Great local working mans pub, nothing extravagant. Theres a good varity of booze to suit everyones taste and a simple but good menu for food no over the top elaborate over priced dishes just simple good food and the pizza on fridays is banging highly recommended that. They also host classic car/tractor meets and host the stoke row steam rally. Been drinking here for a few years now. Nice beer garden as well.

Sunday. Called in after walking the dog and happy to see they weren’t busy and looking forward to their Sunday Roast. They served us drinks but wouldn’t take our food order as they were too busy (4 tables looked occupied) and only one person in the kitchen. We had our drinks and left . This is second time I’ve been and the service is extremely poor. Unfriendly and not welcoming at all. A shame as the garden has been done nicely. I can’t rate the food… for obvious reasons

We had a lovely lunch today April 2021, no Sunday roast due to outside dining but the food was delicious, freshly made: homemade coleslaw, great burger and fresh fish. Four of us had lunch here and it was very nice, portions on the large side. Ham, egg and chips not the norm but with belly pork, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and chips it was nice but why mess with good old ham, egg and chips served with thick slices of home cooked gammon. I received a phone call from a friend who had been looking at the reviews on the pub who suggested that the previous landlord may be back as they spotted Mark (he isn't hard to spot) in a picture of a recent review. I was excited enough to drop everything and check it out for myself. I can confirm Mark has not been at the pub for over a year and the picture from what suggested to be the best Morris Men night therefore has an issue as he was not there for this event. Just to point out, the pub has always been a pub but understandably everyone has their own opinion on what makes a 'good' pub 'good'. Whether it be good food, family friendly or geared toward the locals, this pub has done it all and everyone has their preferences. I personally preferred when the previous landlords & Mark were at the pub as Mark was a STAR and made everyone feel welcome.

The last time we came to The Sun, there was a couple running it. They were warm, family-friendly and the food was fantastic. This time the pub is under new management and it’s a disaster. There’s an air of neglect, decor is somehow now more dated, the garden is basically an extended car park and the bar has an atmosphere that this is a place just for local blokes with pick ups. It’s tragic. This place used to be worth driving to. Now unless you’re part of the local gang you should avoid.

Had chosen this pub as near the Chiltern way for lunchtime sustenance. Found they did not serve food in spite of what the website suggests. Half the beers were off. The pint of bitter I had was stale. The garden is a bit of grass at the back on the edge of the empty car park with one wobbly pic nic table and various bits of discarded rubbish. We sat at one of the tables on the roadside at the front and lunched on crisps. Very disapointing

This place was once beautifully run. It is sadly now a shell of a pub. The beer is OK but it has lost the soul the kitchen provided by Giles and Nina. Since the change of landlord this pub has gone down hill fast. The last occupants really worked hard to build a reputation for good food (great sourdough pizzas as well). The new ones do not seem interested in creating a welcome. The curry night looks quite good but otherwise nothing doing on the food side. No menus on the website says it all. This place was a Gem of a pub over the last 18 months. Shame on Richard Hazel to eject last landlord in favour of this debacle. What was once a friendly pub, with quality food and quality wine is now a pub reserved for drunken tarmac roadies. They couldn't wait to ruin the menu and wack the Stella on tap. What was once the hub of the hill community, that shared good food, conversation and good beer is now a sad, shadow of its former self.

We usually visit this pub around 1-2 times per month but will now have to find somewhere else. After out last visit we wont be returning. When we found out the previous tenants were leaving we were quite upset because we had just come across this amazing location where all of the family could choose a satisfying meal accompanied by some great beers and wines. we were always looked after by the friendly bar staff and with a few members of staff we would call them by their first names. The issue now is that the pub has approached more of a 'local pub' vibe with minimal food offering (though the beers are still good) which didnt take our fancy at all. When i visited with a friend we felt like outsiders, not very welcomed. Service was extremely slow and not worth the wait.I would not usually write a review, but I love to know where the previous team are now. If anyone reading this finds out please direct me.

