The Swan Salford in Central Bedfordshire

We have been here many times, and previously everything was fine, but they fell down a little during this visit. Ordered the pork with crackling, but we were told there was no crackling(!) How does that happen? I ordered the beef instead, but it was difficult to cut and a bit chewy. Bad day in the kitchen?

Went for lunch on Sunday, and the food was amazing 10/10 Had the roast dinner with all the trimmings, they even came round to ask if we wanted any more roast potatoes, Yorkshire puds and gravy.... Great service, fab team, well done to you ALL! Good selection on the menu, great choice of beers.... Not the cheapest, but you only get what you pay for, and it was good value. They cook fresh food as fast as they can, rather than fast food. See you again soon.

The food and service is outstanding. Good choice of dishes on the menu and special's board. Desserts are amazing too. Would highly recommend.

Wife and myself went out for an anniversary meal. We haven’t been to The Swan for a long time, and were over the moon we did go. The place itself, ambience and staff welcoming & pleasant. The service was good, the food (2 different steaks between us) awesome and everything just perfect. Thanks to the staff

Nice welcome, friendly team, good atmosphere. Food not as good as the other times we have been. Beef overcooked, not enough veg, overcooked stuffing and tasteless Cauliflower mornay. Real shame.

Expensive pub food which was JUST ok. Service was slow but staff were very nice and accommodating. It was not overly busy so the steak should have been medium to well done. It was well done in the middle and dry at edges! The 'dianne' sauce was a mushroom sauce! And the veggie curry dish lacked curry. Would I go there again? Not for food.

Not a bad meal but nothing special. I paid £28 for monkfish and what came was a tiny piece of fish on some basic roasted veg. Bit like a mid week meal I’d cook at home. Young waitress didn’t fully understand menu or drink menu. Not her fault, just needs more training. We ordered JD and Coke and were told they didn’t have it. We asked waitress to check what alternative bourbons they had and gave her some examples. She returned to the table and said they had none. My husband went and checked himself and they did have one of the ones we suggested. Again, just young kids who need more training but when a restaurant is asking £25-30 for a main course I expect the standard of service to match. For £28 I could eat an outstanding main course in central London with great service. Sadly won’t be returning.

Great service from the manager Sara & all the team. The Live music was amazing! Lovely to spend the evening relaxing in the beer garden with lots of others. All the food we had on the bbq was cooked perfectly and the accompanying salads were delicious. We definitely need to visit more for these events.

Another great experience at the Swan, Salford. Outside on their garden, crab tart, great Sunday roast pork with stuffing. More than you could eat and still they offered more roast potatoes and/or Yorkshire Pud. Delicious.

We regularly come here as food is always fabulous. Service can be hit and miss depending on who is on, but today was shocking. We were the only people in the restaurant and felt like an inconvenience. We had to ask for everything and ended up paying on the app to leave. If this was my first time I would not be back. Not sure what happened but it wasn’t good. Also - it’s lovely to have all the doors open in the summer but the hundreds of flies around our table, not so good 🤢

Lovely meal at the Swan last night, really good choice of food including specials. The pub is such a gem in MK village. Great service from Caitlyn, really friendly and quick.

Turned up at 10:15pm for a drink on a night where they close at 11pm. I was told rather abruptly that they were "cashing up" and that apparently meant I can't buy any drink or anything else. Not even on card. For a pub that is very much suffering from poor footfall due to the unnecessarily long road closures nearby (the usual tall stories of housing constructors claiming to need over a year of disruptive roadworks), it is astounding that they'd turn away custom. Okay, so I was just after one pint and that's not exactly lucrative for them, but I do this at other pubs in Milton Keynes and almost all of them stay open to their advertised time - which is literally a measurement of adequacy that The Swan thinks it can do without. A few miles away I found a much smaller pub only too happy to accept my custom. Yeah, I'm no big spender but why give me a ludicrous excuse and be obnoxious to me?

This is one of our favourite restaurants in the local area and definitely worth a visit for anyone who hasn’t been before! We are regular diners here for celebratory meals and always receive great service and delicious food. Most recently we came for lunch at the weekend and it didn’t disappoint. The beef pie was so delicious as was the chicken schnitzel. The desserts we had were also really nice. Service is always really great here and again this visit didn’t disappoint. The staff are always really welcoming and attentive. Absolutely fantastic!

Everything was lovely, except our waitress did not bother to ask about dessert nor bring the menu back, so we just left.

