Called in for dinner on our first night of holiday in the Lakes. The Swan was near to where we were staying so handy after travelling. The meals were well cooked and the staff very welcoming and polite. Would return if in area again.

Went for Sunday lunch yesterday. Sat on window bench with ripped upholstered seats. Order roast dinners which were satisfactory. Our drinks didn’t arrive until we had eaten half of our meal. Bar staff seriously lax. Second drink orders arrived ages after despite staff stood talking. Disappointed as we’ve been coming for years and just felt very underwhelmed this time. Small tweaks could make it so much better x

Arrived at restaurant for lunch, had booked The Brasserie in error but staff were very accommodating and found us a table for 5. Great waiter, nice meal, £13 for Aperol spritz, £39 for bottle of Prosecco. Meal & 1 drink for 5 (no starters no deserts or coffees), £127, as a guide. After lunch went to spa. waiting for service, queue behind, 2 members of staff were chatting in a cupboard behind reception, another staff member came and turfed them out to serve us. Changing rooms; not enough fob bracelets for lockers. As spa sessions are booked on the hour, everyone exits and arrives at the same time, so the small, hot, changing rooms were crowded with people waiting to get to lockers, floors wet through, no space to change. This is supposed to be a treat for mum’s 80th it felt like the kids swimming lesson weekly chore. Spa was devine, outdoor jacuzzi was hot (last time I came it was cold) and to be honest that’s where we were happiest for 2 hours ! The outdoor sauna and steam rooms looked lovely though. Ordered coffee “no hot drinks because we’ve run out of takeaway cups” Ordered smoothies, only a couple of flavours available “we run out of things by the end of the week” (don’t book weekends which are more expensive too!). Generally we had a really nice time, the staff were absolutely lovely and helpful but run off their feet. Just felt like management had the guest:staff ratio wrong.

Firstly, I cannot fault the service. Every staff member was friendly and attentive. The food was also very good. It arrived hot, in good time and tasted great. I am disappointed to say I will not be returning due to dogs that are allowed in the restaurant. I am unsure whether our experience is unusual, but I doubt it given the acceptance of dogs inside the restaurant. There were several dogs barking and growling at other dogs, which attracted the attention of the whole restaurant. The owners of a couple of dogs allowed their pets to jump all over the sofas and roam freely around the restaurant. It was completely inappropriate. The restaurant is not a private home, it is a place where people have booked to enjoy a meal out without the constant interruptions and inappropriate behaviour of the animals and their owners. We asked to move tables to the Brasserie which doesn't allow dogs, and the staff kindly obliged. I would visit the Brasserie in the future, but the menu is more limited, so it is best checking beforehand.

Visited for lunch with my daughter and her young family and sat outside along the riverbank. Very friendly staff and great quality food. Their car park is huge and although it seems pricey you can get your parking back if you spend over £10 in the restaurant. Highly recommended.

Great location and great food along with very friendly but also very professional service. Been here plenty of times but always go back as it's a lovely place and it serves great food. The service is excellent with some very seasoned staff that have been keeping customers happy there for years and they they are a credit to the place as much as the food is.

We usually absolutely love this place and stop to have a drink outside every time we are in the lakes. We decided to eat there one evening after a family member bought us vouchers for Christmas. We were so disappointed with the food. We had burgers and the quality was terrible for the price. The bun was soggy from all the sauce and the chicken was grisly. Given the hotel appears classy, I expected the food to match up but I have eaten nicer food in cheap chain restaurants. The service wasn’t great either, not much interaction from the staff and the tables needed a good wipe down. The pub got rowdy about 8pm and I didn’t enjoy the atmosphere. I wouldn’t have liked to be staying there for a nice relaxing evening and go down to the pub to see people shouting across the room at each other and rearranging furniture so a group of about 20 could sit together with no regard for others. Given I love the place so much I would probably return for a drink outside but definitely wont be returning for food.

Three friends (ladies in v early 60s) had a cocktail sat outside on the edge of the lake in the sunshine before spending two relaxing hours in the Spa (Twilight package). Followed by dinner in the brasserie. Jamie in the bar was so friendly and carried our cocktails outside when they were ready. Cocktails were made well and delicious. The Spa staff were excellent and it was spotless. Some of the younger Spa guests were a little potty mouthed but that’s not the fault of the Spa! We had booked to eat in the Brasserie. Service was great. The portion size was enormous (too big, we left some) and the food was delicious. The drinks list was extensive enough for us to have choice but not get bored with choosing. We enjoyed a lovely Alberino with our dinner. We were spoiled with the weather, sun on arrival followed by a gorgeous sunset. Whilst not cheap we felt it was all reasonably priced considering location.

