Had an excellent Sunday lunch, Pork with stuffing, apple sauce, roast potatoes and Yorkshire, separate dish of veg, extra gravy. It was really delicious. Such a shame that the pub is closing at the end of the month as no-one will take over the lease. Have been going to this pub for over 40 years, had many family get togethers here & my father who lives in the village will really miss his fish & chips. Hopefully someone will take it over before too long.

We booked the Olde Sun for my Dad’s wake which by virtue of what it is felt like one booking you never want to go wrong, but I need not have worried. Upon booking, Sean talked me through how it would work and reassured me it would all go perfectly and it did. We were welcomed with a drink and/or tea and coffee and everything was ready in the private lower bar. The buffet was tasty and varied, good quality and generous. Sean and his team really looked after us and our guests well, even down to parking. I am really grateful and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Visited with my family for my nan's 88th birthday. This pub is somewhere we always used to visit and have family 'get-togethers' when I was little in the late 80s to mid 90s, and have great memories. It's not how I remembered it, however. (Though to be fair this was 30/35 years ago) Service was quick and we ordered very quickly, but they were short staffed & we were waiting over an hour for our mains, however, they gave us a complimentary dish of chips to apologise with our mains when they came. Hats off need to go to the young girl waitress, who seemed to be doing everything on her own, and doing her absolute best, so she deserves recognition. The food was absolutely delicious despite the wait, and our compliments were passed on to the chef. Would recommend a visit.

While canal boating for a week on this stretch of the Grand Union Canal, we were becoming a little disappointed by the lack of quality pubs serving good food on or a short walk from the canalside. Until we came across the Olde Sun. Beautiful old pub with a delightful interior and friendly service. And the food is amazing. The ploughmans was traditional, with great quality produce and everything a ploughmans should be. My 12 year old son had the fish and chips, which despite being a very generous size, he polished off with gusto. Meanwhile my partner opted for the venison cottage pie which he couldn't stop raving about - "the best cottage pie I've ever eaten" etc 😆 A lovely lunch, a couple of drinks and a game of pool - a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours. I can't recommend this pub enough.

Had a weeks holiday in the Grand Union Canal. This was our third meal out, and the best by far. Good quality and generous portions. Would definitely return. Clearly the decor may not be to everyone’s taste, but it’s an ‘old time’ pub. What things look like is less important than the quality of the food and drink. Friendly service too.

Our family of 5 booked a table for a Sunday roast. On arrival it was like one of those films when everyone stops what they’re doing and it goes silent because there are “outsiders”. It felt very uncomfortable, particularly as we weren’t acknowledged when we went to the bar to ask about our table. The food was nice and the lady serving us was friendly. But the atmosphere just felt very wrong. When we were leaving we noticed a large Gollywog sign near the entrance. Unbelievable. The fact that the proprietor doesn’t realise that this is not acceptable is perhaps the reason why it felt so uncomfortable for a non white family. Shameful. But maybe this pub isn’t for people who look like us.

After a change of time on our behalf and a few issues we did eventually sit down to eat at 8 15pm Disappointed to find out that thurs was steak night and steak was all they cooked..They did do my do pregnant daughter just chips and onion rings. This is where it went downhill we asked for chunky chips which was on menu skinny fries were brought out on all 4 steaks when I queried it the lady just said oh sorry..The steak deal was 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £25 we were never offered any wine we did however have a bottle of prosecco which wasn't included on our bill but we were charged for an extra steak..we tipped the waitress as we were later eating and she was pleasant enough.. The next day 4 out of the 5 of us were all ill...We did email the pub to thank them for accommodating us with the late arrival and to inform them of us bring ill yet 5 days later we have had no reply no great customer service.. Basically over charged not offered the wine that supposedly comes with meal deal not great wouldn't return

Moored our boat up in Nether Heyford and walked up to the village for some shopping. We fancied a drink as it was quite a hot day and discovered The Olde Sun, very friendly young barman poured us 2 very reasonably priced pints of Strongbow and when I commented on price let us know about happy hour when each pint would be 50p cheaper We then had a chat with him about food options and were offered 3 different menus - pizza, sandwiches and hot food; he advised that this was still the restricted menu but full menu would be restarting Friday 07 August. Despite this being a restricted menu, there was still plenty of choice with both of us opting for roast beef baguette, meat was perfectly cooked (rare) and they were the best chips I have ever had in a pub - crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. We are going to stay here for a few days and will be going back tonight for an evening meal and to take advantage of happy hour and will book for Sunday lunch too.

