The pub bit is nice with great beers. However thought the food and service was sub-par. We were told originally that the kitchen was supposed to shut at 8.30 and some of our guests were going to arrive a bit later than the rest of the party (around 7.50). Instead they shut the kitchen at 7.45 and wouldn't budge for our guests who were 5 minutes away because the chef was "overwhelmed". As a result our extra guests were unable to eat. The place was maybe half full. The food was somewhere between a wetherspoons meal and satisfactory and left a lot to be desired. That being said, it wasn't too expensive. I'd come again for the ambience and beer in the bar area but probably wouldn't eat.

Was looking forward to my Sunday roast based on previous reviews. I was a bit t disappointed. Theork was very fatty asucg as one third was fat. The vegetable were warm and the apple sauce had cold straight from the fridge. The best but was the cabbage and bacon in creamy sauce. Overall very average.

Good traditional English pub serving classic Sunday roast Only downside was the r oast potatoes were seemingly deep fried rather than fully roasted.Perhaps its a Shropshire custom, but not to my liking.Smaller(and cheaper portions) are great value.

Brilliant atmosphere in this pub. Clearly well supported by regular customers but as tourists visiting for the first time this evening we were made very welcome by the easy going and friendly staff. We also had food and it was excellent and served to us in a very timely fashion. We interacted with three members of staff all of whom were friendly and professional. Other customers were also very friendly. I don’t leave reviews often but just had to in this instance.

We had a Sunday roast here and it was absolutely delicious and plentiful. There was also the option of a smaller portion for a lesser price which I find particularly useful sometimes (but not this time). It was a very welcoming place with a log burner for the cool afternoons. A good range of beers. The staff were really friendly. I would definitely recommend and I will definitely return.

Great local.. Msg them the week before regarding about the 6 nations and dinning, if we'd need to book. Mgg'd back almost straightaway with a more detailed answer to my question a little later. Was busy in there early on. Not the biggest front bar. There is a back room with a lot more space. Service and beer choice was good. Wifey is a vegi, choices were slightly limited for her ( they'd run out of what she wanted). I had the ale pie, was goood, portion size ok. Place was very popular with walkers. Would go back without qualms.

We had the whole back area to ourselves. The food was fantastic. I had pie and mash and a pint of Shropshire Gold ale... it was delicious. They catered brilliantly for vegetarians, vegans and gluten free folk as well as meat eaters. The pub has a great atmosphere. This is what pubs should be - a beautiful unspoilt historic interior, friendly welcoming staff, and a feel of vibrant community. The fact that I then had the best Sunday roast I can remember was the icing on the cake. We were very lucky to grab a table so please do book if you intend to visit for Sunday lunch, the food and service are incredibly good! We just happened to be passing and asked if they had a table, they advised us to come back in 30 minutes and true to their word when we came back a table was ready. The food was excellent, could not fault any of it, both the starters and mains were great and we had no room for deserts, the service was attentive and friendly throughout, a number of people were very politely turned away due to no tables being available, hence the comment to book if you can. A fantastic place for Sunday lunch, sets a standard that many more illustrious places in Shropshire should aspire to in terms of food and service.

A brilliant find this pub is delightful! We visited on the first night of our stay and enjoyed drinks (especially the blueberry gin liquor!) and the great atmosphere and discovered they do a Pizza night on Tuesdays so visited again the next day for pizza. The pizzas were delicious and great value too. They’re so big we couldn’t finish them as we’d ordered chips too but happily took away a box with the leftovers!
