The Sweet Shop in Gwynedd

Called early evening - after a very wet day saw a break in the weather and wandered along the sea front - thought an ice cream would be a lovely seaside treat! @ 5-20 each person ( for two of the smallest scoops EVER) we were hoping for a ‘wow’ ! Sadly nothing special and it was melting as placed in the tub (and it was a very windy cool night! ) What an expensive sea side so called treat!

Beautiful ginger ice cream! Easy to choose your cone option and a good big dollop of your selection on top! A few people are complaining about customer service and this needs to be put in perspective. It's a small shop in an incredibly busy seaside location. The place is full of families & dogs milling around inside & outside. The staff are doing their best. They were pleasant to us - give them a break! 😊

I have always loved the Aberdyfi ice cream shop and received reasonable portions and good service up until this summer. However I was very disappointed by my last 2 visits. Yesterday for instance, the member of staff was not at all welcoming, only looking up to scowl at me, also stared at me until I made a decision on what I wanted which made me feel rushed. I was then handed an ice cream with barely a scoop. It’s a nice business with a great product but the summer staff desperately need training on customer service.

Popped in this morning to ask what time closing is today (3 August). We were told 9pm. Just been back at 8.45pm. Staff were there but refused to serve us even after we explained what we were told earlier. Very poor service. Can’t understand why they refused to serve us when they were still there! Most unhelpful. They even had the nerve to tell us to come back at 10am tomorrow! We had planned an Icecream after supper not for breakfast. We won’t be back! Would rather support a more reliable business

Waited in a long queue for a milkshake just to be told by a girl that is working there that she doesn’t have enough energy to make our milkshakes absolutely diabolical service disgusting behaviour and wouldn’t recommend it at all and then followed on by that she tried to cover it up with an excuse of lack of milk

Absolutely delicious, but boy was it expensive! £5.20 for 2 scoops of ice cream! That made it 20.8p per spoonful!! #sawmecoming #tourist

I unashamedly LOVE this place. Luckily for my purse and my figure, we don't live that close to Aberdyfi but, when we do visit, I will always pop in for an ice cream, in a cup, with a spoon, because it just prolongs the pleasure. Not an experience for the indecisive, there are a LOT of flavours on offer, including an impressive array of sorbets, if that is your thing. A word of warning, the list outside the shop is extensive - around 40 flavours - but you need to look at the daily board inside the shop to ensure that the flavour you fancy is available; a glance at the tubs in the freezer is also advisable, because the popular ones do sell out. This isn't a Strawberry Mivi (am I showing my age?!) or a Magnum, it is locally made, firm, creamy and utterly delicious, something to linger over - well, as long as the ombient temperature will allow. The queue is often out of the door and into the street, join it, really - join it - you won't be disappointed.

We went with family and had 5 ice creams. The staff were friendly, and having to order to children that change there mind every 3 seconds they continued to be friendly. The shop gets busy so I would recommend sending one person in and they have menus outside the shop. Be careful though as it’s one the main road and it’s busy with cars. The Ice Cream itself was a portion for a single scoop it was enough to satisfy our kids. It was delicious as well and I would have it from there again. Price wise it wasn’t too bad compared to places in the UK.

Ice cream prices increased considerably from last year, a real rip off! Served with the smallest serving scoop known to man! Real disappointment

Live not to far away so when we visit Aberdyfi an ice-cream from The Sweet Shop is a must. Staff are alway cheerful and friendly, being patient with children who because of the wide choice available sometimes take a while to choose what flavour to have. Visited a few days ago and was crossing the road with my ice-cream when calamity struck ! Ice-cream hit the road, Went back to get a replacement and joked with the staff about my mishap and was surprised to be given a replacement free of charge. What a nice gesture. Thank you

Lovely ice cream, although next door is just as good. The young women who are working there this summer are fantastic but the older woman is always brusque and rude. Her portions are always on the small size and she acts like she is doing you a favour by serving you. Will not be going back. Shame as I used to come here regularly and bring people to the area.

Delicious ice cream, with lots of choice. Yes, it’s busy - but it’s the summer holidays, so what would you expect? They let me daughter try the honey ice cream before she made her final choice - which meant she knew she liked it!

Having been huge fans of this fabulous ice cream shop previously and enjoyed many visits, disappointed to notice that with new ownership the quality and quantity of the serve has decreased. Previously the ice cream was full of wonderful little chunks of whatever deliciousness the flavours were, but no more. It now resembles a standard generic, anywhere ice cream and combined with the price increase it’s a shame. I’m sure the shop will still be successful as will the new Aberystwyth branch, as ice cream shops at the seaside generally are, but possibly the wow factor has sadly left with the previous owner.

