Have been given great reviews about the Sunday lunch from a friend of our but we have yet to try it. We popped in for a drink and a 'look see' whilst in the area. Taditional pub, nice interior and welcome. Extensive 3 sided lounge around a central bar. Garden at rear. Decent choice of ales.

Great food at The Sun. We had the Beef Enchillada which was served with salad and chips. It was a generous serving and was very tasty. At £7.95 excellent value too.

Classic British pub, nothing fancy but with character and good vibes. The food was delicious and affordable, the right choice for someone looking for something nice and within budget.

Godalming and its surrounds has many pleasant pubs and was just a case of eventually coming around to venture into here for sake of balance. On initial entry, was tired, smelt bad and very unwelcoming looks. Dreary selection of drinks but made the best. Within a few minutes, was a lot of bad language and unpleasantness noted from a customer. Shockingly, when seeing others reactions, it turns out it was the landlord! What a thoroughly unpleasant character, insulting and swearing at all and sundry. Really couldn't believe it. To be that drunk and unpleasant at your own hostelry. Was like an episode of Shameless. Avoid at all costs!

We've just had Sunday Lunch, ordered in the week, collected at 1.00pm, was all ready. Perfect. Packaged well, dished up onto hot plates. It was absolutely perfect, everything cooked to perfection. We had 2 x Roast Pork and 1 x roast Beef.In this current climate is so good to have something so nice and 'normal' to look forward to.Already thinking of next week.Phil

My husband was craving for fish and chips and we popped into this pub. Tracy, our host was super nice and attentive. The batter for the fish was light, chips were delicious and portion was large. We enjoyed the food so much we made reservation for the Sunday Roast lunch. All safety rules were in n place , pub was very clean in my opinion and I felt very safe.

Just had Sunday lunch in The Sun Inn in Godalming. We have been here twice for Sunday lunch and I think it’s certainly the best in town! Such a friendly pub and warm welcome.

Awful service, landlord is very rude. Not a very welcoming pub and they seem to judge people as soon as you walk in. Much better pubs in the area.

Stopped in passing for a drink with friends (all female) on way home from meal out. The atmosphere as we entered was strange but we order drinks despite being made to feel entirely unwelcome by the lady behind the bar who didn’t even crack a smile... the treatment we then received from what I assume were male locals at the bar was appalling. They were incredibly rude not allowing us to get to the bar to order and pay for our drinks, as we moved to a different area to sit down one even swore at my friend. Another then made a personal comment towards me. The deliberate intimidation was in no way challenged by the staff who continued to stare at us without smiling... and so we cancelled our order and left and went to a much nicer pub up the road... (the three lions). We had been in good spirits as we arrived and were giggling a bit but certainly nothing to provoke such treatment. Their loss and absolutely not how to run a business... but sad because as my friends were visitors to the area and so I felt so embarrassed. I would urge people to avoid this place at all costs.

We occasionally pop into The Sun on a Friday evening, they have three big TV’s showing the live Sky football match. After the match at 9.30pm, there’s a local live band, different band every time we’ve been in, playing a variety of music... just creates a lovely atmosphere with the friendly staff & local people. Not tried the food but there is a decent pub menu, although it does lack on the vegetarian side — Has a variety of excellent guest ales, just a very pleasant place to have a relaxing evening, specially if you like a combination of football and live music!

We were a group of 15 walkers. I phoned ahead to reserve a space so we could all sit together. Most of us had sandwiches which were excellent, really well filled, lots of filling and nice granary bread which was not too chunky. Most of us had prawn or beef sandwiches which were accompanied by a small side salad. Excellent value. Really friendly and efficient barmaid. We also met Joe the chef and congratulated him on his food! We will definitely return.

