Best fish and chips I have had for a long time. Freshly cooked and served with a smile. Our two dogs enjoyed the cold sausages they had ready for the dogs, very thoughtful. Lovely location.

We struggled to find anything to eat in Dinas Dinlle on a wet and miserable Sunday night in July. If the weather wasn’t enough the service with no smile and no change was going to add to our misery. We found the only place open in Dinas Dinlle so we swiftly ordered our (spicy?) chicken burger with one lettuce leaf and one spreading of mayonnaise. We also needed to purchase some cheese & lettuce to take away as one of the party of three has a gluten intolerance. This is when things got complicated. We were charged £1 for the cheese, and happily paid £4.70 each for two burgers. total of £10.40. When we asked for some lettuce we felt like aliens. Again we kindly gave £2 towards the cheese & lettuce only to be told when asked that there wasn’t any change from £12! The shocker was £1.60 for a small sauce size carton of lettuce!!! Crazy so like aliens we walked out not to cause a scene….

Awful. Batter on fish was heavy and uncooked. Should be light and crispy. Try keep the battery cool and more air into it. WHY would you put dried mint into your peas. Fawl. Chips okay but could do with more colour. I'll not be going back. EXPENSIVE

Regularly visit this chip shop and enjoy the food however the man behind the counter was beyond rude today, spent £13 on chips for me and 2 kids, got the chips and the kids asked for ketchup, asked the man for some ketchup and was given a little sachet which was 15p, said I only had my card and was told ‘that’s not going to work, next please’ and took the ketchup off me!!! Bloody cheeks. I’d almost understand for a large pot but this was a little sachet for the kids, could have just accepted my card payment or given the kids a satchet, I’m here spending my money all the time. Rude.

Fish and chips beach side, lots of choice, freshly cooked, delicious many thanks. All the best. Loved the curry sauce

Called at the Surfer yesterday after a long walk. My husband was told it would be ready in about twenty minutes so he came back to the car, Twenty minutes later the heavens opened and lo and behold a young man came over with our order, I call that service with a smile and the food was lovely, Diolch yn fawr. Da ni am ddwad eto.

Awful service, poor food. After looking forward to fish and chips at the seaside we were really disappointed to be met with terrible service from a guy who treated us as an inconvenience. He was extremely rude when we kindly asked if we could have some of our two portions of fish and chips put into a third container for our one year old. He told us we would need to buy an extra child’s portion of fish and chips but eventually and begrudgingly gave us an extra container and told us we could separate the portions ourselves and would have to be charged extra for the container!! We were the only people in the shop so would only have take an extra minute of his time. The food was not great, fish very greasy and uncooked batter and the mushy peas were not green and very watery! We never write negative reviews but we stress to avoid this shop at all costs, they clearly do not want the business!

it’s a fab chippy, good menu, tasty food & reasonably priced. Been many times and never had any complaints. Worth queuing for if it’s busy.

Compared to our chip shop in Leicester prices very reasonable. Love they are cooking with new potatoes.

This is our favourite place for Fish and Chips! We are regular customers at The Surfer when we are staying at Dinas Dinlle. The food is both very tasty and is of a high quality, it's cooked to order so it's always lovely and fresh....

Well many happy memories of this place. Was great friends with the now departed Erwyn Jones. We as a family spent at lot of time at dinas from the late eighties to early 2001. Now run by his son Hugh.Well recommended

We go regularly then go sit on the inflatable sofa by the sea with a beer and scoff their great fish and chips. Others on here seem to be in a parallel universe.

Currently on holiday this week & have been twice to get fish & chips, brilliant both times, curry sauce spot on! Staff appear to take a certain amount of orders at a time which seems really sensible! Food has been hot and fresh every single...

Covid safe, good fish, good chips and...very friendly staff. We drove away to the other end of the beach and enjoyed this very nice lunch on our outdoor chairs, listening to the waves!