My 3rd visit in 12 months, all 3 visits at friends invite, as a guest. Sad to be writing this, but all 3 visits have been the same. The bar area is grubby and tired, in need of a good clean, unloved, staff were numerous but inattentive, wearing scruffy jeans, un-ironed shirt and stained, dirty waistcoats. Wonder what the kitchen is like? Such a shame, as location and decor are fabulous. All 'top show' with poor management, maybe I'm old fashioned? I'll be reluctant to visit again, there are many other places locally which are managed with love, care and attention, not here for me.

It was my third (or fourth) stay here and as always was as beautiful as ever. We had a spa slot booked for 3.30 where we were able to relax in the hot tub in the spa garden with lovely views and a glass of wine and then retreated to the indoor spa area where we could relax on the loungers with a cool glass of wine from the spa cafe/bar. The room was beautiful, as they always are and this time was on the ground floor, so easily accessible to/from the spa and bar/restaurant. The staff were all lovely and friendly and you couldn’t want for more amenity wise (2 pools, sauna and steam room in both the hotel and spa areas), pool table, bar and restaurant, room service and even accommodations for those with doggies! Breakfast was beautiful, with a buffet started, followed by a hot breakfast, all very fresh and quick service. Overall perfect experience and would happily spend every weekend here!

Breakfast we were greeted and seated and the staff were chatty welcoming and attentive. Food choices were great for cooked breakfast and a buffet coffee was hot and free flowing . Cannot understand previous reviews not our experience. Sundays are very busy but quieter in the week. I am so glad we booked our accommodation at the nearby Newby bridge hotel who’s hospitality surpasses many 5 star hotels. One reason for the visit was to possibly book next time but the employees attitude, when asked if I was a resident I said no I was staying across the road she immediately said no we are fully booked! The place was empty so basically she couldn’t care a flying fig and so rude. Love to hear feedback from a senior manager to this review as I believe this stems from above. A member of staff instructed me to return to my table outside and someone would come. When someone did turn up was then told due to a lack of staff I would have to order drinks from the bar! On returning inside I was asked if I was a resident, when I said no I was told in no uncertain terms that I couldn't order drinks as they were too busy............Their own web site doesn't say anything about having to be a resident to call for a drink, just the opposite. Suffice to say that after many years of calling (for drinks and meals) at this establishment I won't be doing so again. I am local to the area and I will definitely be telling all my visitors not to bother with them either.

There was a recommendation to eat here in our rental cottage folder so we were very much looking forward to our meal, albeit a late lunch at 3.15pm as an earlier table was not available. The Swan website states that they love their gins and have a wide selection. We asked the bar man what the selection was (or if there was a gin menu) to be told they're all behind the bar. All very well if we were allowed to go up to the bar and look but in these times we're are not allowed to do so and could not see the selection. My daughter was offered the gin of the month which she said yes to as nothing else was offered. Our mains were mediocre at best with one main arriving 7 mins after the other 3. With desserts at £7.50 each we decided to cut our loses and leave.I do understand that establishments are under huge strain at the moment and have taken this into account when writing this review. However, courtesy, friendliness and decent service costs nothing. We maybe tourists but your business runs on our business!First time ever I have left a restaurant without leaving a tip. . . y The Swan entregó.

We elected to eat outside. Found the location beautiful despite the wasps, clearly not the hotel's fault but warning, they are abundant outside this time of year. The meal was relatively expensive £60 for two of us starters and mains with only 1 alcoholic drink. Despite this, fairly average food. Mac and cheese croquettes sounded really interesting but failed to deliver on flavour for me. Burger was pretty average for the high price tag, patties were too large and subsequently overcooked. Nothing special about the fries or coleslaw; suspect both pre prepared.I had a pint of the Wainwright it was extremely flat. Underused pump maybe. Perhaps should to invest some time in the bar maintenance ensure the pumps are clean and the beer is fresh.Eaten better in Wetherspoons to be honest.

Called two days in a row to book a table. Nobody ever answered the phone. Day 3. Held on for 10 minutes and was brutally told the restaurant was fully booked. On the way home from a fab day out and a fab lunch at the Bellfield Hotel in Bowness, where the food and service was exceptional. We popped into the Swan for a drink by the river. Outside 90% of the tables were empty. Went inside to buy some drinks and inside it was pretty quiet too. I was told that I could not have dri ks in the hotel if I was not a resident and wish out booking !!! Booking for a Riverside drink. Not only that I told him that I'd been in there for a drink the night before and he told me that he was sorry that I should not have been served before. There is either: 1. some serious staff training issues here? 2. The management really couldn't care less? 3. This hotel restaurant and bar have so much business that they couldn't care less.I think it's all 3. Careful how you treat people if you want to stay in business.