This pub has had it's share of problems with changes of ownership and temporary closures, so we went there today for Sunday Lunch not knowing what to expect. We had a very warm welcome and were pleased to find they were doing food again.Although the main bar is undergoing refurbishment at the moment, this was not a problem,Lunch was served in the restaurant at the back and all the tables were nicely laid with clean, starched white tablecloths. The waitresses were delightful and, what a welcome touch in a pub, immediately offerd a jug of water without being asked. My wife and I both had the roast pork Sunday lunch for £11.00 which was delicious. The pub deserves to do well and appears to be recovering from its past difficulties and is deserving of support.

Tonight my partner and I went to Vale’s Restaurant within The Olde Sun. Tonight was opening night and I must say the food was totally amazing, the atmosphere was warm, friendly and welcoming. Just been newly decorated it was so cosy. My partner had breaded mushrooms for starter and rib eye steak for mains. The steak was cooked to perfection and the chips were Homemade. I had tomato soup for starters and steak and Ale pie with mash potato and veg and this dish was to dye for. The pie was tasty, succulent beef, cooked to perfection. There is nothing bad I can say about our visit to this restaurant. So glad we tried it and will definitely be going back on a regular basis. The portion sizes were big so unfortunately we were too full to have a pudding. Already booked for the Christmas menu. The best village pub/restaurant I have been too. Chose this pub as a half way pub and I know the village. The menu isn't cheap for pub grub £12/13 for a (Venison) Burger, or Fish and chips or Camembert as a main/sharing plate. They had no Prawns, Sausages or Fish - partly apparently because of the roadworks in the village (we got there, coming from M1 and Weedon). Service was good - we were almost the only ones there (it was very cold with all the doors open). Tues lunchtime was empty, unsurprisingly. It's an old, quite dark, character pub. Lots of space. Venison burger was about right - cooked perfectly dark pink, baked Camembert came with 6 generous slices of mixed bread. The chips were great, as was the coleslaw, I've eaten locally at Weedon with far better value for money. The presentation suggested they take pride in their food and maybe our timing was a bit Fawlty Towers regarding deliveries. I didn't think it was really worth the money for the food, but depends on your idea of value.

We had a fab lunch at the Olde Sun taking our older son as an end of term treat, the food was lovely and we had great service. My friend had also asked if we could use the pub garden to host an end of school party straight from school as our younger son’s village school is right next door. The landlord could not have been better, he was happy for us all to meet, bring garden games and nibbles for the kids and he would supply ice cream and juice. He catered for several special dietary needs without quibble and the waitress was amazing, bringing numerous bowls of ice cream to kids (think trying to herd cats). Hospitality at its finest, relaxed and inclusive, we are lucky to have such a great pub in our village.

Waked into the village from nearby barge mooring, not knowing what to expect. Lovely old place with bar skittles and more brassware than I've ever seen in a pub. Several top notch real ales and friendly staff who happily accommodated us and our mutt. Mainly steaks on offer but all the cuts ordered were large and very high quality, presented on hot stones thus allowing you to effectively cook to your liking. My only whinge is that the "fast food chips" let the meal down somewhat - need to switch to chunky home prepared so as to match the quality of the meat but nonetheless, this was an enjoyable meal and evening overall. Probably the best evening out for us during the week spent barging in the general vicinity. Nice one.

