Absolutely beautiful little restaurant, amazing fish and chips. Held fond memories for my lovely boyfriend who visits often.

This place is just absolutely amazing 👏👏👏👏👏 I have been coming here for well over 15 years.. The food is just the best!! Everything on menu is lovely.. Above all though- the staff here are incredible.Without doubt this place has the friendliest,most helpful and polite staff I've ever witnessed anywhere.. I reserved a table yesterday for my child's birthday- she too has come here since she was a baby! And when we got to restaurant they had a birthday balloon and card on our table!! They even sung happy birthday to her with the cake I'd provided.. It was memorable and so lovely- it meant so much to feel such kindness from staff we are so familiar with.. Thank you Helen for arranging and to all at the Swan- Isla LOVED what you did for her!!! Many thanks 💖💖💖

This is a traditional fish and chips establishment. I had their Haddock meal and my wife had Cod. The fish was cooked to perfection, seriously, it could not be better. The chips were also well cooked. The Swan is our go-to dining establishment because the food is consistently good.

What a hidden gem this place is. I went with my husband for dinner as I had been told to try it and we definitely weren’t disappointed as the food was absolutely amazing. The portion sizes and price were unbelievable, I couldn’t even eat all my meal. We will definitely be returning.

Has to be the best chippy in Southport and beyond. Consistently delicious food. Amazing staff who even when run off their feet are the friendliest people ever. Got to give a big shout out to Annie who makes us feel more like friends rather than customers x

Decided to try this place after reading the reviews. The portions were small for the price and the fish was a bit fishy tasting, but it was pretty good. Didn’t live up to the hype.

What a place to go - absolutely a Golden Star in the Chip Shop World. We called in here on a Sunday afternoon having had family recommend it and I can honestly say this place is a gem. We were warmly greeted by Annie and then shown to a table and Annie was so friendly and helpful. Choice of food is excellent and it’s all cooked freshly for you. We all, including my 8 year old daughter went for the Fish & Chips, they all did the small plate offering and I went for the larger portion. I’ve always been a bit funny with fish but honestly I have never experienced fish so tasty, fresh and white and the batter was also just right. We all devoured the food and Annie kept making sure we were ok and didn’t need anything else. The atmosphere is also welcoming and it is kept clean and tidy and all the other staff were again friendly and pleasant. Annie really did stand out though and we will certainly be back again for what I consider to be the BEST Fish & Chips in Southport.

I visit The Swan fish and chips restaurant regularly, most Sundays, when in Southport. Usually have cod, chips and carrots when I visit and a milky coffee. The food is fresh and delicious here. The staff are great and very caring. Prices are great too. Would recommend. I always give my tip to Annie When I visit. See you again soon.

I’ve been wanting to go to this chippy for a while and glad I went. Excellent specialty cod and chips with the side of mushy peas and a few slices of bread. Personally, best fish and chips I’ve had in Southport. Friendly staff and great value for money too 👏🏻

As a Scot, I’m a little bit fussy about my chipper suppers, but The Swan is up there with the best. We got a warm friendly welcome and our server was first class - I think her name was Bea. The place was busy and that’s always a good sign. My other half had the cod supper, and I had the delicious homemade steak pie. Our meals were piping hot and faultless. We were £22.50 for two suppers including drinks, mushy peas, gravy and curry sauce. We would have paid probably double that in Scotland.

Went for lunch today, very busy so we had to queue for a while but the waitresses were very efficient and made sure everyone was seated as tables became available. We ordered our usual, three Cod specials. Food, as usual was lovely, but two of the fish we received were very small to the extent of us calling a waitress over to ask if we'd be given their small fish in error. We were told that no, these are our large cod, and it's done on weight, sometimes they can look small because of the large plate ?? One of our fish was just about of an acceptable size but it dwarfed the other two which were goujon size. We sat there wondering how these could be considered 'large' when our original waitress came over and asked how our meal was so we again pointed out the size of the fish. She replied virtually word for word as the other waitress, makes me wonder if they have been told what to say when regular customers ask the same question ? It's a shame if this is something they are now doing as the food, including the bit of fish we had was delicious, and the staff were their usual friendly selves. The vast majority of customers in there at the time were elderly with perhaps smaller appetites but anyone else would have certainly felt disappointed with the portion served. We will be trying another chippy in the resort next time

Love coming to the Swan every so often when we feel like a really good chippy as it is quality. Great set meal price to eat in and great service . Can’t fault it.

