to menu and price increases mean we will not visit as often.

When the sunday roast came, for the price it initially looked really good, sadly with it being cold only with warm gravy on top didn't impress us very much. - Also there was a very loud lady behind the bar. we assumed she was either a bar manager/landlady. She unfortunatly made the experience even worse, So we couldn't wait to leave, She was barking orders or shouting orders to the staff, that made us feel sorry for them to have such a boss.... Normaly we would mention "a cold meal", however me or my partner didn't have the energy to have a row with x Person. Says it all for £2.00 extra we didn't stay for dessert.

This is a great pub with lovely staff and fab food. There is a very comfortable local pub atmosphere. Reasonable prices and staff always go the extra mile to make customers have a good experience.

Great welcome from staff on arrival engaging with our grand children straight away. Food was spot on and staff attentive throughout our visit. Great value for money. Will certainly come again soon.

I had pate to start which was a cold starter so couldn’t go wrong., came with no butter. Main was a beef roast dinner that was served cold, paid extra for a uncooked stuffing ball. Waitress was lovely and returned our food to be re-heated, I didn’t mind that. Veg was frozen veg and watery, not sure about the Yorkshire pudding but it really didn’t taste nice, no new potatoes as states on menu, 2 roast potatoes that were ok, roast beef over cooked a dry. This Sunday roast is definitely the worst I’ve been served.

Visited today for lunch certainly not disappointed fabulous food freshly home cooked attentive friendly staff,staff checked that everything had been ok with the meal. Will certainly return

This is a very honest review - Family meal of 5 of which will not be repeated at this pub. Just got back from dining today. I am vegetarian and had pre-ordered the vegetarian curry but when it was brought to the table it was so watery it was spilling over the side of the bowl with what looked like the vegetables from a Sunday roast dinner - big chunks of cauliflower and broccoli I have seen thicker soups - my niece commented to the waitress who had brought the meal to the tablet "it looks a bit watery" which the waitress replied "it does look a bit watery doesn't it" !! If this was the opinion why was it served. Cannot understand why a chef would serve such an appalling meal. I was asked if i would like to change the meal which I did. I then opted for the vegetarian Sunday roast which was ok. Going on to desserts: My niece has a severe nut allergy which she had previously informed them of when booking the table a few weeks ago - upon ordering desserts she asked regarding any item containing nuts which the waitress replied do you have an allergy to nuts which my niece replied yes - anaphylaxis - the waitress replied in a very condescending manner that they should have been notified before ordering our meals - which they were when the booking was made as we had to give our menu choices (not sure why) never heard of the need to pre-order food - understandably for Christmas Day but not on a Sunday!! Safe to say we will not be returning.

It's many years since I last dined at this establishment and was pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent and to a high standard and nice to have proper chips. Big thank you to Canadian waitress for looking after us.

We went with 2 friends for a meal on 9/9/23 and was very disappointed in our meals we all had steak which came with no peas as they had run out!! The mushrooms were cold to which they went to fetch us some more but again cold the pepper corn sauce was like pouring water on my steak, and the chips were like they had been in the fryer all day, so all in all very disappointed and safe to say will not be returning

I ordered 2 scampi meals. When it eventually come I thought that's funny shape for scampi? I cut into it, it was pink inside..I thought it was raw. When I took the batter off it was shrimps!!!! So I called the waitress over and told her. She said yeah the chef said got no scampi so did those, they are fresh. I said they maybe fresh but I ordered 2 scampi and I can't eat those don't like them. (What about alleries??) Why didnt anyone come out and explain that there was no scampi and choose something else?? She went away come back and asked me to pick something else off the menu. Instead of taking the whole meal away she come back with a small plate and told me to put the shrimp on the plate..had to wait about 15-20 minutes for the lasagne, in the mean time I'd eaten the chips and mushy peas which had gone cold, mum didn't eat hers it put her off. I didn't want the lasagne when it come, had it put in a container but put it in the bin. Waitress said I'll go get pudding menu, 20 mins later still sitting there. So I went to pay. As we'd had enough There was no offer of complimentary drinks or money off the bill. When I got home I had a look on the menus and it should've been two courses for £11.25 I didn't realise that. So lost out all round. What should have been a lovely afternoon was well and truly ruined and we won't be returning. I emailed them 6 days ago about what happened and still awaiting a reply.

Had to ask for a table, then get up and ask for a drink, then ask if we could order, sat through a 3 course meal with only one drink. The lady behind the bar short brown hair talking to another staff member about rubbish while im waiting for a drink. Then i asked the waiter, man with dark hair and beard (looked like a chef) if i can order he says can you wait, well at this point id waited 20mins. Then the blonde hair lady bought the food, i asked for sauce and it was like asking for a free meal. Absolutely shocking, the management need to employ staff that at least look like they want to be there. Embarrassing for all Will mot return and i know all the other customers were complaining about the service too.

The chips are unbeaten! Great to see the pub offering new events to bring people back after lots of management changes! Great pub grub at Great prices

Took my mum for her birthday we had a brilliant meal the food was great fish was lovely chips were home made they were great just what I like everything was brilliant the staff were very good to very helpful nice girls very pleasant had a great time

After an incredible wedding in Stone, we asked friends for a recommendation for a great Sunday lunch and this was it! Under new management was apparently key to this, as the person had been 4 times in 3 weeks! Loved that snd didn’t hesitate to come. It was excellent from start to finish. 1. Uber friendly bar staff who served our drinks on the way to the table. 2. Plenty of staff so quickly seated and served. 3. Tweaks to the dish were absolutely no problem. 4. Food was really delicious and beautifully cooked. 5. Ambience spot on. Would absolutely go back to eat here and try some other dishes on the menu.

My husband and myself decided to go for an early tea. The eating area was almost empty and asked for a quiet table albeit it was a table for 4 but as it was almost empty didn't see how that would be a problem.we were shown to a cramped table for two along the wall by a very unsmiling abrupt lady which was not the best service. I must say the food was lovely but having to keep waiting for dessert and the bill although the place was almost empty was not the best experience. I did find that before we left two couples came in who were obviously regulars and were given a far better reception. We will not be back which is sad as we have been many times in the past.

So the swynerton arms is a pub I’ve using for over twenty years now, its had its ups and downs until jo arrived and turned it around, employing the right staff was the main part of the task (also the decor) but danni the chef...
