Having met friends for a walk at Fyne Court we decided to call in for some lunch afterwards. What a little gem! Beautiful pub, clean and well presented. Cheerful helpful staff, good menu which catered for our Vegan and Gluten free friends. We would definitely visit again

We had an enjoyable Sunday roast lunch today at The Swan at Kingston, hosted by Josh & Teiya and their helpful team. My father-in-law who is a frequent 'Sunday luncher' in his home county of Wilts was heard to say, "That is the best sunday roast i have enjoyed in years!" The Swan, we were told is a traditional British village pub, dating back to the 17th century. It was a delight to see many original features, including the welcoming log burning hearth and ancient timbers. We arrived a few minutes before noon, which enbled us to enjoy the large pub garden just opposite 'the pods' which we used several years ago for an evening meal during the covid era. Good to eat and drink in there during summertime showers! We can thoroughly recommend The Swan and compliment Josh & Teiya for the great job they are doing :-)

Some of the meals were okay and others definitely under standard. One fried cod half batter with no fish. Barnsley lamb chops supposed to be slow cooked. More like defrosted in microwave, cooked there super fast and then slapped on a griddle on one side for a minute. Completely tasteless and tough with no crispy lamb skin and no seasoning. Very poor meal for price. Probably worst lamb out I have ever had. Chocolate Brownie very good. Consistency seems to be the issue. Lovely pub though with a nice ambience.

We hadn’t been before but had heard the food was excellent. There is a varied menu and our vegetarian lactose/gluten free person was accommodated. Young staff but very welcoming. Nice atmosphere in a full pub so we were happy. Until the food came that is! Two of us had the sea bass with risotto. The sea bass was overcooked and the risotto hard! Totally inedible so we told the staff expecting them to do something? But the chef had gone home so the kitchen was closed??? They apologised but nothing they could do! So 3 had dinner and 2 didn’t! Unbelievable! We couldn’t even go anywhere else as some were eating! What a disaster! The chef must have known the hash made of our food so to leave as soon as we were served was pretty disgusting! It goes without saying we won’t be returning!

We called at this Inn on the way back from Taunton for Sunday lunch and luckily they were still serving their Sunday roast dinners at nearly 2.30pm.The food was good quality and lovely and hot and came with gravy and mintsauce as we had lamb. The food was plentiful and we couldn't have a sweet to full.The Inn has been refurbished recently and has a lovely atmosphere and is under new management who are very friendly. There was a very good bar service with many regulars in for a Sunday drink and meal. We will probably try a and call again for Dinner.

After a few visits to the Swan at the beginning of the year, I was a bit apprehensive, but they have definitely now got everything right. The food is typical pub food, but it was excellent and six of us enjoyed the meal. As it's our local, we'll be back again very soon.

We were out for the day and stumbled across this little gem. Just went in for Sunday lunch and boy was I amazed. Roast Beef and all the trimmings was truly amazing. I can seriously cook and this was better than eating at home. Staff were smart and friendly. Oldie worldy pub, nice atmosphere. Would recommend, and that’s a serious recommendation!!! Didn’t try the real ale as I was driving but there was a few on offer.

We held our Annual Dinner last evening (16 January 2019) in the convivial atmosphere of the recently refurbished Swan in Kingston St Mary, Taunton TA2 8HW. Although the Chef had only been in post for just two days he ably catered for our group of twenty-six. The food was delicious and well presented and the service was excellent. Everything went off without a hitch and we all thoroughly ourselves.

We popped in yesterday after going for a walk in the local area for a drink and a bite to eat. The lunch menu was basic, paninis, baked spuds and the like but very well priced and a good wholesome quantity as well. The New Years day menu looked pretty good too and again reasonably priced. There seems to be a good selection of ales from St Austell and Dartmoor breweries. The pub has obviously recently been refurbished but has retained a lot of its charm, open fire and so on. When we are in the area again we would definitely go back.

The Swan looks so much better since it was refurbished! We dropped in on a cold and rainy Sunday night and were met with warm smiles and a lovely big roaring fire. The interior was clean and open as well as very much more comfortable. Lovely bar staff who couldn’t do enough and a good range of drinks and bar snacks. The kitchen was closed and it’s clear that that the menu needs to be overhauled and a permanent chef recruited...but...we were both inclined to be patient while the new owners get themselves sorted out. Village pubs are good for all of us and this one is making a great start in modernising itself. We all had to start somewhere!!! We look forward to seeing what a settled chef and kitchen there can offer .

