The Swan Public House & Restaurant in Braintree

Stopped for a quick sandwich and a side of chips, which were chunky and hot. Friendly service, not many patrons, so wasn't much of an atmosphere.

We visited the Swan Public House & Restaurant on Sunday 01/09/24 this was our first time visiting. This pub has a friendly cosy vibe. We were shown to the restaurant area but unfortunately left for quite a while to the point we weren't sure if we had to go to the bar to order or if they waited on us at the table, we popped down to the bar and a lovely lady said she would come to us at the table which she did do straight away (they were extremely busy so maybe that's why we had to wait longer than maybe you normally would?). The lady that took our orders was extremely pleasant and polite and very helpful when we were ordering certain dishes ie: roast options and steak dishes. The food was delivered in good time & was presented well, it was absolutely delicious & cooked to perfection, you get served a very good portion of food not like some places that scrimp on portions now days. I would say excellent value for money. We all left the table very satisfied. I have given an overall scoring of 4* purely due to I feel the restaurant could do with a little sprucing up and in the garden area there were tables that hadn't been cleared even though staff were delivery food out to the tables, but unfortanley they never cleared any tables on their return to the bar, this is one of my bug bares you should not be returning empty handed if there are tables to be cleared! it also makes a lovely area look unwelcoming to those seated already and to prepective customers.This score has no reflection of the service and great food that's definitely a 5* from all of us. We will definatly be returning to The Public House & Returaurant in Ryane soon.

The atmosphere of the pub is so good. The bar staff, she had a beautiful smile and a welcoming attitude. Food ordered. At most, my wife and I waited no longer than 8 minutes. The food was delivered with a professional approach. It's absolutely brilliant 👏... Thank you. Gerry & Gilda.

Slow service but good atmosphere. Went for a meal at 1.15pm, but the kitchen closed at 1pm.

Love this place. The atmosphere of the garden area is so nice, and the play area is always being used, and when it broke, once it got repaired instantly, the food was nice, but not 5 star

Family went there a few week ago .went up and ordered beers and wine and ask for a non alcoholic beer aswell. Drinking in the garden I said to my son how nice the drink was .he said let's have a taste and then said you know why it's nice ...it's a normal beer .. as I had already had some .it could have put me over the limit. I will never go in there again

Recently held my father's wake at the Swan and Cameron and Anya and their team were just amazing..we had the privacy of the back room with its own bar and use of the large garden as it was a lovely day. Food, drinks were very reasonably priced and the service was top notch. All the guests from far and wide commented on how beautiful the room looked and how friendly the atmosphere was. I would highly recommend it.

Having moved to the area we have made this pub our local .the friendly atmosphere is fantastic. It's everything a village pub should be. The staff have been so friendly to us and made us feel welcome and not outsiders. The food is without doubt the best I've had , from the veggie menu to the roasts to the fish and chips, sharing platters and quite honestly the whole menu. Great value for money. Disappointed, I arrived at 1pm on a Sunday my friends ordered food while I waited outside to hold the table. My turn came and I was told by the staff that they had stopped taking food orders. The guy couldn't say if they would be taking more orders. I had to stay while my friend had their food.

An absolutely lovely place lovely atmosphere, warm friendly smile,a nice quaint little pub.

Always greeted with a warm welcome and the food never dissapoints! It's lovely being able to go to a pub that caters for all, including vegetarians, as this is a common problem I find in other pubs

Atmosphere wasn't great, didn't feel welcome. Bar lady barley spoke to us. Cheap prices and okay for the kids.. didn't feel welcome.. didn't eat so can't comment on food

Great to have a dog friendly pub

This is our favourite pub! Staff are friendly, our dog is made super welcome, the food is delicious and prices are very reasonable. They show all the football matches and there’s jam night everyone two weeks as well - so much fun! We absolutely love it there, it’s a proper local pub 🥰

What a great place to go to all year round for food and drink. Such friendly staff. Summertime is great as there is a very large garden to sit in and have your meal .