We booked a table at the restaurant in the Swan Inn for a special meal and it was disastrous from start to finish. We were told that we had been given a table in the brasserie and not the restaurant as we had not specified on booking. An option wasn’t given at booking and we were told that we had to say where was given as the restaurant was full. We were led to a dirty table in the brasserie where we were left for 30 minutes before anybody took a drinks order. Our starters arrived and we were not given any cutlery. My husband asked a waitress what white wine was available only for her to walk away and not come back. The food was overcooked and overpriced. The service was shocking from start to finish and the staff did not seem concerned with our dissatisfaction. Hotel is in a lovely setting and decorated beautifully it is just a shame that such care has not been taken to train staff on how to provide a simple service. Would advise against visiting and I certainly won’t be returning and have told family members not to waste their money!!

Evening meal here yesterday. Let me start by saying the food was great, and the setting is fantastic. But .... the service was very very poor. We had to wait an age for everything, food order, starter, main, plates to be removed etc etc. I got sick of waiting for our main course plates to be removed and we just got up and ended up asking tor the bill there was no way we were waiting another 30mins for a dessert. There seem to be plenty of staff milling around, with the majority having a chat behind the bar or just generally having a wander. Family on the table behind us waited 25 mins for their order to be taken. We will not be going back any time soon. Which is a shame as its in a sulerb location.

Booked for afternoon tea. Was early but this wasn’t a problem. Was served quickly and efficiently and the food was lovely, just the right amount. Plenty of tea and coffee to go with it and a glass of Prosecco. Sat outside afterwards by the river as it was a sunny day. Thoroughly enjoyed it

What a gorgeous afternoon we have had. The Sunday lunch was completely delicious, best we have had. Staff were wonderful and attentive and very respectful of social distancing. Husband said his gammon was like the fillet steak of gammon with a huge duck egg placed on top. Absolute perfection. Well done The swan, looking forward to coming back!

We were not staying in the hotel but went to the Brasserie Restaurant for our dinner in the evening. It was delicious. I had the Cheese Soufflé to start which was amazing and so tasty. Compliments to the chef on that one. Best one every had. The rest of our dinner was very good too. A lovely atmosphere considering the situation at present and tables well distanced and everything very clean. Service was very good too and pleasant staff. Would recommend it.We did not stay in the hotel so cannot answer many of the questions below but the hotel looks amazing in reception.

We visit here as often as we can. It's under new management and the new owners are very much building on the great work of the previous owners. Things are a bit different due to covid at the moment, but the team have made the bar area very welcoming. The menu is a bit shorter as a result, but still packed with great things. Check out the treacle-covered gammon if you can - it's amazing.

Couldn't fault this place for me personally great platter for starters and then lovely meal. Staff friendly and following guidelines. I did have to wait for mains but after a full 2 person platter to myself I needed the break, staff very apologetic and it's to be expected during these times.

Whilst staying in the area on holiday, we booked to have an evening meal as a break from self catering and excited to be able to eat out again. Staff were friendly and place was COVID-19 safe. After arrival and pre dinner drinks the service dipped somewhat and we had to ask for our order to be taken and chase up the water we’d asked for. However the food made up for slow service. Potted shrimp tasted amazing, steak was spot on, and salmon generous and perfectly cooked. Complements to the chef!

When visiting the area for a weekend , we decided to book in to the Swan hotel restaurant for a special night out for my husbands birthday as it looked really special and we loved the decor. On arrival, despite there being free tables in the main dining area we were shown to a tiny cramped table under the stairs with bench seating meaning we couldn’t sit facing each other. Menu pretty uninspiring ( a step up from pub grub and hugely overpriced) We decided to share the flat breads with hummus and olives to start with. The humus was described as being sprinkled with Dukkah seeds however when it arrived it was also covered in cashew and hazelnuts. I am allergic to nuts!! No mention of this on the menu. When I pointed this out to the waitress I was offered an alternative but would have expected the maitre d’ who was hovering around other tables, to have come over to apologise. 3 days later there is still no mention on the web site of this meal containing nuts so I can only assume the hotel management have no regard for people nut allergies . Main courses lacked both flavour and finesse and we left half of our meals which went without comment to staff taking our plates away. We were not offered a dessert menu so after a half hour wait we asked for the bill...twice. On paying we were not asked if we enjoyed our meal, just relieved of our money with no comment. If you like great service, delicious food and have a nut allergy I suggest you don’t eat here. The Swan appears to be a classic case of style over substance!

We went to the swan on Fri the 28th of Feb 2020 for a family meal.We ordered Americano coffee with warm milk the coffee came in mugs like you would get in a truck stop!! And we got cold milk price approx £8.50 for 3 coffees ! The coffee was barely hot. The menu was very expensive. We ordered sandwiches and chips it was extra for side salad the sandwiches where very bland with no seasoning and the bread just fell to bits nothing was tasty total shame. we could have made nicer sandwiches at home we definitely would not rush back!! Not value for money the eating area was cold .you expect when you eat out to get a good product and enjoy your day out wish we had eaten else where very poor.

