It is closed, no longer a Pub, in process of trying to be a nursery. The locals are trying to stop this as it is one of the last oldest Pubs in the area. What a shame

Went for a family Sunday roast, starters of prawns in a ginger sauce and the soup very tasty. Three of us had roast beef with roast potatoes, veg and a huge Yorkshire pudding, our son had pork belly which he said was very tender. The portions very large but we still managed a pudding. Pleasant cosy pub, the land lady very friendly, and great service from a young lady who was also chatty and friendly.

Lovely cosy pub with good beer selection. Have visited her a couple of times since moving into the local area, had lunch one week day and sat outside in the sun , pleasant quiet surroundings, good service, food ok.. 2nd visit was for sunday lunch which was disappointing, I had the roast beef and the portion of beef was 2 very thin slices and the vegetables not very generous either. 2 of our group had a pasta dish, neither of them ate it all as disappointing. Lovely venue though, friendly service, I do hope they csn improve the food as would like to go back.

Visited between Xmas and new year for lunch with a large group of friends and we were pleasantly surprised by how organised and how good the food and service was. Two large groups were also there as well and everyone in our party got the right food at the same time, a credit to the organisation of the front of house staff. I had the roast beef - delicious and just the right amount. I will be back and thoroughly recommend.

Looked so cosy. But what a sinister experience: before and after the arrival of 2 women cyclists for afternoon visit the kitchen was open but not for them! Still wondering which prejudice afflicts these staff. The cyclists had been patient , not muddy!, and polite while trying to get a drink which eventually was an option.

We moved to the Chesham area 2 years ago and although I attend an exercise class 3 times a week just up the road in Ley Hill,I didn't realise there was a pub close by, so when we decided at short notice to go out for dinner and I googled a few places and The Swan came up with really good reviews, I took a chance and booked. When we arrived there were very few people and we wondered if we had made the right decision but we were not disappointed and it was one of the best pub meals we have ever had and a really lovely evening. The landlady was very welcoming and the pub was spotlessly clean everywhere. There was a roaring fire in the inglenook, beautiful old oak beans and the lighting is so well done for such an old pub that it added to the lovely atmosphere despite it not being very busy. The food was absolutely delicious. 2 of us had the steak and kidney pie that was so full of tender meat that they struggled to finish it and I had the best pork belly ever with crunchy crackling and it was all I could do to stop my husband pinching it! Despite being full we opted for the sticky toffee and date pudding to share and once again we left a clean plate! We intend to make more visits and a Sunday roast is definitely on the cards. I would highly recommend The Swan at Ley Hill but don't just take my word for it, give it a try!

We had a delicious Sunday Lunch in The Swan in the green little village of Ley Hill. Before we entered the pub we already were fascinated by the look of this very pretty quirky building. When we went inside, we immediately felt the warmth of the cosy atmosphere of this genuine old English pub which was very clean. There were a lot of charming old feature, including a fire place and some fascinating pictures and photographs. We had a very friendly welcome by the staff of the pub. They were very quick and efficient. Later we had a chat with them and found that they were the owners of the pub. We ordered Roast Sirloin of Beef and Roast Belly of Free Range Pork. It was mouth-watering with plenty of freshly cooked vegetables and yummy Yorkshire pudding. I decided to have a glass of a Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine was very good. We didn’t try any desserts, because we were literally full. The dishes were very generous and also so tasty that it would be shame not to eat it all! It was a family lunch and we spent a few hours there: an enjoyable relaxing time. We agreed that we will definitely have meal there again.

