The Sun Inn in Eden

I have stopped here many times for a drink and a couple of times for food. I have eaten in the bar and had very good hoke cooked lasagne, a generous portion too. I have also eaten in the restaurant and enjoyed a steak that was cooked just as asked and would recommend to others. A good selection of beers on draught. Will certainly be visiting again soon as is one of the better pubs over the options in Penrith itself.

Probably the best food I've eaten for a long long time! The vegetarian bangers (4 off!) and mash, with other seasonal veg was beautifully cooked, presented and tasted utterly delicious. There's no complaints over portion size and it was reasonably priced too. The pub had a great friendly atmosphere and the staff were really welcoming too. A great pub, I'd definitely recommend and visit again. (The desserts sounded good but I couldn't eat another thing!)

What a lovely little pub. Seems very well supported by the locals! Lots of events planned that are advertised on their up to date website. Enjoyed a donder down for drinks while I was in the area. Would recommend!

Absolutely fabulous Sunday roast. Beautifully cooked lamb shoulder with a light crisp Yorkshire, great gravy and lovely veg. Topped off with a generous portion of delicious sticky toffee pudding

Family birthday evening meal. Very good food but thought the starters were a little expensive for the portions received. Will eat there again in the future.

As part of our small walking group of five, we had dinner here for four evenings. Food was very good. The portion size were very generous. Good atmosphere and good service. Please note no dogs allowed inside.

While staying at Sunset House B&b, they recommended the Sun Inn for an evening meal. I'm pleased to say what a satisfying meal it was, and the local ale helped it slip down nicely. Highly recommend if your in the area.

We have just had a wonderful meal in The Sun Inn! The staff we very attentive! Didn’t have to wait long for drinks or food! The minute we were dry they were taking our drink orders! My girls brought the dolls with them and we were given a high chair so they could play and feed their Dolls at the table! They loved it! The food was amazing! Large portions and beautiful! No complaints what so ever! The best meal of our break! Will definitely visit again! Happy customers :)

We visited for dinner and had the best food. Great choice on the menu. Proper pub menu and atmosphere... I really enjoyed the Cumbrian pork.. the belly pork was amazing! And my husband thoroughly enjoyed his steak and ale pie. Great choice for kids too with a scoop of ice cream included! Lovely service and atmosphere!

Stayed one night and would definitely return. Had a meal on the night with a dessert and both were amazing! Breakfast was nice too. Staff are all really welcoming and friendly. Room was a basic standard room but very clean and nice bathroom. Location is slightly isolated for activities but not a far drive to other places around.

Another wet day!Went a run .can on The Sun Inn.Had lovely lunch.The menu had a great chooses.had the pie for the day.but the fish and chips looked good too.good selection of beer bottle and draft.Adam and his staff all very friendly. I'm looking forward to try my marmalade. Will be back soon

I hired The Sun Inn to provide a Hog Roast at a private party at the weekend and they were nothing short of exceptional. The whole setup and food was amazing and the guests couldn't speak highly enough of it. Lucy and Adam were professional and helpful with the whole process and made the whole day effortless. I would 100% recommend!

Stopped by with an American friend on the way back from Hadrians wall. Very friendly staff, the younger girl (owners daughter?) Was very welcoming and bubbly. Older lady was very polite and apologised for the wait at the bar. We both had pie, I had chicken, leek and bacon, my friend had steak and ale. Both were excellent, very tasty and good portions. Prices are what you'd expect from a pub. We saw someone getting the roast dinner and that also looked excellent. The pub itself has a very traditional vibe in the main part and a more modern vibe in the dining area. We would both visit again in a heartbeat if we were in the area. Great stuff guys, thanks.

A pint, starter, and main for £30, accompanied with a fantastic atmosphere. After descending from the summit of Scafell, I found myself in dire need of a meal and a pint. Almost two hours of searching later, having dismissed other pubs and restaurants for limited menu choices (or for being too posh for a sweaty hiker!), I stumbled across the chilled out but accomodating Sun Inn! With front pub and rear restaurant areas, I could quite easily have dressed up and brought a lady for a date night in the restaurant area. Seating my less presentable self in the pub however was hassle free and I enjoyed a sofa in the corner near the darts board and TV after being served a decent pint by a bartender most amicable. The most splendid garlic mushrooms starter, which was served to me by lovely waiting staff who later checked up on me, truly put me in the mood for some good food. But I wasn't prepared for the showstopper of a sizzler which was the salt and pepper chicken, with vegetables cooked aldente to perfection! If you're in the area and feeling thirsty or peckish (or just in the mood for a game of darts!), swing by The Sun Inn :)

Excellent menu with very nice food. The menu offers a vast variety of dishes from usual pub grub through to sizzling hot plate dishes. Sunday lunch is also a must. Service was a little below par considering the number of people eating, waiting a while for ordering and then a long time to be cleared and offered any drinks/sweets or the bill. Overall it's a lovely bustling country pub.

