Featured in the Good Pub Guide and popped in for a pint whilst staying in the area. An unpretentious 15th century pub, doggy friendly and an excellent real ale from a choice of six. A local brew from the Three Tuns brewery in Bishops Castle. Friendly crew and punters.🇬🇧🇳🇿

We went for Sunday lunch today while on holiday, portions were very small especially the meat, sprouts were frozen and overcooked, hassle back potatoes were undercooked, shop bought frozen Yorkshire puddings. Mystery pudding is kept a secret until mains were finished. Finally got our table cleared to be told pud was sponge, chocolate, fruit and cream which we declined. No offer of a coffee or a refund to cover cost of desert. Won’t be going again!!!

Food at the sun at last! And amazing it was. We went on a Friday night, they were serving game casserole and it was delicious, big portions and at very reasonable price, we returned the next night for loaded chili wedges, and loaded chilli dogs. So tasty and again very reasonable. Great atmosphere and fantastic beer and service. We met the catering team after we ate and you could tell the passion they had for locally sourced food. Long may it continue. I hear they are starting Sunday lunches next year with a twist. Recommend this wonderful pub highly.

Thank goodness the Sun Folk sessions are back and the pub is in safe hands again! The monthly fun filled sessions here certainly raise my spirits. There’s always a great welcome and a great selection of real ale and some nice wines. It feels like the latest landlord really know how to make a pub a success. We must eat there soon and add that to our experience at this lovely traditional pub.

We went on a Sunday, when the main menu is focussed on roasts, but with other options still available. The roasts were excellent value at £9.50. The beer is brewed on site and was very good. The staff are very welcoming. The decor is classic pub and the internal spaces are somewhat cramped in a building this old. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

We were staying at The Sun whilst walking Offa’s Dyke. The owner very kindly picked us up from the Dyke and dropped us back again in the morning. The pub is a lovely old fashioned pub with lots of rooms and open fires. They serve local ales and ciders. Our idea of the perfect, cosy, unspoiled pub. Our room was in the old stable building. It was small but tasteful. With a different bed it would have been ideal. The bed however was more than made up for by the Elvis impersonator who entertained us in the bar. He was fabulous. Clun is a lovely little town. Don’t miss the cafe or the door Knockers!

Busy restaurant area on a Saturday evening. We noticed the portions were on the larger size so 2 out of the 3 of us just went for a main course. Great value tuna, new potatoes and salad at £10.95 which was very tasty as well. My husband enjoyed his pate for starter and liver for main course. Food service was good although we did have to get our second round of drinks at the bar. I came here with my family and some of our friends about seven weeks ago for dinner. I've been to the pub before on many occasions, as I live in the area, but we thought we'd try it out as we knew it had a new team. Firstly, a massive surprise that there were no choice of starters. Incredibly strange for a pub to not have an option of starters - not even a soup - so that, you can imagine, was instantly disappointing. However, the main dish I had was the Fish & Chips and it was delicious. A huge portion, reasonably priced, and it was super tasty. I then had the Sticky Toffee Pudding for my dessert and I may be wrong, but it looked like it had come out of tin. I kind've expected it to at least have been homemade or something a bit more finer than just out of a tin - but it was nice. Drinks were great obviously and the staff were lovely and very welcoming. Just a HUGE shame about the lack of options on the menu. I don't understand how a pub can have about 6 main options, two dessert options and no starters - it's quite baffling. Apart from that - it's a lovely pub, with very country warming vibes.

I wish I could write a better review of the Sun Inn. Unfortunately the night we were there was a perfect storm for disaster. The new managers had only been in for a couple of weeks, a funeral/memorial group arrived, the local women's institute (I think) coach party arrived plus The Flying Toads were playing. Despite asking for a table in the restaurant we were seated next to the band. Aghhh! In all fairness the place was totally overwhelmed. Even so the food and service was rubbish. Asking a server behind the bar what the pie of the day was the reply "I don't know I don't work here sums up the whole evening. I think circumstances beat the pub so I will go back and try it another time, hopefully with better results.

We had a very nice Sunday lunch at the Sun. They have avoided the temptation to do the same most other pubs which try to satisfy everyone at the lowest possible price. There were no starters, just four options for main course and another three or four deserts. Our party tried the roast beef, the mushroom pie and the lamb tagine, all were very good indeed, keeping it simple I am sure helped ensure the quality was maintained. At under £10 for the main courses it was good value for money.