I booked The Sun despite a fullhouse, thanks to an inspired kindness from Tracy, Upon arrival, I found it to be just the sort of warm, friendly, traditional pub that I most enjoy --- one where it's easy to relax and feel at home, The staff was responsive to all needs, and an entirely agreeable pub-grub-and-beyond menu (along with daily specials) was part of the comfort on offer. My room was lovely, with attractive linens on the beds and striking prints on the walls.The bathroom certainly looked quite recently redone, and the towels were thick. Moreover, the location, at one end of the high street, is excellent. All travellers are different; The Sun simply seemed very right to me.

Rooms very tired and in need of a revamp, good position in the centre of godalming,close to shops and lots of restaurants,staff not that helpful

I pop in here to watch football. Staff are nice, local crowd friendly (banter during matches is good)... chef seems to take care of grub, especially Sunday Lunch. Good Badger beers and the sledgehammer of Old Rosie scrumpy cider.

The Chef Jo Manneh is quite surprisingly brilliant. His Sea Bass w tiger prawns today at lunch was really succulent and better than anywhere else! £13.95 and no extras for veggies. The medium rare rump steak £13.95 that was the reason we returned two days later was also as good as it gets... I love English pubs after 30 years in the US and to find one w five star quality cuisine is a joy. Less expensive than most of the local competition. The bar is given over to music on Fridays and Saturdays and it is the best live music in town. The lead guitarist of Ocean Blues is as good as they get. I know these things.

First time here and was pleasantly surprised. Friendly welcome and good service. Food was excellent - fish and chips were top notch (chips were crispy as if they had been twice friend). TV screens for football lovers so one of us was happy!

A group of us WI ladies met at the Sun for our Christmas meal last night and the food was amazing. It was the first time I have been there and now reading the other reviews about chef Joe I can fully understand why he's got such a good reputation. I had the stuffed mushrooms as a starter which were delicious followed by sea bass fillets which were cooked to perfection. The vegetables too were the most lovely selection and again absolutely spot on. So pleased to have found this gem in Godalming and can't wait to try more of Joe's menu. He's someone who is obviously passionate about his food and cares that his customers enjoy their meal. The staff too were extremely friendly and helpful. A very traditional pub and yes very much a sports pub so if that's not your thing maybe avoid big match days but the food is outstanding.

The highlight of this pub is without question the superb food served by chef Joe Manneh. Far better food than the vast majority of pubs and restaurants locally.

Pleasant pub with some good real ales. It is always clean and well run and service is excellent with a good menu offering a variety of dishes all of which are well presented. Sunday lunches are excellent. Regular entertainment with live bands and discos.

One of the best b&b;'s We've stayed in. Rooms very good and CLEAN. Duncan the landlord is very good at his job. Bar is great atmosphere and the food is fantastic. 10/10.

Me quitó a almorzar después de un paseo por el río de Guildford. Es un pub británico local, amable y una buena selección de mejor. Nada especial, sólo un lugar de la tierra, pero la comida era excelente. Tuve la gambas y recomiendo vivamente. La familia.

Bien, Joe Manneh, los incomparables, ahora es chef en el Hostal del Sol y su menú está lleno de su milagrosa, platos de autor. Si te gusta una comida estupenda, venga y disfrute de su excelente, filetes, gambas pescado y patatas fritas, etc. Lo mejor de todo es su plato cigalas - enormes gambas picantes en pasta con patatas fritas doradas y marrones - guarnición ensalada vinagre vestidos. No lo tienes nada bueno en un restaurante de 5 estrellas Michelin.

Visitamos en la tarde con algunas facultades. Nos recibieron de inmediato y lugar tenía gran ambiente por la noche. La cerveza era genial y bien de precio. Sin duda recomiendo este lugar. Cálido y acogedor, con un personal fabuloso.

Dos de nosotros entramos e inmediatamente nos sentimos como en casa. Mejor asado los domingos que hemos tenido en mucho tiempo, y de un gran valor. Servicio excelente. En el momento en fútbol, pero no arruinó nuestra comida, ya que el ambiente era muy agradable y no demasiado ruidoso. Le recomendamos cordialmente este pub.

