The Stump and Candle in Boston

Went in for a drink. Looked at his handpull beers. Man serving didn't offer any constructive advice on the beers available except one was like a bitter. I ask fir a small taste only to be refused. Apparently his beer is cheap enough to start with. So I said if I have a pint and don't like it I've wasted my money at which point he shrugged. We left and went to the church keys pub with a lovely welcome nice beets and a log fire. RESULT. THANK YOU.

Do not go to this pub in times of hardship I would expect you need as many people in your pub as possible, not this place when it’s empty 2 near 60 year olds get refused entry because of there excuse that there are not enough glasses, never been refused entry to a pub in my life the place stinks keep well away

Lovely cosy pub. Very reasonable beer prices. Staff were very friendly. Came in to get out of the cold and it was lovely and warm.

well terrible place landlady horrible always sat with her friends who call you behind your back.The place stink of bo misserable people dirty loos mouldy walls needs new owners get rid of them

Really don’t like posting a review like this but was shocked at the treatment received. I was waiting for my wife in town, thought I would pop in and have a drink while I waited. Ordered a coke, sat reading bbc sport on my phone. My wife came in and sat next to me. I was only half way through my drink then the landlord came over and asked me to buy another drink my wife did want one so I was told to buy one or leave. I argued that I was a paying customer only to be told they have a business to run and they do need people like me. Bit more back and forth where the level of rudeness was very surprising! Lived in town my whole life used to go here when it was Martha’s and when Kai owned it and was always a good night. Now I’d never step foot in there again. Great location but unfortunately I think the owners will run it into the ground- shame if they do but would be deserved! Genuinely shocked

If I could have given a zero I would have. Went in with a friend after shopping and to celebrate my birthday which was the following day. There were 10 or so regulars in there with the landlady sat with some of them given us dirty looks and generally taking the Micky out of us because we weren’t locals. Glasses were dirty, atmosphere atrocious and the rudest landlady ever. Avoid

Well used to always go in. But because I opened my mouth to the bar staff and was told off for telling the truth. Then the landlady came over and was mouthed at when she was drunk. I was only telling her a point disgusting behaviour. Disappointed more interested in serving local mates avoid

Refused 2 cokes because in my mate doesn’t have a beard in his ID picture. He’s 26. And we ordered coke. Apparently need to be 18 for entry but still a ridiculous reason. Also one of the guys behind the bar was wearing a liverpool shirt so thats worth 1 star rating just for that. And ran by wollys.

Landlord wants to get some manners and his facts correct Was accused of have muddy shoes on a previous visit which I new was not me have since found out after I left someone else was the culprit who sat in my seat directly after I left Will never go in the place again LANDLORD IS BOTH ARROGRANT AND RUDE

Rude staff, awful atmosphere. The people clearly don't know how to run a business with a welcoming atmosphere. Plenty of other places to go that are as cheap in Boston. Avoid like the plague.

Called in here to watch the football on Sky, and found a little gem. A nice atmosphere, very clean, and the prices were superbly competitive. The staff were efficient and friendly, somewhere I would visit again.

So there was a comedy act /singer in drag no problems with this but the problems are as follows Regular drinkers in there not bothered about the act that's on Talking while she was singing Hardly anywhere to sit so if your nr the bar impossible to see the act as tall people stood about The landlady looked a mess and the pub looked tired even though she said it's better than it was The security staff would definitely not be able to handle a difficult gang if anything kicked off two young lads not much going on between the ears Drinks were cheap I don't think I'd go back 😕

Ok so here is a rewrite as first review not acceptable. Bar staff were rude, beer was drain water and the place was dirty!!