This is surely the best fish and ships in Southport. The fish is beautiful and white cooked in a light batter coating. Highly recommented.

I have left numerous reviews about the swan, all good of course. I've been coming here since I was a small boy (I'm now 52) with my grand parents, then my dad and now my son. Theres a reason why. It's good food elevated to superb food. What they do, they do right. From being greeted when you arrive to when they say goodbye. Everything on the menu is delicious. If your a fan of a good old chippy fayre, then treat yourself and come here. You will not regret it. It was a Friday afternoon service and the place was packed out. Thankyou once again the swan for providing a fantastic meal ❤️

We went the Swan on a recommendation and it was excellent, we got fish, chips, mushy peas and a side of curry sauce, the fish was crisp and white and the portions are quite big too and with complimentary bread and butter. We will definatley return to the Swan.

Been to a few fish and chip shops lately having visited Whitby for a winter break. Been going to “the swan chippy” now for many years and very happy to say the Yorkshire chippys can’t lace the Swan’s boots. Food - great Service - great Price - great So glad you are on our doorstep! Went on friends recommendation, lovely food, clean and tidy inside,staff lovely, only bugbear went down path to the entrance off Lord street by the side of the Bold hotel and it was badly littered mainly by cigarette ends a bit off putting!

Always had great Fish & Chips from here over the years, but today's was the worst I've had, the fish was smaller than normal, tasteless and watery, the curry wasn't as thick as I've had on previous visits, it seemed like it had been watered down, the only thing that was good was the chips, I won't be returning in a hurry & if your thinking of visiting over the Bank Holiday weekend I wouldn't bother, Id go elsewhere

I'm very fussy on my fish and chips but the swan restaurant always delivers. The staff are friendly and always ask after my wife, the remember our orders and even salt and vinegar preference (we do probably go more than we should!) If you're visiting southport this is the place to get your traditional chippy take away!

After searching trip advisor for best chippy in Southport this did not disappoint and certainly deserves the title in my opinion. Best fish & chips we had I can remember, perfect portion beautifully cooked fish and well presented for a takeaway. Happy days

I always come here for Haddock & chips before going to events at the Atkinson, either at night or for lunch. Good old fashioned eat in section, friendly and fast waiting staff, good value meals. Fish always huge, you can opt for a smaller portion, I regret to say perhaps that is best unless you have a very big appetite, I never finish it all!! I look forward to visiting Southport again after lockdown, and will make a beeline to the Swan!! Be careful not to miss the opportunity, at the top of Lord St row of shops, entrance to the right of the art shop, also an entrance on the otherside on Bath Street ideal for holidaymakers!

Oh dear, tonight we chose the Swan which we often do. We ordered several items but when unpacked we were missing 2 large sausages. My wife had another 6 mile round trip and found herself at the back of a queue of 10 customers. Unfortunately it’s an outside queue in the rain. She finally gave up and went to Fylde road chippy for 2 sausages which added another 2 miles to the journey. Not sure if we were charged for the sausages at the Swan but the order was read off a text message so unlikely my partner got that wrong. These things happen but it’s a big inconvenience, my son fell asleep waiting and hasn’t eaten, and although we ate it after a tickle in the microwave, it just wasn’t as nice as usual. Wasting time wasting money. If the staff spent another 30 seconds checking then this can be avoided, a completely flat experience. I’m all for supporting your local business but it works both ways.

Had cod chips peas tea B and B last saturday.This place had been recommended. We were disappointed sadly.We were given far too may chips which were pale needed more cooking ,the fish wasnt great either more batter than fish and the fish was tasteless ,the peas were stodgy. However the real was ok .Sorry Swan ,on the positive side it would have been good value if we had enjoyed it .