Worst chip shop iv ever been to, avoid if possible, may Be try changing your oil every now and then ,staff miserable

I don't know what everyone is on about - makes me feel we are talking about different places. The situation is amazing, and the fish and chips were fresh and delicious. Staff were friendly and efficient. I'd go back if I was anywhere near. And no, I'm not related to the owner and don't know any of the staff!

We were hoping for a nice fish and chips Beside the sea, we ended up with the worse chips I have ever had the unpleasure of encountering. They were possibly re-fried or more likely very old oil. Shame really, the fish was very good.

Good point- Ice creams are lovely.......... Unfortunately however we found prices absolutely extortionate for everything. Fish & chips were revolting and staff absolutely miserable. Seems the locals praise it though reading back on the reviews.

I ate there yesterday evening. They had run out of fish which was a shame but it had been a sunny day so they were probably busy. I had pretty good fish cakes, nice chips and tasty mushy peas, sitting at a bench in the sun overlooking the beach. It was lovely. I’ll certainly go back.

Popped in yesterday after a six mile walk with the dogs. Chips nicely cooked great flavour and plenty of them. Ice cream was the highlight of our trip out. Amazing flavours, we can recommend Dutch chocolate, Blackberry & cream, Banoffee & Rum and Raisin!! Our dogs were invited in- always a bonus when somewhere is dog friendly. A lovely end to a fabulous morning walking around the beach, Airport, Nature reserve and Villages.

The wife and myself had a lovely fish super in there last night and was showed a round the flat the owner as done as a holiday flat with a tub on the decking over looking the sea.

This has to be the very best fish and chip shop EVER! If there is a heaven this is it! You can sit outside and shelter from the sun and wind. The fresh air is the added ingredient. Make sure to leave something for the seagulls as we are taking all of their fish!

Just a thought about the negative reviews on your shop. It seems you have enemies, or you refused to give them free food when they threatened to give you a bad review, which I heard from other businesses, happens a lot.

Was at the surfer last month lovely lady serving ice cream and she was very pleasant with us, however there was a chubby guy in shorts brrrrr!!! picking his nose trying to make some coffee for some customers, mamamia, nice clean place.

Me and my friends decided to go to the ice cream shop for a little treat. We were served by a generous young man and he made us feel very welcomed. When we were continuing to look in the shop, we overheard a lady being very nasty with the young man who i believe is the owner, she was being awful with him and then storm off with cussing in welsh which is translated in english ‘These f**kers are driving me crazy’

Bought fish and chips to take away for the family. Chips good, fish ok; could have been better. The fish was wet (to the point where I wondered if it was cooked properly) and there was hardly any fish in the batter. Disappointed. On a plus note, the gravy was lovely.

Can get busy so sometimes have to wait for food. Friendly staff and nice and clean. Ate here 4 years ago in 2014 and visited again Aug 2018, same great tasting chips, can't fault them really. Sometimes have to wait for food to be cooked but at least it's hot lol.

Having moved to the area three months ago we have visited The Surfer several times, either when walking our dog or with guests. On every occasion we received great friendly service and excellent food. The fish & chips, chicken nuggets, burgers and curry sauce are all great.

The staff was friendly and services was excellent had lovely fish and chips would highly recommend it and there was plenty of it, and they have absolutely fabulous ice cream there.

After already spending £15 in the shop we decided to stop and have fish and chips. We had decided to sit outside as it was a pleasant day. Food was ok I have to say, but after a while and after our young children had been chased by wasps we followed the sign displayed “ eat in or take away” so we decided to eat in. Whilst enjoying our food we were promptly asked to leave the restaurant by the older man who had cooked our food. His explanation was it’s not fair on the other customers who pay £9 for fish, chips, bread and butter and a coffee and we had only paid £6.40 for take away fish and chips. After explaining we came in away from the wasps he stated it didn’t matter we were still not allowed. THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE IN THE RESTAURANT, just us ???? Had this restaurant been packed or had I been asked to pay a couple of quid I would understand.