I’ve been coming to this place many times over the years and my last review was very good. Unfortunately today I had to leave before I could order the food. Standards were low today, certainly below what I expect from this place. The table we sat at was very sticky to touch, service was abrupt and invisible and I could see through into the kitchen and didn’t like what I could see in terms of hygiene. My partner and I walked out. I’d have mentioned it to the staff but they were not visible. It wasn’t that busy.

Another great meal at the Swan. The Sunday roasts are huge. Never seen such a large Yorkshire pudding. More veg and gravy on offer. Service is always attentive.

I arranged a family lunch to celebrate my partner's big birthday. Two of us ordered the Mozzarella, Tomato, Basil & Red Onion starter - there was no basil or red onion, just rocket. We fed this back but it fell on deaf ears. It took about 20 minutes for our plates to be cleared then had another wait for our main course. The food was really good. We ordered a bottle of wine & the waiter plonked it on the table with the screw top on & walked away so we had to open & serve ourselves!!! Again, we had to wait a while for our plates to be cleared. Desserts were ordered & again there was a long wait. In the meantime, they plonked the dessert cutlery & napkins on the table & walked way rather than put them in the place settings!!! When we had finished our desserts, we were asked to leave the table as it was needed in the next 15 minutes!! We did say that the service had bee very slow & that we would have left earlier if the service had been quicker. Again that fell on deaf ears. Although the food was really good, the service was a lot to be desired.

Just called in on Saturday for a drink with my daughter. She ordered a glass of wine and 2 pints of soda water. The bill was just over £12. I asked the barman Do you charge for water? He said Yes! I was disgusted that I was charged £7 for two pints of water. I won’t be visiting your pub again. It’s water!!! Other pubs don’t charge for water.

A place where I used to come regularly for special occasions growing up. Extremely disappointed from our visit today. My husband ordered the buttermilk chicken to start. When he cut into it before my 3 year old could share it with him, we noticed the chicken was completely raw. The waiting staff did act appropriately and were apologetic, but we were left feeling quite concerned and put us off for the rest of our meal. I’m not sure how this happened as there looked like there were about 5 chefs working in the kitchen and we were one of the 3 families dining in at the time (so not exactly busy!). Not great when you are 28 weeks pregnant and put at risk of food poisoning. We will not be returning - such a shame as the last time we visited in 2022, there were issues too (private room booking for 60th birthday but they had triple booked us with a wedding and another party!)

Highly recommend. Haven’t been for a year & returned with 3 friends for Saturday lunch . All our dishes were scrumptious. Fantastic specials board. All staff were welcoming, friendly & attentive . Well done team, we will be back . 👏👏👏👏👏

Went here for a works leaving lunch and it was lovely

Lovely place for a meal out. We were seated promptly and given the menus and our drinks order taken. Food is good service was good and the atmosphere is pleasant. Very popular which is always a good sign. Good vegetarian and vegan options which were presented with no issues. Marmite onions were good on the plant based burger that I had.

Delicious food with a good range of options and absolutely delightful helpful friendly staff. Will definitely go back.

A common port of call for us. Up to its usual standard. Good food and service. However, it was extraordinarily quiet, being just after the Christmas/New Year period, which rather detracted from the atmosphere. Still, we will be going back.

Whilst we were briefed about catering issues and challenges with the burners we have got to say that the remaining food was underwhelming at best and a tad over priced. The waiting team were slow and lacked energy or knowledge of the menu when we questioned the quality and content of what we were served. Overall I have been a customer for a number of years and yesterday brought colleagues with me to the pub. I am afraid that I won’t be bringing them back for a while yet

Visited here for a late Sunday lunch. Well kept bitter and prosecco on arrival served by friendly staff. Ordered starters of Venison terrine and a baked Camembert. Main courses of Roast beef with all the trimmings and a side of Cauliflower cheese. All cooked to a high standard and served by friendly cheerful staff. Washed down by a very good Rioja. Thank you Swan and staff for an enjoyable Sunday lunch.

A pleasant environment with courteous staff, but sadly, we were disappointed by the food, although the menu read invitingly. My sea bass was dry and not encrusted with sesame, and my sons complained that the roast beef did not warrant the cost - not much of it and very thinly sliced. A busy Sunday lunch with a rather boisterous family sitting alongside also detracted from the occasion. So, based on this experience, we wouldn't recommend.