I was in the area visiting and my family came down from London to go out for a meal, after looking at local restaurants I couldn’t find any that would offer food that the whole family would eat until I came across this place. After looking at the reviews I could see that the majority of people thought highly of The Sun and after visiting for dinner with my family I can see why!I’m not someone that usually leaves a rating because I don’t see the point but as I saw there were some negative reviews that said the staff weren’t friendly or helpful I thought I should say something.I’m my visit I booked a table for 7:30 on a Friday night because I didn’t want to get there and have no room, I called to say that me and my family would be 15 minutes late and the lady that answered the phone was lovely and completely understanding.Upon arrival, it was clearly not an actual restaurant but more of a pub but that isn’t me complaining. The Sun is in a nice little quiet area and for summer I bet would be a great place to go.I looked at the menu before going there and so I had a rough idea of what they served.Me and my family got a nice table in the corner so we were free to laugh and joke around HOPEFULLY without distracting too many people. The staff immediately came over and asked what drinks we would like which was nice as it looked as if they were quite busy and I was expecting a bit of a wait but that wasn’t the case.We ordered food and it isn’t cheap there but I can’t complain about quantity or quality at all. You get exactly what you pay for there in my opinion. I thought the steak that I had was quality and the chips that came with it were beyond better than standard pub chips so I was very happy. The lady that served us was lovely, always smiling and had great customer service.I would recommend this place to absolutely anyone visiting the area but as I said, the only thing that I would say is that it isn’t CHEAP, it’s not ridiculously expensive and with what you get it’s definitely proportionate but if you’re someone that usually goes to McDonalds then it’s a bit more expensive.Great place, great food and great staff.

Tried The Sun for the first time on Friday. Exterior seemed like a small village pub, nothing to get excited about! However, once inside welcome was friendly, good atmosphere. Crowded but not overwhelmingly so. Got seated immediately, with drinks brought to table. Menu interesting, with something for everyone, not just pub staple menu. Attentive service, with food produced in good time. Food itself delicious! Starter choriso with onion garnish, served on toasted ciabatta. Then highlight for me, ribeye. Cooked exactly to my specification, with cut of meat beautiful. Couldn't eat anything more after this (too full) so cant comment on desserts. Two of us with beers and soft drinks £54. We cycled here for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago. Arrived in lycra, admittedly not smart, but were clean and had money. I was really excited to see a veg plot and braces of pheasants hanging on the fence which seemed to bode well for a tasty lunch. Pub was very quiet and on sitting at a free table amongst a row of empty tables without reserved signs were asked by an unsmiling man if we'd booked and when said we hadn't were told there was only one table we could sit at (a tiny one pushed into the corner). We had made this pub the destination of our ride and I was looking forward to a hot soup followed by an indulgent pudding for warmth and calories combined with a pint. This pub used to do amazing classic British puds with lashings of custard. Soup came with croutons and when we asked if we could have some toast or a roll to make it more filling (toast was being served with another starter) were told the kitchen absolutely couldn't do this. Out of approx 6 puddings 3 had salted caramel (in the minority here but I don't like it) and all of the others were very light and non calorific. As the soup bowls were cleared the unfriendly man asked if we would be ordering anything else to eat. When we said we weren't sure he immediately said he would bring the bill. Not even the chance to think about whether we would like tea or coffee, or enjoy the warmth inside (although the atmosphere was actually enough to negate this anyway). The whole time we were there the other tables we were categorically forbidden to sit at remained empty and we left about 2ish, so not much sign they had been booked for Sunday lunch by anyone else. We used to come here often with cycling friends and always received a warm welcome and loved the warm, bubbly atmosphere. Travesty that this management has taken over an old classic. We certainly won't be back!

Make sure to book before you go! The food was absolutely fabulous, we went for Sunday lunch and started with the rosemary tear and share bread. It came warm and with butter / olive oil and balsamic vinegar and was divine. Half of our dining party had the roast beef and half the roast pork. The meat was tender, juicy and delicious, the roast potatoes were everything you would hope a roast potato would be! Light and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The Yorkshire puddings were equally good. The accompanying veg was delicious. For dessert the salted caramel brownie with ice cream and chocolate sauce was heavenly. The rich brownie was perfectly complimented by the ice cream. All in all an amazing meal! The service was excellent and the staff were friendly. We will definitely be back for more!

Friendly staff, great roast dinner, but the menu was restricted on a Sunday to roasts only.

We haven't been to this pub for a while (we have family who live in the village) and when we arrived, the decor and refurbishment looks good. We were greeted by a lovely barman who was extremely friendly and helpful. We were a party of 4, 3 had the burger and I had the crab linguine. The burgers were described as 'the best burgers they'd had ever!!!' and my linguine was amazing. You could say that the food went down very well! This is a great little pub, with a lovely welcoming atmosphere and delicious food - we will be back sooner next time!!!!

We booked a table for Sunday lunch and upon arriving and walking into the main bar, we were given a very cold welcome bordering on rude by the 2 ladies behind the bar. We ordered some drinks and were told we’d be taken into the restaurant soon. We were seated at a table just as you went in, which was very tight so as other customers came in we were knocked. The bizarre thing is the two ladies that served us were the same two that has given us the cold welcome. It was really was bizarre as they were delightful and welcoming, we did wonder if they both had identical twins.