Me and the family came for our tea after a long day .. due to the rain we sat in the cafe ... I had the cod special my husband and friend the surfer special burger and a child's meal for the little one ... what can I say but absolutely lovely and we couldn't finish our food as the portions were extremely generous.we will defiantly be returning

Food is lovely and freshly cooked.. went back for lunch today... polite friendly staff nothing is too much trouble .. sat In the cafe to say they were busy we didn't wait too long and the food was delicious ..good food and the sunset over the sea what more can you ask for will be going again whilst on my visit to Wales.

Stayed near by and visited the surfer a few times. Had fish chips and peas which we ok. On another day we had chicken curry and chips served in a large tray and costs around £4 so quite reasonable.

The batter was soggy and under cooked on one fish yet burnt and hard on the other. The chips were soggy and the oil or lard must be out of date and need changing as it had a strange taste to it. The mushy peas tasted just like marrowfat peas out of a tin I couldn't taste any bicarbonate of soda. We paid around £15 for two fish two chips and two mushy peas and can honestly say it's the worst meal we've ever purchased. I now wish we had read other reviews on TripAdvisor as we would have stayed well clear.

The young boy in the ice cream shop was lovely, the older man in the chip shop was absolutely terrible! His attitude is absolutely stinking what a horrible man! Wouldn’t come here ever again! Wouldn’t recommend at all & worst chips going and looke extreamly unhygienic in the chip shop

The guys in the shop attached are lovely, really helpful and they do some wicked ice creams! The chippy the other side is also good and the fish is to die for, lovely fluffy and white! Very popular and not open too late so get in quick!

The sign saying " No keyboard Warriors" says it all really. Greasy chips Poor value Grim customer service. I would not return here. I'd rather go hungry.

We holidayed a few hundred yards from here for about four years and always looked forward to the fish and chips. Last year we stayed further south and found the local chippy was just not up to standard. So today on our holiday journey south we made a special detour for chips, well worth it.

So glad we ignored all the bad reviews and went, full chippy tea tonight, fish chips, mushy Peas, curry sauce, absolutely gorgeous, hubby said the best fish he's had for years, generous portions, staff very happy and cheerful.... We also had lunch time chips the other day, which we ate on the beach, it doesn't get much better than that!!!!!

Le pregunté si el servidor male supo o no la salsa curry vegetariano era amable, que no estaba seguro y me dijo que no podía encontrar para mí. Obviamente no me voy a comer un 'debería'. Sería realmente útil si el personal sabía exactamente lo que había en la comida que vendían.

Primera visita a esta parte del país, y encontramos este pequeño chips cerca de la playa con unas cuantas personas allí y comprar. Habíamos viajado por más de 3 horas y te mueras de pescado y patatas fritas fue decidido. El personal era muy servicial y educado. La porción era muy bueno y muy bien preparado. El pescado era fresco, pero las patatas fritas eran para morirse! ! ! Perfectamente cocinado y el mejor que he probado nunca. También fue agradable ver un pequeño establecimiento muy cerca de la playa muy limpia y también para tener una clasificación de 5 estrellas. higiene Volveré la próxima vez que visite a nuestros amigos.

I went in here on a warm Wedneday afternoon and bought a large tray of chips (to share with my Hubby) which cost £2.50. The man serving me was pleasant enough. It was a generous portion although they were fairly greasy.

This is the best chip shop in this area was in there last week the wife myself and couple of our kids who come visiting us.The grandkids all ways want to go there the young lad that owns all ways makes us fell welcome.The ice cream is also some of the best i have tried.

Popped down for a walk on the beach decided to have fish and chips and my husband had fish cake and chips... The food was cooked to order and the fish was delicious. My husband enjoyed his fishcake and chips.. Staff are so friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be popping down and going into the cafe in a few weeks..

