Cycled past many times looked v nice so decided to pop in for a drink 2 weeks ago. Barmaid v chatty good feel about the place lighting perfect candles on nice background music. You could tell the lady working cared about the business! After this visit we decided to go back last night for a meal. So different no smile or hello when walked in 2 team working just didn’t look happy actually looked like they had fallen out. Sat at table one of them brought menu then we chose a bottle of wine which was nice and came quick. We then sat there 15 mins before getting up and asking if we ordered at the bar or were they coming over.one if them came over and took the order, food came around 30 mins later. The food was ok but pies could have been bigger with more filling. After finishing nobody came and asked if we would like a dessert in the end I had to get up and ask for the bill. We then left feeling v disappointed all round. Such a nice first visit what happened why such a let down. With prices high and pub in a small village out of the way it needs to be good every time not every other for it to survive in this tough environment. Not sure if will come back again 🤔

We’ve eaten here regularly for many years having enjoy many lunches and dinners. Recently we had a disappointing experience with a shortage of roast dinners for which I left a mediocre review to reflect that experience. The pub contacted us regarding this and the customer service was excellent. So, we went back for Sunday dinner tonight and the meal, drinks and service were excellent as we’ve come to expect. We will be going back again.

This was my first visit to the Red Lion. This lovely country pub had a nice feeling as we went in. My fish finger sandwich though was disappointing. The fish fingers overcooked and the bread crumbly so you could not pick it up. My friend had avocado and poached egg on bread that looked as if it had just been thrown together. No thought to presentation. I asked for extra tartar sauce that never arrived and asked 3 times before a water bowl for my dog arrived. It was a cold and wet day so would have been nice if the fires were burning. We meet regularly for lunch and this pub is about half way. After todays experience I think we will be looking elsewhere which is a shame.

Lovely pub with outside space. Lucky Saint alcohol free lager on draft which is great. However the reason I have given them 3 stars is what I believe is poor value for money. I ordered avocado on sourdough with poached egg. What arrived was very tasty but one small piece of sourdough with what I guess was half and avocado and one small egg at £8 doesn’t seem like great value for money given the cost of raw ingredients and amount of preparation / cooking required. We had another lunch menu item which included two slices of sourdough, ham, and cheese done as a toastie was also £8 which seems more reasonably priced and was delicious.

Glad to find this place after a lovely walk around the Chess Valley. Service was impeccable, relaxed atmosphere sat across the road in the shade. Waitress happily took our orders and we paid at the table, drinks and food were delivered very quickly. The enormous, heated, fly-covered pork crackling oven probably doesn't need to be directly on the service bar, it smells very strongly and the flies were quite off-putting on a hot day. No need to visit the bar however as the service was great outside!

We live in Little Chalfont and this has become our local. It's a real, independent pub and everything about it shouts "personality" and "not part of a chain". Had a couple of pints yesterday on the lawn outside and the contact with everyone behind the bar was just great. We've also used it for family gatherings (with food) and those have worked well too. Give it a go. It's a great place.

Cold welcome but anyway Service at our table was good. However… We came to have a post -final a-level lunch with our son. A light meal and one drink. When ordering beer for him we were asked to show ID. We obviously said he was 17 but as we were having a meal the UK law allows for him to have a beer with his parents. We were then told - “we have different rules here and he has to be 18 to have a drink on our premises.” This was obviously disappointing and a slightly bizarre rule to have on a quiet Friday lunchtime.

A real gem of a pub, traditional village pub with the friendliest landlady & team of bar staff. Best pub in area in such a beautiful village. Great range of ales, regularly updated. Recommend their G and T, beautifully served with stunning ice, each one a work of art - 2:1 on Fri evenings too. Menu ranges from high quality pub food to more refined gastro choices with vegetarian options. But you can’t beat their burgers! Totally dog friendly not just dog tolerant - dog treats, water bowls. 16 of us had dinner last night, food was great, service spot on and great selection of beers - thank you. My advice would be to ignore Edna1234's (or Chris as we know them as locally!!) review above, he/she/they have a habit of leaving unjustified, negative and vindictive reviews of small local pubs and restaurants (see their historic reviews), disappointing in such a small community at a time when small businesses, especially in a rural setting, need as much support as possible. Well done team Red Lion - keep up the good work!

Had lovely meal on new year's day. Great little pub, service was excellent and food was a good mix of pub classics and more unusual options. Unfortunately one of the meals was not to our liking but the waiter immediately apologised and offered to replace it with something else on the menu. Ultimately, they took it off the bill - these things happen and you can't say fairer than that! Dropped one star for atmosphere just because there was a yappy dog next to us which was pretty annoying but that's hardly the pub management's fault. Also, it is a country pub after all.... Lovely pub, lots of character, nice seating to differentiate between pub and more dining style. Friendly service and my biggest A* for being Dog friendly. I ordered the chicken wings with blue cheese sauce, pork croquettes which were stunning and the Ribs with Mash instead of fries. I can concur that the mash was *actually* made from potatoes and not a powder form like most pubs these days do - so THANK YOU chefs for going out of your way to do this. Brilliant ribs lovely flavours and in all honesty that plum coleslaw could be easily served as a main dish alongside some protein! Really lovely. Sausage and mash brilliant also! Cannot fault. Thanks

Really disapointed as it looked great from the outside. Blackpudding scotch egg as a starter that was just plain bland and very little black pudding in it. Squid starter that was served with a very strange chilli oil that really didn't work well at all. Some garlic mayo or similar would have been fine. Mains of roast Beef and a Pork belly were really disappointing, over cooked veg and soft bland unseasoned roast potatoes were made worse by the thin watery gravy. Totally underwhelming for the price, only redeeming thing was the positive and friendly staff, shame the food didn't match.

It was a lovely crisp day and the pub came recommended. A cosy Sunday lunch was what we needed so we chose the Red Lion. Members of staff were great, but the Sunday lunch was disappointing. The beef (£20) was very thin and the gravy really watery. The veg looked a bit like it was the last of the day (it was a 2:15pm booking). I’m getting a bit tired of eating out and not getting “value”. How hard can it be to nail a roast and make me think I’d be happy to pay £25? Thick gravy/jus, hot veg, and crispy, large roasties. Hmmmm. Instead, I think it was only worth £15. One of us had the burger which seemed good. The desserts were okay. Cheesecake a bit small. Unlikely to return.

Nice setting. Torn between 2 & 3 stars. We asked for shandy (usually lager and lemonade) but they served us what I guess was lager + carbonated water? Healthier I guess but wasn't a fan of the taste. Also got the roast dinner with chicken, the meal tasted good, but the middle of the chicken was undercooked and blood oozed out when pressed with a fork. They did take one of the 'shandies' off the bill due to that.