Very disappointing. We arrived early on a weekday to find a lovely looking pub. Greeted promptly and politely. Sat down at our table, we looked at the menu which had a good choice. There wasn't much choice on the beer front, which was disappointing. Ordered our food and waited. What turned out to be one of the least tasty meals my wife and I have ever had. The risotto was overcooked under seasoned and tastless. I had the celeriac Wellington, which was nowhere near as bad, but again, the pastry was tastless. we never complain normally, but as my wife liberally couldn't eat it, we had to. On a positive note, we were not charged, and the waiter was excellent throughout

Tonight was absolutely lovely, food was amazing & staff were fantastic, we had had a bad experience before but tonight definitely made up for it, our waitress was lovely! Definitely back to recommending the Swan again!

The taste of the food was ok but the service did not provide finger bowls for the eating of mussels or a bowl for the mussel shells.

Although the staff were very friendly we felt like second class guests. There was a private party on, and we were told there would be a delay in our food as they were “plating up”. This should have been stated at the time of booking or bookings not accepted for 19:30 .We were offered complimentary Ciabatta, but this was served frozen in the middle. It was returned - with attitude and came back still frozen, so we gave up. Also a large party for a 40th birthday was being prepared for, right next to our table. A person arrived and for the next half an hour, whilst we were trying to relax and enjoy our evening was laying flowers out, rustling carrier bags, putting up balloons and attaching banners to the windows. This should have been done prior to evening service and should not have disrupted other guests. We have visited the group’s sister pub - The Black Horse in Woburn which has always been excellent and thought we would try here. We are very reluctant to return and it ruined our 4 year anniversary meal.

Always greeted by friendly staff and. booking for dinner made every 5 or 6 weeks based purely on quality of service and menu choice. We'll done!

I’d booked an early table but as so warm asked to sit in the garden. Ordered and it was quite a long wait( we weren’t in a hurry) it was worth the wait! My 2 friends had the Special …Plaice and I had sea bass which was very nice! We were too full for dessert but I had coffee which came with a sml chocolate brownie.. very yummy!!

Time and time again, cannot fault the food and the service, went down for moules night last week and were once again left really impressed. Large portions great taste and a friendly Australian smile serving you Can’t ask for more than that

I was so disappointed we went for our Anniversary, my food wasn't cooked right so redone but by the time it came out my husband had finished. I was so upset. When my pudding came it was burnt, I have been before and was so so disappointed in tonight's meal... £140 down and not a great experience.. no offer of anything, won't be going again!

I come Fairly frequently and our party was disappointed with their pork belly dishes. The waitress was able to remove the main meal for those 3 guests, but it’s always disappointing when the food is not to a high standard

Just arrived home from a lovely meal. Havnt been here for 5 years and wanted to return for our anniversary. Great choices on the menu and a daily special board. The service was great and the food was fantastic. Also a lovely touch on the dessert from the chef. Thanks all. We recommend and will be returning. I need to try the belly pork. Ps. My steak was perfect.

We went to the Swan at Salford with friends. We had booked & were seated straight away. We all ordered Roast Dinner. The meals arrived promptly & were excellent. During the meal we were offered further Roast Potatoes & a Yorkshire pudding. We all ordered desert & coffee which again was served promptly. The service was excellent (waitress Chelsea) & the meal was excellent value. The ambiance was just right for a Sunday Dinner. We will return.

Another great meal outside in the garden for a change. Crab was delicious with a black pudding starter and cheese cake to finish. Only went in to try their 2 course lunch!

We had a bit of a disappointing lunch experience here. I went with my late father's dementia group and we found some of the staff to be rude. A female with a south African accent was rude to my mum and told her to sit closer to the table trying to push her in. She was not in the way. The server then aggressively put her arm in front of my mums face to get something. I wanted the toasted sourdough sandwich, however it came with marmite onions, which we all know is love it hate and I am definitely hate, so I just asked for onions without the marmite. Well the same server scowled at me going silent before telling me the chef makes up before hand. Fried onions are so difficult to do and take such a long time to cook I can understand why I just got cheese. When asked if we could have separate bills they said no and that they'll work out manually at the end. Finally when they thought we had all gone, my mother came out of the toilet to hear them bitching about one of our group. I don't think that we were difficult and certainly not rude. These were simple requests that were made out to be huge issues. The restaurant was attractive but the staff were very unprofessional.