Well we have been a regular at this chippy this is our third season at the nearby caravan site ..... this year it has gone down hill. We had fish and chips each ......... the fish contained more batter than fish and the amount of chips you receive now is so tiny and not a fair portion it is not a patch on previous years. This was mentioned to us yesterday at the campsite .... we were told to avoid it but it was too late for us. It is then obviously not a blip in our case that is how they are now served ... so avoid and dont waste your hard earned money ☹️

Freshly cooked fish was good. Children enjoyed the battered sausages. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed eating our food on the beach.

We stumbled across this place on our travels the gentleman who owns it was very friendly and the cod and chips were great..the weather was grim but we didn't care .sat in my car watching the rain .munching on fresh fish.I couldn't of been happier

On Thursday 4th August at about 12.00pm I went into the Surfer at Dinas Dinlle for a coffee and a piece of cake. I explained to the lady that was serving that I would eat the cake in the cafe but could she put the coffee in a takeaway cup as I would finish it whilst walking. I was walking from Trefor to Caernarfon on the coast path.About two minutes later she brought over the cake and the Americano coffee in a takeaway container. The coffee was £2.00 and the cake £1.75. I eat the cake and read a newspaper I had brought in.After about 5 minutes a man who I presume was the manager came over and said I could not drink the takeaway coffee in the cafe. I explained what had happened and asked him to check with the lady who had served me. He was very aggressive, which was quite out of place for a quiet cafe The man came back very irate and said even though she had served me the coffee in a takeaway cup in the cafe, I was not allowed to have the coffee inside the cafe. I think he didn't understand that there is standard rate VAT on hot drinks if they are consumed inside or outside unlike certain cold food. He said I had to leave immediately. I am 57 years old and have never been thrown out of a cafe in my life. Even though he had a threatening manner, I told him that he was not chucking me out and I would leave when I was ready. I also told him that as a regular contributor to Trip Advisor I would be putting some comments on Trip Advisor. He told me that he did not care for trip advisor using swear words as he did.He went off swearing at the assistant in Welsh and came back about a minute later. He sat opposite trying to intimidate me. I carried on reading my paper and tried to ignore him. He picked up part of the paper which I was not reading and started reading it himself. He then then threw it back at me and walked out of the room.I did not see him again. I then packed up my stuff and left the cafe and carried on along the coastal path.I was sworn at in a very intimidating manner, racially abused and felt physically threatened by this man.When I got back to Wolverhampton that evening I lodged my complaint with the policeI was hoping for some type of apology . The man has denied the incident ever took place, for this reason I made a formal statement. He was subsequently convicted of a public order offence.

We have been going here for the past three years now (each time we visit North Wales). When visiting this year firstly in August it was very busy so the service was a little slow but the food as always was superb. When we came back in October we were disappointed that the restaurant was closed and no opening hours were visable although there was a sign saying that the cafe was open but it was indeed locked up!

Perhaps the quality depends on who's working there (looking at the other reviews), but our experience was excellent, and this was the best seaside fish and chips I've had. The fish was battered and fried on order, and the chips were fresh. It was delicious. The ice cream from the attached shop was to die for. Creamy, rich ice cream from a local farm.

We arrived at the campsite this afternoon and after travelling we decided to go and get fish and chips. The weather was windy and raining so decided to sit in the cafe. We both ordered the cod special ( fish, chips, bread and butter and a mug of tea/coffee ) @ £8.95 each then we ordered a portion of peas each which came in a gravy boat the chips were hard, batter on the fish full of oil and the staff all 3 of them never smiled once while we were there. The food is over priced for what it is. We won't be returning !!

I have never tasted anything like it. The chips were dropping with fat. Cold. The staff were rude. We had sausage and chips 5 times for the children and our selves. We were all poorly. They had heated the sausages up in the microwave. STAY AWAY.

After going down country roads and thinking I was lost we finally found this chippy. The only thing I can say is wow! The chips are absolutely amazing (we even had 2 servings) it's a small place and gets very busy but it's worth the wait.the staff are very friendly and made us laugh during our wait. There was a young lady with lots of tattoos I just want to say thankyou our second serving of chips was lush!!