Vimos el Partido Liverpool v Man Utd anoche. Gran sports bar con ambiente igualmente genial. Lugar muy concurrido pero en servicio. No hay comida disponible - un poco de sorpresa.

Came here with friends for a meal and was amazed by the prices, food and service. We will be coming back again.

Went here for a family birthday. Had a wonderful meal. Great staff. To top it all off the chef made us an amazing birthday cake as a surprise. Would defiantly recommend it :)

A typically tasty lunch at the Sun. Nice menu and very well done indeed. Can really recommend the chicken burger - real chicken breast and brilliantly cooked.

Quick, affordable lunch and a small outdoor seating area acts a perfect sun trap. Nice with friends.

Impressed with the quality, quantity and taste of meals we had. Were expecting the usual pub type meals and were very impressed with those we chose.Homemade food served in a very presentable manner.Recommend fishcakes, chicken & mushroom pie & butter nut squash lasagne.The quantities were good and food delicious.The chef came out to speak to us which was really reassuring.The staff were so friendly, attentive and made the whole experience enjoyable. We wanted the opportunity on our visit to Godalming to support the 'local pub' and really glad we did. So much of a better ambience than we've experienced for a long time.

My family are locals at this pub and I would always visit when in the area. The staff are friendly and always accommodating. The food is tasty and generous and there is a nice choice of drinks. Great pub for watching sports and does get busy for the big games and sporting events. Wifi is also available ! Nice bunch of people !

My wife & I are regulars at The Sun and have been for many years. There is a great atmosphere and the food is really tasty. Dan & Lou are the best culinary team The Sun has had in my opinion. We will be going back regularly for food and the friendly atmosphere. I would highly recommend it

Was just walk be this pub and saw the wonderful flowers and just had too go in for a bit off for saw the small manufacturers outside so thought I'd way not looks like a nice place what in and the staff where so friendly and polite. The manu was every nice and will lead out and I had fish the chips biggest bit off cod chips where every nice and will seand and love the mushy peas love them will for sure be back.

Good pub atmosphere. Small menu but food was excellent and there was more than I could eat. Friendly, welcoming and efficient staff. Reasonable price. Clearly had regular customers. I would definitely go back when in the area.

Have eaten in many places in Godalming and believe this is the best quality and value food you will find. Fresh good quality ingredients at extremely reasonable prices. The calamari is amazing so are the chicken and pesto sandwiches not to mention the Thai green curry. Amazing!

Absolutely beautiful food and an incredible chef who spoke to us personally when an error occurred. The error was actually our own, but we were treated courteously and the chef not only gave us no cause to be embarrassed but went over and above any service expectations. We will be returning to this establishment for the best Sunday roast I have had in years (the Yorkshire puddings are like heavenly bready cakes) and for the friendly and service. We promise not to make the same mistake, thank you for the extra lamb and lolly! We left a tip behind the bar for the chef, we hope you got it.

Without doubt the best Thai green curry I've ever had. The flavours are amazing and the sauce is so creamy. Staff are polite and friendly and defiantly worth the trip down. Would recommend to anyone :)

If you want a warm welcome in a Godalming pub, the Sun is the one for you. Tracy, Duncan and all the team contribute to a great atmosphere for locals and visitors alike. The pub is already a popular place for sports coverage and has live music at weekends.A very welcome recent addition is a chef who provides an excellent and varied menu including snacks, specials and a range of delicious main courses which make you wish you had room for seconds. A personal favourite is the liver and bacon and the Sunday roasts are really tasty.. Great food with great presentation, great pub and it's dog friendly.

The Sun is by far the best traditional public house in Godalming. It has a great atmosphere with very friendly and welcoming hosts,Duncan and Tracy and staff alike. As well as being a "locals pub" it is very accommodating with visiting guests. It offers a good selection of "real ales", as well as live music every weekend and an extensive range of sports coverage is also on tap.. It has also recently acquired a new chef who clearly is very passionate about "Cooking". and has produced some mouth watering home cooked food, using quality ingredients and this is clearly displayed in his presentation..... The menu is very well thought out offering anything from snacks,to full courses and also specials at very reasonable prices. I would personally recommend any of the " Sunday Roasts" Overall excellent food!!!