Freezing cold pub no fire on its December !!! You need to ware thermals if you are thinking of dining here.Warmth is a basic need if you can't get that right you have no chance.

Visited for first meal since refurb taking a chance with London friends. Roast plentiful, lots perfectly cooked veg and all good quality, starter mussels delicious and enough for main meal and puddings fab. Well priced and friendly good service. I’m fussy and I loved it will defo return.

We were taken out for a meal by friends. Their treat. Firstly the steak had all gone.disappointed hubby We waited an hour 20 minutes for our meal .we could only see four other tables eating . Two of the meals were virtually inedible. A very strange risotto resembling ambrosia rice pudding with aneamic chicken. Drizzled in a pink jus we could not identify. My friends couldn't eat it. My Duck was greasy and over cooked . The young waiter was apologetic. It wasn't his fault. Puddings were OK. What a shame . We won't revisit .

Lovely refurb. I have lived locally for years and it is good to see our local refurbished. The staff are friendly and so are the new owners. But please can you do a more traditional menu. The food is excellent and the price reflects that. But it would be nice to have pub grub as well. I would eat there a lot more

Having lived in Kingston for many years we used the Swan frequently. This week we met our old friends and neighbours for lunch in the newly reopened Swan. It was dire and without doubt as bad as bad could be. A very, very limited choice of food, the only ‘special’ was removed quickly. The sea bass portion was small and over cooked and probably started life in Iceland! The chips were clearly frozen and tasteless and the only vegetable, the peas clearly were from the freezer. So much for the ‘home’ cooking! A total disaster and not recommended. Save your time and money and go elsewhere.

A couple of weeks ago my wife and I decided to try the Swan for the first time in over a year. The staff are so much friendlier than last time we were there and I understand there has been a change of management.

We escaped a rainy Sunday afternoon for a few drinks and a lovely cheeseboard! The new owners seem lovely ( we were so disappointed last time we stayed locally at Mill Meadow- amazing lodges! As the owner was so rude, didn’t really want our custom at all or to give us a table

Friendly staff. Had Sunday lunch which was lovely but actually did not think it was enough to eat. Also thought it was a little bit overpriced. We will visit again when it opens after a refurbishment when we can try the full menu as on a Sunday it’s only roast.

Visited the Swan while on a family holiday in the area. Solid pub food and our large group (9) was dealt with warmly. I would visit again if in the area.

Arrived with a warm greeting from very friendly staff, had a new cook in with a nice selection of food. Wow just wow, the owners took over 4 months ago and the chef arrived a week ago and what a chef he is. One of the best meals I have ever eaten, I'd get in there quick, they are undercharging for the fantastic quality, I asked to meet the chef to thank him, I invited him to move in with my husband and I but he sadly declined, it's a good job I don't live locally, I would eat all my meals there, thank you again

We ate here on Wednesday night the food and atwo spare was excellent, my wife is gluten free and was offered six different dishes. It was really a lovely evening with good food and service.

My meal was over-priced. The steak was small, the mushrooms hard (?nuked in the microwave) and salad with bits of old soggy lettuce leaves. No apology when complaint made to staff. I understand that the pub is under new management - the food was much better on my previous visit 1 year ago.

Usual pub fare, but that’s all we wanted. Good choice from the menu, excellent quality and well presented. Service is good, they seem to have a system and it works.

If you like traditional pubs with a roaring fire and great pub food, come here, it has all of those things!!! If you’re hoping for gastropub, you’ll be disappointed. This is a very traditional pub; a kind that’s often hard to find. If I had one criticism, it’s that they could do with some heating in the women’s loos; they are literally freezing-but everything else makes up for it!!

Our first visit to the neighbourhood, but the landlord made us feel as if we were (almost) locals. The food was great and although we were a mixed group with a wide range of tastes and needs, we were served without delays. A most pleasant experience.

We were a party of eleven people, one family having a get-together. Our (pre-arranged) orders were delivered to the table soon after we sat, and served one after the other, no hold ups. Very nice young lady (who could be a recent addition to the staff?) served us in a very pleasant manner.

Entramos a la 1 de la tarde, antes de que apenas entrar por la puerta, el barman me dijo: "no hay comida hoy, nos dijo que sólo quiere una copa por favor mate? Bien mal! ! ! ! A lo que respondió. . Se sentó - me sentí muy raro, todo el mundo buscando! ! ! ! Fuimos al bar a por una segunda bebida - barman dijo 'les lleve gafas de vuelta antes de que otro! ! ! Wow lo maleducados - pensamos! ! ! ! Entonces él dijo que están cerrando en 20 minutos! ! ! Nos dijo que sí que está bien que estará terminada! ! ! 10 minutos después de que pedimos la gente era todavía un problema sin pedir bebidas! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Visitamos el Cisne durante un viaje de negocios para cenar una noche. Tengo que decir que no esperes el Ritz, pero lo que conseguí fue un servicio muy eficiente, el chico detrás de la barra me hizo sentir bienvenido como un diner, y buena comida casera. Ambiente agradable, lo recomiendo.