We ordered 5 lots of fish & chips. A seperate chips then extras too on top. Over £30!! This was our last night and was supposed to be a treat! The chips were not brilliant, the fish were just about cooked. (despite having waited about 25 minutes for the food!) My dad asked for lightly battered fish to which the guy replied no sorry and was not done! Man behind us also asked the same and was told yes no problem!! There was a woman and man working that night and I do not think they smiled even once??? Do not go here unless you really have no other option available to you at all! We were going to go to Caernarfon but thought we would support the local chip shop instead = big mistake!! We took our food away wish now had eaten inside instead and could have told them what I actually thought of their food!

After this place being recommended to us it was well worth the drive trying to find it. From the moment we arrived to the minute we left we were made to feel more than welcome. The staff were friendly and the choice of ice cream was absolutely fantastic. Would definitely return to explore the menu further.

Ignore what other people are saying about this place because the food here is absolutely gorgeous. Nicest chips the whole family have ever tasted. We stayed near by and went here alot. Tried a few things of the menu and everything was freshly cooked and tasted brill. All the staff are a pleasure to talk to and really friendly. Can't wait to come back

We stopped by this fish n chips takeaway on Monday evening for our tea, as it was wet and rainy. The service was quick, but the chips were awful. They were like the size of nimble sticks, they didn't look like chip shop chips at all and were swimming in fat/ grease. The price of £2.40 for a large chips, they were the worst I have ever tasted and ended up putting them in the bin. Thank god I ordered fish cake and sausages, as they were a saviour and tasted great on a sandwich.

Popped in off the beach in Dinas Dinlle as the kids were hungry. The chips were really nice. I was pleasantly surprised as I was not expecting too much from a seasonal cafe. The chips were hot, fresh and tasty. We will be back and I have spread the word to family and friends.

I've just returned from a weekend staying at a caravan park down the road from the surfer chip shop. We arrived at about 8.50pm starving after a couple of hour drive. We entered the shop to a young boy, an older woman (who glared at us and then looked at her watch) and a younger man who all looked at us like we had 3 heads. We werent acknowledged at all. Think they close at 9, but if they were closed that's fine, we'd have gone somewhere else. The food was overpriced, small portions and the fish was full of bones. The food was wrapped, slapped on the counter and left there by the young boy who then served someone else. After a minute he looked at me, pointed at the numerous wrapped items and said 'there!' I asked for a bag and anyone would've thought I'd asked for the contents of his till. I know you have to pay 5p for a bag in Wales but having just spent that much on chips it wouldn't have made any difference. No bags....had to carry across to our van with poorly wrapped half open chips where grease ran out of the packet down my daughters leg. Think Alex polizzi would have a field day here!! Avoid at all costs!!

Yes, this was an adult portion of chips! £1.85 plus extra for fork and sauce. I feel ripped off. (Over a £10 for a family of five just on chips)

I have to give credit to the four young lads behind the counter! How they served the demanding never ending crowd in front of me at such speed I'll never know! The two infront of me ordered 13 bags of chips and were served in the blink of an eye. The place itself though is a bit of a let down- not very clean looking - the chips are ok- the sausages and fish looked awful. Husband took one look at the sausage and thought it was still raw and decided he couldn't face eating there at all but with a starving 4 year old wanting chips i bought one bag. Would not go back to be honest. Pricing similar to other chippies in the area.

Glad to see there was a place here for tea, but clearly the captive market means that no effort is needed, hence the take-it-or-leave it attitude. My tea was in a very floppy plastic beaker, so I asked for another one to place it inside to make it stronger. Blank looks all round! Then an older lady took over and provided a stronger cardboard cup, but with a manner so severe that what should have been a helpful act felt like some kind of punishment!