Having not visited this gorgeous little pub for some years we have, sadly, only just returned. We didnt realise there were 'new' owners who have been there for 13 years. Oh how we wish we had returned sooner. The pub is spotlessly clean, the owners friendly and welcoming and the food is some of the best we have eaten in recent years and we eat out often. We have tried the Sunday roast which is the best and also eaten from the a la carte menu - all delicious. Our only question is why it isnt always fully booked? It certainly should be! Highly recommended

We visited on Saturday 21 October as a party of six, having booked a couple of days before. We had been reserved a very pleasant table in a bay just inside the front, and not too far from the inglenook fireplace. The bar area itself was very tastefully furnished, which added to the overall atmosphere. We were made very welcome and were presented with the wine list and menu straight away. Our drinks were brought to the table and we ordered steak & kidney pie, ham egg & chips and vegetarian papardelle from the pub classics menu. The food, being freshly prepared, was well worth the wait. The pie was proper pie, with a pastry top and bottom, not just stew with a lid on! It was remarked on as being the best pie she'd ever had by one of our party. The other dishes met with similar noises of approval. We follow this with another round of drinks (the Timothy Taylor Landlord was particularly good, as was the coffee) and a couple of sweets, namely the vanilla sponge and chocolate parfait. Overall our experience was of a first-class family run establishment that puts quality and service at the forefront, and we fully intend to return and sample the evening atmosphere over dinner. I would recommend booking ahead, and leaving plenty of time to relax and enjoy your meal!

We were made very welcome despite the staff being busy with a large group which had just arrived for lunch. Both members of staff apologised and explained that there would be a delay with the food. It was so worth the wait! The seafood pot au feu was utterly delicious. The main bar, snug and restaurant all look very comfortable though the space between the bar and restaurant looked less attractive, a difficulty when merging three cottages into one.

We visited as a family group with a combination of vegetarians and meat eaters. The portions (especially of the risotto) were miserly. The sides accompanying the steak were also sparse. The triple cooked chips were limp and some were black and had to be sent back to be replaced by normal chips, which were much better. Most in our party had the brownie with the chocolate air and soil, both of which were disappointing. This pub has pretensions above the chef's capabilities and overall is not good value for money. They should stick to good well cooked food, decent portions at a reasonable price.

Went for a special birthday lunch today and sat by the cosy fire. The food was absolutely delicious. The pub is a classic old English style with low beams and wooden trimmings, a great place to just drift off and lose some time in a relaxing way. I had asparagus with wild mushrooms, followed by vegetarian bubble and squeak with panko egg and wilted spinach, and then sticky toffee pudding with cream. The pub also sources a lot of it's food as locally as possible supporting local farms and businesses which is always nice. This is a great pub for ramblers, cyclists, and when it's sunny outside 'families' with kids as they can sit outside and run about but not great for children under 8 on a rainy day if they have to be indoors as the pub is quite cosy . There is a lovely woodland walk around the corner so you can do a loop and then have some lunch. If you fancy a mini holiday just outside of Chesham, this is the pub for you it's well worth a visit and a 5 star rating. They do also have wifi though this is the type of pub where you may want to forget you have any connection to the outside world for a while.

I'd booked a table as friends were coming over, and the 5 of us went here for lunch. The food is usually to a high standard and reasonably priced in my opinion. This time we all found the home cooked food exceptional for our wide variety of tastes. One of my friends is vegetarian and she commented that she thought the risotto was the best she's ever had. I had one of my favorites the sea-food and the sauce was truly exquisite. This has improved in flavour. We sat in the snug area which is a little alcove off the main bar, which is lovely. This really is a quaint gem. Local drinks on tap too. The only downside to this pub is that there are several steps both externally and internally, which a person with limited mobility may find difficult. Some of the ceilings are quite low, but the beams are padded and you just need to duck in a couple of places.Thank you for the lovely atmosphere and your kind hospitality. Having played cricket here in 2015 on the green across from The Swan, I wanted somewhere new for a good evening meal. This pub is traditional looking from outside and spacious and inviting inside too. Plenty of room with an expansion area for diners, we found a nice table near to the large open fire. Although there were only about a dozen people inside, it was friendly and welcoming. Booked in quite late for Sunday lunch. There was a tense atmosphere between last owner and staff. They were overstretched perhaps nice weather had caught them out. We were told roast beef was limited to one per table. Our table neighbours had booked in advance and insisted on both having beef. Result was that 3 of the tiniest portions of wafer cut roast beef arrived. Attempts had been made to bolster it by a small portion of cabbage with bacon underneath it. My wife found what we thought was a piece of chicken breast under her beef. We asked what it was doing there and the server took the plate away. 5 minutes later landlady arrived with it on a saucer and pushing it around with her fingers in our faces exclaiming rather loudly that it was the bacon from the cabbage, several rashers being stuck together. No apology for serving a large wedge of stuck together undercooked bacon. So we waited, and waited and waited expecting my wife's food to reappear. Meanwhile I finished my pork which was quite nice to be fair. Asked landlady, she said that we had sent the food back and it was nearly all eaten anyway. No, we were asking what was on the plate. So she did offer a small portion of roast chicken which my wife ate alone. The roast beef was £15 I think. For that you expect an extremely nice meal professionally cooked and served. This was nowhere near. They've lost our custom and that of our table neighbours.