Having spent many years visiting this shop (and a lot of money), the best ice creams in the UK we know of, we were obviously concerned to hear about a change in ownership this year. Having sampled the ice creams under the new ownership, we have mixed feelings. There are new flavours which are welcome. The quality remains good, although the general feeling is not as good. The most noticeable changes are the scoop sizes which are obviously smaller (bordering on miserly) and the prices which are obviously higher. It’s a shame. Great business and I wish them luck, hoping the decline is just teething problems. Please don’t change a winning formula

By far, The Sweet Shop offers the most delicious ice creams you can imagine and the choice is vast ! Go on, treat yourself !

There’s always a queue but, my oh my, they sure know how to make ice cream here! This really is artisan ice cream of the highest quality and the wait is well rewarded. Lots of flavours, my favourite being the ginger with pieces of stem ginger. Totally scrumptious!

The Sweet Shop has queues forming outside as the sun shines and the ice-cream cannot be faulted. However (and this is clearly personal taste) the Kiosk on Towyn promenade - half way down the strip sells even nicer products and is cheaper. Not as picturesque as Aberdovey BUT still a fab place to hang out in the sunshine whilst eating your 99!

Wow the choice of flavours was amazing. Ice cream was delicious and really nice staff too. A little gem.

Discovered Aberdyfi by accident (Spouse map reading !!!!) such a fantastic place and to top it off home made artisan dairy ice cream enjoyed across the road watching the sights of the sea. Defo will return. PS why travel abroad at present.

The most delicious ice cream! Salted caramel incredible. Sometimes there’s a queue but it shows how good it is. Staff lovely too.

Had a wide range of ice cream ! They had gluten free cones or the option to have it in a tub ! Had the white chocolate ice cream , they used a clean scoop which is fab !! The gluten free cone was the best one I have tried yet ! Eating a delicious ice cream with a beautiful view!

Always has a huge que, but totally worth it, staff were friendly and wore masks. We tried a few different ice-creams but really loved the unicorn and perfitarole. Highly recommended

Right on the seafront, and specialising in a delightful range of ice creams, this is a very popular shop.

Myself and my family had Ice Cream from this shop and none of us were disappointed with the ones we had especially the Jaffa Cake and Lemon Merigune ones. Definitely a must when coming to Aberdovey

Under Covid19 regulations still producing and serving a wide range of delicious and imaginative ice cream. Both the Terrace outlet and the kiosk by the Visitor Centre are doing brisk business. Long may they prosper

We came to Aberdovey for a weeks holiday and one of my daughters friends who had been here said we had to visit.....and we are so glad we did.Firstly, what a choice of ice creams and sorbet's they have.We decided to have 2 scoops of different flavours each night (I know what you're thinking but hey, we are on holiday and calories don't count when you're on holiday do they)Lemon Meringue.....really great lemon flavour with real meringue in itThe chocolate was wowprofiterole incredible and the peanut.....WowReally, do yourselves a favour and visit here. Even if it’s an hours drive from where you are make the trip. My family come from Italy and I've had Ice Cream made in Rome, Venice, Verona, Sorento, Naples and many more places and I'm sorry to say this place has the best ice cream I have ever eaten.

Lovely smooth ice cream. Loads of flavour choices, including a couple of choices for our daughter with a milk protein intolerance (she loved the mango and passionfruit sorbet). The kids loved being able to see all the cone options and choose their combination. Good system in place to meet covid guidelines. We definitely recommend

...... I tried the cappuccino one first day of holiday, lovely, then salted caramel, really nice , then Jaffa Cake !!!!! Omg I have had Jaffa Cake ever since , can’t get past it , THE best ice cream ever, I have had Gelato in Italy which was amazing but this beats them all , I have to come back if only for the Jaffa Cake ice cream Do you do home delivery??

This shop sells the best ice cream I’ve ever had. I would recommend caramel fudgy wudgy! It is also stocked with loads of old fashioned sweets and other snacks. The staff are all lovely and provide great service, even when there’s a long queue out the back door (shows how popular it is!!) you never have to wait long as the staff are all on top of it.

Ice cream made in the town, literally over the road and it tastes good! So this satisfies both my taste buds and the carbon foot print concerns.

Never been to Aberdyfi before but enjoyed it. Tide was on its way out as we got there and boy was it fast. There are also weaver fish along this coast so look them up, they can leave a nasty sting. Anyway the ice cream. I had Eton Mess, my daughter salted caramel, both seriously good. So good that we had another one an hour later. £1.90 for a single scoop which I thought was ok. The drive up to Fairbourne from here has some great sea views as well. We shall return.

We stopped here to get some ice creams before going for a walk along the beach. The girl serving in the shop was lovely and friendly. The selection of ice cream on offer was excellent too! A great little shop - excellent customer service and quality produce goes a long way!

After a lovely day out in aberdovey we decided to have ice cream and oh my god it was good! I had rocky road which is just chocolate with fudge and marshmallow and I was easily the nicest chocolate ice cream you can get! Great service with moderate prices, this place will definitely need a revisit!