I should have been suspicious by the fact no one was eating inside The Surfer, and the over priced menu. However, it was wet and rainy and the children were hungry. I can't even rate this as half a star, but I have had to give it one to write this review. The fish and chips were swimming in grease, the bread was stale, all for the pricey sum of £30 to feed a family of 4. Avoid at all costs!

This used to be a good little fish and chip shop, not any more! We got fish and chips - so much grease on them I think the fish was trying to swim away in it! After eating only a few mouthfuls I gave up and threw the rest away . Will avoid unless some drastic changes .

As a local I have been in this shop/cafe a few times to pick up bits and bobs. Never really thought twice about the service. However today, we were on the beach an my friend was unfortunate enough to be stung by a weaver fish..... very very painful! We had both heard that the hottest water you can stand is a good way to help stop the sting in it's tracks. My friend was in a lot of pain so I ran quickly over to the nearest cafe/shop, which happened to be this one. I asked the gentleman behind the counter (who I believe to be the manager/owner by the way the young lad working there looked scared of him!) for some hot water, explaining the situation. From this moment I knew he wasn't going to be of any help! He said no, and ushered me out to the warden next door, who wasn't there, so I went back, and pleaded for some hot water.... He muttered some expletives under his breath, snatched my container and started to fill it. He then told me I'd have to pay 50p for it. (There was approx 100ml of hot water!) I had no money, so he poured the water down the sink and gave me my container back. At that point I got cross, told him what for and walked out.I couldn't believe how unhelpful he was! And turning my desperation in to a sale! Horrible, selfish man is all I can say!I did manage to get some hot water btw, from the lovely staff at Bwyty Lleu a bit further down the road, they even offered to help my friend off the beach and come to sit in their lovely cafe :)

On a cold October day beside a lovely beach the blue light from the fish and chip sign beckoned us in.... One adult and three kids -a cup of coffee, 3 x chips and cokes please... £14... gasp... expecting the biggest plate of chips for £2.50 per portion. With huge disappointment we received what looked like the bottom scraps from the frozen chip packet... tasted like they had been fried, left to go cold and then reheated... no potato just fat...The guy cooking was rude and thumped around with a bad attitude... facilities lacking as well, no towel or hand dryer- had to use toilet paper to dry my hands.NEVER AGAIN - stay away from this one...

i would have been better raiding my dogs bowl, it beggers belief that this cafe can get away selling this rubbish, disguised as food. do not go there, reaaly bad food, and pig ignorant

Run down and shabby, service with a frown from the owner. STAY AWAY! - Kids had some iced lollies and a small coffee for myself to take away. Thought I had miss heard when the bill came to £5 - the coffee was £2.15! I would not have minded if it was an excellent coffee in a classy joint. Even had the audacity of selling out of date packets of honey roasted nuts for half price!!

if thats a large portion of chips then id hate to see a small portion. high prices poor quality food,bad service, what a rip off.

Visited the surfer today and was extremely disappointed but starving so chose to eat here! Two lads in the chip shop, one bare chested cooking the food and the other had no customer service skills whatsoever! Very over priced and very small portions, giah and chips were vwry greasy! Shall not be visiting here again very disappointing!

Walked in on a sunny evening massive queue waiting to be served by a bare chested...yes that right bare chested man behind the counter..forget it walked straight out! Last time I ate there had a suspicious hair in my chips now I know where exactly it came from urgh! Will be phoning the council health section monday morning

Went today and was less than impressed the member of staff was frying food with a completely open top hairy chest and belly on show, service was Luke warm at best, overly greasy chips and tasteless barely cooked fish one to avoid

Very pleasant staff but food to me was overpriced for the portion size especially in the take away section. At home we pay the same price for a fish twice the size. Ideal for a quick snack or warming cup of coffee on a cold day but I wouldn't go for a special occasion

Very clean,excellent service.Good food.Friendly staff.Large choice of additive free farmhouse ice cream,dairy free ice cream,fantastic view of the beach.