We were staying at the other inn in Clun (The White Horse) but decided to eat here both for a change, and because The White Horse is a rather lively pub, and we wanted a quiet meal. No chance of that: half way through our meal a party of several dozen people came in, very loud, crowding against our table. Fair enough, as they were locals and they were entitled to a night out. But the pub had empty rooms off the main bar, so why weren't we offered the option of one of these? Talking of questions:Why don't they stock sparkling water? Why, when asked for soda (due to the lack of water), did I get tonic instead? Why, with a menu stating 'vege dish of the day', 'fish of the day' and 'various desserts' could the pub not provide the options on a chalk board, as opposed to the staff taking umbrage at being asked (twice), then disappearing for five minutes and coming back and reciting the options? Is it necessary to boil all vegetables until dead? In what way does 'cod with a mediterranean crust' translate to fish (albeit a nice bit of fish) with a tin of chopped tomatoes dumped on top?Perhaps we caught them on a bad night, but next time we'll stick to the White Horse - they only get a 3 rating instead of a 2 because the beer was good.

Since we were last there the interioor has been refurbished annd now is very comfotable but has retained the atmosphere of the country pub. Good beer to start then a interesting menu to choose from. As well as the traditional pub grub it has allso a number of more exotic dishes that you would expect from a gourmet restaurant. The black pudding starter was delicious but be warned it is sizeable so unless you have a big appetite you will find it hard to finish your main course.Fish chips and mushy peas nothing more traditional and it was excellent but a very large portion which defeated us - the dogs fared very well.Friendly service well worth the visit and we would certainly return again

A lovely pub with very comfortable guest rooms. A warm welcome and very cyclist friendly with space to store your bikes securely. The rooms are comfortable and affordable and the pub is lovely. Tony the owner is a really nice chap that goes out of his way to make sure you have a good stay. The breakfast was great quality. All the produce sourced locally. Bacon like gammon, fresh eggs, lovely sausage and fresh ground coffee. Very very good indeed. Many thanks we will be back.

Good home cooking - and child friendly too. Cosy atmosphere and very friendly service. Just what was needed. Generous portions, freshly cooked - even the child's meal was spot on. A mini version of a full meal. Great selection of real ales too. Spot on!

This Inn is the most central and the friendliest in Clun. The restaurant and menu are imaginative and reasonably priced. The rooms are comfortable and the parking facilities conveniently behind the building. The decor is rustic and atmospheric. Service and the Bar are located close to the main dining area.

I should have been suspicious when I learned that the website for this pub was out of date. It advertises Tuesday's as curry night with meals priced at £6.95. The reality is that curry night is Wednesday and the price isn't £6.95. Undeterred we booked for the Wednesday curry. Starters arrived, I chose the vegetable samosas. The first one (of three) was fine, the second one was frozen! I brought this to the attention of management expecting that I may be offered an alternative and at the very least an apology. Neither was forthcoming, the meal was merely taken away, put through the microwave again, and returned. Enter the main courses, mine was ok but my wife's rice was stone cold. Rewind and repeat, the plate was taken away without apology and returned having been re-microwaved. I paid the bill and no acknowledgment of the problems that had been experienced. The website still hasn't been changed. Will we return, what do you think!?

My wife and i whilst staying in Clun, visited the Sun inn for an evening meal. We were delighted that staff were able to find us a table as most were reserved. Staff members were really pleasant and helpful, our food was delivered hot and well presented. Our meals consisted of Scampi and chips with mushy peas, together with Beer battered cod with chips and mushy peas. Good old fashioned pub food, but it was all delicious. The meals including drinks cost £23. The pub was full at 6-00pm with plenty of banter, and was clean and tidy. Will definitely return.

A warm welcome in this beautiful, cosy pub/restaurant. The food was fantastic, well cooked and of high quality. Plenty of choice from a main menu and superb specials on offer. The staff are friendly and efficient. A well run pub with happy staff. And clearly a very good chef…. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed the evening too being given a warm welcome, plenty of fuss and a bonio! So lovely to be able to take your dog out with you when you go out to dinner. Thank you all at the Ragleth Inn.