I booked the Private Dining room for my Mother's 90th Birthday lunch. The room was excellent for us and enabled us to move around much more easily than being in the main restaurant. Plus it was accessible for my Mum who uses a pusher. We were also able to decorate it with flowers and banners etc plus have our own musician, which all added to the celebratory atmosphere. The food was excellent, especially as it is free range meat and fresh vegetables, important to my family. Plus very tasty too! I am a stickler for service, as it can affect the whole atmosphere of an event, however the lovely serving staff at The Swan totally delivered!! They were professional, friendly, attentive, unobtrusive and made us all feel very welcome and well looked after. So a big thank you to all the team at The Swan for making my Mum so happy on her 90th birthday and ensuring we all had a wonderful time.

Sadly let down by slow poor service . I always tip but having to go find someone to pay my bill made me not leave a tip . Disorganised front of house

We visited for an impromptu lunch as we were passing. The food is absolutely delicious. Possibly one of the best places to eat locally - and I don’t say that lightly. Everything we had was perfect. The halloumi fries, the sun dried tomato humous and the pork belly were all phenomenal. The waitresses were very friendly… that’s as good as it got though. The slowest service I think we’ve had… a huge wait for any chance to order, so much so we had to use the app for extra drinks and dessert. We weren’t asked how the meal was, in fact the waitress joked that she had forgotten to ask when she finally collected the plates. Overall, the food made up for the service, but the chefs are being let down slightly by the front of house which is a massive shame.

Food and restaurant really nice - though food was painfully slow, especially mains (waited over an hour). Staff are actually really attentive and polite so obviously issue with kitchen.

Used to like it here...stood for ages to get bill then took ages to get to pay ended up having to go to the bar...used to like it here obv must be new ownership Gone down in my view..shame really

A lovely lazy hot Sunday afternoon in the garden enjoying some delicious Sea Bass with ratatouille + a cold glass of white wine. What more could a person ask for!

This is a lovely restaurant and I think my family probably enjoyed it more than me. I have an eating issue (parosmia which is triggered by many ingredients) and asked the said this to the young lady behind the bar but she was very dismissive and was not helpful in finding or helping with alternative choices. Such a shame as the family enjoyed it but for me it did not cater for people with dietary issues. Won’t rush to visit again.

Been many times and always been great but this time not so good! Went for Sunday Roast and all three of us had the roast beef. Asked if we’d like it medium or well done. All asked for it medium. When the meals came all the beef was over cooked, and dry, certainly not how we expected it. The waitress was swift to try and sort it out. We placed the dried up beef on a spare plate for her to take back to the kitchen and said she’d bring fresh beef out. One waitress we asked tried to say that it was the end of the joint and it was always more well done. Then I’d suggest not asking how we like it cooked when we order if you’re just going to give the end scraps out. When fresh beef finally came they only brought 1 slice each, where there were 2 slices each originally. Wasn’t what we expected. Said nothing more and just decided to enjoy what we had left. Then we asked for liquor coffees, to be told they didn’t have any double cream and couldn’t do these. Overall not the best experience this time.

Lovely location for Sunday Lunch. We sat inside as our preference but the restaurant is lovely and bright and welcoming. Roast dinners were delicious and what a lovely touch that they came round offering extra roasties, Yorkshires and gravy. Staff were great especially our waitress, sorry didn’t get her name. It was a lovely afternoon, with great food and drinks, would definitely recommend to others.

Another excellent dinner at the Swan, marckerel and asparaus salad to start, aged and slow cooked steak pie, mash and greens with lots of gravy for mains and then chocolate and salted caramel trat with ice cream to finish. Washed down with a Sicilian Nero d' Avero -wonderful. beautifully cooked and served - heavenly evening

I’ve been going to the swan since it opened many years ago. The service was very good but unfortunately the food wasn’t as good as normal. Looked lovely but no real roast dinner flavour

Very pleasant service, certainly an improvement on our last visit. Not the easiest menu to chose from. My wife chose the pasta & I the burger. My one niggle was the exorbitant charge of £1.25 for a shot of lime in a small bottle of sparkling water.

We went with a group of friends to the Swan, it has a good reputation so we expected a lovely meal and experience. We had steak and Chips with a handful of leaves, close to 30 quid. Meal was very average and well over priced....

This was a mid week business meal, so restaurant was not full, however, the food was lovely and the service was excellent! A good selection of wine and drinks too.