I've been here quite a few times with my friend. This was a Friday lunchtime and we sat in the garden. It's not very big and the majority of tables are on a slight slope but it was fabulous to be out in the sun - and our table wasn't on a slope! It's a nice garden but could be even better with proper tables and chairs rather than the majority being those picnic tables. The food is high quality pub food - I had a burger and chips and my friend had fish and chips with peas. My burger was far too pink for me and it was changed very graciously although my friend had finished her lunch by the time my second attempt arrived. The burger was very yummy, very nice, tasty meat and my friend loved her fish and chips. This is a beautiful old pub and the service is good especially as the landlord and landlady were serving.I think it's quite expensive at £15.45 for a burger and a pint of Coke but it is good quality. Our party consisted of 3 omnivores and one vegetarian. None of us were disappointed! Two of us fancied the fish dish, but don't particularly enjoy white wine. We were about to plump for one when our host recommended another. I thought this would be the most expensive wine on the list, but it wasn't, in fact it was one of the cheapest and what a brilliant choice it was. The food was outstanding! The vegetarian main was delicious very tasty and well presented. And the deserts were to die for. 3 of us chose the fondant - oh wow! Where do I start? first of all a huge thank you to Nigel and Sam the landlord and landlady who made our special evening run very smoothly as some of us were travelling down from Yorkshire and some members of our family lived close by so was difficult keeping it a suprise party but they made things run very easy and organised everything for us, a pat on the back to you and your staff. The food was not a disappointment either as many different meals were served and everyone commented how very nice the food was from stater, main, to desert which I would highly recommend to all thinking of going to this beautiful pub in superb surroundings. Timothy Taylor's landlord is kept very well which makes a very good pint of beer sorry I can't comment on any other drink as that is all I had for the evening so well done Nigel. We will definitely go back to The Swan when we travel south again. Once again thank you for a faboulas evening to all involved. This place certainly gets a 10 from Len!!

Went for sunday lunch yesterday with friends of ours that raved about the food in this pub. Maybe we expected too much because of this but we found the sunday roast average only. Service was good and pub was nice, but not worth the long drive.

Most pubs these days seem to be trying to turn themselves into restaurants or "gastro" pubs because they cannot sustain themselves as pure drinking establishments any longer. I understand this but some manage it better than others. The food and service here is quite good but in my opinion the prices are on the high side. True they compare to many restaurant prices locally, but this is basically a pub with no frills. The four of us paid nearly £160 (£180) with tips for what I consider to be a very basic meal, and we only had 3 starters, 4 mains & 2 puds. We did share 2 bottles of their cheaper wine, but at nearly £200 for a pub meal out that's seems expensive to me.

We went to The Swan on Sunday to celebrate a very special birthday for my dad. There were 4 adults and my 2 children aged 11 and 8.The service was fabulous and food was absolutely wonderful! I had the roast pork and the crackling was spot on with a rather yummy large Yorkshire pudding too.The staff were great and very attentive. They made us all feel very welcome and at home, including my children. My 11 year old daughter who had been writing in a note book in between courses enjoyed it so much that she wrote her own "review" and left the piece of paper with one of the waitresses. Thank you to the whole team for a very enjoyable lunch!