What more can you say than fish, chips, mushy peas, bread & butter & pot of tea for £7.25 to eat in and serviced fab and all covid measures brill making you feel really safe while eating a delicious fish & chips! The fish was so tasty and the batter light and crispy but not too crispy and not fatty either, the chips were just as chip shop chips should be and the mushy peas were not dry or hardly any as get in some places, but just as they should be nice and moist and plenty of them, delicious. All covid measures very well done and couldnt fault the staff or their measures. Came on my own not long before lockdown during the day as hubby was having fish & chips at his work that day. I sent him photos of mine and he was envious of it! He said where is that, cos I gonna have to come with you for that and then of course lockdown came so it will now have to wait to eat in there and I am sure he will really enjoy it and it will become our eating in chippy despite there being one within walking distance to our house, would prefer to drive to this and find somewhere to park and get a fab fish & chips!

The set up for a Covid safe environment seemed to be very good and the staff were very friendly and polite.Unfortunately the food was ‘Just okay’, everything seemed a little undercooked - the batter on the fish a little soggy, chips the same and the peas were ‘firm’.Have visited here a number of times over the years, and in the past has been great, but on the past couple of occasions it has been ‘just okay’.

We visited for a snack and a hot drink during a rainy day. Staff observing covid restrictions, wearing masks, table distancing etc taking names and contact details. Lovely friendly staff, great food, reasonable prices. A family with four children came in and needed a highchair.. no problem. I certainly, recommend.

Had the jumbo sausage meal (jumbo sausage, chips, mushy peas and gravy) to take away.Bargain at £3.95.Everything about it was spot on, loads of gravy and the mushy peas were the best I've had from a chippy in ages.I'll be back for fish and chips (with curry!) next time. Can't wait.

Simply an excellent old fashioned chippy with good old fashioned service. Delicious food at a reasonable price and an absolute must for anyone having a trip to the seaside!

I looked on Google for restaurants in Southport that did fish and chips and this came out on top. So arrived and tried this evening , and can I say the food was amazing !!! I had the haddock which you can have with chips or boiled potatoes so fir a change I chose the latter, also cane with mushy peas or carrots if you prefer, Mum had Plaice and my wife who is an extremely fussy eater tried the homemade steak pie , she said it was wonderful , and not a piece of gristle or fat to be seen .There are Perspex dividers between all the tables and the restaurant is spotless.Three main course , which come with peas or carrots and bread and butter please tea/ coffee or soft drink and one rhubarb crumble and custard ( which was sooo nice) Came to £30 , we will be returning again , probably tomorrow. I would recommend this place to anyone and wonderfully friendly staff too !!!

Visited on a sunny Saturday afternoon. There was a small queue outside to maintain social distancing. Service was quick and efficient . The food was delicious - freshly cooked and not greasy at all.Highly recommended. On our next visit I will definitely be trying out the attached restaurant.

Been going to the Swan for years nearly every week, We sat inside we really missed our Fish and chips during lockdown, but has we have about a 12 mile journey we left it till early August. We have had 4 takeaways now and every one was fantastic we sit in the car outside Hesketh Park to eat them and hopefully, we have not sat in as yet but hopefully one day soon.It is the best fish and chips in Southport .,

Went here after a family day out in Southport today to mark the end of the school holiday. Promised the kids fish and chips. After a previous horrible experience with fish and chips in Blackpool, I was a bit wary. However, this place delivered quality! It was spot on with piping hot food, a lovely pot of tea and great service. My 9 year old polished off a big haddock and chips! .We will be back for our tea one evening!

Our Family have used this chip shop & Resturant for 55 yrs, it changed hands around thirty years ago I think, but the standards have remained the same.Very good Fish chips n peas on every visit for 55 years and have never been disappointed, the next best chippy ( the Quayside in Whitby ) but it will cost you double £££ . keep up the good work , Stay-Safe And Thank You all. 3 years after our 1st visit, we finally made it back to this little gem of a chippy! This time we didn’t eat in but chose takeaway.The food was still amazing! Just how we all remembered it! Superb fish, fresh cooked, tasty hot chips and side accompaniments!Brilliant portion size and value & kids meals portion size was generous and fantastic value!Still 5 stars!!! We came here today as recommended by my partner's mum and I'm so glad we did. The food here is much better than the fish and chips you'd get near the pier or amusements, and the portions are really generous. I unfortunately couldn't finish mine but it was a proper seaside tea. I had scampi which you could tell was good quality stuff, and the other three in my group had the fish which they all commented on as being lovely.The staff were all really friendly and welcoming, proper service with a smile, and we felt safe whilst eating as they've adhered to government guidelines with covid, even having a separate entrance and exit to avoid customers coming into close contact.I'll definitely visit again and recommend it to anyone I know that visits Southport.Thank you!