FABULOUS!We have regularly used the carvery on a Sunday, taken our family and friends and its the best Sunday roast in the area! Excellent food. 3 delicious meats, super roast potatoes, lovely veg (particularly lovely cauliflower cheese) and really tasty gravy not like you get at times when its in a mass produced chain pub.The carvery is served until 5pm and we have arrived at 4.30pm and the food was just as delicious...often when you arrive at a pub just before end of service the food can be under par but not here. The ladies that do the carvery work very hard to produce a lovely roast and have always worn gloves and use tongues without fail so I find the previous review very difficult to believe as our experience on many occasions could not be more different. We will be back very soon....

My husband I went in on Saturday evening for a drink. Locals welcoming and bar maid excellent. Booked for the carvery on the Sunday.. The meat looked liked like it had been killed at least 3 times before we ate it. Meat was dry to a level I'd never seen, potatoes cold, cabbage was drowning in water, cauliflower was a dollop if white stuff, there was only 2 peices of parsnips that were unrecognisable as food for human consumption,, I asked for a Yorkshire pudding which I recognised as Aunt Betsies, there were 3 on a plate on a table next to the carvery not covered or under heat that the chef was going to put on my plate, I asked if there was a fresh one, she went into her plate warmer picked one up and threw it on to my plate saying "sorry about the hands" I was in total shock at this point. The food was cold and inedible the gravy was cold we left the table without eating more than a couple of mouthfuls. We went into the bar to finish our drinks and the cook came out and asked if we enjoyed our food. Not only did she fail to notice we left our food on the table directly in front of the carvery she failed to notice we were in the bar within 5 Mins of being at the carvery. When we said no and told her why, she looked at us in discussed as said "I find that hard to believe no one else has compained" she didn't look at us or attempted to defend the pathetic excuse she attempted to make us eat in the name of food. A few mins later she came back to the bar area and put the money we paid for the food on the table. We didn't get " I am sorry you weren't happy with the food it is a bit late in the afternoon and it wasn't at its best" we got "there your money back," she didn't even stop whilst putting it on the table.its such a shame as it is a fantastic building shame the humans that occupy it let it down.

Three of us ordered a burger but they were awful. Didn't eat them but nobody asked why. The bun was rock hard and the burger was over cooked. Wanted to try Sunday Lunch but it's put us off. Overkill on the brass, bit creepy. Barmaid is lovely though.

We discovered the Olde Sun a few years ago when looking for a stop off the M1 that was more inviting than the Service Station. In those days we'd found a gem. A lovely quirky old pub with a lovely garden in a pleasant village. We sampled both lunch and evening meals which were excellent. Unfortunately the pub appears to have changed hands and when we last stopped for lunch the service and food were indifferent. When we called again we had forgotten this but we needn't have worried about indifferent food because they no longer do evening meals. Very disappointing. They'll have to work hard to entice us back.

We arrived 30 minutes before our booking at 2.00pm. It was unusual from the start asking us to pay for the carvery on arrival. We could see why as the food was sparse and had been on the carvery trolley for some time. When asked for more swede the answer was no none left. Other veg was just the same, not much of it and what was left over had been on show for some time.Roast potatoes were also dried up. Roast Beef was not bad but have tasted better. All in all we felt let down at having to pay over £7.00 each for one course and for such poor quality. We have eaten at The Olde Sun several times some years ago when the quality was excellent.

Generous servings of the meats on offer (today, beef, lamb, turkey). We were booked in for 2.30pm, service runs from 12 midday to 5.00pm, the choice of vegetables was good and everything was hot, but like any food that is kept hot for buffet style service it was probably better when freshly served up. Early days for them as this is a new service for this pub. I'd recommend trying an earlier booking

I've driven from M1 J16 towards Daventry and past their sign but never been to look for the pub in NETHER HEYFORD. However having found it - no easy task - what a delight it turned out to be. Parked outside and met inside door with warm greeting from staff and a multiple choice of drinks. Atmosphere really good with copper/brass paraphernalia everywhere and what looked like a nice wide menu choice if I'd chosen to eat. Some table skittles type game in the corner and Sky on mute so I could read and sup my beer in peace or look up and follow what was going on. I'll make a point of going another time now I know where it is. Recommended good pint.