An interesting pub as its location is 'yards' from another, literally two pubs right next door to each other. However, we picked this pub to eat & drink in. The service was generally quick & efficient and very friendly, though the pub was quite quiet when we dined. It was nice to see everybody getting such a lovely welcome though. We didn't have any starters but my fiancée went for the Belly of Pork: Nice portion and lovely crackling (Now why can't I get mine like that!!) whilst I had the pan fried sea-bream. Very nice and seemed like it had been served just seconds after leaving the pan. This came, amongst other things, with Bok Choi which is a type of Chinese cabbage. To be fair this didn't work so well with a hot dish but the rest was fab. Puddings: we both ended up having the crumble and it was nice to have oven cooked rather than pre-cooked & then micro-waved. The prices were typical of 'county' type pubs (a little on the high side) but, if your passing then its worth a visit or for a special occasion.

We visited on Sunday, a group of six friends. We were greeted warmly by Sam, who also went out of her way to open a back door for easier access as one of us had problems with steps, and shown straight to our table. The food ordered included roast beef, sea bream and linguine. Without exception all the food was excellent, perfectly cooked and well presented, a special mention for the linguine, the best I have ever tasted, well done to the Chef. We then followed with yummy deserts again a selection and all delicious. Good value for money.A lovely atmosphere and if weather permitted a very pleasant garden area. Service was very good, attentive but not too intrusive, thank you Sam and staff, we will definitely be back.

Just had dinner at the swan in ley hill. Wow, all round! Food, ambience, attention, friendly. All excellent. Went with 87 year old mother, brother and sister in law from Florida and my gorgeous partner phil, who is also a chef! Thank you to Sam and her team for the attention you showed to all of us, but especially to my mum. It's all she talked about on the way home! Special memories were made this evening. Ones which my brother and I will cherish, especially as mum has failing health! We will be back. X

We went for lunch on a Saturday and despite the fact that they hadn't got our booking(sent by e-mail),they quickly found us a table in the restaurant! There was a wide choice of food which was served promptly and was delicious! The ambience was pleasant and the proprietors we're welcoming. The only negative was some of the starters were rather over priced.

This both a Cask Marque and a Good Food Guide entry: it indeed does offer good drink and food. The welcome was instant and inclusive despite being a stranger (my last visit was in the 80s). Regulars were known by name and their needs divined before they asked. Well done indeed. There is a dining room or food can be served at the tables spread around in the bar area. We chose to remain in the bar area. Traditional pies and fish and chips etc were available and my friend told me the pie was above average, even good. My red mullet dish was good but not outstanding, perhaps because the vegetable base of tomato, fennel and small steamed potato was a little too oily. But then I'm a fussy man.The pub stands next door to another but then is surrounded by the common and golf course. Parking is haphazard but easy. It's a stone/tiled floor but muddy footwear is not welcome (rightly boots are requested to be removed).I will go again when I need to meet my friend half way. I need look no further.

I have been going to the Swan for a couple of years, mainly as an escape from the office on a friday. There is a small but good quality range of draught beers, well kept. The menu is a nice variety of lighter items plus some really good quality mains. If you can manage dessert well done! It's not the cheapest lunch ever, but still good value.I keep going back.

We booked here last minute but it wasn't overly busy, so probably could of just turned up. My boyfriend had the sea food pot ae feu, which he said was delicious. Probably the best he'd had and not nearly the most expensive! The landlord/lady were both very friendly and attentive and really appreciated our feedback. The bar is a little small, but ideal for couples and small groups.

Our Beer festival trip was somewhat marred by the landlord's attitude. After having spent 2 days at the festival with my son who is 11 and spending lots of money in the pub, my son was told he could not play in the garden without his mum and dad (we were sitting out front) a footpath away.If you are participating in holding a beer festival which encourages families, which was evident from the amount of families there, you need to be a lot more child friendly.