Had the pork belly.. absolutely delicious 😋 Fully recommend coming here to eat

Great place for a Family catch-up. Staff managed a busy bar and restaurant with grace and humour. Great food delivered in good time.

Lovely meal cooked by great chef,Andy. Very busy as it was Easter Sunday but they had an excellent system of ordering ahead to make sure everyone got what they wanted. Charged £5 a head on booking which was deducted from the final bill. We will definitely be going here again.

Stopped in on a drive up to Scotland from Staffordshire, only a few mins from jct41 and one of the best home made steak pie and chips ive ever had.

I’m possibly a bit biased as we provide the rijo42 coffee to this Pub, but let me tell you now, I’ve just had the afternoon pie special, unbelievable 😳I can not believe how good the food is , great people lovely little pub! Absolutely fantastic place. Lucy is an incredibly attentive host and a real pleasure to deal with. The food is up there as some of the best I’ve had, very reasonably priced and generous portions. Couldn’t recommend this place highly enough.

Fantastic pub. Food is amazing, we had veggie sourdough pizza and prawn sizzler in hot honey and siracha, all very tatsy. They do thier own gin, Jakemans apple and bramble is particularly good. Friendly and helpful service too 👍

stayed for a 2nd time as an overnight on our way from Scotland to Nottingham. Lovely staff, comfy cozy room, great breakfast, cracking ale, and possibly the greatest steak & ale pie on the planet.

The rooms was amazing! The bed was unbelievably comfy! The staff were fantastic! But the best part was definitely the food, the food was out of this world! Massive portions and delicious. Would love to go back!

We stayed here for 2 nights during the week (Wednesday and Thursday), using a Buy-a-Gift voucher we had been given for Christmas. I'm really pleased we found this place. We were greeted by a lovely member of staff who ended up serving us for the 2 nights we were there. The room we stayed in (standard double) was lovely and clean. A decent size too. The flat screen TV was large enough to watch clearly from the bed - I'm guessing it was a 32" screen or similar. The shower room was modern and clean. We spent a decent amount of time in the room watching TV etc, but it was the bar and restaurant that really impressed us. Firstly the drinks. We're both fans of Guinness, and the draft Guinness at The Sun is well kept. We also tried the Madri lager, a flavoured gin and tonic, and a bottle of Malbec wine. Secondly the food. Wow. On our first night, it was theme night, and the theme was "Winter Warmers". We both opted for the home-made steak pie, with chips and veg. Absolutely delicious. Really good-sized portions too. On our second night, the full menu was available. I chose the steak and chips, while the Mrs chose one of the Chinese-style dishes (chicken in honey/chilli sauce). My porterhouse was lovely, but my wife's meal was amazing. I continually found myself using my chips to pinch the sauce from her plate. On atmosphere - it was pretty good both nights. Wednesday is the ladies' darts night, and Thursday is the men's darts. Both nights the pub was fairly busy, with a friendly atmosphere. We both felt completely welcomed. The owners and the staff who work here are lovely, they really made us welcome, and I have promised one of the owners that we will return in future, bringing our kids with us next time. Thanks for a great stay.

Sunday lunch for 3 people - probably the best Sunday lunch I've had in a long time. The choice of the different courses were great and the beef was cooked really well. The portion size was really good especially for the prices. You can have other options and not the Sunday dinner. The desserts menu has a great choice also. Received a warm welcome on arrival and was able to order drinks before going into the restaurant area. Overall, I would highly recommend it because of how fresh and tasty the food was and also how reasonably priced it was. The staff were also on point and provided a warm and welcoming service. Would arrive early to get a parking space as there are limited spaces.

Stunning little find. Food was amazing - nice relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. For starters had the king prawns and duck bao buns - delicious. Then for mains had the sizzling Cajun chicken platter & honey chilli chicken - both delicious. Fantastic portion sizes and very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend.

Been before, will certainly go again. Sue and Janey never let us down with great food and beer and service with a smile. Love it!

Lovely restaurant/pub nice choice of menu, well presented and so different! Everything served fresh! Lovely attentive, helpful and friendly staff! We were there last year as we had our touring caravan on a site near to it, we enjoyed it so we decided to try it out again this year and we were not disappointed, so much so when we go to Centre Parks next year in March we will visit again for lunch before we go into Centre Parks and introduce it to our daughter, son inlaw and grandson!

If you want friendly staff, outstanding hearty affordable food, super accommodation, this is the place for you. Felt like one of the locals. Thank you

Gem of a place ! One night stopover during our drive to Scotland. Lovely double en-suite room with a duvet that felt like I was sleeping on a cloud! Lovely restaurant area at the back of the wee cosy country bar. Dinner & breakfast was EXCELLENT. Can’t wait to stay again!

We really like Sunday lunch at The Sun Inn. Portions are generous and the quality is excellent and matched by the friendly service. The roasts are all delicious and the desserts are outstanding - add to this that the prices are very reasonable. Probably a good idea to book in advance - it's very spacious but does get busy.