One of my granddaughters has a peanut allergy we explained this to a young manand he was amazing so obliging. He went and fetched a new ice cream from the fridge at the back of the shop and a new cone he also used a new glove.How wonderful was that. The ice cream is Fantastic. Excellent.

stopped here on the way with friends having had a Sunday roast. They highly recommended the place and they weren't wrong. Loads of choice but not so much that it was overwhelming and friendly staff. My only complaint - I wished I'd known about the half and half option before i'd ordered! A lovely location and even on a grey day it was great to look out at the boats and to people watch while enjoying the icecream. Even if there's a bit of a queue, it's well worth it.

11/10 locally sourced, fresh ice cream that would leave anyone with an unforgettable tasting experience. This is a must visit for anyone stopping by in aberdovey for a few days, with the hidden gem situated directly opposite the tourist information centre. I can imagine for most it would be easy to miss! However upon entering you can tell the staff but a lot if time, effort & professionalism into mastering the product itself. The 'proof is in the pudding' for sure! The Sweet Shop boasts what most eateries are lacking in this modern age; quality, reliability & most importantly love. You can really feel the dedicated, humbling attitude from the establishment as a whole, showcasing to customers what they do best- An excellent local representation of Ice cream!!

Had a great weekend in Aberdovey, which was topped of by discovering this wonderful home made ice cream shop.

We regretted our expensive visit to this place The much boasted homemade ice cream was thin and sugary to us while just next door is a terrific place. The young staff are sweet but the management are off-putting, seeming stressed and snappish. Don't bother.

What a treat today! My husband and I called into the Sweet Shop in Aberdovey. Very friendly and helpful staff. The two ice creams we bought were delicious, we both tried each other’s and could not decide who had made the best choice. It tasted like homemade. We are definitely going to call again next time we are in the village, just to try their other flavours. Well worth a visit if you a traveling this way.

It was lovely to visit the pink sweet shop! The ice cream was very fresh and tasted amazing! Aberdyfi is such a beautiful place and this place makes it extra special. Will be back again soon!

Typical Bank Holiday weather but compensated by a visit to this lovely shop. What a treat, so many flavours of delicious icecream and also lots of yummy extras like fudge and old fashioned sweets. Even our dog was treated to a doggie yoggie! Staff were really friendly and helpful even though they were busy and I was indecisive, nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely come back for more!

We went for an ice cream having just walked several miles on a hot day. We were the only customers. We asked for two diabetic ice creams. The assistant was away for several minutes and when she came back she told us that the icecream was very frozen and she had truble getting it out. We said that was fine we & were happy to wait. We were charged £4 for a curl (less than half a scoop) of ice cream each. We should have complained but we had taken it away when we discovered we did not have full scoops. The ice cream was OK but the portion size was a disgrace. We saw people coming out of the next door ice cream shop (The Fridge) with massive ice creams. Hopefully given the many great reviews this was a one off serving error due to over frozen ice cream but we will not go back there. Very disappointed.

Excellent service even when they are rushed off their feet... super choice and value or money, highly recommended. They are open until 9pm in July and August. so you can have a late night stroll along the beach, watch the sunset and enjoy your ice cream.

We always finish up a visit to our favourite sea side resort with a visit to our favourite ice cream shop. The choice is wide ( my favourite is ginger *yummy*) The staff are quick but always seem to have time for everyone.

After more than a decade living in the UK, I had only been able to find disappointingly sharp, hard, expensive sugar-free ice cream twice. (The stuff labeled Diabetic in some supermarkets is sweetened with fructose, not safe for me at all.) Whenever I visited the States, I'd eat sugar free ice cream with abandon and wish I could find some here.

If your in Aberdovey this place is a must. Delicious ice cream. Even if your on a diet forget it for 1 day. You cannot miss a visit. 👿😺👅💛 we will be back.

Sitting in the sun eating delicious ice-cream with the children and watching the gentle fun on the beach was a highlight of my holiday in Wales

Really excellent ice-cream, the staff serving were pleasant and quick which helped keep the queues down, they offered small tasters of the different flavours if you couldn't decide and had the major allergens noted against the varieties. A special treat and well priced for what they offer.

The ice cream is fantastic all day long but in the summer enjoy an early evening sweet treat - no queues either! Newly introduced home made ice lollies tried today - ask for flavours. Also I can't believe my son fitted this in but he did...so many flavours to choose from he couldn't decide.

I had the Elderflower sorbet twice and it was gorgeous!! so refreshing and lovely. Loved the GF cones that were available.

We've stopped here for ice creams several times during the past couple of years. It's home-made and is amongst the best we've ever had anywhere! A place not to be missed!