The Sun is one of our favourite Pubs in Godalming. It has always had a great atmosphere plus the attraction of excellent Sports coverage.Now it also has a Chef who delivers a Menu to suit all needs from easy lunchtime snacks to specials and full meals.Freshly cooked using quality ingredients, his food is a delight. W love the Liver & Bacon with Creamy Mash and Onion Gravy although his Sea Bream with Samphire is equally as delicious

Visited on recommendation from friends who raved about the new chef. Cannot fault the food or prices. Most of the staff were attentive and friendly. The only reason I haven't rated this pub 5/5 is the bar manager. A small blond lady. We felt a nuisance from start to finish and everything we asked for was too much trouble for her. My partner even caught her rolling her eyes at me when I turned away. She didn't even try to engage with us and remained deadpan which spoiled what would otherwise have been a lovely lunch. Hats off to the chef and the super friendly barman but we won't be returning in a hurry unless the manager either loses her attitude or the pub loses the manager.

My husband and myself both enjoyed a roast dinner this lunch time at The Sun. I have to say it really was lovely. Home cooked food that is full of flavour, I would definitely recommend this pub both for the friendly atmosphere and excellent food!

We traveled from Basingstoke after hearing that a new Chef had taken over the kitchen of this pub. Was well worth the journey as it was one of the best and tastiest roasts I have enjoyed in a pub for a good while. The presentation was wonderful and made my mouth water in anticipation of the meal presented to me. I had the Lamb and my companion had the Beef. We both agreed that the meat was so tender it melted in our mouths. The selection of vegetables was good and portion sizes were very good.

Spacious pub but a bit dominated by tv screens. But managed to have a business meeting nevertheless. Barman was friendly.

This pub has go a great shape and we had a lovely drink after going to the Godalming Borough Hall for a CHristmas fair. Sometimes it looks as if the staf aren't happy.

We were wandering around Godalming after dinner at the Wharf and fell into the Star - somewhere that two of our party remembered from some 30 years ago!I won't say it hasn't changed (my memory is not that good) but it felt warm and reassuring as well as welcoming. There was a good selection of beers on offer and I hope it will not be another 30 years before I return!

Duncan and Tracey are good hosts in this very pleasant and traditional public house. They serve a good selection of real ales in good 'condition' at reasonable prices. There is a varied and good menu with some great pub dishes all in pleasant environment.

I was really looking forward to having a pint of Badger ale. Sadly, they didn't have any Tanglefoot, or Blandford Flyer so I settled for a First Call. Unfortunately, I have had better in bottles!Maybe it was just an off day - but as I live round the corner, I will go back to try again

I visited the Sun yesterday evening for the first time to see The Flyers. Similar to a city pub with character. We enjoyed our drinks and had a very enjoyable evening being entertained by the band who are to be recommended. Friendly staff. Will definitely make a return visit when in Godalming and for their live music. Check out their website for scheduled bands. Flyers also perform as a duo called The Missing Men. Have seen them several times and they played at our daughters wedding.

Popped in here to watch the rugby, as this was the only place in Godalming willing to show the 6 nations. The staff were friendly and accommodating and it was a really great atmosphere.

Nice pub, although could do with a bit of updating. I like the decking area out the back, which backs onto the high street, a good place to people watch.

Friendly staff typical pub food well cooked bit overpriced but have used before and will use again nice to sit out on a sunny day

Went for breakfast...the sausages taste worse then cheap walls..the bacon was cold.. the service was poor...The chef kept coming out of the kitchen, and that is not something to be proud of due to her poor hygiene. would not go there EVER again.

Tasteless Microwaved food... ill trained staff, who knew nothing on the menu and couldn't even pronounce correct wine names. would not come here again.

Nice bar friendly staff but very much a locals pub, could do with a bit updating, good for sports on TV, food is average pub grub.