The only place to go in Southport for fish & chips, I’ve been here with my family for 40+ years from being the grandson to being the grandad, and have to call in when staying, great value for money and top quality Fish, the staff in the restaurant are the icing on the Cake always pleasant and professional, was served by Jess this time, who was so attentive you couldn’t get better service in a top London restaurant, well done ! Have to say I am particularly pleased with myself for lurking in local Facebook pages and finding out where the locals go... Haha! But aside from that - we stay in the Premier Inn and whilst their buffet breakfast (pre-Covid) is great, we're not keen on the dinner food. Last time we went to F&B's but that's now closed so, decided we'd find the best chippy for sitting on a bench on the front. And we did. 4 x regular fish and chips for us and only me (dad) finished, great portions. And cooked to perfection. Can't praise your grub enough. Worth the drive from Manchester! Cheers to the staff serving us - really friendly. It's great when you find somewhere that's just no drama perfect. I hope you guys are recovering well and continue to after the lockdown and we'll see you next time.

Thought we'd try here due to all the excellent reviews. Would say I've had better. Fish is very small, chips were dry. Ordered mushy peas and paid £1 but when we opened the bag no mushy peas, too far to go back. Disappointed. Probably wouldn't go back.

Oh, I just can’t stop writing reviews about The Swan! As regular customers my husband and I have really missed not being able to dine there during the pandemic. However, they are back in business for takeaway meals and we had our first one last evening. It was as excellent as ever! We placed a telephone order and couldn’t believe how quick and efficient everything was run and all very safely. The food once we got it home was piping hot, fresh and delicious. Can’t wait to go back! To all the lovely staff......thank you and keep safe.

My husband and l had dinner here a few days ago, l had the cod, chips and mushypeas with tea,bread and butter, my partner had the pudding with chips etc. Thefood came quickly, was very hot and extremely tasty. The staff were very helpfuland very friendly. We will definitely be returning on our next visit to Southport.

We were recommended to come here and we weren’t disappointed. We ordered the fish, chips, mushy peas and a cup of tea offer ( with a side of curry sauce). When our meals arrived we were amazed at the portion size - the fish alone practically hung over the side of the plate, it was huge! Altogether a fantastic chippy meal and the staff were lovely too. I visited on Wednesday, mid snooker sessions. The restaurant is spotless. Friendly staff and very quick service. Wonderful fish, chips and mushy peas. Slice of bread and butter and a pot of tea included in the price. I had haddock - £9.50. Cod is £8.50. They offer a smaller portion of cod, chips and peas, which is probably what I would choose in future. Just wish I lived closer! Lovely, thanks. Jan.

Ate here in between the snooker sessions. Food was great. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. I had the breast of chicken supper, with chips, gravy and mushy peas. Hubby had the sausage supper with chips. Both were delicious and great value for the price. It's a very busy place.

Once again cannot speak highly of the best fish and chip shop in Southport indeed the North West and to be served by such a charming young lady with tattoos but do not let this put you off as she is so customer friendly. We really enjoy our visits here.

This place is great. It can be very busy but there's a good reason for that - value for money. The food tastes just as it should and the service is second to none. Been going years, fish ok , chips ok, pie very good but downside price is nuts sooo high. Go at lunch half the price and get steak pie. Eat in ok similar price to eat out but u get a chair and table. Id eat in for price if with family. Curry ok bit strong peas ok but thick.

First the good news. Fish, chips and mushy peas are excellent. Small portions of fish available to make room for the excellent desserts. Excellent service.

Not impressed, in fact very disappointed. Having visited previously on many occasions, we have since had a family member diagnosed as coeliac, so we rang previously to check there were gluten free options and were pleased to find that we could still visit. When we arrived, sat down and ordered we were told they had cross contaminated the fryer because they were busy. Very inconsiderate attitude of the owners and as a result we got up left and went to Frankie and Bennys instead. We are never coming back here and I would say to all coeliacs don’t bother just in case they are busy again and don’t care enough to make other people wait a bit!

Great plate of fish and chips and mushy peas, washed down with a mug of tea. The staff were helpful and friendly and served promptly.