This is the 3rd time I have eaten at The Swan in the past 12 months and only went there as it's local and wanted to take my mother in law somewhere different. It is a beautiful pub in lovely surroundings but think its time the owners made some serious changes. The menu has not changed in over 12 months and there aren't any specials so don't feel that excitement of wondering what delights might be awaiting us. The menu certainly doesn't reflect seasonal produce. It is reasonably priced and does taste good but we have now said unless the menu changes we won't go back. The service was poor and we weren't asked if we wanted more drinks or if our meals were ok. The waiter rested a napkin on top of one of the puddings whilst carrying them out which left the napkin with a big red sploge stain on it and he didn't think to change it just left it with the cutlery resting on top. For the 3rd time we have been the last customers to leave and it certainly starts to feel very awkward when the restaurant clears as it feels like the owners want you to leave. First time we went was a Thursday night and we were the last to go at 10.30pm, second time was a Saturday night and were the last to leave at 10.10pm and tonight we were the last to leave at 9.45pm. A pub like this should be doing a roaring trade and almost throwing people out at closing time but it is always very quiet and being empty at these times is worrying. It's a shame a they could do so much better and said previously said, were definitely not in any rush to go back.

We shan't be going back. It was meant to be a treat. The food took over half-an-hour to arrive, and people who arrived after us were served before us. When we asked why it was taking so long we were abruptly told they were busy - not even an apology. When it arrived my husbands moules were acceptable, the chlldren's pasta was cold (one portion had some foil from butter wrapping in it (no reaction when we mentioned it to the staff) and my steak and kidney and mushroom (one piece) pie was so salty as to be inedible - and the pastry crust was more like bread. We decided not to stay for pudding. The bill took 15 minutes to come. Some treat!

We visit the Swan very regularly and find the atmosphere and the food to be excellent. There is a lovely roaring fire in the bar during winter and in the summer there is plenty of outdoor space .The inside of the pub was tastefully refurbished a couple of years ago and now combines old world charm with a contemporary feel. The food is always freshly cooked to ones requirements and pleasantly served by the accommodating hosts Sam and Nigel and their staff.Eating here is very pleasant whether you eat in the bar or the restaurant. This is definitely our favourite pub.

My mother and I visited here one lovely Tuesday afternoon for a spot of lunch. We'd previously been impressed by the website and wanted to visit on a Monday, but they close on Mondays so we'd been next door to The Crown and had a lovely time. Maybe we'd expected too much - we walked in and everything looked fine, it was just almost eerily quiet. There was no music on and not much going on really - no other customers seemed to be talking much. The man behind the bar (who I understood to be one of the owners) took our order and was pleasant, but not overly friendly. Our food was fine, but it was just plonked down in front of us without giving us the chance to ask for any mayo or vinegar. As the pub closes after lunch until the evening, we really felt under pressure to hurry up and get out, which was a real shame.

We visited the Swan for dinner on a Saturday night and sat in the restaurant part, having visited the pub previously but never eaten there before and were really impressed by the food. The starters of mussels and black pudding with poached egg and bacon were some of the best we've eaten in a long time. For mains we had pot au feu (a variety of seafood in a rich, creamy stew) and pork belly, again excellent choices. The wine list has a good selection and is reasonably priced - we opted for the Picpoul de Pinet. We were too full for dessert so will have to save that for next time. The service was friendly, efficient and very well timed and when after saying we'd like to take our last glasses of wine into the main bar we found that we'd been reserved a spot by the roaring fire without needing to ask which was a really thoughtful touch. A lovely pub with excellent food and service, looking forward to going back already!

Came in to say "Goodbye" to the landlady. They're closing down. Awful sad... end of an era. The food was typical pub grub, with a twist, so it was tasty. Plenty of it. They had a good range of ales.

Cycled past many times looked v nice so decided to pop in for a drink 2 weeks ago. Barmaid v chatty good feel about the place lighting perfect candles on nice background music. You could tell the lady working cared about the business! After this visit we decided to go back last night for a meal. So different no smile or hello when walked in 2 team working just didn’t look happy actually looked like they had fallen out. Sat at table one of them brought menu then we chose a bottle of wine which was nice and came quick. We then sat there 15 mins before getting up and asking if we ordered at the bar or were they coming over.one if them came over and took the order, food came around 30 mins later. The food was ok but pies could have been bigger with more filling. After finishing nobody came and asked if we would like a dessert in the end I had to get up and ask for the bill. We then left feeling v disappointed all round. Such a nice first visit what happened why such a let down. With prices high and pub in a small village out of the way it needs to be good every time not every other for it to survive in this tough environment. Not sure if will come back again 🤔