We have visited this pub many times over the last couple of years. It is very traditional and maybe even olde worlde inside with many brass and copper ornaments and enamel signs for brands gone by! They have usually got four hand pulled ales (including Pedigree and Ruddles Best) aswell as lagers, keg beers and several wine choices. The pub changed ownership at the end of 2015 and a few changes were put in place that some won't like, but basically the often underused formal dining room was repurposed as a sports bar for the Saturday crowd but this still leaves room for about eight or so tables in the lounge area, plus you can eat in the large bar area too.The menu is typically pub grub and a main meal will cost from around £9 and upwards. The food is now back on track after a bit of a falter earlier in the year and you shouldn't leave feeling hungry as portions are plenty ample. If you are in the area then give it a try for yourself!

Wow what a hidden Gem!Beautiful hanging baskets and Old mangles used to hold flowers is the first thing that draws your eyes.On entering you will then be amazed by all the wonderful Brass and memorabilia- it's amazing a real trip back in time to a traditional village pub.Great Food available that caters for most people including a children's menu and a Sunday Roast menu. There's a separate restaurant area to the bar and a fantastic garden with a bouncy castle to keep the little ones amused.Well worth a visit and the service is excellent with a great product range of real ales, lagers, ciders , Wines and a good Coffee option.

We visited for lunch one sunny day in May. We decided to sit in the garden which was well tended and had a decent player area for children. The pub was packed with a party of 30 diners. However, it didn't take long to get our drinks. We ordered our food and we were warned that it could be up to 30 minutes to wait because of the large party. We told Sally that we were in a hurry. She offered to get out meals prepared soon as she possibly could. In reality, our food turned up within 15 minutes which was excellent service considering how many people were being catered for. Well done and many thanks.

Used to be favourite for visitring on regular basis, but since change of ownership gone a bit down hill. Still a firm favourite with the locals but mainly for drinks & snacks. All food now served in the pub area, which is small full of character, but difficult to sit eat comfortably inside if full. There is room outside to sit & eat plus some tables in the small garden attached to the pub. Not on the any main travel route means it has to come recommended or find via guides. Food the usual quick snack type with grills, steaks, burgers, jacket potato dishes.

We were on our way to Leicester and needed some refreshment and a break from the motorway. This little pub really hit the spot. A country local with a warm welcome and delicious food. Some of us had the ham, egg and chips - a choice of portion size was a nice option. The jacket potatoes with chilli were delicious, fresh and well presented. Great choice of real ales. Relaxing and plenty of places to sit for the 4 of us. Beautifully kept outside area with unusual flower arrangements. Good parking space. If were are in the area again - we will definitely return.

Consigliato vivamente!

Really friendly local village pub, well patronised by locals and some from surrounding villages. Excellent cask ales with a weekly guest ale. Although this is not a food pub, it does sell heated sausage rolls, cornish pasties, and pizza twirls along with the usual crisps, peanuts, etc. There are regular events such as Live singers, Karaoke, Bingo, and a,weekly meat raffle on a Sunday at 4.00pm followed by 'Play your cards right'. Still very much the hub of the Community. Nothing has altered, a brilliant Village pub serving excellent beverages to the Community along with a venue for friends and families to meet together. Unfortunately, the current Landlord has had to serve notice due to price rises across the board. Hopefully, the owner will try to maintain it as a community asset. Only 5 weeks remaining as a pub in its own right. I believe it will be closed for a few weeks and reopen as an Indian restaurant under a new name and management. I will have to wait and see if it will retain any 'wet' trade for locals. The pub closed and has now re opened as a bar and grill Bangladeshi restaurant. Moocha Wala.

Only stopped for a pint. Seemed nice. I've had a meal in here also. The tables were set out nicely, enough that my OAP friends could easily hear what was being said. Food was good. We weren't looking for a cheap meal. I thought that we found it reasonable. Always a pleasant setting for a quick pint.