Fantastic and really exceptional ice cream. We both had 2 scoops each from the large selection available on display. Then went back for another 2 each - a total of 6 7 different flavours tried - all great. Even though we were passing through on a cold overcast day, were rewarded with some of best ice cream we have had in quite a while. Amie was behind the counter and a cheerful ray of sunshine too. Extra Direction Notes:Travelling from Machynlleth on the A493 you enter Aberdovey, locally known as Aberdyfi on the signs. The shop is about 100m after the marker on the Tripadvisor map and sits opposite a small garden/park you see on the left with free parking spaces handy for a stop.The Sweet Shop is opposite the Park / Information Centre next to this Park. If you pass the RNLI station as the road bends to the right you have just passed the shop.The URL included with this review gives a bit more information that you might find useful. Popped in here for an ice cream and walked out with more than that.Ice cream was excellent, but what really caught my eye was the ice creams for dogs in doggy flavours.This is such a cool idea, besides cooling down us humans on a hot day with an ice cream they also will cool down your dog. This is the best ice cream parlour I have been to! There arw so many choices of icecream. I was spoilt for choice. I had the honeycomb icecream in a sprinkles cone which was amazing yesterday and the lemon meringue icecream today. I'm still trying to decide what to have tomorrow! I would definitely recommend this place.

Went to the sweet shop with some friends while stopping off in Aberdovey. Great ice cream with generous helpings and great selection of flavours. Was with a friend who is celiac and she was chuffed to find they had proper ice cream cones that were gluten free and didn't taste like cardboard. Not as much lactose free ice cream, but there was a good selection of sorbets. All in all a great little shop with friendly staff.

Ohne viel Theater: Es ist das beste bisher in Wales gegessene Eis! Davon konnte sich auch schon seine Hoheit der Prince of Wales überzeugen. Sehr sympathische und freundliche Verkäuferinnen, die einem so außergewöhnliche Sorten wie "Jaffa Cake" oder "Eton Mess" verkaufen.

Stopped for an ice cream , the choice is amazing and they also have doggy ice cream too!! My daughter has allergies and the lady was so helpful. She made her a cone from the ice cream out the back so that it wasn't one which was next to the peanut ice cream, this is the first time my daughter has not worried about eating one! Thanks so much for making her feel at ease! Lots of choice too. I can recommend the Eton mess and the blue bubble one , both amazing.

Saw lots of people in and out of here very quickly eating ice cream so decided to give it a try. Without doubt the best ice cream we have had in years. Almost too many flavours to choose from. Lots of staff so very quick service. Very good prices too

Wonderful ice creams and excellent, efficient service. Called at a busy time but queue was really quick. Ice creams served in Welsh cones with dragons on them. Excellent, original choice of sorbets and ice creams. Will definitely call again!

Every year we visit and every year we experience fantastic service. My little girl is dairy free & we always pop in for a sorbet as a holiday treat, the staff take her allergy her seriously - sterilising the scoop, getting the sorbet from the back so there is no cross contamination etc also they remembered us everyday. Such little things but they honestly make such a difference. All the staff are lovely and friendly and the ice cream is yummy!!! Highly recommend to all!

There are umpteen excellent reviews already, but I thought that I would add that they have gluten-free cones and that almost all the flavours are gluten-free. I know this because I asked the lady proprietor when we had a visitor to whom it mattered.

We visited here yesterday to grab a sweet treat... The lady was extremely friendly, lovely and smiley. The choice of icecream was amazing!! They all sounded and looked mouth wateringly good. We tried Eton mess, chocolate and Jaffa cake Jaffa cake was just out of this world!! The best thing about aberdovey definitely!!

I discovered this shop last year and have been looking forward to going back. The ice cream is delicious, the only difficulty is choosing which flavour to have as there is a wide selection. They now do frozen yoghurt for dogs which went down well with my 3 who shared a tub between them.

Wide selection of sweets and ice creams at resonable prices. Try the mint choc chip/eton mess its devine.

We visit Aberdovey around 4 times a year for the past 15 years and my son visits the ice cream shop daily on our visits always has a double chocolate the staff extremely polite and always smiling and very patient even when the line is out side the shop

This shop stocks a wonderful array of delicious home-made ice creams. Our particular favourites were salted caramel, lemon meringue, ginger and honey but every one we tried was great. We visited twice during our stay in the area and on each occasion the member of staff serving was really friendly and helpful (one of our party had a nut allergy). It's worth noting that they for £6 they sell a freezer friendly container with 5 very generous scoops of different flavours - ideal to take home or to your self-catering apartment!!!

A must when visiting Aberdovey, homemade ice cream at its best, however customer service not great, ignored whilst staff carried on a conversation and had to asked to be served.... Your ice cream may be great... But your service stinks!!!!

We always visit, and have on occasions used a visit as a bribe with the grandchildren. The icecream is delicious, for children of all ages, with a good selection of cones including my favourite, waffle with chocolate.