Had a family Xmas meal 10 off us had the festive menu,food was delicious we had a room all to ourselves the service was great and price was definitely worth it in all we had an amazing night one to remember and cherish thank you so much best Xmas get together ever.

It has to be worst place to eat the food was horrible, I could not eat it, there was bunch loud guys in there drinking & swearing, very scruffy inside, they did not even take anything of the meal I didn’t eat, would not recommend eating inside or even having food plus it was expensive we had 2 drinks each starter and main came to £64.9o the pub could do with being decorated and punk music is very off putting it was a shamble’s , landlord is standing there pissing it up swearing with the lads

Excellent owner's ,Cameron and Anya,Food is delicious, friendly welcome for locals, visitors and well behaved dogs alike. Interior has an old world charm with friendly atmosphere.Outside is a large landscaped garden with lots of seating and a cozy covered terrace with log burners .Also home the the Rayne Pentanque team

A group of eight of us had dinner and drinks while watching the football. The service was great and very friendly. The food was really tasty, with Gluten Free options. We felt really looked after. Definitely recommend.

This pub is OK four of us had lunch here. I had ham egg and chips, I told them I was gluten free, when the meal arrived there was plenty of it but the ham had breadcrumbs on it which was disappointing. You got 2 eggs with it but they were quite greasy. My husband had lasagne and chips the lasagne was a good size and plenty of chips. The other people we was with both ordered the curry one had chicken and other had prawn and it came with nan bread, onion bhaji rice and chips. They also ordered nachos which came with cheese on top. They were quite slow in serving us and it wasn't very busy, although I couldnt tell if there were many people sitting in the garden and that may have been why they were slow because of being busy. We sat inside the area they call the restaurant it was clean but very rough and ready, so if you are looking for big portions and your not gluten free then this place might be worth a try.

I rang and asked if i could charge my power bank, laptop and phone whilst enjoying a beer and meal and they were more than happy to oblige. Upon arrival Jack pointed me in the direction of a what i believe to be the only free socket in the pub. I quickly rearranged the seating and table placement, hooked everything up and then started charging whilst surfing the web. 5 star service! :D

Excellent pub serving great food at very reasonable prices. Fast and very friendly service which we enjoyed in the lovely garden setting. Dog friendly for your furry children. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

The Swan is a free house and restaurant that serves the mainstream lager,s, beers and ale,s. It also sells guest beer.s and real ale,s The restaurant serves a broad range of food all well prepared and of good quality. Live music indoors and outdoors is part of the Swans culture. And some very good artists perform here. The beer garden where they have outdoor barbecue's is in my opinion the best in the Braintree area. It is a very pleasant place to sit with a nice pint on a Summer's day There also is undercover outdoor seatings to accommodate the unpredictable English weather. The Swan is a dam good pub by any standard. Hence 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Beautiful pub on the outskirts of Braintree.... Best sausage and mash I've had in a long time and the onion gravy made me want to lick the plate... very friendly staff here... and the garden area/dining area is brilliant with lots of plants and trees ... you can also watch TV outside.....

Finally, a local pub that does food for Coeliac's. the do a brilliant gluten free fish and chips (cooked in a separate fryer to avoid cross contamination), they also adjusted some of the other parts of the menu so i could eat them too! the staff are friendly and happy to help. highly reccomend.

What a disappointment. I drive past this pub a lot and it always seems lovely. Today I popped in after a bike ride for a drink and a bit of food. The service seemed a bit grumpy (not sure if it's because I'm not local?)... The food was burger van quality at best. A real let down in a great location. There always seems to be people here so I'm not sure if there is literally nothing better within 10 miles, but I won't be back again as it just doesn't love up to even low standards 👎

Nice old village pub with a big garden which is well maintained and has one of the county's oldest petanque courts and a large newer piste. Food is nice and reasonably priced and they serve decent beer. Toilets in the pub and outside for convenience. Situated on a crossroads in Rayne village and opposite the park. Good place to relax and observe village life.