Este país quantock pub ahora nos ha proporcionado con almuerzo en más de ocasiones suficientes para saber que nos van a conseguir el tipo de atención, y la comida, que nos describe como atractiva en nuestro perfil. Mejor que muchos, tan bueno como cualquier otro.

Hemos comido aquí dos veces. Excelente comida y servicio en ambas ocasiones. Esta vez éramos un grupo de 9 niños incluidos y la comida aún salió bien cocinada y juntos. Había 9 platos limpio, lo cual es muy raro. Sin duda lo recomiendo.

Came to this pub for a birthday treat lunch for my 90 year old mother. Barman wasn't in the most cheerful of moods but eventually served us our drinks and then we sat down and browsed the menu. I had the Sirloin Steak which while being cooked well, was pretty tasteless in truth, particularly the peppercorn source which was more or less a waste of money. Our other meals included a fish and chips, pan-fried duck and a ham, egg and chips, which were all pleasant as expected. We later ordered more drinks at the bar and the barman charged us for a bottle of water when we made it clear that tap water would suffice, which was a little naughty. To summarise: a nice lunch in a comfortable village pub though the service in particular could do with some improvement

Met up here today for a family get together. All the food we had except the fish and chips were very good. We all have bad days, however the chips and mushy peas were delicious!Great range of beers.Only disappointment was lack of availability of certain desserts, the puds that we could order were divine!Our waitress had great sense of humour. The Landlord came and apologised about the fish, took it off the bill, so nice about it!We will go again. Thank you.

driven past this pub a 100 times, so thought it was about time I called in. Had a great pint of ale and some lunch, which was only a baguette but still good.Looking at the hot meals which were coming out of the kitchen, I think I will return for dinner next time.

'The food is good honest and tasty, the BEST food in 'my opinion' in Taunton and we've tried them all The staff are friendly and helpful, owners Les 'behind the bar' and Hilary 'the chef' are the BEST we was so full after our main course we couldn't eat desert so we asked if we could have a take away as we didn't want to miss out on the lovely desert and that was no trouble at all, because of their good nature we was sent off with a lovely desert 'well worth it' and two dishes that we can't wait to return, just what you need these days of the lack of Customer Service in most places, like I said THE BEST!!!

Seven of us met up there for dinner on a Saturday night (pre-booked ). On arrival the landlord informed us he would do one bill and proceeded to tell us what was off the menu ! The brie and red onion confit pie for instance turned out to be some sort muffin/brioche with cranberry sauce from a jar and a few slices of brie on top. When it came to settle up we were told none of us could part-pay by card! Later four of us wanted to stay a little longer and ordered coffee. This turned out to be a challenge almost too much for Grumpy Landlord though coffee did materialise eventually. However a second coffee order was refused half an hour later.

Good service, good food and a great variety of beers. Especially liked the Jail Ale. Many other s available including Doombar.

Came across this pub on our way to Fyne Court and as it was lunchtime we popped in. What a lovely friendly cosy pub with an open fire and comfortable setting. A good variety on the menu with some unusual choices. My wife had a superb home made curry and I had faggots mash and peas which was fantastic. The whole meal very reasonably priced and the service was excellent. Easy parking in this Pub situated in a charming village near National Trust walks at Fyne Court. Incidently we were told the meats were locally sourced at the Riverside butchers in Taunton. I enjoyed my faggots so much that I went off later in the afternoon and bought some from the butchers to take home and freeze.

Have lived locally for over 20 years and visited several times. The food is lovely, good traditional pub food BUT, the welcome is non existent. The final straw and what has prompted me to write this is what happened on Wednesday. My husband and I arrived at 1.50 hoping for a bite to eat after we had completed 5 miles walking. There was no welcome, just a ...."if your wanting food, we've finished serving, finished at 1.45" there were still plenty of people eating and we enquired whether we could just have a cold sandwich. We were told it was all cleared away. Swift clearing work in 5 minutes. No desire to see what could be rustled up. No engaging with us. This has been the sort of manner we have experienced in this pub before. I won't be trying it again.