Hotel allows day trippers on £10 entry into the ‘Spa’ this mean the place is packed out with families not staying there during the day. We checked in with the robotic receptionist at 14.45 to be told the room was only ‘guaranteed’ to be available at 15.00. So we had a pint (£7.90 for 1 1/2 pints) in what is best described as the crèche. Went went back to the robotic receptionist at 15.15 only to be told our room was not available... Anyway we hung about reception not wanting to return to the crèche/ bar for 15 mins. Finally we were allowed in the room. I was determined to give the ‘Luxury spa’ a go. Was greeted by no big towels being available or robes probably due to It being heaving with dozens of families who’d paid £10 entry for the day. The ‘Luxury spa’ facilities resembles the public baths back home. I braved the crowds with the towel I was offered which resembled a handkerchief. Very very disappointing after paying £230 for 1 night. On the plus side, room was lovely and breakfast and it’s its staff were perfect. Note to the management- if you are going to sell the hotel as a luxury hotel and spa and charge £230/night DONOT invite all comers for £10!!! Highlight of my stay was getting home without veruca’s.

From checking in,too checking out was a pleasure. We got a deal on a one night stay as it was just a little January treat. All the staff were brilliant and attentive. The room we had was fantastic , and pitch black on a night and hardly any noise coming from anywhere. There was everything you’d expect in there. My only criticism, and this is minor, was there was only 2 pillows each, again, a minor gripe, and dare I say, if we were stopping longer, I would have asked reception. The food was superb, and the breakfast was too. I will be returning again.

I recently went to The Swan with my family for Sunday dinner, and sadly I wont be rushing back any time soon... First off the restaurant 'lost' our reservation meaning we were placed in a unfriendly cold corner of the restaurant (admittedly they turned on a small radiator). The main issue was the service, everything took an age to arrive. Having all ordered Sunday dinner (on a sunday) we thought it would have arrived fairly quickly, after circa 50mins our food arrived (after asking the waiter). Upon our food arriving we ordered more drinks, although these didn't arrive until after we'd finished our meal! They only arrived as I'd chased them up and subsequently cancelled the round of drinks. Dessert was exactly the same. We all ordered from the set Sunday menu and were limited to a choice of 1 dessert (sticky toffee pudding). This took 45 minutes to arrive! All the chef will of done was place the dessert in a microwave and place a scope of ice cream on the side. Shouldn't of taken so long! Overall experience - extremely slow service, however food was very nice. Wont be rushing back for the amount of money you pay for food/drink. Numerous others have said the same...

3 of us had Christmas lunch at the Swan. I booked as early as possible and got a 1pm slot, but it was already packed when we arrived do I guess there must’ve been a 12pm sitting. The service was a bit slow but acceptable considering the amount of people there. The pumpkin ravioli stater was delicious, the turkey main was tasty and the Christmas pudding was nicely light and the brandy sauce was nice. One of our party enjoyed the salmon en croute and also said the chocolate desert they had was one of the tastiest ever (and they don’t normally like deserts). I think it descended into chaos later as there were 400 people booked in. I know people who have been previously as well as this year. They went later and said it was fine but much busier than previously. The management need to consider what they are capable of staffing for next year as it looks like they just tried to cram as many people in as possible and may have had some less favourable reviews. £65 per head seems quite expensive but some local pubs were more than that if not a lot more in some cases. I’ll be hopefully cooking at home again next year as I missed the leftovers too much.

He had a lovely stay at the hotel, arriving early, our room was available to us, there is ample parking and early access to the pool area was offered. There is a interesting mix of staff, in particular the age range, all of which were very professional and friendly. The breakfast was as advertised “a full English” my wife opted for the pancakes with fruit & honey etc, a full range of juice, cereal, toast etc were also available from the self service tables.

Disappointed. Maybe expectations were too high. Only place we have ever been where the wife disliked the Pinot - vinegary! She did enjoy her Lamb Shank though to be fair. Service was OK. My meal was OK, not brilliant, even though it was the highest price on the menu. Service on the night was excellent with pretty much all main courses being served at thd same time. However... was not amused by being told to book at least two courses each ("as we would be taking most of the place"). We had already paid a large deposit and it turned out that they had so many other customers one couple had to dine in the overflow area. Basically two of us are not really starter/sweet diners and in the end the second course I chose (cheese and biscuits) was extremely disappointing for the price. Overall - I probably wouldn't recommend, which is a shame because everywhere else we ate or drank at in the area I would definitely return to. Parking is extremely difficult so if you can walk there, I would suggest doing so.