We found this delightful pub after a 2 mile walk from Woodview campsite . The food was excellent and in large portions served by Lucy and Sue . The barman (whose name I didn't get) was very helpful and a credit to the pub . 10/10 and well recommend.

Excellent food and the best steak pie we have ever had

A well cared for establishment. Very rural, in a beautiful village. Clean, tidy, recent refurbishment by the looks throughout. Large car park. Good access to building, though stairs only to first floor. Well appointed bedroom, with the usual facilities, including various teas and coffee. Food choices and presentation excellent, inc' daily specials for evening meals. Usual breakfast options, hot food made on request. Family run makes a big difference, the staff are very friendly and helpful, even for the off menu requests. A lovely one day/ night stay. Thanks . We will be back.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch. Choice if beef, lamb or chicken, plus there were three other optitions if you didn't want the roast. Tasty desserts as well.

Four of us had a wonderful meal and the gluten free options were very good. We will go again and I highly recommend it.

We walked from Ullswater Heights holiday Park, to the Sun Inn along the narrow Country roads, traffic was very light, after a couple of Ales we walked to the Clickham Inn for a well earned drink before heading back to our accommodation.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay with friends at this little gem. What can we say about this plain looking pub/ b&b from the outside. Once you enter you feel the warmth from the staff straight away. Our rooms where large with everything you needed, tea, coffee, milk, bottles of water, biscuits, toiletries. Bed was really comfortable. We had our meal on the Friday night in the restaurant and it was exceptional. Lucy and her staff couldn't do enough for you and were so friendly. Breakfast on the Saturday was very filling and the produce was of good quality. Ken the chef was a really nice guy and made us feel really welcome. All I can say is Lucy you should be proud of your staff and what you are offering. We all can't wait fir our return visit. Thanks

We had 2 lovely slow roasted lamb dinners with starters of garlic mushrooms on sour dough toast & chicken tikka with 2 drinks each all for under £50 !! Amazing value and quality.

Our family's favourite place to go! Food is AMAZING. I recommend the pie! But all food is delicious! All members of staff are really friendly and a good laugh.

Fantastic country pub. We arrived late in the evening and the bar was really busy. They were hosting a darts event. It was great to see a local pub so busy. Our room was excellent and the en-suite was modern with a fantastic shower. Breakfast was spot on, local ingredients cooked really well. We had dinner one evening, the food was perfect. Proper pub food cooked really well. Good portion sizes left us full but not stuffed. They had 2 good, well kept, cask ales; loads of macro beers and cider. The bar was busy but it never took long to get served. I would recommend this pub if you want to spend a weekend exploring. It was ideally located and million times better than any chain pub/hotel could do.

It’s a shame I cant leave half a star or none we read the reviews before coming but this was diabolical chicken wings were barely warmed but apparently probed and soggy no crisp whatsoever fish medley the batter was floury and who puts coleslaw with mushy peas the menu is random and weird and the cheese on the Philly steak was a flat pack super saver cheese out the plastic no service check in with staff at all to check in how our food was or to tell us how to pay we left cash on the table with receipt the chased down by a staff member claiming we didn’t pay safe to say when told about the experience she had a face like thunder if you value the money in your wallet avoid

Stayed her for a second time. Again the experience was excellent. The staff are the nicest people I have come across in a long time. They cannot do enough to make your stay memorable. The rooms are beautiful with all the amenities you could need. Breakfast was included and what a fantastic breakfast it was. The choice available was outstanding and the chef was only to willing to make little alterations to the menu for you. All praise to proprietors Adam, Lucy and team. Will definitely visit again.

Very good food, excellent service

We popped into the pub on passing , looking for an evening meal , lucky for us there were tables free . We were shown to a table and given a menu the waitress told us it was chippy evening , no problem there we love chips . Hubby chose steak and ale pie and I chose chicken pie both with chips and peas , when the meals arrived we were both surprised at the size of the portion they were very large , with home made proper chunky chips too . The meal was amazing we couldn't fault it one bit , we also had dessert sticky toffee pudd and chocolate brownie yet again both amazing , the staff were very friendly and polite too . Would definitely recommend .

Had a really lovely stay here the past few days with my partner. The food is absolutely banging... I had a lamb shoulder roast, it was so tasty and so filling. We decided to come back the following night for food and I went with the steak and ale pie, portions were incredible, and really tasty. The Guinness was great. The pub is a proper pub, warming and welcoming. There is outside seating down by the river which was so nice in the sunshine. The rooms were spot on, bed was comfy, and the shower was decent. Clean and tidy. The staff were lovely, kind and helpful and friendly. Highly recommend staying, or just coming for a meal. Not too far off the M6. In a great location to go off to various places such as Keswick or Ullswater. Will definitely stay again one day in the future.

We have just spent two days at The Sun, very clean, lovely room & bathroom. The staff are very friendly, the food is very good but menu not extensive. We can thoroughly recommend this inn in a lovely village.

Staying in the village last week this was a great addition to find on the he doorstep. Friendly staff, good beer and great food what more can you ask for?