Visited here on a Saturday, during the section of Covid, where Waitress service is the norm. On entry wearing a mask we was pointed to a large table. Where we waited to be waited on. We never got asked for track an trace, nobody asked for our number or name. No government track and trace scan code. Quite slow service, but waiter was flying around like crazy, so my hat goes of to him. Very calous reaction to me when I stood up to stretch my legs in the same spot. Was told firmly, to sit back down, by the landlady, Very condescending when my wife decided to stand up as well, she was immediately confronted by a Headmistress's voice, sit down. Unfortunately this lead to a heated debate, and an eventual exit from us. Dont go here. Unless you enjoy that form of supposedly reasonable behaviour from a Landlord and landlady. Completely unnecessary and not what you would expect from them. Yes there are restrictions on Covid 19, we all know what they are, but dont expect people to be completely perfect, When you don't ask us for our Track an Trace, name and number.........

Having drank in the stump many a times before the lockdown came into force, my wife and I decided to go into the stump Monday evening being out with friends for a few drinks. We walked into the pub through the front door to be escorted straight out through the fire exit by hitler the landlord who informed us you are barred from entering his pub, considering my wife and I hadn’t been in the stump since March, 6 months previously with no bother what so ever. Hitler really thinks he is something special above anyone and everyone. I wouldn’t of minded if he had told me a reason why. Total dhead Don’t wast your time or money in this establishment

Didn't get through door you can go in pub at 18 but security demanded our mates I'd he's 28 joke she was obnoxious she will put people off going in so rude we were going have few drinks in there never go back now you will lose customers by doing that

Nipped in with my 16 year old daughter after a shopping day in Boston , went firstly to the toilet then would have headed to the bar , unfortunately the bar maid ( blonde older lady with some kind of blonde adornment on her head ) followed us in to the toilets and Began a rant at my daughter ... whilst I was actually using the toilet!!! about how you cannot just enter a pub to use a toilet , or how a 16 year old isn’t allowed in one ( even with a parent ??🤣🤣) what the hell !! Obviously we did just what she accused us of and left immediately... So yes lovely welcoming atmosphere if pat butcher & the Mafia is your thing . Also they must be doing extremely well to Be able to afford to chase potential customers out 😂🤣 zero out of ten my love and as for shouting “don’t thank me “on our exit you are most definitely welcome x

Just been here there was six us us two friends did nt want s drink straight away even though everyone else did! My two friends were asked to leave!So word to the wise make sure you buy something before you get kicked out absolute joke!!!

Pleasant central located traditional pub. Visited on a special Northern Soul Night. I understand they have regular entertainment. Good pub entertainment and dancing with a good selection of beers served by a friendly bar team. I did not eat but the back seating and table area was busy with eaters and drinkers of all ages.

Upon walking around this quaint town we approached this little cafe without much expectation. However, the staff were an absolute delight and I would definitely give this cafe full marks for the outstanding customer service provided. We ordered 2 full English breakfasts which arrived promptly and was absolutely delicious. It was acctually rather cheap for such good food and the cafe itself is clean and very well presented. I would definitely recommend.

Went in on Friday evening sadly only me in at the time staff friendly and place very clean . Beer good and reasonable price . Would return during day as would like to sample the food .

Well I always go here when I'm in Boston. Love the place staff OK the beer OK. Believe it's now been took over will be in again when I'm in Boston. Better than alot of places there would highly recommend

Well was an ok pub wooden floors you cant beat the original bars beer good and antmosphere ok will go again

Me llamó en este pub con un amigo, sólo porque nos quedamos cortos de tiempo, y tenía una reunión cerca. Normalmente no suelo ir a bares del centro de la ciudad, como una vieja señora me tienden a sentirse incómodo incluso si tengo empresa conmigo.Sin embargo, ¡qué agradable sorpresa, parecía un poco decepcionante en entrar, pero la señora detrás de la barra era amable y servicial, y siempre hay alguien en el bar incluso hablaba con nosotros, claramente un regular, que es una buena señal. Pedimos una bebida, y nos llevaron a una mesa, y la señora nos atendió. Teníamos ensaladas y deliciosa, muy fresco y crujiente, no me puedo quejar, y un gran precio.como dije, ¡qué agradable sorpresa!
